RICHWOOD -- Harry E. Russell, 84, of Richwood, Nicholas County, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, in the Richwood Community Hospital. He attended Hinkle Mountain United Methodist Church, Richwood and was a retired employee of Rockwall International, Newton Falls, Ohio, with 26 years of service. He was an Army veteran of World War II and was a former member of the UMWA. Surviving: wife, Paula Wolford Russell; son, Joseph Russell of Revenna, Ohio; foster-sons, Gary Wolford of Atwater, Ohio, Charlie Wolford of Gilbert, Ariz.; several nieces and nephews. Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday in the Hinkle Mountain United Methodist Church, Richwood with the Rev. Royce Simpson and the Rev. Melissa Simpson officiating. Otto K. Schultz Jr.
Otto Kurt Schultz Jr., 78, of St. Albans died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, in the VA Medical Center, Huntington, after a long illness. He was retired from Union Carbide Corporation after 34 years of service, was a member of York Rite Bodies of Charleston, Washington Lodge 58 AF & AM, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry of Charleston, Ramp Patrol, Executive Board of Buckskin Council BSA, National Jamboree Staff of 1993, Unit Commissioner of Pioneer District. He was an Army veteran of World War II, served with the 551st Parachute Infantry Battalion and participated in the Battle of the Bulge. He was past chairman of the West Virginia All Airborne Chapter 82nd Division Association and a lifetime member of the NRA. He was also a member of the American Legion, the VFW and St. Peter's United Methodist Church, St. Albans. Surviving: daughters, Karen Richmond of St. Albans, Penny Dickerson of Seaford, Del.; son, Robert "Bobby" Schultz of Cincinnati, Ohio; six grandchildren. Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Cunningham Memorial Park Upper Mausoleum Chapel, St. Albans with the Rev. Steven Rhodes officiating. Entombment will be in Cunningham Memorial Park with military rites conducted by St. Albans American Legion Post No. 73 and VFW Post No. 6418. There will be no visitation. DAYTON, Ohio -- William Edward "Ed" Stover, 72, of Dayton, Ohio, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, after a short illness. He was a retired sheet metal worker from Dayton Manufacturing. He also served in the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War. Francis B. Vaughan
DAMARISCOTTA, Me. -- Francis Boyd Vaughan, 89, of Damariscotta, formerly of Charleston, died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, at Cove's Edge Nursing Home. He graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1933 and began doing high-pressure research for DuPont chemical corporation. Five years later he moved to the Belle Plant, where he became superintendent of the Acid Division. In 1942, Dupont loaned him as research associate to the Metlab of the University of Chicago working for the Manhattan Project. In 1943 he was superintendent of the plutonium separation pilot plant, Oak Ridge, Tenn. He then served at Hansford Engineer Works, becoming superintendent of the Plutonium Separation Division. From 1946 until retirement in 1973 he held management positions in research in several departments of Dupont, ending on the staff of the Development Department. Surviving: wife, Anne Tucker Payne; daughters, Anne Tucker Stewart of Louisville, Ky. Josephine F. Vaughn of South Bristol, Frances Abney Gass of Washington; four grandchildren. PEACH CREEK - Ernestine Dingess Beckett, 89, of Peach Creek died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at the home of a granddaughter in Culloden. She was a homemaker and a member of Crooked Creek Church of Christ. Surviving: daughters, Lois Browning of Zolfo Springs, Fla., Jessica Norman of Crooked Creek, Mary Baker of Chapmanville; sister, Phyllis Maynard of Beaver, Ohio; 15 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren. Rita L. Clay, 76, of Campbells Creek, died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, in CAMC Memorial Hospital following a long illness. She was a member of Big Bottom Missionary Baptist Church, the Gladys Dunlap Ladies Circle at the church, and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Clay, and a son, Charles Homer Clay. Surviving: daughters, Sue Lyle of Circleville, Ohio, Nancy Robertson of Clendenin, Patricia Ann MeKosh of Warrington, Pa.; sons, Carl Richard "Dickie" Clay Sr. of Campbells Creek, the Rev. FREDERICK, Md. -- Clyde Detamore, 58, of Frederick, formerly of Clendenin, W.Va., died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, in Johns Hopkins Medical Center, Baltimore, after a long illness. He was a retired crane operator and a Navy veteran. Surviving: daughter, Sunday Jean Detamore of Morocco, Ind.; brother, Paul of Sissonville, W.Va.; sisters, Bonnie Welch of Pinch, W.Va., Dorothy Woods of Campbells Creek, W.Va., Ruby Scraggs of Charleston, W.Va. He was a retired miner from Cedar Coal Co., a Baptist and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church, Charleston, where he served as a former trustee and Sunday school teacher. He was a Teamster, an Army veteran of World War II and a native of Clarksburg. Surviving: son, Charles H.
