Doyle Boggess, Sr. of Nitro passed from his earthly life to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, March 21 after a short illness. Doyle passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Doyle was born on January 20, 1932 in Charleston, the son of the late Dempsey and Mary Bowyer Boggess. He was also preceded in death by one brother Jim.
Doyle was the former owner of Nitro Supermarket. After selling the supermarket, he was associated with Heck’s Department Store. He later returned to the Nitro Supermarket, where he continued to work with his good friend, Andre Haikal, until his recent illness.
In his spare time Doyle enjoyed hunting and spending time at his place in Pocahontas County.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Doyle leaves a host of relatives, friends and neighbors and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife Glenda Browning Boggess. April 11 would have been their 46th wedding anniversary. Doyle also leaves three sons, Steve and wife Linda of Clay, Jarrell and wife Joyce of Logan, Doyle Jr. and companion Pat Shaffer of Charleston, one daughter Kim Morgan and fiancée Pete Torrico of Beckley, 11 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, two brothers Robert and Jerry both of St. Albans, three sisters Cleo Cobb of Dunbar, Bonnie Eickhoff and Carol Conley both of Washington.
Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Wednesday March 23, 2005 at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Gail Medley and Rev. Robert Boggess officiating. Final resting place will be at Tyler Mountain Memorial Gardens.
Friends and family may gather 6 to 8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Kanawha Hospice 1143 Dunbar Ave. Dunbar, WV 25064.

Clarence Edward “Eddie” Riffee, 67 of Red House died March 26, 2005 at Thomas Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
Eddie was born June 7, 1937 in Given, WV. He was preceded in death by daughter Nikki Ann Riffee and parents Okey and Malina (Casto) Riffee.
He was in business as a dealer in fur, roots and recycling for the last thirty five years. He was retired from FMC Nitro with 40 years of service. He was a member of Kanawha Valley Masonic Lodge # 36.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years Ann (Workman) Riffee, one adopted grandson Brandon J. Riffee of Cross Lanes, sister Becky (Lee) Jividen of Prospect, OH and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday March 30, 2005 with Pastors Wayne Hooper and James Kessick officiating. will follow at Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens in Hometown with Masonic rites.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.

Betty Jane Thomas, 78 of Nitro passed away March 27, 2005 at Thomas Memorial Hospital. She was born October 3, 1926 in Poca, WV.
Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her husband Denver “Shorty” Thomas, Sr.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and homemaker.
She is survived by her son James and wife Brenda Thomas of Hurricane, daughter Joyce Dawson of Charlotte, NC, daughter Carol and husband Larry Caruthers of Nitro, son Denver “Bozo” and wife Janie Thomas of St. Albans, daughter Janet and husband Bob Stocks of Newport News, VA, daughter Janette and husband Lonnie Eskew of St. Albans, son Joseph Thomas of Nitro, 16 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, sisters Mary Sue Erwin of Poca, Ann Milbee of Nitro, Deloris “Corky” York of Grantsville, Edna Tucker of Eleanor, brothers James and Joseph Milbee both of Poca.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM Thursday March 31, 2005 at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Delbert Hawley officiating. Entombment will follow in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens; Red House. Friends may call 6 to 8 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Janice L. Chandler, 78 of Poca went home to be with the Lord on Easter Sunday, March 27, 2005.
Mrs. Chandler was a Godly wife, mother and grandmother. Jan was also a faithful member of Rock Branch Independent Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband Fleary “Butch” Chandler, parents Earl and Kate Hanson and brother Jr. Hanson.
She is survived by her children Jerry and wife Pat Chandler of St. Albans, Nancee and husband Doug Gunter of Cross Lanes, Patti and husband Roger McClanahan of Fayetteville, and Dicky Chandler of Poca, three sisters Betty Moore, Evelyn Bostic and Linda Hunter, nine grandchildren Rocky and Casey of St. Albans, Scott and Chasity of Nitro, Tisha of Hurricane, Todd and Chad of South Carolina, Brian of Cross Lanes and Heather of Charleston, ten great grandchildren Hunter, Madison, Sara, Haley, Gretchen, Jarrett, Katie, Lyndsey, Jake and Isabella.

Robert J. “Jack” Horton passed from this life on April 1, 2005 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Jack was preceded in death by parents, Charles and Grady Horton, brothers Paul, Bud, Kemp and Charlie and sisters Mary and Pauline.
He is survived by his wife Peggy, children Jerry and wife Cynthia, Rob and wife Renee, Debbie and husband Greg, Carl and wife Debbie, Pat and wife Sherry, 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, many loving family members and friends.
Thanks to the wonderful people at Teays Valley Center for their kind care and concern and to the many family members and friends who have helped us through the years of Jacks illness.
Jack was retired from Monsanto. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who had a wonderful sense of humor and leaves his children and grandchildren with many happy memories and stories to tell. He will be missed more than words can say.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 PM Monday April 4, 2005 at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home. Private services will be held at a later date.

Jacob Michael Fritz, our little angle, entered our lives on February 15, 2005 and went back to be with Jesus April 7, 2005.
Jacob is survived by his loving mommy and daddy, Shannon and Michael Fritz; sister Emily Fritz; and maternal grandmother Diane Lester of Tampa, FL. Jacob is also survived by a host of loving family and friends.

Mary Lou Brown, 58 of Liberty passed away April 7, 2005 in CAMC Memorial Division.
Mrs. Brown is a Teachers Assistant at Eastbrook Elementary School.

She is survived by her loving husband William D. Brown; four children William Allen Brown and wife Tabatha of St. Albans; Robert Scott Brown of Buffalo; Robin Denise and husband Roger Bowling of Liberty and Ruby JoAnne Craig of Buffalo; one sister Ruth Ann and husband Fred Knoke of Sissonville; seven grandchildren Christopher, Casey, Justeen, Joseph, Michelle, Braddock, and Kelsie.

Mrs. Sara Elizabeth Kidd Withrow
On April 20, 2005 at 8:30 a.m. Sara Elizabeth Kidd Withrow, 62, entered into eternal rest.
She was a retired custodian from the Kanawha County Board of Education
She is survived by her loving husband, George A. Withrow Sr., daughters Lucinda L. Carter and Tina M. Adkison; sons, George A. Withrow, Jr. and Homer K. Withrow; sisters, Kathleen Hooper and Leona Higdon; brothers in law, Homer Withrow and Ernest Withrow; sisters in law, Catherine Lanza and Garnet Campbell; 15 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 25, 2004 at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home, Poca with Rev. Charles Carter officiating. will be in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Mrs. Dorothy Beatrice Lucas Priddy , 92 of Rock Branch went home to be with the Lord April 25, 2005 at home.
Mrs. Priddy is a native of Martins Branch, married Clayton Henry Priddy, Sr. on October 6, 1932, saved January 1933 at Rock Branch Church of God Mission, Adult Bible Class Teacher at Nitro Church of the Nazarene for 32 years, and Member of Heizer Creek Community Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband Clayton Henry Priddy, Sr., daughter Nellie Ann Cook, son Paul R. Priddy, parents Henry and Ava Elizabeth Bailey Lucas, sister Gladys Smith, and brothers James, Eugene, Ralph, and Leroy Lucas.
She is survived by her children Charles A. Priddy and wife Donna of Old Fort, OH, Frank L. Priddy and wife Brenda of Pickerington, OH, John L. Priddy and wife Earlene of Nitro, Sharlotte Snyder and husband Sam of Cross Lanes, Clayton H. Priddy, Jr. and wife Pat of Scott Depot, and Mary E. Sizemore and husband Charles of Rock Branch, sister Edith Gott and husband Ernest of Watha, NC, son-in-law Harold Cook of Nitro, 20 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Priddy is also survived by nieces, nephews and special friend Drema Payne.

Mrs. Eleanore Casto Lawson, 66 of Hurricane, formerly of Red House passed away April 26, 2005.
Mrs. Lawson is retired from John Henson Senior Center and she was especially known for her respect and service to others in the community.
She was preceded in death by her husband Billy Gene Casto.
She is survived by her husband Carroll G. Lawson; three children Tina and husband Jeff Faber of Kenna, Mark and wife Kathy Casto of Eleanor, and Dale and wife Mandy Casto of Red House; brothers Donald Asbury of El Toro, California, Hershel Asbury of Chicago, Illinois, Orville Asbury of Charleston, Burt Asbury of Charleston, Frank Asbury of Liberty and Ray Asbury of Liberty, sisters Audrey Myrice of Bay City, Michigan, Loretta “Cookie” Wheeler of Chicago, Illinois, Lenore Taylor of Kenna and Jane Asbury of Liberty, five grandchildren Seth, Sarah, Cheyenne, Chase, and Chakotay.

Susan Elizabeth Wilson, 27, died peacefully in her sleep May 2, 2005 after a courageous battle with liver and kidney disease. She is survived by her parents Drs. Robert and Nancy Wilson, brother Scott, grandmother Margaret Wilson, and numerous family and friends. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Arthur and Martha Merrilees and Robert Wilson.
Susan was a graduate of Winfield High School, playing in the band. A graduate of Centre College, she earned a BA in Psychology, was president of her service organization there, and received the top honor for outstanding student research in Psychology. At Marshall University, she earned a MA in Psychology and a Graduate Certificate in Behavioral Statistics. She was studying School Psychology at Marshall University Graduate College at the time of her death.
While a student, Susan maintained a varied and rich professional life. She was active in helping people, from working as an AfterCare Specialist in the jail system to being an accomplished statistician in public, business, and academic sectors, earning distinction in many fields. She pursued many interests including the study of culture and religion and especially enjoyed her trips to Ireland and Australia. Susan was always researching a better way to help people, especially young children.
She touched many lives during her short time on earth. She will be missed by those who met her. Friends may visit with the family at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home in Poca on May 12, 2005 from 6 – 8 p.m. A private family service will held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Susan requested memorials be made to the Sojouners, 1114 Quarrier Street, Charleston, WV 25301 to support shelters for women and children or to a charity of the giver’s choice.

Mrs. Angela R. Craigo Settle, 28 of Poca and Longs, South Carolina went home to be with the Lord June 5, 2005.
Angie is a 1994 graduate of Poca High School; 1998 graduate of Marshall University serving her internship in Nutrition at Virginia Tech. Angie is a former employee of Loris Community Hospital and Grand Strand Regional Hospital. She was a member of the American Dietetic Association and Lone Oak Church of God Mission. Angie volunteered her time in the Relay for Life and Meals on Wheels.
She is preceded in death by her maternal grandmother Audrey Arthur and paternal grandfather John S. Craigo.
She is survived by her devoted husband Jason R. Settle; mother Sherry V. Craigo of Poca; father Michael L. Craigo of Red House; sisters Jenny and husband Billy Harper of Red House and Debby Joyce of Winfield; brother Tony and wife Meredith Craigo of Red House; maternal grandfather William V. Arthur of Ripley; paternal grandmother Evelyn “Babe” Craigo of Red House; father and mother-in-law Richard and Pam Settle of Little River, SC; sister-in-law Sheri and husband Todd Flanery of Longs, SC; brother-in-law Brian and wife Sheryl Settle of Hurricane; nieces Gabrielle Joyce and Shanda Settle; nephews Brandon Flanery, Caleb Joyce, Chance Jones, and Dalton Jones and her dog Berky.

Mrs. Velma Witt, 91 of Grove City, OH, formerly of Cross Lanes went home to be with the Lord June 18, 2005.
Mrs. Witt attended Community Chapel Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband Venis Witt.
She is survived by her six loving children Orville and wife Charlotte Witt of Poca; Kendall and wife Lenni Witt of Demascus, Maryland; Paul and wife Stephanie Witt of Neptune Beach, FL; Shirley and husband Kenny Hall of Columbus, OH; Linda Gooch of Grove City, OH and Barbara Berry of Grove City, OH; one sister Freda Witt of Cross Lanes; sister-in-law Wilda Parkins of Cross Lanes; eight grandchildren Candie Kennedy, Brian Hall, Tim Witt, Michael Witt, Lisa McConnell, Jamie Gooch, Shawn Berry, and Justin Witt; and 12 great grandchildren.

William G. “Bubby” McClanahan, 61 of Poca passed away June 22, 2005 at home.
Mr. McClanahan is a employee of Kanawha Manufacturing; an Army Veteran and an avid fisherman and hunter.
He is preceded in death by his parents Jack and Wilma McClanahan and brother Jackie Ray McClanahan.
He is survived by his wife Jan McClanahan; five children Shauna L. Dills of Columbus, OH; Trisha E. Yarber of Knoxville, TN; Elizabeth I. Brown at home; Randy L. Dillard of Liberty and Joseph D. Dillard of Quick; two sisters Sharon L. Rummell of Red House and Joyce Ann Slater of Sissonville; brother Danny L. McClanahan of Poca; two grandchildren Ivory Belle Dillard and Kaitlyn L. Dillard and a host of nieces and one nephew.

Mrs. Barbara Wygal Miller, 64 of Nitro went home to be with the Lord July 7, 2005 at home.
Mrs. Miller is a 1958 graduate of Nitro High School; Attended West Virginia State College and 15th Street Nitro Church of God and retired from College and University Systems of WV in 2000.
She is preceded in death by her parents Frank and Elizabeth Wygal of Nitro; her husband Tom Miller and nephew Justin Wygal.
She is survived by her loving daughter Lori Beth and husband J.R. Gibson of Milton; Brother Jim and wife Patti Wygal of Poca; two sisters Patti and husband Frank Neary of Winfield and Debbie and husband Ed Bridgette of Poca; two sister-in-laws Jean and Mitzi Roberts both of St. Albans; and one grandson T.J. Gibson. Barbara is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Eric Hicks and the Right at Home Health Care Agency and Jeff Carrier and the staff at Kanawha Hospice for all their love and support. A special thank you to Brenda, Delma, Marilyn, Micki, and Joann for being so good to Mom.

Mrs. Cecelia Lacey Shaffer, 87 of Raymond City passed away on the 21st day of July 2005.
Cecelia was born February 14, 1918. She was preceded in death by husbands Willard Shaffer and Chester Lacey.
Cecelia is survived by her daughter Patricia Smith of Nitro; son Virgil “Peewee” Lacey of Elizabeth; and sister Juanita Lewis of Raymond City.
She resided in Raymond City with her grandson John McGlone. She is also survived by three other grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
She was an employee of Poca Supermarket for over thirty years. For the past sixty years she has been a faithful member of the Raymond City Community Church.

Mr. O.B. “Benny” Goodall, 75 of Scott Depot went home to be with the Lord July 21, 2005 at home.
Benny is retired from Monsanto with 45 years of service and a member and trustee of the First Baptist Church in Nitro.
He is preceded in death by his wife Martha R. Goodall.
He is survived by his four children Tammy Rohaley of Scott Depot; Joseph and wife Caroll Goodall of Tornado; Kimberly and husband Steve Hoffman of Scott Depot and Scott Goodall of Greenville, SC; three grandchildren Kayla Rohaley, Zachary Hoffman and Cassidy Hoffman.

Mr. Gary E. Hensley, 55 of Cross Lanes passed away suddenly July 23, 2005.
He was born August 7, 1949 and was the son of Garnet Hensley and the late Eugene Hensley of Nitro. He graduated from Nitro High School in 1967.
He is survived by his wife and soul mate of 34 years, Susan Diane Houston Hensley. (They would have celebrated their 34th anniversary on Sunday, July 24, 2005). Other survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and James Schaale of Massachusetts, daughters Amy Adele Hensley of Ona, and Alexandra A. Hensley of Cross Lanes, sister Deborah Hensley Houston and husband Alan Houston of Charleston, SC, granddaughters Brittany, Cassidy, Hannah and one granddaughter on the way, and one grandson Ryan.
Many friends and family members will sadly miss him. He worked at Hobet Mining, Inc. for over 25 years. Gary loved his family very much. He loved hunting, fishing and outdoor activities, and most of all his faith in God.

Mrs. Denise Ann Olive Bailes, 42 of Poca was born May 6, 1963, passed away July 29, 2005 in Thomas Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
She is survived by her loving husband Roy Dale Bailes, daughter Amanda Bailes of Poca; son Joseph D. Bailes of Poca; mother Carolyn Olive of Elkview; father Rex Olive of Elkview; brother Rex Allen Olive, Jr. of Elkview; sisters Meika Shawn Anglin of Cherry Valley, CA; Anita Dawn Carey of Banning, CA and Melissa Lynn Young of Elkview.

Mrs. Helen McClanahan Casto, 79 of Burnsville, formerly of Red House went home to be with the Lord July 31, 2005 in Sunbridge of Glenville.
Mrs. Casto is a 15 year resident of Burnsville; former 38 year resident of Red House; member of Grandview Baptist Church, Burnsville Lions Club and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
She is preceded in death by her husband E.G. “Gerald” Casto.
She is survived by her children Penny McConnell and husband Andy of Cincinnati, OH and Tom Casto and wife Lamona of Burnsville; two sisters Monda Trent and Brenda Francis both of Orlando, FL; three brothers John McClanahan of Cross Lanes, Junior McClanahan of Arbovale, and Jewell McClanahan of Nitro; three grandchildren Phillip Sams, Priscilla Klein, and Tom Casto; four grandchildren Joshua Casto, Ashley Sams, Jordan Klein and Kylee Sams.
