William L. Clutter
William L. Clutter, 73, of Gassaway, died March 26, 2001 at home. He was born March 30, 1927, in Sutton, a son of the late Charles and Mary Wine Clutter. He was also preceded in death by sisters, Mabel Williams, Leo Stout, Allie Benedict, Lucille Gooden, and Lula Hart; brother, Charles Clutter. He was a machinist, a Navy veteran of WWII, and a member of the VFW and Moose Club. Surviving, several grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. A memorial service will be held at a later date. The body was cremated. Richard M. Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway is in charge of arrangements.

Wilma H. Mellon
Wilma H. Mellon, 80, of Ninth Avenue, Brackenridge, died 8:15 pm, Thursday, March 22, 2001, in Allegheny Valley Hospital, Natrona Heights, Harrison, after a lingering illness. Born January 5, 1921, in Sutton, WV, she lived in Brackenridge the past 53 years. Mrs. Mellon was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Brackenridge. Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Alexander Mellon; three sons, Alexander Mellon Jr. of Plum, Arthur Mellon of Lower Burrell, and Robert Mellon of Cheswick; a daughter, Mrs. John (Cynthia) Irvin of Lower Burrell; six grandchildren; a great grandson; three brothers, Donley Helmick of Jane Lew, Arthur Helmick of Gassaway, and Harold Helmick of Sutton, all in West Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Orpha Gregory Helmick. The family requests there be no public visitation. All services will be private, with arrangements under the direction of the Krynicki Funeral Home, Inc., 1007 Freeport Road, Natrona Heights, Harrison.

Guy Robert Cutright
Guy Robert Cutright, 78, of Sutton, died March 26, 2001, at his home after a short illness. He was born on September 29, 1922, at Coxs Mills, WV. He was retired from the Republic Steel in Massilion, Ohio. He was a United States World War II Army Veteran. He was the son of the late Otice Newt and Elva Gay Rutterford Cutright. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Arden and Eugene; one sister, Wanda Lea Markle. He is survived by his wife, Pauline M. Facemire Cutright; two sons, Otice B. Cutright of Massilion, Ohio, and Gawaine A. Cutright of Sutton; two brothers, Otis Cutright of Glenville, and Donzel Cutright of Indiana; sisters, Regina Hughes of Ohio, Eloise Cosner of Weston, WV, Ava Stepson of Virginia, and Nina Marks of Tennessee. Also surviving are 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Thursday, March 29, 2001, 2 pm, at the Greene-Roberston Funeral Home, with the Rev. William Griffin officiating. Burial was in the Hoover Cemetery, Bug Ridge, near Sutton. Greene-Robertson Funeral Home, Sutton, was serving the Cutright Family.

Winne Gaye Clark
Winne Gaye Clark, 76, of The Willows, died March 13, 2001, at the Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. She was born March 12, 1925, in Sutton, WV, a daughter of the late Charles Morrison and Birdie Cutlip Morrison. She attended John Hopkins and St. Marys Hospital School of Nursing. She was employed for several years in labor and delivery at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. She was a Methodist by faith. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Delbert F. Clark of Parkersburg; two daughters, Nancy I. Amos and husband, Fred of Parkersburg, and Margaret L. Mason of Williamstown; two sisters, Betty Johnson of Sutton and Vivian Mollohan of Weston; seven grandchildren, Christina Amos Herron and husband, Dennis Jr. of Columbus, David F. Amos and wife, Heather of Galloway, Beth Dawkins Farmer and husband, Daniel of Floyd, VA, and Chad Dawkins of Worcester, Mass.; two great-grandchildren, Aaron and Landon Farmer. Services were held at 1 pm at the Sunset Memorial Funeral Home of Parkersburg, with the Rev. John Koerner officiating. Burial followed in the Sunset Memory Gardens.

Jacob Harold Wright, Jr.
Jacob Harold Wright, Jr., 52, of Front Royal, Virginia, died March 26, 2001, in the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Beckley, WV after a short illness. He was born on July 24, 1948. He was a 1967 graduate of Sutton High School, and was a United States Army Veteran. He was employed by Mid Atlantic Pipe Lines in Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob Harold Wright Sr. and Priscilla Irene Woolwine Wright. He is survived by one son, Kenneth Ray Wright of Summersville, WV; three daughters, Tona Jean Wright Edwards of Mt. Nebo, WV, Belinda Call Wright Settle of Virginia Beach, VA, and Elanda Leigh Wright of Scarbro, WV; one brother, Clifton Lee Wright of Culpeper, VA; one sister, Elaine Wolfenbarker of Columbia, SC. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Drew Edwards, and Haleigh Settle. Funeral services were held Friday, March 30, 2001, at 1 pm at the Greene-Robertson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Marvin Hickson officiating. Burial was in the Tinney Cemetery, near Sutton. Greene-Robertson Funeral Home, Sutton, was serving the Wright Family.

M. Joan Miles
M. Joan Miles, 56, of Wooster, went home to be with the Lord Friday evening, March 16, 2001 at her residence after a long illness. Services were at 1 p.m. at West Hill Baptist Church, Wooster, with Pastor Dan Wingate officiating. Burial was at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, Wooster. She was born August 20, 1944 in Sutton, WV to Earl and Gay W. (Tolley) Deal and married Okey E. Miles on October 2, 1964 in Sutton, WV. He survives. She moved to Wayne County from Sutton in 1964 and was employed at the Wooster Brush Co. for 25 years in the shipping department. She retired in 1998. She was a member of the WEst Hill Baptist Church, Wooster. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Timothy O. (Elizabeth A.) Miles of Shreve; grandchildren, Todd, Megan, Alesha and Emily Miles; her mother of Sutton, WV; brothers, Larry, John and Jerry, all of Sutton, WV; sisters, Dolores Berry of Bradenton, FL, Shirley (Ira) Keener of Cleveland, Judy Houghton of Marlington, WV, and Sharen (Olen) Purvis of Myakka, FL; brothers-in-law, Richard and William Miles, both of Shreve, and Chuck (Kathy) Miles of Sarasota, FL; sisters-in-law, Neva (Jack) Rose, and Nancy (Gary) Sprague, both of Wooster; and her mother-in-law, Myrtle Miles of Shreve. In addition to her loving father, an infant brother and sisters-in-law Nina Rose and Naomi Sipple died previously.

Hollas (Tootie) Cayton died May 6, 2001. He is survived by wife, Barbara (nee De Vaughn) and daughter, Roberta Cayton. He was born at Weston, WV and lived many years at Gassaway before moving to Cleveland, Ohio. Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 9 at Sunset Memorial Park, North Olmstead, Ohio.

Ramon Gardiner Moyers
Ramon Gardiner Moyers, 64, of Perkins, died Saturday, May 26, 2001 at his residence following an extended illness. He was born September 30, 1936 in Scott, Braxton County, a son of the late Byron D. and Ruth Burns Moyers. He was a farmer, a mail carrier, and was employed by the Gilmer County Board of Education. He was a member of the Rosedale Baptist Church and the Gilmer County Farm Bureau.He had been married to Joan Gordon since December 16, 1972. He is survived by his wife, Joan Moyers, of Perkins, three children and two children in-law, Frank and Misty (Moyers) Rexroad of Troy, WV, Adam Moyers of Perkins, and Clifton and Heather Moyers of Daniels, WV; one grandchild, Abbygale Rexroad; two brothers, Brooks Moyers of Flatwoods, WV and Melville Moyers of Normantown, WV; four sisters, Joy Bourn of Rosedale, WV, Dixie Moyers of Perkins, WV, Sharon Moyers of Reedy, WV and Barbara Eubank of Jane Lew, WV. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack Scott and Harlan Lee Moyers. Funeral services were at the Rosedale Baptist Church Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at 10:30 a.m., with Elder Larry Fisher officiating. Interment was in the Rosedale Baptist Church Cemetery.

Howard West
Howard West, 83, of Bellaire, Ohio, formerly of Vienna, passed away May 24, 2001, at the Wheeling Hospital. He was born January 29, 1918, in Gassaway, the son of the late Howard T. and Louise Belknap West. Howard worked as a truck driver for several years prior to joining the West Virginia Department of Highways, where he retired. He then worked for Sears for 14 years. He was a member of Mt. Olivet Masonic Lodge 3; Scotish Rite and York Rite; Calvery Commandery; Nemesis Temple; Eastern Star Chapter 14; Bethany White Shrine; Shrine of Jerusalem and Emanuel Baptist Church. He is survived by one son, William H. West and his wife, Elizabeth of Bellaire; one daughter, Rebecca Murrey and her husband, Jerry of Oxford, Michigan; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth West; an one sister, Leola Crocker. Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Emanuel Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Thomas and the Rev. David Carpenter officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery with Masonic Lodge 3.

Hazel L. Moore Bond
Hazel L. Moore Bond, 89, of Big Otter, Clay County, died June 2, 2001 at CAMC General Division, after a short illness. She was a Homemaker and a Protestant. Surviving: son, Bill Young of Chagrin Falls, OH; grandchildren, Abbie Keegan, Troy Young, Cindy Young and Cora Kaluza; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Keegan and Matt Kaluza; and several nieces and nephews. Service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 5, at Richard M. Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway, with Elder Mark Minney officiating. Burial will be in the Moore Cemetery, Servia.

Ida Mae Eagle Davis
Mrs. Ida Mae Eagle Davis, 82, of Concord, North Carolina, formerly of Duck, passed away Sunday, May 27, 2001 at the St. Andrews Living Center. She was born November 1, 1918 at Duck, WV, a daughter of the late Amos and Ersula Eagle. She was a retired office manager for Collins Department Store, and worked for the F.B.I. during World War II. She was a member of the Southside Baptist Church and was a master quilter. Mrs. Davis was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph D. Davis. Surviving: Son, Jack Rule of Concord, NC; sisters, Mrs. Ruby Stanley of Kernersville, NC and Mrs. Ruth Rogers of Stuarts Draft, Virginia; and two grandchildren, Katherine and Kyle Rule of Concord. Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 30 at 11 a.m. at the Wilkinson Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Robert Leonard officiating. Burial followed in the Cabarrus Memorial Gardens.

Curtis Calvin Clayton
Curtis Calvin Clayton, 19, of Frametown, was dead on arrival at Braxton County Memorial Hospital on July 26, 2001, from injuries received in an automobile accident. He was born August 2, 1981, the son of Sheila M. (Shepherd) Clayton and Faron Clayton. He was preceded in death by a twin brother, Travis Clayton, and his maternal grandparents, Edna Boone Shepherd and Robert Junior Shepherd. He is survived by his mother, Sheila M. Clayton of Frametown; father, Faron Clayton of Oregon; two sisters, Erika Clayton Mollohan of Charleston and Shauna Shepherd Scudder of Easton, MD; paternal grandparents, Carl and Myrtle Clayton of Klamath Falls, OR; maternal great-grandmother, Belle Boone of Wilsie, WV; and paternal great-grandmother, Bertha Clayton of Eagle Point, OR. Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 31, 2001 at 7 p.m. at the Richard M. Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.

Edwood "Woodie" Riffe
Elwood 'Woodie' Riffe, 83 of Burnsville, died Saturday, July 28, 2001, in the Braxton county Memorial Hospital at Gassaway, after a long illness. He was born May 5, 1918, in Greenup, KY, a son of the late Earl and Mabyn Oliver Riffe. Mr. Riffe was a carpenter, a 53 year member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge #105, member of Carpenters Union #475 at Clarksburg and member of the Burnsville Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie K. Riffe of June 12, 1995 and is survived by; Mary E. 'Sally' Brown of Burnsville, WV and Ronald R. Dean of Burnsville, sisters; Thelma M. Rigsby of Ashland, KY and Isabelle Smith of Coal Grove, OH and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 1:00pm, Tuesday, July 31, 2001, at the Stockert-Gibson Funeral Home at Flatwoods, WV, with Rev Larry Clifton officiating. Burial will follow in the K. of P. Cemetery at Burnsville. Friends may call from 6pm till 8pm Monday at the Stockert-Gibson Funeral Home, where a I.O.O.F. Lodge service will be held at 7:00pm.

Burton R. Barrett
Burton R. Barrett, 75, of Burnsville, died Thursday, July 26, 2001, in the Meadowbrook Acres Nursing Home in Charleston, after a long illness. He was born January 5, 1926, in Braxton County, the son of the late James T. Barrett and Agnes Tomblin Barrett. He was a Protestant. Surviving sisters, Rosabelle Bush, Shelba Jean Allen both of Burnsville, WV and Elizabeth Snyder of Weston, WV. He was preceded in death by sisters Lovie Eagle and Gladys Alkire. Services will be Monday, July 30, 2001, at 1:00pm at the Stockert-Gibson Funeral Home with Rev. Ronzel Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackburn Cemetery near Sand Fork, WV. Friends may call after 11:30 am, Monday, till service time at 1:00pm.

Alonzo "Buck" Westfall
Alonzo 'Buck' Westfall, 65, of Newville, died Thursday, July 26, 2001, in CAMC-Memorial Division after a short illness. He was born July 25, 1936, at Bonnie, WV, a son of the late Jess Westfall and Dent Gillespie Westfall. He was a construction operator, a former employee of Michael Motor's a farmer and a Methodist by faith. Mr. Westfall is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Lynn (Davis) Westfall whom he married n October 14, 1978; daughter, Lucy Brynn Westfall and son, Cleve Westfall both at home; sisters, Louella Yourich of Wellington, Ohio and Julious Simons of Sutton, WV; brothers, Estle Westfall of Burnsville, Lantie Westfall and Ezra Westfall both of Newville, WV and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers. Services will be held 2:00pm, Sunday, July 29, 2001, at the Stockert-Gibson Funeral Home at Flatwoods, WV with Rev. William 'Bill' Hopkins officiating. Ada P. Browning
Ada P. Browning, 87, of Strange Creek, went home to be with her Lord on October 4, 2001 following an extended illness. She was a homemaker and a member of the Keener's Ridge Community Church. SHe loved her church family and was especially fond of gospel music. She was born May 22, 1914 at Morris, WV, the daughter of the late Henry Owen and Rebecca Mae Murphy. Also preceding her in death were her husband Fred Browning; two sons, Fred Jr. and an infant son; three brothers George Vernon Sr., Lester and Bill; and six sisters Bertha, Virgie, Hazel, Elsie, Lucy and Evelyn. She is survived by a son James M. Browning of Strange Creek, WV; 2 daughters Emma Jean Dixon of Warren, Oh and Karen Hamrick of Birch River, WV; one brother Roy Murphy of Clyde, Oh; one sister Flossie Richardson of Dille, WV; 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Funeral Services were held Sunday, October 7, 2001 at 11:00 am at Keener's Ridge Community Church, Strange Creek with Rev Ray Teets officiating. Burial was in the Walker Cemetery, near Birch River.

Lola Elizabeth Bender-Rader, 88, of Progress Rt, Gassaway was called to be with the Lord on October 11, 2001. She was born September 9, 1913. She was a Methodist by faith. She is survived by her husband, Orlando 'Tink' O. Rader; sons, Orlando 'Shorty' L. Rader of Gassaway, Billie L. Rader of Sutton, Fredrick 'Fred' O. Rader of Gassaway, Ronzal 'Sonny' L Rader of Charleston; six grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; caregiver Donna Nicholson. Services was held 1 pm Saturday, October 13, at Richard M. Roach Funeral Home in Gassaway with Rev William E. Griffin officiating. Burial will be in Bealls Mills Cemetery Gassaway. She was preceded in death by son, Robert E. and daughter Carolyn L. She will be sadly missed by her loving family and friends.

Gary Richard Barker, 46, of Cleveland, Ohio, passed away Thursday, October11, 2001 at University Hospital at Cleveland, Ohio, after a short illness. HE was born August 31, 1955 at Sutton,WV a son of the late Granvel R. Barker and Joan Dodrill Barker. He was a machinist for Linderme Lube Co. in Euclid, OH, a Marine Veteran and a Protestant. He is survived by 1 daughter, Julie Coates of Strongeville,OH, two sons, Gary Richard Barker II of Strongeville, OH, Anthony David Barker of Strongeville, OH, Stepmother, Kathleen Darker of Cleveland, OH, 2 brothers, Dennis Barker and Wayne Barker both of Cleveland, OH, 2 grandchildren, Kayla and Abby. He was preceded in death by 1 sister Jewell Barker. Funeral services were held Monday, October 15, 2001 at 11:00 am at the Stockert-Gibson Funeral Home, Flatwoods. With Rev. John McQuain officiating burial followed in the Kniceley McCray Cemetery, Corley, WV.

Clara J. Warner
Clara J. Warner, 69, of Sutton, died October 11, 2001 in CAMC Memorial Division. She was a Homemaker, a member of the First Baptist Temple, Chapel; a member of the Braxton County Senior CItizens. Surviving; sons, Guy Warner Jr. and his wife Marilyn of Gassaway, James Warner and his fiance Tammy Rose of Chapel; daughters Beckey Greathouse and her fiance John Watson of Fairmont, Debbie Alderman and her husband William of Gassaway, Lisa Lambey and her husband Danny of Sutton with whom she made her home. sister, Mabel Gentry of Griffithville, WV; 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Service was held October 14 at Richard Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway with pastor Randy Woods officiating. Burial was in the Sugar Creek Cemetery, Gassaway.

Flora Belle Chamberlain
Flora Belle Chamberlain, 79, of Gassaway, passed away October 12, 2001, in Summersville Memorial Hospital, after a short illness. She was born Feb. 27, 1922 a daughter of the late Elva and Virgie Given. She was the cafeteria manager at Davis Elementary and a member of Sugar Creek Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by husband Orban Dolin Chamberlain and brother, Kenneth R.Given. Surviving are sons, Orban Dale Chamberlain of Sutton, and Eugene Chamberlain of Lake Mary, FL; brother Eugene Given of Marion, OH; four grandchildren. Service was at 1 pm Monday October 15, at Richard Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway, with Pastor Jeff Hannah officiating. Burial was in the Sugar Creek Cemetery, Gassaway. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to American Lung Association, PO Box 1391, Charleston WV 25325-1391.

Lola A. Harrouff
Lola A. Harrouff, 90, of Birch River died October 9, 2001 in Summersville Memorial Hospital after a short illness. She was a homemaker and a member of the Birch River Baptist Church. She was born in Nicholas County March 10, 1901 the daughter of the late Luke and May Davis. Also preceding her in death was her husband Denzil B. Harrouff; and one grandson. She is survived by one daughter Wanetia Butcher of Birch River, WV; four grandchildren and one great granddaughter. Funeral services were held Saturday, October 13, 2001 at 1:00 pm at Greene-Robertson Funeral Home in Sutton, WV with Rev Rob Worlledge officiating. Burial was in Birch River Cemetery, Birch River, WV.

Jerry Ransom Adair
Jerry Ransom Adair, 62, of Flatwoods, WV, died October 12, 2001, in the Louis A. Johnson Veteran's Medical Center, Clarksburg, WV after a long illness. He was born on March 28, 1939 in Huntington, WV. He was a truck driver and retired from the United States Navy. He was the son of the late Ransom and Veria Belcher Adair. He is survived by his companion, Sue Lawson of Flatwoods, WV; and one son, Jerry Michael Adair of Parkersburg, WV. Also close to Jerry's heart were Thomas R. Whitt, Raymond Whitt, Jr., Christine Whitt, and Joseph Whitt, all of Michigan; Michael Allen Whitt, Richard Leagon, and Michelle Whitt, all of Burnsville, WV; Glenn J. Whitt, Alisha Marie Lawson, and Jody Ransom Lawson, all of Flatwoods, WV. Services were held Tuesday, October 16, 2001 at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of Peace, at the Sunset Memory Gardens in Parkersburg, WV with Pastor Herbert Morgan officiating. Greene-Robertson Funeral Home served the Adair family.

Henry G. 'Bal' Conrad, 79, of Orlando, WV, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2002 at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital, Weston, WV after a long illness. He was born May 9, 1923 at Orlando, WV. A son of the late French and Rachel Blake Conrad. He was a former employee of Weston State Hospital and a World War II Army Veteran. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline M. Conrad on July 8, 1999. Survivors include: 1 daughter, Patty S. Bragg and husband, Jerry of Orlando, WV; 2 sisters, Pauline Richardson of Flatwoods, WV and Gay Riffle of Burnsville, WV; 2 brothers, Freeman Conrad of Napier, WV and Wilford Conrad of New Cumberland, PA; 3 grandchildren, Sheila Butler of Heaters, WV and Wanda Bender and Danielle Bragg of Orlando, WV. 4 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2002 at the Stockert- Gibson Funeral Home, Flatwoods, WV with Rev. Earl Cayton officiating. Burial was in the K of P Cemetery Burnsville, WV.

Maggie Marie Carpenter Jarvis, 77 of Strange Creek, went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, May 29, 2002. She was a Methodist. She was born September 16, 1924. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Woodrow Jarvis and one daughter, Shirley Kay. She is survived by two sons, Bobby Jarvis and Jim Jarvis both of Strange Creek; four daughters, Charlotte Hyer of Charlotte,NC, Linda Robinson of Strange Creek, Mary Halstead of Foster, WV and Amy Jarvis of Strange Creek; two sisters, Esta Moss of Richmond, VA an Audella Jacobs Pembroke of North Carolina; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2002 at Richard M. Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway with Rev. Roger Dunlap officiating. Burial was in the Jarvis Cemetery, Strange Creek.

Ian Crist McCracken
Ian Crist McCracken, 29, of Sandusky, Ohio, died suddenly on July 17, 2002 at his residence. He was born April 14, 1973, in Sandusky, Ohio, the son of Thomas P. McCracken of Sandusky, Ohio and Glenna G. Metheney of Sutton, WV. He was disabled, a Protestant and an avid woodworker. Surviving him in addition to his parents are his sister, Daevona R. Kinder of Newton, WV; his maternal grandfather, Gerald Metheney of Elmira, WV and his paternal grandmother, Dorothy McCracken of Duck, WV. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 20 at 1:00 p.m. at the Richard M. Roach Funeral Home in Gassaway, WV with the Rev. Daris Arnold officiating. Burial was in the McCracken Cemetery at O'Brien in Clay County. Richard M. Roach Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
