HACKER VALLEY - Lena Malcomb, 96, of Hacker Valley died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002, in Webster Continuous Care, Cowen, following a long illness. She was born Jan. 2, 1906, in Hacker Valley. She was a retired elementary school teacher and principal, who had served for 33 years in Hacker Valley. She was a member of Eastern Star, Rock Cave; Rebekah Lodge, Hacker Valley; and the Retired Teachers Association. She was a graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan College and attended the Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Malcomb; father and mother, Jacob and Anna Heller Klee; sisters, Elsie Burky and Ida Echard; and brother, John William Klee. Survivors include her sisters, Rosa Klee Eye and Thelma Lee, both of Smithville, Ohio; brothers, Karl Norman Klee and Jacob Emil Klee, both of Webster Springs. Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home, Webster Springs. Burial will be in Cutlip Cemetery, Hacker Valley. MARMET - Elizabeth Penix Mullins, 90, of Marmet died Nov. 15, 2002, in Marmet Health Care Center after a long illness. She was a retired school teacher from Marmet Elementary with 38 years of service, and was a member of Marmet First Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, Hillary Stanford Mullins of Marmet; brother, Fred Penix of Aiken, S.C.; and a number of nieces and nephews. Larry Joe Paris
DANVILLE - Larry Joe Paris, 51, of Danville died Nov. 14, 2002, in Boone Memorial Hospital after a short illness. Larry was born March 3, 1951, to Anderson and Meda Toney Paris. He was a loader operator for Hobet Mining and was a member of UMW. He is survived by his wife, Linda Francine Paris; one son, Larry Joe Paris II at home; two daughters, Joie Porter of Hamlin and Dee Dee Paris of Van; two grandchildren, Ashely Nicole Porter and Ethan Micheal Porter; three brothers, Charles and Johnny of Big Ugly and Herman Toney of Big Creek. David Ryan Pittman
SHERMAN - David Ryan Pittman, 54, of Sherman, W.Va. died Nov. 14, 2002, in Sherman. He was born Feb. 7, 1948, in Charleston, a son of George Ryan and Laura Fitzwater Pittman. He was a machine operator with Ravenswood Polymer and a Vietnam-era veteran of the U.S. Air Force. David was a member of the Ravenswood Church of the Nazarene. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association. He also worked at O. Ames in Parkersburg, W.Va. Surviving are his wife of 33 years, Sandy Adams Pittman of Sherman; mother, Laura Pittman of Ripley; children, Lori Eshenaur and her husband, Dr. Steven of Kenna, W.Va., Cindy Dunlap and her husband, Cameron of Ravenswood, and Lisa Casdorph and her husband, Craig of Charleston; six grandchildren, Victor and Miciah Eshenaur, Ethan and Evan Dunlap, and Corey and David Casdorph; brother, Gary Pittman and his wife, Shirley of Charleston; several nieces and nephews; a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his father. Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, at Ravenswood Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Scott Mapes officiating. Burial will be in Ravenswood Cemetery. Geraldine "Gerry" Raynes
POCA - Geraldine "Gerry" Raynes, 65, of Poca died Nov. 13, 2002, in CAMC General Hospital, Charleston. Gerry was retired from Diehl's Restaurant, Nitro with 37 years of service and attended Mount Union United Methodist Church, Pliny. She was born May 20, 1937, in Pliny, a daughter of the late Huber and Evelyn Bowcott Wears and was a 25 years resident of Poca. She graduated from Point Pleasant High School and was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Mac Raynes; and sisters, Pansy Wears and Audry Young. Surviving are daughters, Carla Gale Stewart of Hurricane; sons, Brent Allen Raynes of Poca, Todd Eric Raynes of Nitro; sisters, Jewell Scites and Fern O'Neil, both of Point Pleasant, Freda Rawlings of Pensacola, Fla., Irene Sanders and Doris Boster, both of Nitro, Nina Wright of Winfield; brothers, Weldon Wears and Jack Wears, both of Pliny; grandchildren, Erica Nicole Stewart and Kobe Nicholas Stewart. CROSS LANES - Hayverd R. Skeens, 56, of Cross Lanes passed away Nov. 15, 2002, at his home after a long illness. He was owner and operator of Skeens Stone. Anna Catherine Johnson Allen Smith, 71, of St. Albans went home to be with the Lord, Nov. 10, 2002, in Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston, W.Va., after a long illness. She was born May 24, 1931, in St. Albans, W.Va., to the late Press and Mozell Washington Johnson. She was a member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, St. Albans, W.Va., and a 1949 graduate of Garnet High School. She was formerly employed at Americare (Sunbridge of Dunbar), Dunbar, W.Va., and was a retiree of Valley Health Center, South Charleston, W.Va. Surviving are daughters, Jennifer King and her husband, Theodore Jr. and Cheryl Allen and her companion, Reginald Jackson Sr. of St. Albans, Tina Ballard and her husband, Bruce, of Union, W.Va., and Claudia Walton and her husband, John of South Charleston; sons, Ronald W. MAYSEL - Deloris Maxine Spencer, 75, of Maysel went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002, at CAMC General Division. She was born on March 8, 1927, in Shelton, to the late Norris White and Narda Walker White. She was a homemaker, a born-again Christian, a charter member of the Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, and a member of the Eastern Star and the Ladies Auxiliary. She was preceded in her homegoing by her husband, Chester Spencer. Survivors include her son, and daughter-in-law, Michael and Joyce Spencer of Poca; daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Michael Scott of Maysel; grandchildren, Michael Jr. and Kelley Spencer of Cross Lanes, Christina and Brandon James of Cross Lanes, and Heather, Johathan and Shannon Scott of Maysel; great-grandchildren, Marcus Hartwell, Cierra Dawn James and Mallory Deloris James; brother, Leo White of Scott Depot. Born June 12, 1909, in Clifton Forge, Va., she was a daughter of the late George E. Nicely. Mrs. Brackenrich was a member of the Church of God in Rupert, member of the Greenbrier Valley Senior Friends, former US mail carrier and was a homemaker. She is survived by daughters, Sallie Frances Brown of Rupoert, Nova Rutherford and husband, Kenny, of Virginia, Hilda Childs and companion, Cleo Clendenin, of White Sulphur Springs; sons, Lemuel Brackenrich and wife, Velma, of Vago Road, Frankford, George S. Aubrey E. "Fub" Browder, 89, of St. Albans died Dec. 2, 2002, in Vineyard's Personal Care Home, St. Albans. He was retired from Union Carbide Corp., South Charleston Plant, with 41 years' service, and was a member of Highlawn Baptist Church, St. Albans. He was a lifelong resident of St. Albans. He was preceded in death by his son, Jerry Douglas Browder. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Irene Browder; daughter, Gretta Santo of Jupiter, Calif.; son, John A. J. McKinley Holliday
BELLBROOK, Ohio - J. McKinley Holliday, 87, of Bellbrook, Ohio, formerly of Nicholas County, W.Va., went to be with the Lord, Monday, Dec. 2, 2002. He spent the last few years at the Oak Creek Terrace Nursing Home, Kettering, Ohio, prior to a short hospital stay. Born June 24, 1915, in Beauty, W.Va., he was a son of the late Jacob Flora and Sarah "Sally" Ida McClelland Holiday. Pastor Holliday was saved on May 2, 1932, and was called to the ministry and licensed on Sept. 14, 1932 and ordained on March 27, 1942. He was instrumental in helping to organize 31 churches in West Virginia and Ohio. He pastored nine churches over a period of 54 years before retiring in 1996. He helped lead in the purchase and organization of Mountain State Christian Schools in Alderson, W.Va., and served as its Chairman of the Board of Directors from 1953 to 1996. He also served on the Board of Directors of Baptist Faith Missions for 15 years. He was an author who published several books, namely, "The Baptist Heritage," "Sitting and Clothed in His Right Mind," and "Modernism, Its Origin, Its Purpose, Its Destiny." He was a noted speaker on Baptist history and the Tabernacle, and also the Headmaster and teacher of Mountain State Bible Institute and Headmaster of Mount Gilead Day School. For over 40 years he ministered through "The Sunrise Service," a weekly Sunday morning radio broadcast. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Homer Vaughn Holliday, Harry Volmer Holliday and Theodore Jennings Holliday; sisters, Eva Grace Skaggs, Ivaloo Frances Hoke and Willie Opal Tully. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Grace Ann McClung Holliday; daughters, Grace Annette Holliday of Bellbrook, Ohio, Barbara June Holliday Blake of Lexington, Ky.; son, Jack McKinley Holliday of Bellbrook; sisters, Cora Blanche Holliday Darlington of Clio, Mich., Ida June Holliday Waggoner of Wichita Falls, Texas; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. Service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at Glade Creek Baptist Church with Pastor Jim Rader and Pastor Jim Martin officiating. Burial will be in Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville.
