Mrs. Ruth Mattea, 84, of Cross Lanes, passed away quietly Wednesday morning at home after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.
She was born March 8, 1921 in Bancroft, WV, graduated from Poca High School in 1939, attended Capitol City Commercial College and after graduating worked for the United Mine Workers. She was a devoted wife and mother, an avid bridge player, and fierce opponent in any competitive card game. She also loved to fish and had a green thumb.
She is preceded in death by first husband Lawrence Cappellanti, second husband John Mattea, sisters Peg Dailey and Gert Echols of Bancroft, and Josephine Caruthers of Poca;
She is survived by sisters Eva Mae Summers and Alice Legg of Cross Lanes, son and daughter-in-law Joe and Lynn Mattea of Poca, son and grandson Mike and Jon Mattea of Cheshire, Ohio, great-grandson Tyler Goodall of Point Pleasant, daughter and son-in-law Kathy Mattea and Jon Vezner of Nashville, TN; also beloved caregivers Mary Dustin and Peggy Davis of Charleston, and Nancy Kelly of Eleanor.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 PM Friday August 12, 2005 at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home.
Services will be held Saturday at noon at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home with Father Joseph Hacala officiating. Interment will follow in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens; Red House.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Kanawha Hospice Care, Inc, 1143 Dunbar Ave. Dunbar, WV 25064 or the Alzheimer's Association 1111 Lee Street, East Charleston, WV 25301.

Scott Alan Gibson, 12, of Liberty departed this life on Saturday August 20, 2005 due to an accident.
Scott was preceded in death by his aunt, Thelma Gibson of Charleston.
He is survived by his parents, Vernon and Angela Gibson; sister, Amanda Gibson; brother, Daniel Gibson all of Liberty; paternal grandmother, Mary Sarah Gibson of Rand; maternal grandparents, Earl and Carol Meadows of Liberty and Herman Harlow of St. Albans; uncles, Roy Gibson and wife Tina of Ripley, Mickel Gibson and wife Pat, Carl Gibson and wife Tracy all of Cedar Grove, Jimmy Meadows and wife Kela, and Bobby Meadows all of Liberty; Aunts, Cristine Jones and husband Kermit, Dreama Gibson and boyfriend Chris Elswick all of Rand; Stacy DeVaughn and husband James of Dunbar, Michelle Davis and husband David of Buffalo, Belinda Meadows and boyfriend Jeff Allen of Yawkey, Kathy Meadows and boyfriend Roy Cook of Charleston; 30 immediate cousins and countless other family members and close friends.
Service will be 11:00 am Thursday August 25, at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home, Poca, with Ralphie Ranson officiating. will follow in Asbury Cemetery, Liberty. Friends may call from 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Euna R. Anderson, 88 of Hometown, formerly of Poca, died September 15, 2005 at home after a long illness.
She was a homemaker and Methodist by faith.
Preceding her in death were husband Lowell F. Anderson, parents Rev. H.H. and Freda Rinehart, two sisters Rita Johnson and Ola Barr, brother “Junior” Rinehart and two grandchildren.
Surviving are two sons Nolan and wife “Sissy” Anderson of Hometown and Frank and wife “Ellie” Anderson of Nitro; daughter Rita and husband Lee Cottrill of Red House, granddaughters Beth and husband Greg Dotson of Winfield, Jill and husband Richard Fisher of Red House and Kara Anderson of Morgantown, grandsons Lee and wife Susan Cottrill of Red House, David and wife Lori Cottrill of Poca and Paul Cottrill of Red House, great grandchildren Sarah, Mackenzie, Mikayla, Dakota, Cameron, Carson, Madison and Nathan, two brothers Orris Rinehart of Poca and Ray Rinehart of Sacramento, CA.
Special thanks to her caregivers Martha Burdette, Sandy McKneely, Shawn O’Brien and Everett Ellis.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM Saturday September 17, 2005 at Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens Chapel with Pastor Joe Scarberry officiating. will follow in the memorial gardens. Friends may call 6 to 8 PM Friday at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home.

Charles G. Buckley, 75 of Winfield, passed away September 23, 2005, at home following heart surgery.
Charles was born January 31, 1930 in Kanawha County. He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Vesta Buckley of Hernshaw, and brother, John D. Buckley of Charleston.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Julia A. Hastings Buckley; son, Charles Dana Buckley, and his wife, Kathy, of Hurricane; daughter Carrie L. Mallory and her husband, Roger of South Charleston; daughter Kelli D. Fewell and her husband, Bryan of Winfield; brother, William L. Buckley, of Melbourne, FL; sisters Carolyn Ranson of Gary, NC, Shirley Harless of Hernshaw, and Phyllis L. Straight of Fernnandiana Beach, FL; and three grandchildren, Quentin and Christian Buckley of Hurricane and Aaron Fewell of Winfield.
Charles was retired from the U.S. Corp of Engineers as a maintenance supervisor at the Winfield Locks and Dam. His love was showed in service. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marines. He loved God through devotion in his daily walks as father, husband, grandfather, and friend.
He especially enjoyed the role of grandfather, and had a unique, loving relationship with each of his three grandsons. He was a mainstay in all their school and sporting events and backyard building projects. He will be remembered as a person whose Christian walk was seen in his loving support of his family according to Micah 6:8’s admonition to “do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with thy God.”
A private family service will be held Tuesday September 27, 2005 at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Dan Festa officiating. Entombment will follow in Cunningham Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers donations are requested for the Winfield Presbyterian Church, Winfield.

Mr. Kenneth Ray " Bub" Barnett, 59 of Clarkesville, TN passed away September 23, 2005 at the VA Hospital in Nashville after a long illness.
He was born July 16, 1946 and grew up on Grandview Ridge at Red House. He was the son of the late Kenneth Clayo Barnett. He was preceded in death by his grandma and grandpa Vicie Casto Barnett and Clayo Barnett and Ola Jones Goddard and Stanley Goddard.
He was a 1965 graduate of Buffalo High School and was in the army from January 25, 1966 to February 28, 1986. His rank was E-7, Sergeant First Class. He was a food service specialist and chief cook and motor transport operator. After retiring from the army he worked as a food specialist and defense packaging of hazardous materials for transportation. He received the army service ribbon, overseas service ribbon, good conduct medal, national defense service medal, republic of Vietnam campaign medal, overseas service bars, professional development ribbon, army achievement medal, army commendation medal, Vietnam cross of gallantry with palm unit, Vietnam service medal with 8 campaign stars and a whole lot more. He completed courses in creasing human effectiveness, leadership education and development, quality assurance evatutor course, his degree of associate in arts and many more. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.
He is survived by his wife Nancy Barnett; daughter Jeanette Stillwell of E-Town, KY; mother Ivy Barnett Tucker of Eleanor; sisters and brother-in-laws Betty and Carroll Adkins of Eleanor; Barbara and Thurman Luikart of Midway; Faye and Charlie Buzzard of South Carolina; Eva McClanahan of Buffalo; brother Robert and wife Bev Barnett of North Carolina; two grandchildren, two step-children and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mr. Wilmer Woodson Brewer, 80 of Red House passed away on September 24, 2005 at home on Grandview Ridge surrounded by family and friends after a long battle with cancer.
He was born on July 31, 1925. His mother and father, Sally and Ramah Brewer, preceded him in death. He is preceded in death by his brothers Jack, Tom and James Brewer and sisters Betty Westfall, Mary Persinger and Christine Hypes .Mr. Brewer is retired from the Ohio River Company with 28 years of service; former 18 year employee of Putnam County School Board as a bus driver and 17 years with United Automotive.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years Bethalee Brewer; daughter Diana and husband Kenny Rollins of Scott Depot; sons Gary and wife Kathy Brewer of Jenison, Michigan; Woody and wife Chris Brewer of Poca and Danny and wife Val Brewer of Poca; sisters Jean and husband Eugene Meeks of Hometown and Jo Harper of Ashland, KY; brother Bill and wife Juanita of Rock Branch; grandchildren Allen Rollins, Aaron and wife Jennifer Rollins, Matthew Brewer and fiancé Jodi, Stacy and husband Mark Ellens, Christopher and wife Rachel Brewer, Natasha Brewer, Nicholas Brewer, Ben Brewer, Shannon and husband Mark Nelson and Brittany Brewer; great grandchildren Seth Rollins, Maycie Rollins, Eli Rollins, Emma Ellens, Brayden Ellens, Madelynn Ellens, Jacob Ellens, Savanna Nelson, and Taylor Nelson.
Funeral Service will be 2:00 PM Wednesday September 28, 2005 at Riverside Baptist Church with Pastor Michael Hanna, Paul Whitt and Christopher Brewer officiating. will follow in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens; Red House. Friends may call 5 to 8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home and 1 hour prior to service at the church on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bibles International Memorial Fund, 609 36th St. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49548.

Stuff Shank, 63 of Milton passed away October 6, 2005 in Hubbard Hospice House.
Mr. Shank is retired from the Air National Guard; Service Manager for Jefferds Corporation; an Avid Bass Fisherman and a member of the Bear Creek Bassmasters.
He is survived by his mother Lorene Shank of Culloden; two sons Greg and wife Robin Shank of Liberty and Kevin Shank of Charleston; four brothers Jimmy Shank of Georgia; Gary Shank of Pennsylvania; David Shank of Georgia; and Terry Shank of Nitro; special friends Gary and Donna O’Neal and Family; cousins William and Wanda Shank; three grandchildren Jordan, Ashley, and Jessica.
Funeral Service will be 2:00 PM Saturday October 8, 2005 at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home Chapel. will follow in Center Point Cemetery. Friends may 6 to 8 PM Friday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Marguerite Frances Miller, 85 of Bancroft passed away October 11, 2005 at the Hubbard Hospice House.
Mrs. Miller attended Bancroft Church of God Mission.
She is preceded in death by her husband Paul Edward Miller; daughter Julia Grace Deardorff; son James Lawrence Miller; father Alva Querrey; mother Julia Hall Querrey Whitlock; step-father Lawrence “Jay Bird” Whitlock; maternal grandmother Averila “Marshall” Hall; maternal grandfather Joel E. Hall; and sister Helen L. Painter.
She is survived by four children and their spouses Paul R. “Buddy” and wife Barbara Miller of Bancroft; Harry H. and wife Gail Miller of Little River, SC; Janet Sigman of Eleanor; and Larry A. and wife Doris Miller of Bancroft; daughter-in-law Sandra Miller of CA; son-in-law Gene Deardorff of Bancroft; sister Vivian “Dove” Hash of Bancroft; 16 Grandchildren; 25 Great Grandchildren and 4 Great-Great Grandchildren.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM Saturday at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home Chapel with Pastors James Arthur and David Panaro, Jr. officiating. Entombment will follow in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens; Red House. Friends may call 6 to 8 PM Friday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Lennie M. Harrison, 90 of Red House went home to be with the Lord October 20, 2005 at home.
She was a member of Wade Chapel United Methodist Church and a former member of Poca United Methodist Church.
She is preceded in death by her sons Bennie and Alexander Harrison and daughter Mary Harrison.
She is survived by her husband Sam Harrison of 71 years; four children Irene Painter of West Monroe, LA; Judy Roberts of Columbus, OH; Patsy Sigman of Red House and Sammy Harrison of Red House; two sisters Rachel Alexander of Nitro and Dolly Grimwood of Delaware and 107 grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Funeral Service will be 2:00 PM Sunday October 23, 2005 at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Stephen J. White and Pastor Wayne Hooper officiating. will follow in Wade Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call 6 to 8 PM Saturday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Thelma Miller Postlethwaite, 92 of Nitro went home to be with the Lord November 3, 2005 in Hubbard Hospice House.
Mrs. Postlethwaite was a member of the Nitro Church of Christ and the daughter of the late Edward and Bessie Miller. She was preceded in death by her husband Curtis “Mike” Postlethwaite.
She is survived by her sons Arnold E. Postlethwaite of Eads, TN and David G. Postlethwaite of Ripley; sisters Sue Randolph of Pt. Pleasant and Marian Garton of Nitro with whom Thelma lived with; brother Vernon Miller of Smyrna, TN and five grandchildren.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM Saturday November 5, 2005 at Nitro Church of Christ with Minister Craig Culbertson officiating. will follow in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens; Red House. Friends may call 6 to 8 PM Friday at the Nitro Church of Christ and 1 hour prior to service at the church on Saturday.

Mrs. Gaynell Cottrill Finch, 85 of Poca went home to be with the Lord November 7, 2005 in Broadmore Assisted Living.
Mrs. Finch was a former longtime employee of the Putnam County Assessors office; Member of the Poca Methodist Church and Attended the Poca Baptist Church; member of the Rebecca Lodge and the Nitro Senior Citizens.
She is preceded in death by her husbands Frank L. Cottrill, Sr. and Thomas Finch and an infant granddaughter.
She is survived by two sons Lee and wife Rita Cottrill of Red House and Layton and wife Barbara Cottrill of Huntington; two step-daughters Carol and husband Larry Morrison of Melbourne, FL and Renee and husband Ronnie Withrow of Statesville, NC; three grandchildren Lee and wife Susan Cottrill of Liberty; David and wife Lori Cottrill of Poca and Paul Cottrill of Red House; five step grandchildren Clay and Michael Morrison of Melbourne, FL and David, Amy and Jill Withrow of Statesville, NC; four great grandchildren and six step great grandchildren.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM Thursday November 10, 2005 at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jim Butcher and Pastor Jonathan Nettles officiating. will follow in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens; Red House. Friends may call 6 to 8 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
