Jan 23 2004 Delmer Daubenspeck July 9, 1931-January 8, 2004 Delmer was born July 9, 1931 in Clay County, West Virginia and he passed away on January 8, 2004 in Delano, California. He was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Mary Daubenspeck; and he is survived by his daughters, Judith, Sandra and Cynthia Daubenspeck; and daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Ron Goldsberry; granddaughter, Teresa Daubenspeck; 5 great grandchildren; sister-in-law and her husband, Linda and Don Wyatt; and numerous other family members and friends. Delmer served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1958, during the Korean Conflict. Delmer was a loving and caring, husband, father and grandfather who was loved by all that knew him and he will be deeply missed

Jan 15 2004 Earl D. Keen 75 of Akron, Oh passed away Wednesday January 14, 2004 following a long illness. Born in Newton, (Roane County), WV, he was a son of the late Earl and Claudine Fields Keen. A Baptist by faith, Earl was a member of the Newton Baptist Church. He was enjoying his retirement from Teamsters Local 24, as he had been a driver for Roadway and Jones Motor Freight and was currently serving as President of the Civitan Club in Barberton, OH. An accomplished country and bluegrass musician, Earl played several instruments and was a talented singer. He was also a prankster and expert mimic who enjoyed “fooling” his family and friends with his many voices. Earl loved entertaining and preparing his famous recipes for anyone who happened by at mealtime. He is preceded in death by one sister Almeta (Mrs. Daniel) Looney of Newton, WV. Surviving are his longtime companion LuLu McClung of Manchester, OH, and loving wife of 23 years Lorena Sears Keen and Daughter Elizabeth and Son Earl Mitchell Keen, and Daughter Robin Moran of Nashville, TN, granddaughter, and great-granddaughter, sisters Ruth Runyon of Newton, Jackie Phillips of Virginia Beach, VA, Brenda King of Valley Fork, brothers Clifford of Barberton, OH, Willard of Cleveland, OH, and Neil “Bud” Keen of Big Otter, WV and many many friends who will greatly miss this jovial, giving, gentleman.

Jan 13 2004 Ralph Ray Rogers, 73, of Ovapa, died Tuesday, January 13, 2004, at CAMC-General Division. He was born on March 6, 1930, at Hartland, Clay County, to the late Patrick and Tilda Rogers. He was retired from Ford Motor Company as a stamper, an Army Veteran of the Korean War, a member of Rogers Fork Baptist Church, and a member of Clay VFW Post 4419. He is survived by his wife, Pat Rogers of Ovapa; sons, Terry Ray Rogers of Ovapa, and Larry Allan and Tracy Rogers of Ovapa; brothers, Andy Rogers of Wallback, Harley Rogers of Newton, and Romie Rogers of Collins, OH; sister, Nell Rogers of Wooster, OH; grandchildren, Katrina Nicholson (Aric), Cory Rogers, and Becca Rogers; great-grandchildren, Jocelyn Garten, Bryonna Cantrell and Arica Nicholson. Funeral service will be 2 pm Friday, January 16, 2004, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with Ministers Paul Parsons and Teddy Legg officiating. will follow in the Rogers Cemetery, Ovapa, with Military Rites conducted by VFW Post 4419.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 pm on Thursday at the funeral home.

Jan 12 2004 Mr. Gary "Brownie" Thomas, 69, of Duck, died, Sunday, January 11, 2004 at CAMC Memorial Division. He was born December 7, 1934 to the late Albert and Icie Hanshaw Thomas. He was a retired Truck Driver for the West Virginia Department of Highways. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Five Brothers, and Two Sisters.
He is survived by; Wife: Betty Jane Bragg Thomas - Duck, WV Daughters: Barbara Legg - Newton, WV Sandra Walter - Poca, WV Sisters: Betty Stalnaker - Wallback, WV Patsy Rose - Marshallville, Ohio Four Grandchildren Two Great-Grandchildren Funeral Services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, January 14, 2004 at the Carl Wilson Funeral Home Chapel, with Minister Geary David Legg and Minister Peter Scheer Jr. officiating. will follow in the Thomas Family Cemetery, Wallback. Jan 10, 2004 Lenora "Chub" J. Gray, 67, of Clay died January 9, 2004, at home. She was born on December 25, 1936, to the late William and Mamie Ellen Brooks. She was retired from the Department of Health and Human Services with over 30 years of service. She also worked for the West Virginia Children's Home Society and Shawnee Hills. She was a member of the Clay First Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Junior Gray of Clay; sons, Steven L. Gray of Maysel and Russell S. Gray of Two Run, Clay; brothers, Bobby Brooks of Chico, CA, and Jack Brooks of Glendale, WV; siser, Lahoma Ann Love of Clay; 5 grandchildren, l great-grandchild. Funeral service will be 11 am on Monday, January 12, 2004, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with Ministers Ralph Davis and Rocky Osborne officiating. will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Bickmore. Jan 8 2004 Margaret L. Laxton, 72, of Ivydale, died Wednesday, January 7, 2004, at her home.
She was born on March 29, 1931, to the late Kenny and Jane Duncan. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Romas J. Laxton. She was a homemaker. Survivors include her sons, Ernest and Thomas Laxton of Duck, and Rodney Laxton of Clay; daughters, Sandra Gill of Enoch, Eva Altizer of London, KY, Gloria Sears of Duck, Rita Payne of Berea, KY, Teresa Drake of Ivydale, and Nancy Griffith of Charleston, SC; brother, Alva Duncan of Coalwood, WV; sisters, Catherine Wilkinson of Dunbar and Emma Lusk of St. Albans; 18 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 2 pm on Saturday, January 10, 2004, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with Minister Darius Arnold officiating. will follow in the Dundon Cemetery, Clay. Friends may call from 6 to 9 on Friday at the funeral home.

Jan 5 2004 Emma Ann Smith, 62, of Strange Creek, died Monday, January 5, 2004, at CAMC-Memorial Division. She was born on February 1, 1941, to the late John and Tina Beasley. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Arch Leon Smith, brother, John Beasley, and siser, Helen Asbury. She was a homemaker. Survivors include her son, Arch Lee Smith of Ravenna, OH; daughters, Sally Fares of Strange Creek, Helen Taylor of Cowen, and Virgie Patterson of Ravenna; brothers, Billy Beasley of Ivydale and Bobby Beasley of Ohio; sisters, Katie, Mary, Mollie, Tot, Cheryl, Doke, and Peewee; 9 grandchildren, l great-grandchild. Funeral service will be 2 pm Thursday, January 8, 2004, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with Minister C. T. Mathews officiating. will follow in the Smith Cemetery, Paddy Ridge. Jan 3 2004 Edith Verna Pringle, 79, of Omar, formerly of Clay County, died Thursday, January 1, 2004, at Logan Regional Medical Center. She was born on April 29, 1924, in Cabin Creek to the late Nathan and Sadie Eagle. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Armond Roland Pringle. She was a housewife and mother, and a Baptist by faith. Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, William Kenneth and Dana Pringle, Denny Allen and Wilma Pringle, and John Dale Pringle, all of Ivydale; daughters and sons-in-law, Alice Jane and Carl Robinette of Hamlet, NC, Velma June and Robert Estrathers of Omar, and Al and Val Holcomb of Clay; brothers, Edmond Eagle of Ivydale, Dayton Eagle of Texas, Everett Eagle of Morgantown, and Dorsel Eagle of Valley City, OH; sisters, Lena Smith of Dunbar, Tressie Grose of Florida, Faye Tanner of Clay, Betty Deems of Newton, and Nancy Smith of Akron, OH; 17 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be 10 am on Sunday, January 4, 2004, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with Pastor C. D. Wolford officiating. will follow in the Mountain Home Ridge Cemtery, Ivydale.

Jan 3 2004 Robert L. Clifford, 77, of Belleville, died Wednesday, December 31, 2003, at Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Ivydale. He was born on August 10, 1926, to the late Daniel Clifford and Elsie Cook Clifford.
He was a self-employed truck driver, an Army Veteran of World War II, and a Presbyterian by faith. Survivors include his wife, Naomi Paxton Clifford of Belleville; sons, Christopher P. Adkins of Palmyra, IN, Eugene Adkins of Belleville, and Robert Clifford, Jr., of PA; daughter, Rebecca Clifford of VA; 9 grandchildren. Funeral service will be 2 pm on Sunday, January 4, 2004, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay. will follow in the Paxton Cemetery, Hansford Fork. There will be no visitation.

Jan 2 2004 Rosie Marie Workman, 74, of Moultonboro, NH, formerly of Clay County, WV, died December 29, 2003. She was born on March 19, 1929, in Richmond, VA, to the late Richmond and Martha Nichols. She is survived by her son, Bobby Stone of Clay; step-son, Michael Hanshaw of Wallback; daughters, Donna Pringle of Wallback, Myrtle Williams of Angier, NC, Phyllis Workman of Clay, Joyce Fernald of Kingsland, GA, Patricia Tgibedes of Mountonboro, NH, Sylvia Lowe of Angier, and Darlene Daniels of Bickmore; brothers, Harold Nichols of New York, and Ernest Nichols of Wallback; 29 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be 11 am Saturday, January 3, 2004, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with Minister Bill Adkins officiating. will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Bickmore. Friends may call from 6 to 8 pm on Friday at the funeral home.

Dec 27 2003 Mattie Rose, 93, of Charleston, died Wednesday, December 24, 2003, at St. Francis Hospital, Charleston, WV. She was born on September 19, 1910, in Clay County to the late Tim Rose and Harriat Rose. Funeral service will be 2 pm on Saturday, December 27, 2003, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with Minister Jerry Vance officiating. will follow in the Starcher Cemetery, Big Otter. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Dec 24 2003 Erma June Moses Collison, 59, of Sissonville, formerly of Bomont, died Monday, December 22, 2003, at Cedar Ridge Nursing Home, Sissonville. She was born on July 5, 1944, to the late Oscar Cecil Moses and Katherine Virginia Ousley Moses. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Oscar Ray Moses. She was a retired cook. She is survived by her husband, Arthur Collison of Delaware; daughter, Loretta Ramsey of Mansfield, OH; sister, Betty Layne of Bomont. Graveside funeral service will be l0 am on Wednesday, December 24, 2003, at the Lee Cemetery, Camp Creek. There will be no visitation Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, is in charge of arrangements.

Dec 24 2003 Linda L. Cunningham, 59, of Mercer, PA formerly of Duck, WV, died unexpectedly, Friday, December 19, 2003 of a cerebral aneurysm in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. She was born May 17, 1944 in Ivydale, WV to the late Russell G. and Orva M. Greathouse Boggs. She was a 1961 graduate of Clay County High School. She was a homemaker and a Protestant by faith. She liked to play bingo and loved to spend time with her family, especially her nieces and nephews. She enjoyed helping with childrens charities, and loved helping others. Her final gift wwas being an organ donor to the Center of Organ Recovery and Education of Pittsburgh. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sons, Kenneth Allan and Roy Kevin Cunningham; brother, Benny Boggs. She is survived by: Fiancee'- Gene Walker- Akron, OH Sisters and Brothers-In-Law: Patricia Meglich - Doylestown, OH Allie and William Eagle - Mercer, PA Sister-In-Law: Sally Boggs - Mercer, PA Brothers and Sisters-In-Law: Danny and Lucy Boggs - Jackson Center, PA Larry and Evelyn Boggs - Stoneboro, PA

Dec 19 2003 Ruby Ellen Samples, 90, of Clay, died Wednesday, December 17, 2003, at the Walton Inn, Walton. She was born on April 26, 1913, to the late Abner Jehue and Alice Dodd Samples. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Tommy. She was a member of Liberty Advent Christian Church, Procious, Senior Citizens Club, Ladies Auxiliary VFW, Clay County Women's Club, and Widow's Club. Survivors include her sons, Garrett D. Samples of Clendenin and Warren Neal Samples of Cleveland, TN; daughters, Nadine McKown of Looneyville, Emogene Morris of Jacksonville, FL, and Karen Dawson of Ovapa; sister, Delphia O'Dell of Ovapa; 11 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be 2 pm on Saturday, December 20, 2003, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay with Minister Toney Rucker officiating. will follow in the Sams Cemetery, Procious. Dec 19 2003 Wilbur O. Lanham, 87, of Clay, died Wednesday, December 17, 2003, at CAMC -General Division. He was born on May 24, 1916, in Clay County to the late Oley and Delta Lanham. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Jane, and his brother, Jack. He was a retired track maintenance employee from Buffalo Creek and Gauley Railroad with 13 years service, from B & O Railroad with 29 years service, and was a coal miner, formerly ran motor at Pisgah. He is survived by his sons, James, Ronald, and Gary, all of Cleveland; daughter, Carol Rose of Brunswick, OH; sister-in-law, Charlotte Susan Wolfe of Ripley; 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 11 am Saturday, December 20, 2003, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with Minister Ralph Davis officiating. will follow in the Lanham/Markle Cemetery, Maysel.

Dec 12 2003 Burnell Brown, 79, of Maysel, died December 10, 2003, of a sudden illness.
He was born on May 24, 1924, in Clay, to the late John and Annie Brown. He was an Army Veteran of World War II. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Ruth Brown of Maysel; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Sue Coulter of Woodbridge, VA; daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce Drought and Raymond Dalcourt of Albion, NY, Eileen and Gary Allen of Albion, Nancy and Kenneth Coombs of Sutton; sisters, Ruby Lane of Bickmore, Irene Taylor of Clay, Maggie Taylor of Albion, and Mart Rosario of Albion; 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and very special nephew, David Whaling of Clay. Funeral service will be 2 pm on Saturday, December 13, 2003, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with Minister James Paxton officiating. will follow in Clay Memorial Gardens, Clay.
