Jan 8, 2007 June Miller, 75, of Newton, died Saturday, January 6, 2007, at her home. She was born June 3, 1931, at Oka, Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Ernest and Martha West Brannon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Brannon; and sisters, Mary Ann Rouse and Letha Simons. June was a retired beautician and was a member of the Newton Baptist Church, Newton, since November 5, 1961. Survivors include her husband, Okey Miller, whom she married February 19, 1947, in the Newton United Methodist Church parsonage; daughters and sons-in-law, Carrolyn and David O’Neal of Oak Harbor, OH, and Sandra and Delmis Tallman of Newton; son and daughter-in-law, Jarrell and Carolyn Miller of Newton; sisters, Orpha Cottrell of Spencer and Ernestine Keaton of Orma; seven grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, January 9 at 11:00 a.m., in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Ronald W. Fisher officiating. will be in the Clover Cemetery, Clover. Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Jan 5, 2007 Beulah Elizabeth Procious Carper, 91, of Procious, entered into rest January 3, 2007, at Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Ivydale. Born on June 10, 1915, in Procious, she was the daughter of the late William and Addie Procious. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Fred Carper; sisters, Stella Thomas and Daliah Hart, and brother, Leonard Procious. She was a homemaker and a member of Horner's Fork Baptist Church. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Perry and Gracie Carper; daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Doug Osborne; grandchildren and families, Michael, Lindy and Gavin Carper, Shawn and Kellie Carper and Emily Snodgrass, Jay, Donna and Gracetyn Carper and Corey Simms, Melody, Ryan, and Alexis Gilliland and Shawn Osborne; sister, Goldie Samples. Graveside service will be l pm Saturday, January 6, 2007, at Clay Memorial Gardens, Clay, with Minister Clifford Samples officiating. There will be no visitation. Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, is in charge of arrangements.

Dec 30 2006 Alva Cogar McGlothlin, 88, of Clay, entered in rest Friday, December 29, 2006 at CAMC Memorial Division. She was a member of Hartland Methodist Church and a member of the Rebekah Lodge. Alva was preceded in death by her husband Cecil McGlothlin, parents Charles and Minnie Lance Cogar, 5 brothers, and 2 sisters. She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law Ruth Ann and Peter Parsons of Clay, Karen Sigman of Charleston, grandchildren Melissa and Curtis Browning of Oceana, WV., Sara and Darren Argabright of Chas S.C., Emily Sigman, Charles and April Sigman, Jason and Brooke Sigman all of Charleston, WV., great grandchildren Joshua Argabright, Jacob Argabright, Anna Sigman, Baylee Sigman, Cole Sigman, and Jordan Smith. Funeral service will be 1:00 P.M. Monday January 1, 2007 at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with Minister Herb Vance officiating. will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Bickmore. Friends may call from 6 to 9 Sunday at the funeral home.

Dec 29 2006 Eloise Rose Carter, 77, of Cerritos, CA, passed away December 22, 2006 at Los Alamitos Medical Center in Los Alamitas, CA. Mrs. Carter, formerly of Harrison, WV, was memorialized December 23, 2006 in Bellflower, CA, and interred at Artesia District Cemetery in Cerritos. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Hattie Rose of Harrison, and a brother, Wendell Rose of Massillon, OH. She is survived by four daughters, Carolyn Chiappe of Henderson, Nv; Brenda Krauklis of Clay, WV; Shirley Ellerbee of Grand Junction, CO; and Debbie D'ymitro of San Bernardino, CA; a sister, Patty Ratterree of Bellflower; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Dec 25 2006 V. Madeleine Bell, 86, of Clay, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, December 20, 2006 at Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Ivydale, after a long illness. Born on July 17,1920, in Lizemores, she was the daughter of the late Jesse and Della Price Fitzwater. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, William Allen Bell; two sisters, Reba Legg of Bickmore and Mary Jean of Indore; three brothers, Donald Fitzwater of Fola, Haggard Fitzwater of Indore, and Bill Joe Fitzwater of Pensacola, FL. She was a waitress at Bell?s Restaurant in Clay for many years, and was a member of Fola Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors include her three children and their spouses, William "Bill" and Kay Bell of Charleston, Barbara and Larry Hubbard of Bickmore, Janandra and Glen Nelson of Maysel; five grandchildren, Etta Kenney, Sandra Hill, Larry Hubbard II, Crissy McQuillen and David Nelson; four great-grandchildren; brother, Kenneth Fitzwater of Indore; sisters, Freda Maxine Smith of Sissonville and Wanda Morene Outten and husband, Allen, of Williamsburg, VA. Funeral service will be 11 am Saturday, December 23, 2006, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with Minister Tom Price officiating. will follow in the Reed Cemetery, Clay. Friends may call from 6 to 8 pm on Friday at the funeral home.

Dec 19 2006 Kelly Dean Keith, 66, of Bickmore, died December 18, 2006, at his residence. Born on January 16, 1940, in Clay County, he was the son of the late Herbert James and Ida M. Keith. He was disabled and a member of Peoples Baptist Church. Survivors include his brothers, Herbert "Jackie" Keith of Big Otter and Jimmy R. Keith of Bickmore; sisters, Shelby Jarvis of Clay, Judy F. Brown of Florida and Carol Y. Pierson of Bickmore. Funeral service will be l pm Friday, December 22, 2006, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with Minister Woody Gray officiating. will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Bickmore. Friends may call from 6 to 8 pm on Thursday at the funeral home.

Dec 18 2006 Ruby “Jewel” Rogers, 53, of Dixie, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, December 16, 2006, after an extended illness. Ruby was born January 25, 1953, in Montgomery. She was the daughter of the late Cecil H. O'Dell and Shirley Jones O'Dell of Dixie. She was a homemaker and a member of The Christian Church of Lizemore. Surviving are her husband, Delbert Rogers; son, Harold Rogers and wife Lisa of Dixie; stepchildren, Delbert Lee “Bubba” Rogers of Burea, Ohio, and Debbie Buckosh of Vermillion, Ohio; brothers, Cecil H. O'Dell Jr. of Sandyville and Harless Elswick of Gauley Bridge; sisters, Charlotte Elberta Foreman of Pelican, La., Debbie Lewis of Louisiana, and Corene Ryder of Ansted; grandson, Hunter Rogers; step-grandchildren, Brooke and Bethaney Buckosh; uncles, Okey Jones and wife Evie of Elkview, Ralph O'Dell and wife, Mitzi, of Dixie, and Shirley G. O'Dell of Dixie; and special friends, Anna Bell Taylor, Kathy Nottingham, and Dortha West. Ruby left a lot of loving family and friends behind. Besides her late father, Ruby was also preceded in death by her brother, King “Bucky” O'Dell; sister, Beverly O'Dell; grandmother, Ruby Mayflower Jones; and grandparents, Cecil and Myrtle O'Dell. Services for Ruby will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Pennington Funeral Home Chapel, Gauley Bridge, with the Rev. Thurman E. Sizemore, the Rev. Jadie Morris, and the Rev. Kyle Rader officiating. will follow at the Hill Cemetery at Belva. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home chapel.

Roy Arnold Keener, 76, of Kearns, Utah, formerly of Clay, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2006, at home after a long illness. He served in the Air Force for eight years and retired as a truck driver after 25 years of service. In addition to his wife, Jackie, he is survived by his daughter, Karla Peterson-Paulson; son, Dale; mother, Beatrice Keener of Elkview; brothers, Rensford Jr. of Texas, Pete of Florida and Darrell of Belle; and sisters, Artie Melton of Elkview, Joan Perdew of Ohio, Brenda Beasley of South Carolina and Norma Robinson of Elkview. Graveside services were held Monday, Dec. 18, in Valley View Memorial Park in Utah. Information was provided by Hafer Funeral Home, Elkview.

Dec 14 2006 Roy Lee Tanner, 84, of Duck, died Tuesday, December 12, 2006. Born on October 5, 1922, in Cabin Creek, he was the son of the late Frank and Judy Tanner. He was a self-employed carpenter, and a World War II Army Veteran. He is survived by his wife, Frances June Tanner of Wallback; daughters, Wyma Sue Tanner of Belle, and Beverly Lynn Harrison of Wallback; 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren. Graveside service will be 11 am Friday, December 15, 2006, at the Hardman Cemetery, Nebo, with Minister Donald Dawson officiating. There will be no visitation. Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, is in charge of arrangements.

Dec 11 2006 Jimmy A. Cook, 72, of Ivydale, entered into rest Monday, December 11, 2006, at CAMC Memorial Division, Charleston. He was born in Widen, WV., to the late Wilbur and Dessie Cook, in addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Shirley Johnson. Jimmy was a retired coal miner and a member of the Ottervale Advent Christian Church. He is survived by his wife Virginia F. Cook of Ivydale, son Jimmie "Andy" Cook Jr. of Gassaway, Step-sons Kenny Wilmoth of Pinsion, TN., Glen Wilmoth of Creston, OH., Ronnie Wilmoth of Lodi, OH., Daughter Delesa Belknap of Gassaway, WV., brother Joe Cook of Brooklyn, OH., sister Mary Triplett of Summersville, WV., 4 grandchildren, 9 step-grandchildren and 4 step-great-grandchildren. Graveside service will be Thursday, December 14, 2006 at Moorefork Cemetery, Big Otter, WV, at 11:00 AM with Minister Darious Arnold officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 9 Wednesday, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay.

Dec 11 2006 Aaron Matthew Nottingham, 32, of Snow Camp, N.C., passed away December 7, 2006, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He enjoyed being a father and a husband. He was employed with Harris Teeter as a manager in the meat department. He was a Mason in Durham, N.C., with the Oak Grove Lodge No. 750. He was a big West Virginia University fan and an avid outdoorsman. He is survived by his wife, April Ross Nottingham; daughter, Savannah Nottingham at home; parents, Ralph and Dianne Duffield Nottingham of Duck; sisters, Rhonda Nottingham of Jacksonville, N.C., and Rachael Nottingham of Greensboro, N.C., and Amanda Hughes and husband Charles of Charleston; and several nieces and nephews. The service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 12, at Richard M. Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway, with the Rev. Allen Donaldson officiating. with Masonic graveside rites will be in the Duffield Family Cemetery, Duck. Friends may call two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Savannah Nottingham's Education Fund, 7561 Babe Ruth Trail, Snow Camp, NC 27349.

Dec 9 2006 Arnett Dale Legg, of Bickmore, entered into rest Thursday, December 7, 2006. He was born August 23, 1935 to the late Frank and Alma Alice Legg, in addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Joann (Brown) Legg and a son Ricky Legg. Dale is survived by his sons Rodney Legg of Callahan Fl., Rocky Legg of Webster Springs, Ruth Legg of Charleston, Ruby Legg of Bickmore, 5 grandchildren several great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be 1:00 pm Wednesday, December 13, 2006 at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay. With minister Herb Vance officiating, burial will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Bickmore, WV. Friends may call from 6 to 8 Tuesday at the funeral home.

She was born in Nebo, WV to the late Deckard and Millie Burnside, in addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Clarence Anderson brother William ? Willie? Burnside and Dorsel Burnside. Ida is survived by her sons Lee Anderson of Bomont, WV., Windell Anderson of Ivydale, WV., Darius Anderson of Chloe, WV., daughter Madeline Matheny of KY., Sister Vera Murphy Chloe, WV., 30 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Dec 4 2006 Arbutus B. Brady, 82, of Ovapa, died Saturday, December 2, 2006, at the home of her daughter. She was born May 18, 1924, to Earley and Dicy Park Brown. She was a Christian, a member of Bethel Methodist Church at Ovapa, WV., and a retired teacher from the Clay County Board of Education. During her career she taught at Robinson Fork, Blue Knob, Twistabout, Hagar, and Clay Elementary Schools. She also taught Sunday School for many years. She was an avid Bible scholar and loved everyone. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Brady and a brother, Glenvil Brown. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Deward K. Dawson of Procious, granddaughters and their husbands, Michele and John Fowler of Charleston and Marla and Mark Nichols of Hurricane, great grandchildren, Serena and Scott Nichols of Hurricane, brothers, Denvil Brown of Elyria, OH., Otto Brown of Fola, and Ronald Brown of Eleanor; sisters, Audra Hopkins, Geraline Samples, and Sylvia Summers of Ovapa, Myrtle Belle Arbogast of Elkview, and Arlene Jett of Little Hocking, OH. He was disabled from Bendex Westinghouse and a farmer. He was a member of Rogers Fork Baptist Church. Andy is survived by his wife, Ines Rogers of Wallback; sons and daughters-in-law, Delford and Kathleen West of Wallback, Wayne and Debby Rogers of Geneva, FL, Homer D. Rogers of Melbourne, FL, and Dean and Michelle Rogers of Wallback; daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Mickey Kinder of Elkview, WV; brothers, Harley Rogers of Newton, Romie Rogers of Collins, OH; sister, Nellie Rogers of Orrville, OH; 19 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. Mable Falls Arnold, 76, of Ivydale died Nov. 21, 2006, at Laurel Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Big Otter, after a long illness. She was born Aug. 14, 1930, at Uler and was the daughter of the late Eli William and Rosa Runion Falls. She was also preceded in death by her husband, W.G. Arnold, and sister, Ruth M. Falls She is survived by her daughter, Leslie Sue Reynolds; brothers, Otto, Clarence, Willard, Roscoe, Ell Edward, Dean and Harold; sisters, Martha, Golda, Rosalee, Nina Mae, Audry and Nancy Falls; grandchildren, James and Sara; and stepson, Darius Arnold. The funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 24, at Matics Funeral Home, Clendenin, with the Rev. Dewey Tanner officiating. will be in the Falls family Cemetery, Ivydale. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
