Walter John Rehder
9/15/1917 - 3/1/2006

Walter John Rehder, age 88 born Sept. 15, 1917 in Chadron,
Nebraska to John and Amanda Rehder.
Walt was an exceptional husband, father
and provider. He served in the US Coast
Guard for 5 years, including service
during WWII, and later he served in US
Army and Army Reserve for 25 years. As
a career welder, he was extremely proud
of his trade. He was an expert and
eventually taught high-pressure
welding. Walt enjoyed fishing,
boating, riding motorcycles,
gunsmithing, antique cars, and
collecting rocks. He was a lifelong
member of the Lutheran Church, Missouri
Synod.
Walt is survived by his wife, Lauramae,
sons Bob and Roger, sister Wilma, five
grandchildren and 10 great-
grandchildren.
A Celebration of Walt’s Life will be
held at Westford Funeral Home on
Tuesday, March 7 at 11:30 AM with Rev.
Doug Iben officiating. Cemetery.
Military honors will be presented by
American Legion Post #7.

Clayton Morse Boynton
10/27/1943 - 2/16/2006

Clayton M. Boynton, age 62 of
Bellingham, born October 27,
1943 in Bellingham, the second son of
Elva (Dibble) & Solon R. Boynton, Jr.,
M.D. He was delivered by his
grandfather, Solon R. Boynton, Sr.,
M.D. After graduating from Bellingham
High School and briefly attending
Skagit Valley Junior College, Clayton
worked for a short time on the
waterfront and for the local paper-
mill.
He lived in and around the Bellingham
area his entire life; living with his
parents until his last 5 years when he
moved into a retirement home. Clayton’s
last few years at Columbia Place
Retirement Home in Bellingham were some
of his happiest. The time spent there
towards the end of his life was
enhanced greatly by the diligent care
from Administrator Dorothy Turner and
her staff, and the family greatly
appreciates all of their special
attention. Clayton was loved by his
friends and family, and his kind
and gentle soul will be missed. Special
thanks to the staff who attended to
Clayton at St. Joseph Hospital. He
death by his brother, Steven, and
mother, Elva.
Memorials may be made to the Bellingham
Food Bank. Visitation will be held at
Westford Funeral Home on Wednesday,
February 22 from 2 – 5 PM. A
Celebration of Clayton’s Life will be
held at Westford Funeral Home on
Thursday, February 23 at 11 AM followed
by a reception across the street at
Westford’s Broadway Hall. Cemetery.

Walter S. Hinds
2/4/1930 - 2/10/2006

Walter S. Hinds, age 76, born February 4, 1930 in
Bellingham. Walt served in the U.S.
Navy during the Korean War. Walt
enjoyed fishing, skiing, boating,
cooking, dancing, traveling to Hawaii
and especially golfing. He always had a
story to tell. Walt worked in forestry
and avalanche control, and later owned
KA Manufacturing. He was a member of
Bellingham Elks Club #194 and the
American Legion.
Walt is survived by his wife, Mary Lou
and her children Jim (Karen) Sands,
John (Rhonda) Sands and Katie Sands,
all of Bellingham; daughters Tina
Denman of Illinois and Kathy Royal of
Kent, WA; sister Audrey (Art) Pederson
of Bellingham; sisters-in-law Helen
Ashe and Patricia Huntley, and many
other relatives.
Visitation will be held at Westford
Funeral Home on Monday, February 13
from 2 – 5 PM, followed by a Vigil
Service at 7 PM. Mass of Christian
Burial will be held at Sacred Heart
Catholic Church on Tuesday, February 14
at 10 AM followed by a reception at the
Parish Hall. passed away on Sunday, February 12,
2006 in Seattle. She had moved to
Seattle recently from Bellingham with
her husband Einar Laaksonen to be
closer to her daughter Teresa Gilbert
and Teresa’s husband Jon Behrndt and
their daughter Claire, son James
Gilbert, stepdaughter Diane Laaksonen,
and Einar’s grandchildren Autumn Elzea
and Allyson Elzea, who all live in
Seattle. She is also survived by her
son Richard Gilbert, who currently
resides in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.
Dolores was born November 12, 1911 in
Bellingham to Henry & Bessie (Thompson)
Bartleson. Ed graduated from Harmony
High School and attended Bellingham
Normal School. He joined the
Bellingham Police Department in 1938,
and was drafted into the military
service in the U.S. Army in 1942. He
then attained rank of 1st Lieutenant.
In 1946, Ed returned to Bellingham and
the Police Department, where he served
for a total of 26 years. During that
time he graduated from the FBI Academy
in Washington, D.C.; he returned to
Bellingham and ran the Police ID
Department from 1948-1955. He served as
Chief of Police from 1955-1964.
Ed passed away in 1980. He married for 25
years. He was a member of Central
Lutheran Church, and a 50 year member
of Masonic Order #44 F & M.
He was preceded in death by brothers,
Albert, Fred, James and his sister
Margaret. Survivors include his wife
Norma; daughter Jean Bartleson; son
John (wife Lori) Bartleson, all of
Bellingham; granddaughter Kira
Bartleson of Seattle and grandson Ryan
Shintaffer of Bellingham. The family
wishes to thank the caregivers at Mt.
Baker Care Center for their special
kindness to Ed.
Memorials may be made to Whatcom Medic
1, 1800 Broadway, Bellingham, WA 98225
or the Bellingham Food Bank at 1824
Ellis St. Bellingham, WA 98225.
Visitation will be held at Westford
Funeral Home on Monday, February 27,
from 2-5 PM. A Celebration of Ed’s
Life will be held at Westford Funeral
Home on Tuesday, February 28 at 1 PM
followed by a reception across the
street at Westford’s Broadway Hall.
Rev. Len Ericksen will be officiating.
Honors will be presented by the
Bellingham Police. Military honors will
be presented by American Legion Post
#7.
