A limb has fallen from our family tree. I keep hearing a voice that says, grieve not for me, remember the best times, the laughter, the song, the good life I lived while I was strong. Continue my heritage, I’m counting on you.
Keep smiling and surely the sun will shine through.
My mind is at ease, my soul at rest,
remembering all, how I truly was blessed.
Continue traditions, no matter how small.
Go on with your life, don’t just stare at the wall.
I miss you all dearly, so keep up your chin.
Until the day comes we’re together again.

Duane Gay
MILWAUKEE - Television reporter and anchor Duane Gay has died after a longtime public struggle with cancer. He was 49. He died Tuesday at St. Luke's Medical Center. Gay worked at Green Bay's WLUK-TV and Wausau's WAOW-TV, and he worked as a radio reporter and anchor at WLPX and WBCS in Milwaukee, WYTL and WOSH in Oshkosh and WIZM in La Crosse before becoming news director at WVTV-TV in Milwaukee in 1988. He was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and Union Grove High School. Gay joined WISN-TV in Milwaukee in 1993 as a general assignment reporter and was best known for his weekly 'It's Your Money' and 'The Inside Story' segments. Gay also briefly co-anchored WISN's morning newscasts. 'Television is two-dimensional,' said Gay's longtime friend and co-worker, WISN news anchor Kathy Mykleby. 'It has to be; we're in a box. But Duane brought an extra dimension to it. That's what grabs you and makes TV part of people's lives.' Gay first went public with his illness 13 years ago on WISN-TV. After an earlier bout with cancer, Gay was diagnosed with a rare form of soft tissue cancer in the late 1990s, and Gay went on medical leave from WISN. By 2000, the illness was in full force, and he began a series of experimental treatments, an experience that he shared with viewers. He filed periodic updates on his cancer fight, most recently appearing on WISN in a September 2004 installment of the station's 'On Assignment' news magazine. In a 1992 interview with the Milwaukee Sentinel, he explained why he was speaking publicly about it his illness. 'I'm not very famous,' said Gay, then anchoring the 9 p.m. newscast WVTV. 'But if there's a kid who's scared, I know how he feels, and if he sees someone on TV who has cancer, sometimes it helps just to know you're not alone.' WISN-TV president and general manager Frank Biancuzzo issued a statement Wednesday on the station's Web site that said Gay would be missed throughout the community. 'He was a dedicated journalist and a remarkable storyteller who shared his unique talents with everyone,' he said. 'His courage and optimism during the past few years inspired us all. Duane was always grateful for the overwhelming support from our community.' Gay is survived by his wife of eight years, Teri.
