Elvera Goldie Hanna
6/21/1915 - 6/15/2002

Elvera G. Hanna born to Pete and Rose Johnson,
almost 87 years ago, on June 21, 1915.
After graduating from Whatcom High, She
went on to work at Pacific Northwest
Bell Telephone Co. She met Don Hanna
and they were passed away in 1967.
Elvera is survived by her two
daughters: Karen Tavis and Susan
Kingman; her son Command Sergeant
Major, Timothy D. Hanna, USA (Ret) and
his wife Joan; her brother Walter
Johnson and his wife Vera. She has
four grandchildren: Karen’s daughter,
Cheri Nunamaker and son, Tim Nunamaker,
Tim’s son, Capt. Darren D. Hanna US
Army, and his daughter Danne’ Fell.
She has three great-grandsons:
Derrick, Tyler and Deven Fell. She has
several nieces and nephews on both the
Johnson and Hanna sides of the family.
Elvera spent a good part of her life
working and caring for her family. In
later years she was free to travel.
She went to Norway with her mother.
She traveled to Seoul, Korea to visit
her son Tim and his family, when he was
the Commandant of the Eighth Army,
Noncommissioned Officers Academy. Her
daughter, Susan, passed away Thursday,
June 20, 2002. She was married Hubert Waite Horton in
Buffalo, NY in August 1941. Betty has
lived in Buffalo, Brooklyn, Queens,
Fairlawn, NJ and Ferndale, WA. She was
a member of the 32 BJ Union for
Elevator Operators for 50 years. She
loved painting and fixing her home up.
Preceded in died on June
twenty fourth at the age of 81. After
graduating from Stadium High School in
Tacoma, Washington, he went on to
graduate from the U.S. Merchant Marine
Academy in Kingspoint, New York and the
University of Puget Sound in Tacoma,
Washington. He served in both the U.S.
Merchant Marine and the U.S. Navy
during World War Two. He was employed
in the Engineering department at
Georgia Pacific Pulp Division. Walter
was a member of First Baptist Church,
National Society of Professional
Engineers, Northwest Washington
Engineer's Club, San Juan Chapter of
American Merchant Marine Veterans,
Puget Sound Chapter of U.S. Merchant
Marine Academy Alumni Association,
Whatcom Maritime Association, Albert J.
Hamilton Post of American Legion, Mt.
Baker Amateur Radio Club. He is
survived by his widow Lois Jean, sons
Steven R. of Bellingham, William G. and
wife Nivia of Des Moines, WA, five
grandchildren and brother Robert of
Anchorage, AK. Graveside services will
be held 12:30pm Thursday, June 27, 2002
at Greenacres Memorial Park, followed
by a 2:00pm memorial service at First
Baptist Church. Memorials may be made
to Whatcom Hospice or The Courtyard.

Marie Bertha Bazlen
2/20/1905 - 6/26/2002

Marie Bertha Bazlen, age 97 of Lummi
Is. WA, born February
20, 1905 in Sacramento, CA, to Antonio
and Catterina (Perrero) Ozella. Marie
grew up on Sherman Island in the
Sacramento Delta. She graduated from
Healds Business College in 1925. Marie
death by her husband,
William Bazlen; daughter, Catherine
Bray; brother, Peter Ozella; and
sisters, Nellie Ozella and Minnie
Clayton.
Survived by her son, William T. Bazlen
and wife Susan of Lummi Is. WA; a
sister, Leona Orecchia of Sacramento,
CA; 10 grandchildren and 8 great-
grandchildren.
Services will be held in Sacramento,
CA. Memorials may be made to
Children’s Hospital of Seattle, WA.

Herman Bowers
1/28/1926 - 7/7/2002

Herman Bowers, age 76 of Everson, WA,
born January 28,
1926 in Indianapolis, IN to Hirman and
Ruth (Loomis) Bowers. Herman death by his mother Ruth
Loomis, Father Hirman Bowers and a
brother Hirman Bowers, Jr.
Survived by his wife, Beryl Bowers of
Everson, WA; his sons, Doug Bowers of
Edmonds, WA, Robert Bowers of
Bellingham, WA; daughter, Carol Gwinner
of Bellingham, WA; brother, Richard
Bowers of The Dalles, OR; a sister,
Edith Turnbull of Bellingham, WA; 3
grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at
Westford Funeral Home 11:00am
Thursday, July 11, 2002. Memorials may
be made to Whatcom Hospice.
