Cornell, Elizabeth Ann
LAKE MILLS/COON VALLEY, WISCONSIN - Elizabeth Ann Cornell, age 95, formerly of Coon Valley, died peacefully at Willowbrook Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lake Mills, on Sunday, October 31, 1999 surrounded by her family. Elizabeth was born on October 22, 1904 in the Town of Washington, LaCrosse County to Wenzel and Frances Souchek. She married Arthur Cornell on July 8, 1925 in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. They farmed their married life in the Town of Washington. She greatly enjoyed quilting, crocheting and working with flowers. Survivors include her daughter, Mildred Muenzenberger and granddaughter, Sharon (Stephen) Gasper, both of Cambridge; grandson, Donald (Janice) Muenzenberger of West Salem; great-grandchildren, Kimberly (Dale) Zuelsdorf, Daniel (Jennifer) Gasper, Dawn (James) Mohoney, Traci (Joey) Strand, Elizabeth and Jessica Muenzenberger; great-great-grandchildren, Dustin and Kiefer Zuelsdorf and Ethan Mohoney; sisters, Helen Jensen, Frances Cornell and Dorothy Hinds; brother-in-law, Arthur Paulson and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband on November 24, 1966; her parents, a brother, John Souchek; sisters, Ann Paulson and Blanch in infancy and a son-in-law, Clarence Muenzenberger; three brothers-in-law; Ernest Jensen, Emil Cornell and John Hinds. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 3, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. at ST. MARY'S CATHOLIC CHURCH in Coon Valley. Father Zbigniew Kucharski will officiate with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery in LaCrosse. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday, November 3, 1999 from 9 a.m. until the time of service. REEDSBURG - James A. Frederickson, age 80, of Reedsburg, died on Monday, November 1, 1999 at the Sauk County Health Care Center. He is survived by his wife, Patricia of Reedsburg; a daughter, Sue Campion of Janesville; two granddaughters, Christine Campion of Madison, and Kelly Campion of Minneapolis, Minnesota; a sister, Helen (Ray) Horne of Orinda, California; several nieces and nephews; along with other relatives and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial for James A. Frederickson will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 4, 1999 at SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH of Reedsburg with Father Donald Wiecki and Father Lorin Bowens concelebrating. ANDERSON, SOUTH CAROLINA - Ann Marie Macier Geddes, age 46 of Anderson, South Carolina died on Monday, November 1, 1999 at her home. She was born in Champaign, Illinois on July 2, 1953 to the late Jim and June (Kremtski) Knapp. She was an employee of American Weavers in Calhoun, Georgia as a Technical Design-Coordinator. She was a member of the Covenant Baptist Church of Anderson, South Carolina and the South Calhoun Baptist Church in Calhoun, Georgia. She is survived by her husband, Rick Geddes of their home in Anderson, South Carolina; two daughters, Brandie Geddes Dieckow of DeForest and Jacqueline Geddes at home; two brothers, Mike Macier and David Arens, both of Milwaukee; two sisters, Nancy Schellenger of Reno, Nevada and Pam Manning of Milwaukee; and one granddaughter. HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SOUTH CAROLINA/ MADISON, WISCONSIN - Patricia Long Hefty, age 69, of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina died on Monday, November 1, 1999 at Hilton Head Medical Center and Clinics. Mrs. Hefty was born on December 23, 1929 in Decatur, Illinois. She and her husband, Thomas R. Hefty, Jr. resided in Madison, Wisconsin until they moved to Hilton Head Island in 1977. Patricia was a teacher by profession and continued with tutorial work while on the island. She actively participated in Altar Guild at St. Luke's Episcopal Church and the U.S. Coast Guard Auxillary. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Thomas; three daughters, Elizabeth Hefty Wortham of Atlanta, Georgia, Barbara H. Murray of Roanoke, Virginia, and Ann Weinstock of San Francisco, California; five grandchildren, Elizabeth and Madeline Murray, Hunter Donahue Wortham, and Alana and Marisa Weinstock. Mautz, Engelbert M.
SUN PRAIRIE - Engelbert M. Mautz, age 82, died peacefully of cancer at his home in Sun Prairie surrounded by his family on Tuesday, November 2, 1999. He was born February 21, 1917 in Bristol Township, the son of Joseph and Barbara (Fruth) Mautz. He married Martha Urban in 1943 in East Bristol. Bert farmed the family farm at East Bristol for 26 years, retiring in 1969. For 13 years he worked at Datex-Ohmeda in Madison and retired from there in 1982. In retirement he enjoyed traveling with Martha, woodworking, gardening, and spending time with his family and friends. For most of his life he was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Parish in East Bristol and joined Sacred Heart's Parish in 1987 when he and Martha moved from the farm into Sun Prairie. He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, the Holy Name Society, and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local 1406 District 121. He is survived by his wife, Martha; four sons, Bill (Pat) Mautz of Portage, Dan (Cathy) Mautz of Sun Prairie, John (Nancy) Mautz of Sun Prairie, and Joe (Bonnie) Mautz of Houston, Texas; three daughters, Sharon (Max) Chastain of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Barbara (David) Flesch of Madison, and Joyce (Walt) McDaniel of Perkinsville, Vermont; ten grandchildren, Steven and JJ Chastain, Lucy and Andrew Flesch, Alex and Sarah Mautz, Austin and Amber Mautz, and Maggie and Bradley Mautz; three sisters, Frances Gerry, Florenz Renz, Bertha Storch all of Sun Prairie; and a sister-in-law, Delores Wright of Waunakee. Meier, Elizabeth
SOLDIERS GROVE - Elizabeth Meier, age 86, of Mt. Calvary, Wisconsin formerly of Soldiers Grove, passed away on Monday, November 1, 1999 at the Loretto Nursing Home in Mt. Calvary. She was born in Switzerland on March 11, 1913 to Adolf and Bertha (Ettlin) Rohrer. She married William Meier in Switzerland on March 13, 1937, they moved to America in 1937. They followed the Swiss tradition and made cheese in Monroe, a town that reminded them of their homeland. From 1944 until 1954, they operated Folsom Cheese Factory. In 1957, they moved to Rolling Ground, where they owned and managed Rolling Ground Store and Tavern. Bill passed away in November of 1973. Elizabeth then retired in 1976 and moved to Gays Mills. Elizabeth loved to travel. She enjoyed trips with her family and made frequent trips back to Switzerland to visit her brothers, sisters, and other family members. She also enjoyed playing cards and visiting with friends. She was a special person and will always be a part of the people she loved and touched. Our memories of her will be with us always. She is survived by a son, Othmar (Marlene) of Soldiers Grove; three daughters, Marlies (Bruce) McKibbin of Seattle, Diane (Mike) Adams of Chilton, Wisconsin, and Betty (Rick) Stanek of Waunakee; nine grandchildren, Bill and Tom McKibbin, Greg and Randy Meier, Heidi (Craig) Stovey, Kevin and Melissa Adams, and Matt and Brad Stanek; eight great grandchildren; and three brothers and three sisters in Switzerland. Moore, Jeffrey L.
MADISON - Jeffrey L. Moore, age 43, died on Monday, November 1, 1999, unexpectedly in Madison. Jeff was born on October 29, 1956. Having just joined the UW Credit Union as President and CEO in mid-August, he had already made a significant impact on the credit union, its staff and others who came in contact with him. He was President and CEO of the Justice Federal Credit Union in Arlington, Virginia for ten years. He had also spent over 10 years at the Pentagon Credit Union in a number of positions. Jeff graduated from the University of Virginia and received a Master's degree from Purdue University. He is survived by his wife, Priscilla; and great pal and dog, Cody. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 4, 1999 at 5:30 p.m. at GRACE EPISCOPAL CHURCH, 116 West Washington Ave., Madison. O'Flahrity, Thomas R.
REEDSBURG - Thomas R. O'Flahrity, age 41, of Reedsburg, died unexpectedly on Thursday, October 28, 1999, at Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia, while on active duty in the United States Air Force. He was born on May 23, 1958, in Madison, Wisconsin, the son of Thomas L. and Jacqueline (Argall) O'Flahrity. Tom was a 1976 graduate of Madison East High School where he was on the varsity swim team for four years. He was an honor graduate of both the USAF Fire Protection Technical School and the USAF Fire Fighter/Rescueman School. On October 22, 1983, Tom was united in marriage to Barbara Alwin in Baraboo, Wisconsin. This marriage was blessed with one daughter. Tom was the Assistant Fire Chief at Volk Field with the State Of Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs in Camp dane. He was a Technical Sergeant with the Wisconsin Air National Guard 115th CES Fire Department. Tom was involved in all aspects of fire fighting from age 16. He was a Fire Service/Hazardous Materials Instructor at Western Wisconsin Technical College in LaCrosse, and Southwest Wisconsin Technical College in Fennimore. He was also a member of the State Fire Service Curriculum Task Force for the Wisconsin Technical College System. Tom enjoyed hunting during both the bow and gun seasons, and also enjoyed hiking and swimming. Above all, he loved the time he spent with his family. Tom was preceded in death by his father, Thomas; and grandmother, Florence O'Flahrity. He is survived by his wife, Barbara of Reedsburg; mother, Jacqueline O'Flahrity of Madison; daughter, Kaitlin O'Flahrity of Reedsburg; brothers, Mike O'Flahrity of Madison, and Jeff O'Flahrity of Plano, Texas; grandfather, Alfred Argall of Livingston, Wisconsin; mother and father-in-law, Leo and Margot Alwin of Baraboo; brothers-in-law, Otto Alwin of Wisconsin Dells, Steven (Cindy) Alwin of North Freedom, and Peter Alwin of Baraboo; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews along with other relatives and friends. DEERFIELD - Robert F. Pagel, age 82, passed away on Tuesday, November 2, 1999. He was born on September 25, 1917 in Rockford, Illinois. He married Lorene Sholl on July 21, 1967. He was a past president of the Agua Culture Inland Commercial Fishers Association and was active in the Village of Deerfield civic affairs. Survivors include his wife, Lorene Pagel of Deerfield; a son, Francis (Jean) Cupp of Bangkok, Thailand; and step granddaughter, Nancy (Randy) Weaver of Salado, Arkansas. Cher died suddenly of complications arising from pneumonia at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 1, 1999 at the Casa Grande Medical Center, Casa Grande, Arizona. Cheralyn was a loving mother, daughter, and sister who devoted her career to providing social and mental health services in Arizona. After graduating from Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana in 1978, she moved to Nogales, Arizona to begin her first job. Her sustained loving relationship with the Ramirez and Cordova families began in Nogales and deepened over time when she moved to Tucson and finally to Casa Grande. After moving to Casa Grande, Cheralyn worked as a crisis counselor for BHACA. In 1989, she began working for DES in Child Protective Services, later transferring to Adult Protective Services in 1992. Cheralyn was also on the Advisory Board for Western Pinal County Big Brothers/Big Sisters for more than five years. Her colleagues remember her giving selflessly to her clients and co-workers. She will be missed deeply by all who knew her. Cheralyn is survived by her son, Troy Ramirez; her brothers, Clark Roberts from Marquette, Michigan, and Caton Roberts form Madison, Wisconsin; and father, Allyn Roberts of Madison, Wisconsin. A visitation will be held at SIMES MORTUARY in Casa Grande from 5:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 3, 1999. A period of silent worship and sharing of memories will follow. Snell, Katharine
S. MADISON - Katharine Pelton Smith Snell, age 89, died on Wednesday, October 27, 1999 in Madison. She was born on November 8, 1909 in Madison, the daughter of Harry Gray Smith and Jessie Mary Pelton Smith. She attended Doty grade school, Madison Central High School, and graduated from the University of Wisconsin at Madison with a bachelor's degree in botany in 1931. She was elected to Phi Beta Kappa honorary society in 1931. She earned a master's degree in the same subject in 1933. While a graduate student, she met her husband, John Morphy Snell of St. Anne de Bellevue, Quebec, Canada. They were married on July 20, 1935 at the bride's home at 4257 Mineral Point Road, Madison. She lived a few years in the east with her husband, until his death in 1941. After that, she moved back to Madison and has lived there ever since. She retired in 1975 after working 20 years as assistant curator of the herbarium at the University of Wisconsin. Katharine was a direct descendant of William Bradford, Miles Standish, John Alden, and Richard Warren of the Plymouth Colony of 1620. Katharine was a third generation member of First Congregational Church of Madison, and was active there over the years as a nursery attendant, Sunday school teacher, cradle roll keeper, and a member of section 11. She was also an active member of the AAUW, and a member of their antiques club. Katharine lived at 228 East Sunset Court for 52 years, before moving into Oakwood Retirement Home in December 1992. Katharine was preceded in death by her husband, John M. Snell; by her brothers, Robert Standish Smith, and William Bradford Smith; and by her sister, Merian Bradford Smith. She is survived by her two children, John Bradford Snell (Jeanie) of Lake Elmo, Minnesota, and Mary Evelyn Snell Fish (Lawrence) of San Francisco; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and also by a sister-in-law, Betty Smith of Madison. Burial will take place at Roselawn Memorial Park, and a memorial service will be held at OAKWOOD MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 6201 Mineral Point Road, at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 6, 1999. WATERTOWN, WISCONSIN - George M. Ziemer, age 97, of Watertown died on Tuesday, November 2, 1999 at Marquardt Memorial Manor. George was born on September 9, 1902 in the Town of Emmit, Wisconsin to Herman and Adina (Hildeman) Ziemer. He was united in marriage on December 10, 1930 to Clara Klug in Waterloo, Wisconsin. George farmed his entire life. He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church as well as various farm organizations, and a past member of Shields Volunteer Fire Department. He is survived by his wife, Clara Ziemer; a son, Harvey (Jean) Ziemer of Watertown; two daughters, Ruby Penny (Robert) Rodes DeMott of Sun Prairie, and Lois Lance of Houston, California; and eight grandchildren. George was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Arthur Ziemer; and three sisters, Adella Holzhueter, Auralia Wahl, and Sadie Greibnow. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 5, 1999 at ST. MARK'S LUTHERAN CHURCH with the Reverend Michael Jensen officiating. Burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery.
