David E. Johnson RONCEVERTE -- David E. Johnson, 95, of Ronceverte, Greenbrier County, died Aug. 9, 2000, in Greenbrier Manor Nursing Home after a long illness. He was a member and former Sunday school teacher at Trinity United Methodist Church, Ronceverte, a retired agent from Prudential Insurance and a memberof the IOOF and the Rebekah Lodge.
Surviving: wife Nellie Whanger Johnson; sons, David "Eddie" Jr. of Renick, Harold of Richmond, Va., Ronald of Cleveland, Texas; sister, Bessie Burgess of Hinton; brothers, Woodrow of Washington, Mellis of Connecticut, Henry of Greenville; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Ruth A. Johnson Ruth A. Keadle Johnson, 74, of St. Albans died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000, in Thomas Memorial Hospital after a short illness. Snodgrass Funeral Home, South Charleston, is in charge of arrangements.

Kathryn S. McCoy Kathryn Sybil McCoy, 74, of Handley, Kanawha County, died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000, in Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland, Md., after suffering a stroke. She was a native of Matewan and was owner/operator of McCoys Restaurant. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Montgomery, and was a UMW organizer.
Surviving: daughters, Mary Falbo of Mongtomery, Rita Haverty of Canaan Valley, half-brother, Charles Gabbard of Hansford; 12 grandchildren; 12 great- grandchildren. Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Cath-olic Church with the Rev. Paul Wharton officiating. Burial will be in Kanawha Valley Memorial Garden, Glasgow. Jake Sizemore LIZEMORES -- Jake Sizemore, 80, of Lizemores, Clay County, died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000, at home after a long illness. Pennington Funeral Home, Gauley Bridge, is in charge of arrangements.

Helen K. Spencer GASTON, S.C. -- Helen Keene Spencer, 76, of Gaston, formerly of Frankford, Greenbrier County, W.Va., died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000. She retired from the Frankford Store and was a member of Enon Baptist Church.
Surviving: daughter, Irene Kay Jordon of Gaston; son, David of Gaston; sister, Mary Combs of St. Albans, W.Va.; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Morgan Funeral Home, Lewisburg, W.Va., with the Rev. Todd Spencer officiating. Burial will be in Wesley Chapel Cemetery. Earl V. Turley Earl V. Turley, 87, of South Charleston died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000, in SunBridge Nursing Center, Dunbar, after a long illness. He was a former employee of Snodgrass Funeral Home, retired from the maintenance department of Union Carbide and was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, South Charleston. He was preceded in death by wife, Ruth Turley and son, Ralph E. Turley.

Viola S. Tyree Viola Southall Tyree, 67, of Charleston died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000, at home after a short illness. She retired from AT&T, Charleston, and attended Bible Center Church.

Herbert Bays Herbert Bays, 98, of South Charleston died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000, in Teays Valley Nursing Center after a long illness. He was a retired automobile mechanic and a lifelong resident of South Charleston

Mary D. Farnham Mary Davis Farnham, 81, of Charleston died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000, in CAMC Memorial Division, after a short illness. She was a medical secretary and librarian at CAMC General Division, and was a Protestant. She was a 58-year resident of Charleston, a graduate of Mount Hope High School and attended Concord College, Athens.
Surviving: sister, Elise Davis Simmers of Oak Hill; several nieces and nephews. Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Highlawn Memorial Gardens, Oak Hill, with the Rev. Talmage Davis officiating. Barlow-Bonsall Funeral Home, Charleston, is in charge of arrangements.

Roy M. Gipson WINONA -- Roy Mason "Cotton" Gipson, 78, of Winona, Fayette County, died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000, at home after a short illness. He was a retired miner, a member of Keeneys Creek Baptist Church and a lifelong resident of Winona.
Surviving: daughter, Karen Anderson of Oak Hill; sister, Alice Woods of Wilton Manners, Fla.; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. Richard K. Keiffer CRAIGSVILLE -- Richard K. Keiffer, 47, of Craigsville, Nicholas County, died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000, in Summersville Memorial Hospital after a long illness. He attended Beaver Freewill Baptist Church, Craigsville, and was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a miner with Vandalia Resources, Charleston.

William H. Mitchell Jr. ONA -- William H. Mitchell Jr., 67, of Ona, Cabell County, died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000, in St. Mary's Hospital, Huntington, after a short illness. He was a retired state trooper and an Air Force veteran. He was a member of Midway Church of Christ, Hurricane, the Masonic Lodge of Barboursville, and the Fraternal Order of Police.

Tammy M. Priddy BUFFALO -- Tammy M. Sayre Priddy, 27, of Buffalo died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000, from injuries received in an automobile accident. She was a painter for the Can and Sline Construction Co. and a member of Painters Union Local #970, Charleston.

Florice D. Roberts PARKERSBURG -- Florice Daphne Roberts, 83, of Parkersburg, formerly of Madison, died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, in Riverside Nursing Home, St. Albans, after a long illness. She was a retired supervisor from the West Virginia State Department of Employment Security with 36 years of service and a member of Fairlawn Baptist Church, Parkersburg.

William S. Rosenik COLUMBUS, Ohio -- William S. Rosenik, 92, of Columbus died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000, in Whetstone Care Center, Columbus. He was a longtime resident of Putnam County, W.Va., and held both an undergraduate and masters degree from West Virginia University. He was retired with 42 years of service from the Putnam County Board of Education. He was a member of theWest Virginia Education Association, the National Education Association, State Principal's Association, National Principal's Association, and served as president of the Putnam County Education Association and Putnam County Principal's Association. He served as trustee of the West Virginia Secondary Schools' Activities Commission and was a member of Presbyterian Church of the Covenant, Hurricane.
Surviving: son, Charles; daughter, Sallie Mitchell; two grandchildren; one niece. Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane. Burial will be in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane. Friends may call one hour prior to service Sunday at the funeral home.

Richard J. Stanton LEWISBURG -- Richard Joseph Stanton, 81, of Lewisburg died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000, in Greenbrier Valley Medical Center. He was a Navy veteran and was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II.
Surviving: wife, Betty Farley Stanton; daughter, Laurel Welch; son, Teddy Farley of Lewisburg; two grandchildren. Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Morgan Funeral Home, Lewisburg.

Effie L. Sturgeon POCA -- Effie L. Sturgeon, 84, of Poca, died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000, in Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston. She was a native of Marion County, formerly of Burton and Metz, and a 50-year resident of Putnam County. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Teays Valley.

She was a homemaker, foster parent and a former member of Elkview Baptist Church. She was a Red Cross Volunteer, Charleston, W.Va., and was a member of Edgewater Baptist Church, Edgewater, Fla.

Franz Varney HUNTINGTON -- Franz McCormick Varney, 67, of Huntington died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000, in Cabell-Huntington Hospital. She was a retired schoolteacher with 24 years of service in Kanawha and Cabell counties and was a graduate of Morris Harvey College and West Virginia University.
