Aug 9 2004 Madeline Chloe Rogers Cottrill, 89, of Indore, WV, died August 6, 2004 at her home after a long illness. She was a member of the Lizemores Church of the Nazarene. She was preceded in death by husband, Granville E. and one son, John Lee, three brothers and three sisters. Surviving are her daughters; Kathleen June Osburn of Lizemores, and Avril Gay Maynor of Mt. Lookout, WV; sons, Larry of Lizemores, Maynard Pal of Wilmot, Ohio, Roger Dale of Indore, WV, and Richard Wayne of Petersburg, Virginia; 21 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Funeral services will be at the Carl Wilson Funeral Home Chapel, on Tuesday, August 10, 2004 at 3:00 PM with the Ministers Robert Thomas and Larry Cale officiating. will follow at Sunset Cemetery, Bickmore, WV. Friends may call Monday, August 9. 2004 at Carl Wilson Funeral Home Chapel from 6:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M.

Aug 9 2004 Flisty Williams, 94, of Bickmore, died Saturday, August 7, 2004, at Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Ivydale. She was born on May 6, 1910, in Clay County to the late Lauren and Tobetha Ramsey. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Homer, and son, Clarence. She was a homemaker, and a life long member of Bickmore Baptist Church. She is survived by her son, Roy J. Brown of Bickmore; daughters, Daisy Hertel of Rochester, NY, Sheila Mullins of Bickmore, and Nevada Osborne of Medina, OH; 17 grandchildren, several great- and great-great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be l0 am Wednesday, August 11, 2004, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with Minister Ralph Lane officiating. will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Bickmore. Friends may call from 6 to 9 on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Aug 9 2004 Peggy Ellen Adkins, 64, of Clay entered into rest on Sunday, August 8, 2004, at her residence after an extended illness. She was a homemaker. She is survived by two sons Samuel (Frank) Adkins of Maysel, WV, and Ralph Adkins of Ivydale, WV; two daughters, Teresa Morton of Clay, WV and Lisa Adkins of Clay, WV; five brothers, Lelen of Hickoryknob, David of Groves Creek, Charles of Clay, Tommy of Groves Creek, and Dorsel of Maysel; 9 Grandchildren. Graveside Services will be 3:00 p.m. Monday 9, 2004, at Dundon Cemetery, Clay, WV, with the minister Russell McKinney officiating. Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, is in charge of arrangements.

July 29 2004 Barbara L. Collins of Clay Died July 24, 2004. She was born December 24, 1960 to Douglas F. and Effie L Collins. She is survived by her son Anthony Floyd Collins,and a daughter Amanda Collins. One Brother Douglas Edward Collins of Carneys Point, NJ. A Graveside Services will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday July 31, 2004 at Sunset Cemetery Bickmore WV., with the Minister Herb Vance Officiating.

July 29 2004 Samples, Maycle Marie entered into rest with the Lord on Wednesday,July 28, 2004 , at her home after a long illness. She was the daughter of the late Spencer G. and Elizabeth Jane Eagle. She was the wife of the late Eugene G. Samples of Procious, WV.She was the mother of eight children: Kenneth (Hook) Samples, deceased, Steve Samples of Pensacola FL,Garland Samples of Bickmore WV, Randy Samples of Wallback,WV , Thelma J. Rhodes of Clendenin WV, Rev. Wilma Dobbins of Montgomery, WV, Shelly Edwards of Procious WV, and Lisa Lewis of Clay WV. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 13 step- grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, 20 step-great-grandchildren and 2 step-great-great grandchildren. All of whom she was affectionately known as “Big Grandma”. Survivors also include 2 sisters: Bertha Perry of Ohio, Cova Sears of Duck WV, 2 bothers Clyde Eagle of Kingman, AZ and Lawerence Eagle of Adonijah,WV. Maycle was a born-again Christian and attended Liberty Advent Christian Church, Procious WV. She was a devout and loving mother and taught Christ’s love by her living example. Visitation will be Friday, July 30,2004 at Carl Wilson Funeral HomeClay WV from 6:00-9:00 P.M. A grave side service will be conducted on Saturday, July 31, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. at the A.J. Samples Cemetery, Procious, WV. Pastor Tony Rucker and Chaplain Lew Childers Officiating.

July 29 2004 Floyd Ray "Ernest" Nichols 67, of Wallback, died July 23, 2004, at CAMC-Memorial Division. He was born on April 24, 1937, in Clay County to the late Richman and Martha Nichols. He was a farm worker and a Christian. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Nichols of Wallback; sons, Franklin Nichols of NY, Floyd Nichols of SC, and Joseph Nichols of Maysel; brother, Gerald Nichols of NY; 9 grandchildren. Funeral service were held Monday July 26,2004, at Carl Wilson Funral Home Clay with the Minister William R. "Bob" Neal Officiating. was at Sunset Cemetery, Bickmore.

July 22 2004 David L. Johnson, 47, of Indianapolis, IN, died July 17, 2004, at his residence. He was born in Montgomery, WV, on May 6, 1957, to Virginia Faye Johnson. He was an auto technician for Dave’s Trucking in Indianapolis. He is survived by his mother and step-father, Virginia and Scotty Short; 2 children; brothers, Michael Neal, Scotty, Jr., Anthony, Thomas, Joseph, and Timmy Short; sister, Dreama Lee. Funeral service will be 2 pm Saturday, July 24, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with Rev. Leonard Nichols officiating. will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Bickmore. Friends may call 2 hours prior to the service at the funeral home

July 16 2004 Mary Mawalls White, 46, of Clay, died June 30, 2004. Graveside funeral service will be 10 am Saturday, July 17, 2004, at Little Laurel Cemetery, Maysel. Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, is in charge of arrangements.

July 14 2004 Reba M. Legg, 81, of Indore, died Monday, July 12, 2004, at CAMC-Memorial Division. She was born on February 6, 1923, in Fola, WV, to the late Jesse and Della Fitzwater. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles G. Legg. She was a homemaker and a member of the Indore Baptist Church since 1958. Survivors include her brother, Kenneth Fitzwater of Indore; sisters, Madeline Bell of Clay, and Freda Maxine Smith of Charleston and Wanda Morene Outten and husband, Allen, of Williamsburg, VA. Funeral service will be 1 pm Thursday, July 15, 2004, at the Indore Baptist Church, with Pastor Paul Stepp officiating. will follow in the Cline Cemetery, Indore. Friends may call from 6 to 9 pm on Wednesday, July 14, 2004, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay.

July 10 2004 Hugh Hyer Boggs, Jr., 83, of Procious, entered into rest Saturday, July 10, 2004, at Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Ivydale, following a long illness with cancer. He was born at Wallback, WV, on October 13, 1920, oldest son of Hugh H. Boggs, Sr., and Carrie Boggs. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Mae Woodall on April 1, 1956 and his step-son, Robert “Wag” Allen Gandee on November 10, 1996. He was a graduate from Spencer High School in 1938, received an AB Degree from Glenville State College in 1947, and a Master’s Degree from Marshall University in 1958 in elementary education. He retired from teaching as an elementary teacher, principal, and bus transportation director with 50 years of service in Roane and Clay Counties. He was an Army veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific Theater. He held life membership in the VFW Post 4419 in Clay, American Legion Post 21 of Spencer, and in WVEA. He had served in Headstart Programs, sports activities for the youth and was a member of Burke M.E. Church of Procious.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia Samples Gandee Boggs; son, Hugh III and wife, Barbara, of Great Falls, VA; daughter, Debra Anne Saunders and husband, John, of Leesburg, VA; brothers, Fred Boggs of Charleston and Gail Boggs of Toronto, OH; sisters, Jean Boggs of Ivydale, Janet Crisco of Charleston; grandchildren, Peter, Michael and Christin Boggs of Great Falls, VA, Laura Burhenn of Washington, DC; step-grandchildren, Rob Busser of McLean, VA, and Karmin Gandee Richmond, Tabitha Gandee and Troy Gandee, all of Princeton; step-great-grandchildren, Katy, David, Stephen and Jacob Busser of McLean, VA, Jenna Grace Gilmore and Tyler Richmond of Princeton, WV. Funeral service will be l pm Monday, July 12, 2004, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with Minister Dewey Tanner officiating. will follow in Clay Memorial Gardens, Clay, with Military Graveside Rites conducted by Clay VFW Post 4419. Friends may call from 6 to 9 pm on Sunday, July 11, 2004, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Clay VFW Post 4419.

July 4 2004 Oleva Grace Osborne, 86, of Bickmore, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 3, 2004. She was a member of Ida Baptist Church of Bentree, WV, Ladies Auxiliary 4419, Clay Senior Citizens of Clay, WV, and was the former Golden Delicious Apple Bell. She was preceded in death by her husband Hershel Osborne and son Bobby Osborne. Grace is survived by sons, Charlie of Bickmore, WV, and Teddy of Procious, WV; daughters, Colene House of Bickmore, WV, Kay Graham of Lothian, MD, Laraine Payne of Clendenin, WV, and Judy Rowe of Clay, WV; and daughter-in-law, Sue Osborne of Goodyear, AZ. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, WV, from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, July 5th. Funeral Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 6th, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home in Clay, WV, with Rev. Mike Long and John Cole officiating.

June 28 2004 Roy Murphy went to meet the Lord on June 27, 2004 at CAMC General. He was Born August 19, 1934 to the Late French and Ida (Graham) Murphy. He was Disabled. He is Survived by his brothers and their wife’s Ray and Jewel Murphy, of Painsville, OH,; Cecil and Barbara Murphy, of Wooster, OH,; Delbert and Harriet Murphy, of Maysel, WV,; Bonny Murphy, of Wooster, OH,; and Dallas and Mabel Murphy, of Wooster, OH. Sisters and their husbands Edith and Leonard Booth of Akron, OH,; and Rebecca and John Summers, of Perry OH. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday June 30, 2004 at Carl Wilson Funeral Home in Clay, WV. With the Minister Herb Vance officiating. will be in the Murphy Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday June 29, 2004 at Carl Wilson Funeral Home Clay.

June 28 2004 Dorothy M. “Dot” (Holcomb)Legg Indore- Dorothy M. Legg , 75 went home to be with the Lord on June 26, 2004. She was born to the late Frank and Littie Holcomb. She was a Charter Member of the Middle Creek Baptist Church. She is survived by two sons Greg Legg of Harrison, WV. And Geary Legg of Newton, WV. One sister Peggy Holcomb of Woodlawn, TN. One brother Billy Holcomb of Cleveland, OH. She is also survived by Three Grandsons Brian, Christopher, and Benjamin. One Granddaughter Miranda. Two Great Grandsons Jacob and Caleb. Three Step Grandsons, Four Step Great Grandsons, and One Step Great Granddaughter. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Dale, one daughter Beverly, two brothers Harold and Carl. And one sister Emogene Moore. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday June 29, 2004 at the Middle Creek Baptist Church in Bickmore, WV. Beginning at 11:00AM, with the Ministers John Osborne and Peter Scheer officiating. will follow at Sunset Cemetery. Friends may call Monday June 28, 2004 at Carl Wilson Funeral Home Chapel from 6:00 PM until 9:00PM

June 22 2004 Rose Louise Daniels, 90, of Albion, NY, died Saturday, June 19, 2004, following a long illness. She was born September 6, 1913, in West Virginia to the late Richard Gibson and Rosetta Humphrey Gibson. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Everett, in 1991, her grandson, Roy Daniels, Jr., and her great-granddaughter, MacKenzie Morton.
She had lived in the Albion area for most of her life. She attended Ashwood Wesleyan Church in Lyndonville. Suvivors include her children, Rosalee (Frank) Utarro of Rochester, Danny Daniels of Albion, Charles (Muriel) Daniels of Albion, Roy (Vera Mae) Daniels of Kent, Betty (Ernest) Loss of Albion, Raymont (Marie) Daniels of Waterport and Mary (Bobby) Mullins of Albion; her sisters, Martilla and Helen; 29 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and nieces, nephews, and cousins. Graveside funeral service will be 4 pm Wednesday, June 23, 2004, at Sunset Cemetery, Bickmore, with Minister John Osborne officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the organization of one's choice.

June 18 2004 Mrs. Antoinette M. "Moose Bear" "Moose" Quarequio of St. Albans, died Wednesday, June 16, 2004. She was a housewife. Survivors include her husband, Dr. Frank Franchesco Quarequio of St. Albans; son,Daniel Anthony Quarequio of St. Albans; sister, Maria Fatigati of Italy; nephew, George Fatigati, niece, Ida Fatigati; and many cousins in Italy.
She was loved immensely by her husband and son, who are broken hearted, and by everyone from St.
Francis Catholic Church. Graveside service will be 1 pm Friday, June 18, 2004, at the Tinney Cemetery, Braxton County. There will be no visitation.

June 15 2004 Kathleen Mae Drake, 80, of Ivydale, died June 14, 2004, at the home of her daughter, Carolyn Davis of Ivydale. She was born November 29, 1923, in Clay to the late Roy and Lina Drake of Dundon. She was retired from the dry cleaning business in Charleston, WV. Survivors include her daugher, Carolyn Davis of Ivydale; grandchildren, Mitzie S. Adkins of Ivydale and Michael D. Drake of Falcon, NC; sisters, Dixie Summers of Akron, OH, and Maxine Costa of Pass Christian, MS; 5 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren; nephew, Lowell Drake of Dundon. Graveside funeral service will be 2:30 pm on Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at the Dundon Cemetery, Clay, with Minister Russell McKinney officiating. There will be no visitation. June 15 2004 Thomas Jefferson Adkins died at CAMC Memorial divison Charleston, WV. Sunday June 13, 2004. He was a retired coal miner for Alum Creek Coal Company. He is survied by his wife Virginia Pearl (Case) Adkins of Strange Creek, WV. Sons Junior Adkins, Dale Adkins, Ronnie Adkins of Strange Creek WV, David Adkins, Tony Adkins of Birch River WV, and Michael Adkins of Dille WV. Daughters Norma Adkins of Harrison WV, Leotta Adkins of Strange Creek WV, Connie Conklin of Minnesota, and Sherri LaFever of Birch River. Step-Sons Mark Case of Richwood WV, and Bradley Case of Strange Creek WV. June 14 2004 Sylvia Helen Brannon Metheney (nee Cottrell), 84, went home to be with the Lord, Sat urday, June 12, 2004. Born Jan. 16, 1920 in Oka, W. Va. to John and Glenna Cottrell, she was a resident of Barberton for 17 years, retired from Barefoot Sole in 1979, and attended Union Missionary Baptist Church. Preceded in death by parents; brothers, Otmer, Dow, Cam, Dorsey Cottrell; sisters, Irene Boatwright, Gatha Mes senger, Garnett Cottrell; hus bands, Albert F. Brannon and Lynn H. Metheney. Surviving are son, Melvin (Linda) Brannon of Barberton; daughter, Karen (Lewis) Cook of Newton, WV; five stepchildren, Dick (Alice) Metheney, Dave (Maxine) Metheney, Paul (Melinda) Metheney, Mary (Jack) Carpenter, Avis Metheney Ryan; numerous grandchildren; great- grandchildren; brother, Okey (Nellie) Cottrell and sister, Dorma (Branty) Mollahan. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 16th at 1 p.m. at the Campfield-Hickman-Collier Funeral Home at 566 W. Park Ave., Barberton, OH. Visitation Tuesday, June 15th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Greenlawn Cemetery.

June 12 2004 Jackie Holland White, 64, of Clay, died Thursday, June 10, 2004, at CAMC -Memorial Division. He was born on November 13, 1939, in Clay County to the late Okey and Mary Ann White. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Okey and Henry White. He was a retired custodian from the Clay County Board of Education, and a member of Laurel Fork Missionary Baptist Church, Adonijah Road, Lizemores. He is survived by his daughters, Anita Rose Ferrebee, Leslie Ann White, and Jackie Ruth White, all of Clay; brothers, Darrell Arthur Keener and William Carl Johnson, both of Clay; sisters, Alice Marie White and Eva Faye Hanshaw, both of Clay, and Tootie Dulaney of Bentree; grandchildren, Jacob Ferrebee and Chelsea Ferrebee; two very special people, Tammy Marie Naylor and Chris Walls, who assisted in his care; several nieces, nephews, and friends who loved him very much. Funeral service will be 3 pm Sunday, June 13, 2004, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with Minister Jadie Morris officiating. will follow in Clay Memorial Gardens, Clay. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
