Dean T. Varey, 68
PRESCOTT - Dean T. Varey, age 68, of Prescott, formerly of Farmington, Minn., died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999, at the St. Croix Care Center, Prescott.
He was born March 19, 1930, in Humbolt, Minn., the son of James and Della (Jensen) Varey. He was a graduate of Farmington High School. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII.
He was well-known in the antique and collectibles business. He made his home in Prescott the last 28 years with his companion and friend Agnes Timm.
Survivors include: his long-time companion, Agnes Timm of Prescott; two brothers, Arnold (Millie) Varey, Savage, Minn., and Donald (Joan) Varey, Rosemont, Minn.; one sister, Marion Ostertag, Minneapolis; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Edwin.
A memorial visitation will be held Sunday, Jan. 31, at the Hill-McLaughlin Funeral Home, Prescott, from 2-5 p.m. Interment of his cremated remains will be in the spring in Farmington. No other services will be held.

Edwin Julson, 94
SPRING VALLEY - Edwin Julson, age 94, of King, formerly of Gilman Township, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999, at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King.
He was born Oct. 8, 1904, the son of Edward and Sina (Harris) Julson in Gilman Township. He was baptized and confirmed and a life long member of Gilman Lutheran Church, Spring Valley.
He lived and worked in the Gilman area for most of his life. He lived on the home farm and farmed with his brothers and also did farm work for the neighbors.
He married Francis Helgeson. She died a very short time after their marriage, and he never remarried.
For the past 26 years, he was a resident at the Veterans Home at King. While at King, he met Francis Gunderson, who became his special friend and his letter writer.
Preceding him in death were: his parents; his wife; two brothers, Helmer and Julius; and five sisters, Ragna Julson, Ella Nelson, Gunda Seidel, Bernice Langer and Sarah Alvina Falkofske.
He is survived by nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 12:30-2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27, at the Gilman Lutheran Church, Spring Valley. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. with Rev. Keith Holste officiating. Music will be provided by organist Carole Lynum and vocalist Dorla Holm.
Spring burial will be in the Gilman Lutheran Cemetery, Spring Valley. Bearers will be: Rick Nicholson, Larry Veenendall, Eugene Veenendall, Arland Aamodt, Ed Nicholson and Larry Anderson.

Margaret J. Miller, 74
Margaret Jean Miller, age 74, of Ellsworth and formerly of Hudson died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999, at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, Minn. She had been in Fairview Red Wing Hospital until being transferred to Trevilla of Golden Valley, Minn., last week.
She was born in Hudson on June 28, 1924, the second oldest of eight children born to Ray and Jean (Beggs) Miller. She lived in Hudson with her parents most of her life until her mother's death in 1972. After her mother's death, she moved to Strom's Friendship House (now called Brotoloc Cedar House) in Ellsworth, where she lived until becoming ill just a few weeks ago.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church while living in Hudson. She loved music, family and social events, especially celebrating her birthdays and Christmas.
She is survived by: her brothers and sisters, Robert (Eunice) Miller of Hudson, Mary (John) Cameron of Des Moines, Ia., John (Leanda) Miller of McAfee, N.J., Katherine (Ray) Emmons of Finlayson, Minn., Sam Miller of Hudson and Raymond of Palm Spring, Calif.; an aunt, Edna Beggs of Hudson; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, William.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27, at the Murphy Funeral Home, Hudson, and one hour before services at the church on Thursday.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, at the First Presbyterian Church, Hudson, with Rev. Peg Pfab, pastor, officiating. Jody Branson will be organist and Cheryl Forester will be soloist.
Interment will be in the Willow River Cemetery, Hudson. Pallbearers will be: Paul Cameron, Sam Cameron, Jim Miller, Mike Miller, Steve Emmons and Craig Emmons.
Memorials are preferred to Brotoloc Cedar House, Ellsworth.

Eunice B. Klein, 97
Eunice B. Klein, age 97, of River Falls, formerly of Ellsworth, died Monday, Feb. 8, 1999, at the Lutheran Home in River Falls.
She was born Dec. 22, 1901, in Ellsworth, the daughter of August and Sarah E. (Muehleis) Buettner. She was a 1918 graduate of Ellsworth Senior High School and later the Lutheran Ladies Seminary in Red Wing, with a certificate in Stenography. She also was a June, 1923, graduate of the Gregg School of Shorthand in Chicago.
She married Alfred Nordgren Aug. 5, 1933, in Washington County, Ia.; he died June 22, 1959. She later married Walter Klein Nov. 6, 1970, in Ellsworth; he died Nov. 23, 1976.
She was employed as a legal secretary in Ellsworth and Galesberg, Ill. She was also a Court Reporter in Galesberg. Later, she was Deputy Clerk of Court for Pierce County for many years.
She was an active member of the Hartland United Methodist Church, 4-H leader, Hartland Town Treasurer for many years and an active member of Ellsworth Senior Citizens.
She is survived by: one son, James (Barbara) Nordgren, River Falls; four grandchildren, Jane (Keith) Hauschildt, Jim (Diane) Hauschildt, Steve (Lisa) Nordgren and Tom Nordgren; five great-grandchildren, Amanda, Hanna, Hayden Hauschildt, Sara and Alison Nordgren; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by: her husbands; one daughter, Patricia Hauschildt; a son-in-law, Ervin Hauschildt; 10 brothers and sisters.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, at Hartland United Methodist Church, Bay City, with Rev. Bruce Stunkard officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery in the spring. Friends may call at the Hill-McLaughlin Funeral Home, Ellsworth, from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and for one hour before the service at the church on Thursday. Memorials may be directed to Hartland United Methodist Church.

Lida A. Myers, 93
Lida Ann Myers, age 93, of Durand died Friday, Feb. 5, 1999, at the Oakview Care Center in Durand.
She was born March 5, 1905, in the Urne area, Buffalo County, the daughter of Matson and Effie Dewitt Walker. When she was young, the family moved to Spring Creek, Maxville Township, Buffalo County, where she attended the Maxville School. Later, the family moved to Hay Creek, Eau Galle Township, Dunn County, where she attended the Hay Creek School. They later moved to Burnside, Nelson Township, Buffalo County. In 1923, they moved to Waterville Township, Pepin County.
On March 10, 1923, she married Albert Myers at the Eau Galle Methodist Church Parsonage. They farmed in Eau Galle Township until 1953, when they moved to the Village of Eau Galle. In 1985, they moved to Durand and she worked at Huntsinger Farms, was a cook at the Eau Galle Grade School and later cooked at the Durand School. She also helped with dinner at the Durand Rod and Gun Club. He died July 7, 1989.
She loved to bake and enjoyed crocheting and making quilts. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Rebecca Lodge, Royal Neighbors and Homemakers Club.
Survivors include: a son, Joseph (Doris) Myers of Eau Galle; three daughters, Loma Hetrick of Pepin, Zeona (Edward) Bechel of Ellsworth and Alberta (Merlin) Peterson of Hixton; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; one sister, Annie Anderson of Durand; and one brother, Victor (Alice) Walker of Sun Prairie.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, Matson and Effie Dewitt Walker; husband, Albert Myers; great-grandson, Timothy Hetrick; great-great-granddaughter, Mia Hetrick; brothers, Reuben and Chester Walker; and son-in-law, Ralph Hetrick.
Funeral services were Monday, Feb. 8, at the United Methodist Church in Durand. Pastor Goldie Bundy officiated. Music was provided by soloist Richard Baskin and organist Dorothy Heller. Burial was in Clearview Cemetery, Eau Galle Township, Dunn County. Casket bearers were: Howard Anderson, Rodney Bechel, Donald Hetrick, Steven Hetrick, Robert Myers, Myrna Winson.

Delores A. Saupe, 72
Delores A. Saupe, age 72, of Red Wing died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1999, at Fairview Red Wing Hospital.
She was born Sept. 5, 1926, in Hartland Township, the daughter of Elmer and Christine (Mork) Johnson. She graduated from Ellsworth Senior High School in 1944. She worked at Red Wing Laundry.
She married W. Fred Saupe July 23, 1949, in Esdaile. They lived in the Wacouta (Minn.) area for about three years. They then moved to the Red Wing area. She worked at Riviera Cabinets for 25 years until her retirement. She was a member of United Lutheran Church.
She is survived by: one daughter, Bonnie (Jim) Giencke of Hartland; three grandchildren, Jeffrey, Jonathan and Stephanie Giencke; two brothers, William (Margaret) Johnson of Maiden Rock and Glen (Marilyn) Johnson of Red Wing; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceding her in death were: her husband, W. Fred Saupe; one sister, Gladys Wood; and one brother, Orville Johnson.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 6, at United Lutheran Church with Rev. Randall D. Johnson officiating. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery in Red Wing. Pallbearers were: Jeffrey Giencke, Jonathan Giencke, Brad Johnson, Randy Johnson, Kevin Seyffer, Allen Wood.

John B. Marsh, 73
SPRING VALLEY - John Barney Marsh, age 73, of Spring Valley died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, at the Hendry Regional Medical Center, Clewiston, Fla., from injuries received in an automobile accident.
He was born Feb. 13, 1925, the son of John and Olga (Komisrud) Marsh at Beldenville. He was baptized and confirmed and a lifelong member of Martell United Methodist Church, Spring Valley.
He grew up in the Spring Valley area and attended the Forrestville School. On Sept. 4, 1943, he married Frances V. Bradley at Red Wing. They had three children: David, Cheryl and Gail.
He worked and farmed in Martell Township until 1979. He also worked on the road during that time. In 1979, he bought into John's Sanitation and owned and operated the business until about 1989.
He loved fishing and golfing and his home in Florida. He has been spending winters there for a number of years. He had served on the United Martell Methodist Church Council and various committees.
Survivors include: his three children, David Marsh of Ellsworth, Cheryl (Alan) Ciche of Kiel and Gail (Randy) Baar of River Falls; his beloved friend, Marie Rosizki of Spring Valley; 11 grandchildren, Brian, Nathan and Danny Baar, Dean (Nicole) Marsh, Troy Marsh, Todd, Ryan and Angela Ciche, Lori (Bill) Bierne, Kris (Chris) Bartch and Nikki Kohlman; one great granddaughter, Samantha Bartch. He is also survived by: two brothers-in-law, Bill Davies of St. Paul and Roger "Huns" Peterson of Prescott; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were: his parents; his wife, Frances, who died in 1979; daughter-in-law, Nancy Marsh; three brothers, Coyde, Clyde and Rex; and three sisters, Gladys Marsh, Hazel Davies and Irene Peterson.
Funeral services were Friday, Feb. 5, at Rush River Lutheran Church, rural River Falls. Rev. Gary Swanson officiated the service with music provided by organist Heather Johnson and vocalist Nancy Montgomery. Burial was in the Beldenville Cemetery, Beldenville.
Bearers were: his grandsons, Brian Baar, Nathan Baar, Danny Baar, Dean Marsh, Troy Marsh, Todd Ciche and Ryan Ciche.

Wayne A. Gilbertson, 65
DIAMOND BLUFF - Wayne A. Gilbertson, age 65, of Diamond Bluff died Thursday, Jan. 28, 1999, of a heart attack while deep-sea fishing off Gulf Shores, Ala.
The son of Victor and Carol (Fenton) Gilbertson, he was born June 24, 1933, in Ellsworth. He graduated from Ellsworth Senior High School in 1951, where he enjoyed basketball and baseball.
On Sept. 24, 1955, he married Audrey Russ of Bay City, with whom he had two sons. He served in the United States Air Force from 1952-55. He was a salesman in the electronics industry for over 35 years. He lived in Eden Prairie, Minn., for many years before retiring to Diamond Bluff in 1995. He was active in community service groups whereever he lived.
Surviving are: his wife, Audrey; two sons, Jay (Bonnie) of Brookings, S.D., and Jeffery (Pam) of Eden Prairie; one granddaughter, Kelli; two grandsons, Peter and Alexander; two sisters, Emily Gilbert (Carl Benson) of Alexandria, Va., and Audrey (Jim) Robey of Plum City; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Dean.
Memorial service was held at the American Legion Post 204 in Ellsworth on Saturday, Feb. 6. If so desired, memorials are preferred to the Pierce County Historical Association.

Lucille M. Bauer, 79
Lucille M. Bauer, 79, of River Falls died Monday, Feb. 8, 1999, at the American Heritage Nursing Home in Hammond.
She was born Aug. 12, 1919, in Eau Galle, the daughter of John and Myrtle (Webb) Lieffring. She married Lawrence A. Bauer on May 1, 1941. She was employed at Malmer Red & White as a meat wrapper, as a clerk at Fox's Ace Hardware, as a cook at UW-River Falls and at Smead Manufacturing Company in Hastings, Minn. She was a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church and was a charter member of the Women of the Moose. She was also a member of the Good Sam Club.
She is survived by: her husband, Lawrence; two sons, Larry and Loriann of River Falls, and Randy and Teddi of River Falls; three daughters, Sharon and Marvin Utecht of Woodville, Linda and Tom Price of Boyceville and Christine Bauer of N. Hollywood, Calif.; six sisters, Sister Helen Lieffring of La Crosse, Delores Cornellier of Menomonie, Elizabeth and Ronald Darsie of Coon Rapids, Minn., Annabel Bozille of Woodville, Jean Ovsak of River Falls and Mary and Sherman Kiekhofer of Emerald; two brothers, John and Cecelia Lieffring of Clear Lake and Frances and Norieda Lieffring of Ellsworth; 12 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by: one daughter, Marjorie; one granddaughter, Samantha Reese; one brother, Frederick; and two sisters, Rosalie and Veronica.
Funeral was Wednesday, Feb. 10, at St. Bridget Catholic Church. Interment was in St. Bridget Cemetery.
Cashman Mortuary handled arrangements.
