Melvin E. Myer, 78
Melvin E. Myer, age 78, died Friday, Jan. 29, 1999, at his home.
He was born Sept. 22, 1920, in Ellsworth, the son of Charles and Elizabeth (Eichman) Myer. He attended Murphy School and farmed most of his life in Ellsworth Township. He married Margaret Theresa Pelzel June 15, 1950.
He enjoyed farming, helping his neighbors and playing euchre. He loved his grandkids. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ.
He is survived by: long-term companion, Mary "Peach" Dunn of Ellsworth; two children, Barb Cook and Steve Myer, both of Ellsworth; two brothers, Lloyd Myer of Ellsworth and Carl (Marge) Myer of Lake City, Minn.; one sister, Helen Filkins of River Falls; six grandchildren, Duane Henthorne, Christina Cook, Shawn Cook, Nichole Cook, Tim Myer, Crystal Myer; one great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Henthorne; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife; one daughter, Carol; two sons, David and an infant; five sisters, Irene Myer, Flossie Johnson, Marie Hartman, Emma Struve, Florence Myer.
Services were to be Tuesday, Feb. 2, at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Ellsworth, with Rev. Keith Trembath officiating. Burial was to be in the church cemetery.
Hill-McLaughlin Funeral Home, Ellsworth, handled arrangements.

Edward M. Massof, 75
PLUM CITY - Edward Marshall Massof, age 75, of Plum City died at his home on Sunday, Jan. 31, 1999, after courageously battling cancer for two years.
He was born May 27, 1923, in Pittsburgh, Pa. He and his wife Doris retired to Plum City, her home town, in 1984, after a 40-year career in retail management in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area with S&L, Robert Hall Clothes, Sears and Daytons.
He was a veteran of WWII, where he served as a sergeant in the 35th Infantry Division, fighting in the Battle of Normandy, the Battle of the Bulge and the invasion of Germany. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.
He was active in the American Legion and served as Commander of Post 365 in Plum City from 1988-1990. He was also a member of the Plum City United Methodist Church, where he was a Trustee and served as Chairman of the Adminstrative Board.
Memorial services were Saturday, Feb. 6, at the United Methodist Church of Plum City. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Heritage Hospice of Elmwood or the Plum City United Methodist Church.

Marion Hren, 78
Marion Hren, age 78, a resident of the Lake City Nursing Home, Lake City, Minn., and formerly of Franklin and Muskego, died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1999, at the nursing home.
She was born June 18, 1922, to Martin and Edna (Kask) Dahlin in Ellsworth. She later moved to Milwaukee. She was widowed during World War II, and later married William F. Hren of Milwaukee.
She is survived by: one sister, Shelley Budzinski of Tucson, Ariz.; five children, Peter (Sharon) Wroblewski of Nebraska, Thomas (Elizabeth) Wroblewski of Milwaukee, Mary Ann Treesh of West Bend, Karen (Harold) Sommerfield of Lake City, Judith Treml of Illinois and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by: her lifelong friend, Dorothy Delamater and her family of Ellsworth, dear friends, Stan and Stella Dunahee of Muskego, and Herb and Ginnie Anderson of Lake City, and also "Teddy."
Her parents; one brother, Kermit; and husband, William Hren; preceded her in death.
A private memorial service and intermenty will be held at Highland Memorial Park in New Berlin. Her grandchildren will hold a special "life celebration" in the spring.

Harrison Robelia, 93
PLUM CITY - Harrison Robelia, age 93, of Plum City died Friday, Feb. 5, 1999, at Plum City Care Center.
He was the son of William D. and Ella (Woods) Robelia. He was born Jan. 31, 1906, in Pepin County. He grew up in Dunn County. He lived and farmed on the home farm.
He married Cecelia Smith Feb. 29, 1936. After marriage, they farmed on the home farm. In the early 1970s, they moved to Downsville and he worked for Dunn Township. She died in 1984.
In June of 1986, he married Lucille Huftel and moved to Durand. For the past year-and-a-half, he has lived in Plum City.
He is survived by: three daughters, Kathleen (Leon) Rothbauer of Mondovi, Luella Tatro of Eureka, Calif., and Marcella (Thomas) Biles of Arkansaw; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; his first wife, Cecelia; his second wife, Lucille; two brothers, Shermley and Clarence; and a son-in-law, John Tatro.
Funeral services were to be Tuesday, Feb. 9, at St. Henry's Catholic Church, Eau Galle. Rev. Roy Mish was to officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery in the spring.
Rhiel Funeral Home, Durand, is handling arrangements.

Jean E. Merriman, 76
RIVER FALLS - Jean E. Merriman, 76, of River Falls, died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1999.
She was born April 16, 1922, in Red Wing, the daughter of Ben and Elda Boldt.
She married Leland Merriman on April 4, 1942, in San Francisco.
She was a 1938 graduate of Red Wing Senior High School, Red Wing. She was a homemaker and she enjoyed bingo and cards. She was an excellent seamstress and an active member of River Falls United Methodist Church.
She is survived by: one son, Michael (Judy) Merriman of Fond du Lac; one daughter, Mary Lee (Bob) Breuer of St. Louis, Mo.; brothers, Lester and Bud Boldt of Red Wing; and sisters, Beattie of York, Pa., and Beryl of Red Wing; also several nieces and nephews; four grandchildren, Eric and Stephanie Breuer, and Sara and Kristi Merriman.
She was preceded in death by: her husband Leland; one brother, Jesse; and two sisters, Verna and Marion.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 13, at United Methodist Church, River Falls, with Pastor Larry McCann officiating. Interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.
Pallbearers were: Joe Boles, Jess Seguin, Randy Merriman, Greg Delander, Gordon Boldt and Todd Merriman.
Arrangements were by Cashman Mortuary, River Falls.

William Becker, 55
PRESCOTT - William Becker, 55, Prescott, died Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999, at the St. Croix Care Center.
He was born Dec. 30, 1943, in Red Wing, the son of Edwin and Phyllis (Brown) Baker. He attended Prescott Schools. He worked for Harris Construction and later was a custodian for St. Joseph's School.
He was an avid Packer fan and Prescott Cardinal athletic activities supporter. He was a member of the Father Solanus Guild, Knights of Columbus and St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
He is survived by: two brothers and one sister, Charles (Deanna) Becker, Hager City, Mary Skinner, Elroy, and Mike (Cindy) Becker, Hager City; two nieces and three nephews, Curtis Becker, Prescott, Randy Whipple, Bay City, Krista Huron, Ellsworth, Michelle Becker and Jacob Becker, Hager City.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; five infant brothers; one niece Cheryl Becker; and one nephew Scott Whipple.
Mass of Christian Burial was Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Prescott, with Father Thomas Mannion officiating. Visitation was at Hill-McLaughlin Funeral Home, Prescott, Sunday. Burial was in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, Ellsworth.
Hill-McLaughlin Funeral Home, Prescott, handled arrangements.

Louise Coty, 66
BAY CITY - Louise Yvonne Coty, 66, Red Wing, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, at Fairview Red Wing Hospital.
The daughter of Harold and Elvie (O'Brien) Cross, she was born July 31, 1932, in Minneapolis, and attended Weyerhauser and Borup schools. She married Clifford Erstad in 1949; they later divorced. She then married Bernard Hanson in 1955; they divorced.
For a number of years, she worked at Red Wing Shoe Co. She married Eugene Coty Nov. 28, 1966, in Red Wing. She enjoyed reading, history and her cats.
Surviving are: one son, Michael Erstad of Red Wing; two daughters, Sheila Dahling of Bay City and Anita Hagen of Fort Dodge, Ia.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Virgina (Vernon) Skalsky of Ada, Minn., Carol (Giles) Lampman of Red Wing, and Elsie (Fran) Daleiden of Maiden Rock; one brother, Russell (Pat) Cross of Willards, Md.
Preceding her in death were: her husband Eugene; one son, Stephen Hanson; ;and three grandsons.
Memorial service was to be Tuesday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, with the Rev. Philip McNairy officiating. Burial was to be in Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation was to be for one hour before the service Tuesday at the funeral home.

Myrtle M. Rigelman, 75
HAGER CITY - Myrtle Mary Rigelman, 75, Red Wing, died Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999, at Fairview Red Wing Hospital.
She was born Dec. 17, 1923, in Minneapolis to John and Rosina (Mueller) Irvin. She attended St. Joseph's Elementary School in Bellevue, Ia., and the family then moved to Hager City. She was a 1942 graduate of Red Wing Central High School.
She married Raynold Rigelman Dec. 8, 1945, in Red Wing, and he died Nov. 25, 1989. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Burnson-Lillyblad VFW Auxiliary and Leo C. Peterson American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed genealogy and playing cards.
She is survived by: two daughters, Patsy (Alan) Harding of Hager City and Linda Hager of Prescott; one son, James (Joleen) of Maiden Rock; 13 grandchildren and six great grandchildren; two sisters, Carol (Charles) Hegseth of Red Wing and Gertrude "Trudy" Peterson of Tomah; and three brothers, Robert (Vi) Irvin of Lake City, Minn., Alfred Irvin and John (Ione) Irvin, both of Red Wing.
Preceding her in death were her husband and one brother, James Irvin, Sr.
Funeral was to be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dale Wordelman officiating. Burial was to be in Burnside Cemetery. Mahn Family Funeral Homes, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, handled arrangements.

Laverne B. Wolf, 73
PRESCOTT - Laverne B. Wolf, 73, of River Falls, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 1999, at the River Falls Area Hospital.
He was born March 5, 1925, in Oak Grove Township to Albert E. and Martha (Belter) Wolf. He was baptized, confirmed and a lifetime, devoted member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Oak Grove.
Entering the U.S. Navy in February of 1943, he served in the South Pacific until his Honorable Discharge in March of 1946. He married Sylvia Pfluger Jan. 1, 1947.
They farmed in St. Croix and Pierce counties. They had three children: Richard, Ronald and Sheryl.
He joined the U.S. Postal Service in 1963, retiring in 1984. He was a member of the Pierce County VFW and the Costello-Madsen American Legion Post 61, where he held numerous Post, County and District offices. He also served for many years on the Prescott School Board. He was a founding board member of the St. Croix Care Center and a member of many other civic organizations.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Albert and Martha Wolf; brother, Lewis Wolf; sisters, Lucille Mausolf and Lorraine Bredahl.
Surviving are: his wife Sylvia; brother, LeRoy Wolf of San Luis Obispo, Calif.; sister, LaVelle Wolf of River Falls; two sons, Richard and wife Mary of Menomonie, Ronald of River Falls; and a daughter, Sheryl and husband Dana Turner of Burnsville, Minn.; four grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, friends and other relatives.
Services were held Thursday, Feb. 11, at St. John's UCC, Oak Grove Township, Prescott. Burial was in Pine Glen Cemetery, Prescott.
Visitation was at Cashman Mortuary, River Falls, on Wednesday, Feb. 10.

Marie Skog, 100
Marie Skog, 100, Ellsworth, died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1999, at the Lutheran Home in River Falls.
She was born Aug. 4, 1898, in Dakota County, Minn., to Peter and Louise (Conradtson) Nelson and moved with her family to Wisconsin, where she attended Conroy School in Ellsworth.
She married Reuben Skog May 14, 1917, and they were married for 69 years. They farmed in Ellsworth until retiring in 1970 and moving into Ellsworth. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
She is survived by nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband and four sisters.
Funeral was Saturday at Hill-McLaughlin Funeral Home, Ellsworth, with the Rev. Carol Peterson officiating. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery, Ellsworth. Visitation was for one hour before the service Saturday at the funeral home.

Ruth A. Pomeroy, 94
MAIDEN ROCK - Ruth Annabelle Pomeroy, 94, Minnesota City, Minn., died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1999, at Community Memorial Hospital in Winona, Minn.
She was born Nov. 20, 1904, in Maiden Rock to Henry and Lydia (Bunce) Lampman. She married Otis Pomeroy March 23, 1921, in Winona. He died in 1968. A homemaker, she enjoyed playing bingo and baking.
Survivors include: four sons, Lawrence (Dorothy) and Duane (Sheila), both of Winona, Clarence (Bonnie) of Minnesota City and Otis (Penny) of Milwaukee; three daughters, Rosella (LeRoy) Burt and Genevieve (Allen) Rothering, both of Minnesota City, and Charlotte (Alan) Forham of Hayward, Calif.; 32 grandchildren; and one half-brother, Stanley (Mary Ann) Lampman of Prior Lake, Minn.
She was preceded in death by: her husband; one son, Archie; one sister, Gertrude; five brothers, Marvin, Harold, Fred, Norman and Erwin; three grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
Funeral was Saturday, Feb. 13, at Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home, Winona. Pallbearers were: Larry, Shawn, and David Pomeroy, Howard Messig, Chuck Williams and Allen Rothering. Honorary pallbearer was Richard Pomeroy.
