EDGERTON - Marshal E. Gist, Jr., age 35, died on Fri., Oct. 26, 2001, as a result of injuries in an automobile accident. He was born on Dec. 9, 1965 in Harvard, IL, the son of Marshal E. and Sharon Sherman Cook Sr. Marshal Jr. was employed by Wynn's Roofing.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Sharon (Bert Weeks) Cook of Janesville; a sister, Diane Sherman of Oshkosh, WI; 2 nieces, Amber and Ashley Sherman; a nephew, Terry Sherman Jr.; maternal grandmother, Doris Sherman; aunts; uncles and friends. He was predeceased by his father; paternal grandparents and maternal grandfather.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m., Wed., Oct. 31, 2001 in DALEY-MURPHY-WISCH & ASSOCIATES FUNERAL HOME, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI with Rev. Richard Adair officiating. Burial will be in Eastlawn cemetery. Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Daniel E. Cavey
Born in Milwaukee, WI on May 5, 1930
Died Apr. 27, 2006 and resided in Janesville, WI.

JANESVILLE - Daniel E. Cavey, age 75, of Janesville, died on Thursday, April 27, 2006, at home surrounded by his family. He was born in Milwaukee on May 5, 1930, the son of Daniel L. and Edith (Lohrman) Cavey and was raised by Claude and Genevieve Horkey of Hanover. Daniel graduated from Janesville High School in 1948 and served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He married Veronica Honisch Selck on May 1, 1954, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He was employed by Allied (JATCO) of Janesville for 35 years as a mechanic. Daniel was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, a life member of the VFW Post 1621 and UAW Local 95. He enjoyed hunting and helping his children.
He is survived by his wife, Veronica; 9 children: David Selck, Douglas (Judy) Selck, Delores (Michael) Olver, Dale (Pam) Cavey, Denise (Chris) Brose, Dean (Jackie) Cavey, Darius (Diane) Cavey and Donna Cavey all of Janesville, and Darin (Noreen) Cavey of Texas; 22 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Edith (Kermit) Johnson of Oshkosh and Bea (Floyd) Olson of Footville; special cousin, Mildred Rye of Avalon; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Thomas and Justin; and a sister, Nell Jung.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 1, 2006, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Fr. James Kuhn presiding. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to HospiceCare, Inc. or St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

Melville C. Williams
Born in Rapid City, S.D. on Jul. 19, 1910
Died Feb. 26, 2004 and resided in Janesville, WI.

JANESVILLE - Melville Chase Williams, age 93, of 2425 Hickory Ct., died Thurs., Feb. 26, 2004 at Mercy Hospital. He was born in Rapid City, S.D. on July 19, 1910, the son of George and Blanche (Chase) Williams. He graduated from the School of Mines in Rapid City and received his law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School in Madison. He was married to Dorothy Atwood in 1935. She preceded him in death in 1975. Melville married Nancy (Arthur) Lee in Janesville on July 15, 1978. Melville practiced law at the Pope-Ballard Law Firm in Chicago and was head of the Anti-Trust Department in New York. He was a past board member of the Rock County Historical Society and a member of the Illinois Bar Association.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; 5 children: Susan Collier of LeRoy, NY, Christopher Williams of Marion, NY, Jeffrey (Lucy) Lee of Providenciales, Turks and Caico Islands, Alison (Al) Jewer of Milton, WI and Rebecca (Mark) Finster of Monona; 6 grandchildren: David Black, Gillian Williams, Maxwell and William Jewer, Olivia and Sophia Finster; and a brother, Warren (Ethel) William of Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lester; and sister, Hazel.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sat., March 13, 2004 at Oak Hill cemetery Chapel. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy memorials may be made to the Rock County Historical Society, Alzheimer’s Association, or the Population Connection. SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME is assisting the family.

Grenawalt, Kenneth O.
March 28, 1937 - Oct. 25, 2001
EVANSVILLE - Kenneth O. Grenawalt, age 64, died on Thurs., Oct. 25, 2001, at Skaalen Nursing Home in Stoughton. He was born in Orfordville on March 28, 1937, the son of Orville and Bernice (Clark) Grenawalt. He married Loisann Loretta Johnson on Aug. 25, 1962 in Monroe. She died on April 16, 1998. Kenneth was a 1956 graduate of Evansville High School, a member of the US Naval Reserve, and a longtime resident of Evansville. He was employed by the City of Evansville for 37 years, a member of the volunteer fire department, and the Brooklyn Sportsman's Club. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Surviving are a daughter, Michelle (Roger) Ehle of Stoughton; 2 sons, Gregory (Constance) of Brodhead, Eugene of Janesville; 2 grandchildren, Aaron Hallmark of Stoughton, Magnolia Grenawalt of Brodhead; a stepmother, Bernice Grenawalt of Janesville; 2 brothers, James (Nancy) Grenawalt of Minocqua and Eugene (Jan) Grenawalt of Evansville; several nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Mon., Oct. 29, 2001 at the Magnolia Advent Christian Church, 14726 West County Road A, Evansville, with Pastor Nathan Dean officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill cemetery, Evansville. Friends may call at the NEWCOMER-SILVERTHORN FUNERAL HOME, Orfordville, from 6 until 8 p.m. Sunday evening.

Donald G. Peerenboom
Born in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin on May 27, 1950
Died Apr. 17, 2006 and resided in Janesville, WI.

JANESVILLE - Donald G. Peerenboom, age 55, of 1119 Summerhill Dr., died Monday, April 17, 2006, at his home. He was born in Fond du Lac, on May 27, 1950, the son of Bruce and Charlotte (Centen) Peerenboom and was a 1968 graduate of Madison LaFollette High School and 1974 graduate of the UW Madison School of Pharmacy. Donald lived in Milwaukee for 1 1/2 years before moving to Janesville in January, 1976. He was employed for Staben Pharmacy at Riverview Clinic and later became manager when it changed to Dean Pharmacy. He married Carol Lyons on Aug. 7, 1971, in Madison. Donald was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church, served on the Janesville Youth Baseball Board, VNA Board, Continuing Care services, Janesville CATS Board, American Cancer Society Run, Volunteer coach for youth sports and enjoyed biking, running, and golf.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; 3 sons: Matthew (Kimberli) Peerenboom of Janesville, Curtis Peerenboom and Timothy Peerenboom both of Madison; a daughter, Julie Peerenboom of Janesville; a brother, David (Karen) Peerenboom of Kildeer, IL; 2 sisters, Sue (David) Dearth of Rolla, MO, and Linda (Stan) Flashinski of Racine. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 21, 2006, at ST. JOHN VIANNEY CATHOLIC CHURCH with Fr. Donn Heiar presiding. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet cemetery. Friends may call at ST. JOHN VIANNEY CATHOLIC CHURCH on Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and again on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of Mass. SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME is assisting the family with arrangements.

Balch, Lawrence A.
May 19, 1918 - June 5, 2002
EDGERTON - Lawrence A. Balch, age 84, of Edgerton, died Wed., June 5, 2002, at home at the side of his son. He was born May 19, 1918 at home in Milton, the son of Homer and Anna (Crandall) Balch. He married Esther Kruckenberg, and they were parents of a son, Dennis. He later married Dorothy Krueger, who preceded him in death. Larry owned the Cab Company in Edgerton for many years and then started Edgerton Landscaping and Garden Center. He loved gardening, having gotten his start tilling family garden plots in Edgerton. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, and Disabled American Vets, having served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in England during World War II. He was a member of Central Lutheran Church and was past president of Rock River cemetery Association, as was his father and now his son. He was loved by everyone, and everyone knew him.
Larry is survived by his son, Dennis (Linda) Balch of Edgerton; stepsons, Fred Hickethier of Edgerton, Robert Allard, Jr. of Connecticut; a grandson, Kenny (Stephanie) of Edgerton and their children: Peyton, Dane, McKenna and Morgan. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; 2 brothers, Lester and Percy; 2 sisters, Sylvia and Blossom; and a stepbrother, Bill Hickethier.
A private graveside service with military rites will be held at Rock River cemetery, Edgerton. BRUNI-NYGAARD-WARD FUNERAL HOME will be assisting the family.

Hamre, Mary (Stanke)
Jan 7, 1924 - Oct. 16, 2001
JANESVILLE - Mary (Stanke) Hamre, age 77, known as "Aunt Mary" to many, died peacefully on Tues., Oct. 16, 2001. She lived in her own apartment with her cat, Calico, while being lovingly cared for by family and staff at The Huntington Assisted Living community for the past two years. She died with her daughter, son-in-law and grandson present at the Cedar View Health Center, where she had been taken care of since Oct. 4, 2001. Mary was born on Jan. 7, 1924, the daughter of Gustave Stanke and Mary (Franz) Stanke, immigrants from Danzig, Germany. Born in Harvard, IL, she was the first in the family born in the United States. After age five, when her father died, she was raised by her mother and stepfather, Charles Erdmann, and moved to Janesville with them in 1934. She married Wilmer G. Hamre in 1943 in Janesville; he died in 1978.
Mary will be remembered most for her life-long efforts to help others by making herself available to the family, friends and organizations with her compassionate listening and good deeds. Prior to graduating from Janesville High School in 1942, she was active in student council, marching band, basketball, volleyball and many community service projects to help those in need and aid war efforts. She was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church since the age of 10; she was involved in the Mission Society, teaching Sunday school, starting and leading Junior Lutherans, and serving on many committees and boards. Mary was a member and served as the president of the P.T.A. during her daughter's years at Washington Elementary School. In her Janesville community, Mary will be remembered most for her work at ECHO. She served as the organization's first coordinator, leading and organizing volunteers while assisting those in need with food, clothing and compassionate listening until she was 74 years old.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Dr. Sue Hamre-Nietupski and her son-in-law, Dr. John Nietupski, both of Iowa City, IA; her grandson, "the sunshine of (her) life", Christopher John Hamre Nietupski, a graduate student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison; her "Sis" and friend for life, Lois Biggerstaff of Janesvile; a sister-in-law, Delores Stanke Garves of Janesville; many nieces and nephews; and all those who knew her as their "second mom" or "aunt". She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; step-father; brothers: Edward, Herman and Louis Stanke; sisters, Magdelena "Helen" Brooks of Janesville, Wanda Stanke of Germany; and all of her brothers and sisters-in-law.
Funeral services will be held on Fri., Oct. 19, 2001, at 1:30 at ST. JOHN LUTHERAN CHURCH, 302 N. Parker Dr., Janesville, with the Rev. Judi Huseth officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4 until 7 p.m. at HENKE-CLARSON FUNERAL HOME, 1010 N. Wright Rd., Janesville. Burial will be held at Milton Lawns cemetery, Janesville. Memorials may be made in Mary's name to the church or ECHO of Janesville.

Lubkeman, Raymond F.
Oct. 4, 1929 - May 31, 2002
JANESVILLE - Raymond F. Lubkeman passed away peacefully Friday, May 31, 2002, as a result of complications from diabetes. He was born Oct. 4, 1929, to Henry and Anna (Sander) Lubkeman in Antioch, IL. On June 15, 1957, he was married to Frieda Franklin in Fulton, MO. Ray worked as a service representative for International Harvester (Navistar), Industrial Equipment Division, from 1957 to 1966, covering the New England states and the northern mid-Atlantic states. From 1966 to 1968, he was service manager for State Equipment Co., a distributor of International Harvester Industrial Equipment in Pennsylvania, New York and New England. In 1968, he purchased the Coast-to-Coast Hardware Store at Creston Park in Janesville and moved to Wisconsin to be closer to family and his cottage. In 1970, he purchased another Coast-to-Coast Store in Edgerton. In 1972, he purchased The Sno-Boat Company and later sold the hardware stores. Ray continued to operate The Sno-Boat Company, where he manufactured and marketed ice-fishing shelters until his retirement in 1992.
Ray loved his family, hunting and fishing. His cottage in Forest County, which he built with help from his parents the year of his marriage, was his passion, and many happy and memorable hours were spent there. During his retirement years, countless hours were spent visiting and drinking coffee with his many friends and acquaintances. Ray will be remembered for his sense of humor and love of practical jokes.
His wife survives him, as well as 2 children, Sharon (Andrew Welhouse) Lubkeman of Beaver Dam, WI, and David (Jodi) Lubkeman of Janesville; 2 grandsons, Noah and Eli Welhouse; a brother, Henry (Shirley) Lubkeman of Antioch, IL; a nephew; and 2 nieces.
A celebration of Ray's life will be held at ST. MARK LUTHERAN CHURCH. The service will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 5. The family will meet friends at the church prior to the service beginning at 10 a.m. Wednesday. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family requests that memorials be made to St. Mark Lutheran Church, HospiceCare, Inc., or the American Diabetes Association. The family is being assisted by HENKE-CLARSON FUNERAL HOME, Janesville.

Hills, Elaine J.
June 9, 1924 - Oct. 29, 2001
JANESVILLE - Elaine J. Hills, age 77, of 1601 N. Randall Ave., died Mon., Oct. 29, 2001 at home. She was born June 9, 1924 in Beloit, the daughter of Charles L. and Nellie A. (Carr) Coakley. She graduated from Beloit High School in 1943, and was a resident there until moving to Janesville 17 years ago. She was employed by Freeman Shoe Co., Normas' Beauty Shop in Beloit, and Parker Pen in Janesville, retiring in 1979. Elaine enjoyed crocheting, and needlepoint, and loved her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her 3 children: Joanne Ivy, Daniel Hills, and Pamela (Debbie Hunt) Hills all of Beloit; 3 grandchildren: Victoria Fudge, Andrew and Melissa Ivy; 3 great grandchildren; and a close friend, Brenda Lewis of Janesville. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, and a sister. Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thurs., Nov. 1, 2001 at SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME with Rev. Kay Welsch officiating. Interment will be in Rockton cemetery, Rockton, IL. Friends may call on Thursday from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at Schneider Funeral Home.

Joseph Leonard Strzyzykowski
Born in Chicago, IL on Feb. 15, 1933
Died Apr. 22, 2006 and resided in Janesville, WI.

JANESVILLE - Joseph Leonard Strzyzykowski, age 73, of Janesville, died Saturday, April 22, 2006 at Rock Haven Nursing Home, surrounded by his family. He was born on Feb. 15, 1933 in Chicago, IL and was the son of Anthony and Agnes Strzyzykowski. He married Joan Multon on Dec 23, 1954 in Chicago, IL. He served in the US Army in Korea. Joseph was employed at the Janesville Group Ltd. Joseph was a member of St. William Catholic Church. Joe was an avid fisherman, gardener motorcyclist and rummage saler.
He is survived by: wife, Joan; 4 children: Cynthia (John) Shickles of Beloit, Susan (Jack) Combs of Edgerton, Joseph (Alicia) Strzyzykowski Jr. of Janesville, and Edward (Lorrie Brand) Strzyzykowski of Janesville; 13 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters.
A Memorial Mass will be Celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 26, 2006 in St. William Catholic Church, with Fr. Kevin Dooley officiating. Entombment, with Military rites, will be in Milton Lawns Memorial Park. SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME is assisting the family. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
