Guy G. Givens, 75, of Charleston died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, after a long illness. He was former president of Capitol City Industrial Supply Co. and a former employee of the state Alcohol Beverage Control Commission and Shawnee Hills Substance Abuse Program. He was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Charleston and Masonic Lodge 20, past president of the Kanawha Valley Fellowship Home and a Marine Corps veteran of World War II. Surviving: wife, Janie Bonnesen Givens; daughters, Sharon Sheridan and Margaret Miller of Williamstown; grandchildren, Cathy Spindler and Anne Sheridan of Columbus, Ohio, Eric Miller of Alexandria, Va., Jeff Miller of Morgantown. Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Luke's Episcopal Church with the Rev. David Green officiating. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. TROTWOOD, Ohio -- Hazel R. Erskine Goines, 79, of Trotwood, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, in Good Samaritan Hospital, Dayton, Ohio. She was a native of Charleston, W.Va., and a retired computer systems analyst with Data Systems Automation Office, Columbus, Ohio, with 20 years of service. She was a member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church, Zanesville, Ohio. Surviving: daughters, Carol Y. Thomas and Glenda S. Brunson of Dayton; stepsons, John S. Goines Jr. of Dayton, Gregory E. Goines of Hot Springs, Ark., Charles L. Goines of Zanesville; stepdaughters, Diana S. Goines of Washington State, Esther G. Goines of Zanesville; brother Robert Walker of Detroit, Mich., sister, Louise W. Birdsong of Dayton; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren, 14 step-grandchildren; 5 step-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. James E. Hairston, 78, of Charleston died Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, in Atlanta after a long illness. He was a retired machinist from Marathon Coal and a member of Community Missionary Baptist Church, Charleston. Surviving: daughter, Connie Tyson of Atlanta; sons, Curtis "C.W.," James "Choo- Choo" and Marvin of Charleston; seven grandchildren. Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Charleston, with the Rev. Ricardo Flippin and the Rev. William Jackson officiating. John M. "Ham Bone" Hamilton Sr., 66, of Nitro, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, in Thomas Memorial Hospital, after a short illness. He was a 20-year resident of Nitro, formerly of Cedar Grove. He was a former Iron Worker, a veteran of the Korean War, a member of Iron Workers Local 301, Charleston, and a protestant. Surviving: wife, Mary "Mickey" Spangler-Hamilton of Nitro; sons, John M. Hamilton Jr. of Nitro, Joseph M. Hamilton of Titusville, Fla., Jeffrey M. Hamilton of St. Albans; brother, Jennings W. Hamilton of Hurricane; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. There will be a memorial service held at a later date. Starlet Delight Kerns, 50, of Cabin Creek died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, in Charleston after a short illness. She was a medical accountant for the state Department of Workers Compensation and a lifelong resident of Cabin Creek. COLFAX, N.C. -- Howard Kenneth Martin, 69, of Colfax died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, in the Moses H. Cone Hospital. He was a native of Glasgow, W.Va., and was executive director of High Point Housing Authority. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of HIS Family Church. Surviving: wife, Dorothy Martin; daughters, Vickie Martin at home, Tamara Martin-Causey of Rochester, N.Y.; two grandchildren. Robert R. Cobb
SUMMERSVILLE -- Robert R. Cobb, 34, of Summersville was found dead Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, near Summersville. Chief Ray Moore of the Summersville city police said Cobb disappeared about a month ago and was found by hunters in an abandoned strip mine outside the city limits off W.Va. 39. Cobb's body has been taken to the medical examiner's office and the death remains under investigation. He was a member of the Church of Christ, Craigsville. Surviving: mother, Betty Hodges Cobb of Tioga; brothers, James of Snowshoe, Howard of Tioga, David of Akron, Ohio; sisters, Linda Blake and Darlene Elliott of Craigsville, Misty Keener of Akron, Ohio. Graveside funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Delphi Church Cemetery, Tioga with the Rev. Bob Friends officiating. Burial will follow in the cemetery. There will be no visitation. Nicholas J. DeMarco, 84, of Charleston died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, in St. Francis Hospital after a short illness. He retired in 1983 and was a member of St. Anthony Church, and VFW Post 3466. He was formerly of Chicago, Ill., and was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a part-time usher at the Charleston Civic Center. Surviving: wife, Betty DeMarco of Charleston; daughter, Cathy Wood of Roanoke, Va.; son, Nicholas "Corky" Demarco of Charleston; sister, Ann Murnick of Arlington Heights, Ill; three grandchildren. Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Father Richard Zelik officiating. There will be no visitation.
