Lovell McKinley Webb
Lovell McKinley Webb, 60, of Charleston, formerly of Gordon, departed this life April 7, 2003, after a long and brave fight with cancer. He was the son of Maycel Webb and the late Bobbie Webb of Gordon. Lovell graduated from Van High School in 1961 and attended the Elkins Institute of Technology, Chicago, graduating as a first class engineer. He worked as a radio announcer for WKAZ Radio, Charleston, for 17 years. Lovell was a Ham Radio operator (N8KAZ) since he was a teenager, serving as president of the Kanawha Amateur Radio Club for two terms. Lovell had a love for radio and had made many great friends whom he dearly loved. Lovell leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Jacquelin Rickman Webb, formerly of Dorothy; and their family of pets, which were his close companions and which he called "The Zoo;" brothers and sisters-in-law, Daniel R. and Judy Webb of Gordon, Jackson and Brenda Webb of Wharton, Johnson and Brenda Webb of Ypsilanti, Mich.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Judith and Earl Gunnoe and Nona and David Wilcox, all of Gordon; brother- and sister-in-law, Don and Nita Perry of Campbells Creek; sister-in-law, Peggy Rickman of Katy, Texas; brothers-in-law, Dink Rickman of Speonk, N.Y., Buck Rickman of Toledo, Ohio; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 10, at Handley Funeral Home, Danville, with the Rev. Philip Rowe officiating. Interment will be in Memory Gardens, Madison, although the most important burial was on the 28th day of September 1953, in obedience to the command and in imitation of the example of our Lord Jesus Christ, Lovell McKinley Webb was buried with Him in baptism at Van by his grandfather, the Rev. Lorah L. Wooldridge
ANSTED - Lorah L. Wooldridge, 60, of Ansted passed away April 6, 2003, in Montgomery General Hospital following a long illness. Born Dec. 16, 1942, in Ansted, he was a son of Mary Newman Wooldridge of Ansted and the late Orange D. Wooldridge. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Carson; and a brother, Kenneth Wooldridge. She was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his mother, he is survived by one sister, Phyllis Overacker of Washington; six brothers, Calvin Wooldridge of Fayetteville, Jack and Dorsey Wooldridge, both of Ansted, Larry Wooldridge of North Carolina, Danny Wooldridge of Florida, Bobby Wooldridge of Chicago, Ill. Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 10, 2003, at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home, Ansted, with the Rev. Harry Fuller officiating. Burial will follow in Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville. Joseph A. Ayoob
CLARKSBURG - Joseph A. Ayoob, 73, of Clarksburg died May 30, 2003 at his residence under the care of Hospice. He was born April 5, 1930 at St. Mary's Hospital in Clarksburg, son of the late Nemar Ayoob and Mary Herrick Ayoob. Preceding him in death are three brothers, John and Tom Ayoob of Clarksburg and George Ayoob of Michigan; seven sisters, Ann Ayoob, Julia Salfia, Emily Poe, Thelma Boldyga, all of Clarksburg, and Rose Herrick, Adele Herrick and Louise Marshall, all of Michigan. Mr. Ayoob worked at Eagle Convec Glass Co. for 46 years and served as president of their local union. He was also a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, a veteran of the United States Marines stationed in Cuba, and a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Clarksburg. Mr. Ayoob was a graduate of R&W High School. Surviving is his wife of 46 years, Victoria Caroli Ayoob at home. Other survivors include one son, Perry J. Ayoob and wife, Mary Jane of Charleston; two daughters, Trina Jo McKiernan and husband Dan of Parkersburg, and Cathy A. Ayoob of Glen Burnie, Md.; five grandchildren, Jared and Lauren McKiernan of Parkersburg, and Zachary, Alexander, and Matthew Ayoob of Charleston; one sister, Elizabeth Ayoob of Charleston. A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, June 3, at 10 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Timothy Grassi as the celebrant. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives at the Barolo funeral home, downtown Clarksburg, on Sunday, June 1, from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Monday, June 2, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations to be made to People's Hospice or the Immaculate Conception Church Building Fund.

Phyllis Carney
Phyllis "Jean" Carney, 78, of Charleston died May 31, 2003 in Hubbard Hospice House after an extended illness. She was retired with 24 years of service with the West Virginia State Treasurer's office, a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and a lifelong resident of Charleston. Survivors include one niece, Dottie Hess of Charleston; three nephews, Reaford Walker of Elkview, Richard Walker of Charleston and Scott Walker of Charleston; three great nieces; three great nephews and many cousins. A Liturgy of Christian Burial Service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2003 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with Father Leon Alexander officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home where a Vigil Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Hubbard Hospice House for their loving care and many acts of kindness. Wilda F. Casto, 88, of Charleston went home to be with the Lord May 31, 2003, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Jo Ann and Estel Gross, in Charleston after a short illness. Wilda was born on October 20, 1914 to the late Monroe and Cora Winter of Statts Mill, W.Va. Wilda was a native of Jackson county but had lived in Charleston for 60 years. She was the owner of Jack's Restaurant and a Christian. Additional survivors are a granddaughter and her husband, Barbara and Steve Clendenin; great grandson, Jamie Clendenin; great-granddaughters and husbands, Kimberly and Allen Poe and Kellie and Jon Goffaux; three great great granddaughters, Ashley Bird, Lindsey Poe and Briana Morgan Poe. Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, at Bartlett-Burdette-Cox Funeral Home with Rev. John Jicka officiating. Entombment will be at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes, W.Va. A gathering of family and friends will be on Monday, June 2, 2003 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bartlett-Burdette-Cox Funeral Home. Rev. Charles E., Norma Lee Jividen, and Mary Lynn Curtiss
BUFFALO - Rev. Charles Eugene "Gene" Curtiss, 76, Norma Lee Jividen Curtiss, 72, and Mary Lynn Curtiss, 51, of Buffalo died May 30, 2003 from injuries sustained in a car accident in Charleston. Rev. Curtiss was a retired welder for the Monsanto Company, Nitro, with 33 years of service. He attended the Buffalo Church of God and was Church of God Pastor, having served churches in the communities of Hurricane, West Albans, Clendenin and Charleston. He was a member of the W.Va. Church of God Ministerial Association. He was a proud WWII veteran of the U.S. Army. He is preceded in death by a brother, Dale F. Curtiss. Norma Lee was a homemaker, a member of the Women of the Church of God, and attended the Buffalo Church of God. She is preceded in death by an infant sister. Mary Lynn was disabled and lived at home with her parents. Surviving are son, Arlen Curtiss and his wife Patti of Ripley, two grandchildren and one great grandchild. Additional survivors for Rev. Curtiss are brothers Carroll Curtiss of Sarasota, Fla., and Rev. Wayne Burch of Buffalo. Additional survivors for Norma Lee are sisters, Clara Jividen of Eleanor and Phyllis Raynes of Lock 9, Buffalo; brothers, Warren Jividen of Manilla Ridge, Robertsburg, Dencil Jividen of Manilla Ridge, Robertsburg; Guy Jividen of Eleanor, Otis Jividen of Buffalo, Gilbert Jividen of Manilla Ridge, Robertsburg, Gerald Jividen of Lock 10 Robertsburg, and Donald Jividen of Columbus, Ohio. Joint funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, at Buffalo Church of God, Buffalo with Rev. John Conley officiating. Burial will be at the Buffalo Memorial Park. CROSS LANES - Herbert Denver Eskins, 74, of Cross Lanes went to be with Jesus May 31, 2003 after a long illness. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and retired from Kaiser Aluminum Chemical Corporation. Herbert was a deacon at First Baptist Church of Tyler Mountain. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert T. and Mamie Eskins and also the last of his 12 siblings. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary; daughter, Catherine Thomas of Cross Lnes; sons, Herbert D. Jr. and Ronald, both of Maryland; grandchildren, Joshua, Jeremy, Sally and Amy. Service will be noon Tuesday, June 3, at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home, Cross Lanes with Rev. John Reed and Rev. Steve Nelson officiating. Burial will be in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens. AMERICUS, Ga. - Billie Joy Smith Halstead, 69, of Americus, Ga., formerly of Cranberry, W.Va., died May 31, 2003 at her residence. Survivors other than her mother include her husband, Rev. Jim Halstead of Americus; two daughters and one son-in-law, Kathryn M. Halstead of Americus and Kelly A. and Tim Faircloth of Americus; one son and daughter-in-law, William F. and Jill Halstead of Elliston, Va.; and seven grandchildren, Scott, T.J. and Brad Bailey of Sinks Grove, W.Va., Timmy and Nina Faircloth of Americus, Jasmine Joy Halstead of Elliston, Virginia and Lauren Faircloth of Okeechobee, Fla. Memorial services will be held at 11a.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2003 at First Presbyterian Church, Americus, Ga. Burial will follow at Andersonville National Historic Site. Jackson Street, Americus, GA 31709.She was a native of Cranberry, W.Va., born Sept. 20, 1933, the daughter of the late Grover T. Smith and Kathryn Mitchell Smith who survives her. Mrs. Halstead was a registered nurse and a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Georgia Nursing Association, Sigma Beta Tau International, and was Director of Nursing at Mitchell County Hospital in Camilla and Director of Infection Contall at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany and at Sumter Regional Hospital.

Carrie Ann Phillips Pettry Napier
BECKLEY - Carrie Ann Phillips Pettry Napier, 86, of Beckley went home to bne with her Lord June 1, 2003. Born on July 23, 1916 at Keyrock, she was the daughter of the late John and Martha Stewart Phillips. Carrie spent her childhood at Keyrock. She was a graduate of Pineville High School and Concord College. She was a 4th grade elementary teacher in the Raleigh County School System with 33 years of service. She retired from Cranberry-Prosperity Elementary School. She was a devoted Christian, belonging to the United Methodist Temple where she had been active in Sunday school as a teacher and was a member of circles 3 and 4. She was a former volunteer at the Beckley Veterans Hospital where she had thousands of hours of service and was a member of the Volunteers Hall of Fame. She was a resident of Lilly Street for the past 29 years coming from Johnstown Road. She will be remembered by her family as beloved mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and sister. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Posey Pettry and Alex Napier; two sisters, Neva Lafferty and Mae Thios and six brothers, Alton, Claude, Leonard, Ralph, Seth and Jack Phillips. Survivors include a song, Danny Pettry and his wife Teresa of Beckley; a daughter, Linda Haynes and her husband Wilbur "Butch" of St. Albans; five grandchildren, Brian Haynes and his wife Kristen, Dr. Kara Michelle Haynes White and her husband Mark, Danny Pettry II, Jimmy Pettry, and her namesake, Carrie Anne Pettry; four sisters, Wanda Miller, Jane Peters, Bonnie Lamb and her husband Marvin, all of Beckley, and Betty Phillips of Barboursville. Many nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, at Melton Mortuary, Beckley with the Rev. Ellen File officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley. Friends may call Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Melton Mortuary. Arrangements are by Melton Mortuary.

Eloise Fisher Newlon
Eloise Fisher Newlon, 90, of Charleston, passed away May 30, 2003, at home. She was born May 15, 1913, at Walton, a daughter of the late Romeo H. and Icy Howell Fisher. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Newlon. She was a graduate of WVU, and Columbia University with a degree in library science from Columbia University. She worked at WVU, Cleveland Public Library, Morris Harvey College, and Kanawha County Board of Education. She was a member of St. Marks United Methodist Church, member of Order of Eastern Star, Women's Club of Charleston, member of American Library Association, WVU Alumni Association. Survivors include three cousins, Maurice Romine, Evelyn Park, and Marceline Hughes. Funeral service will be conducted at l0 a.m. Monday, June 2, 2003, at Wilson Funeral Home, Charleston, with the Rev. Judith A. Fisher officiating. Burial will follow in Eventide Cemetery, Spencer. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Nancy Elizabeth Parsons
Nancy Elizabeth Parsons, 55, of South Charleston passed away Saturday, May 31,2003 at home of an extended illness of cancer. She was the daughter of the late Everette H. and Ruth C. Eplin. Nancy is a former member of Alum Creek Independent Missionary Baptist Church and had recently attended Twin City Bible Church in Nitro. Nancy was saved at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, Kanawha City, as a teenager and faithfully served the Lord thereafter. Over the years, she served as Sunday School teacher, church secretary and junior church leader at various churches that she attended. She most loved serving in hospital ministry and sharing the gospel and messages of hope. Her working career consisted of 32 years at Columbia Gas and fifteen months at Charleston National Bank (presently Bank One). She is survived by her husband Charles H. "Buddy" Parsons; and two brothers, John E. Eplin and his wife, Kay, Albert O. Eplin and his wife, Janice, all of South Charleston. She is also survived by one niece, Sheri Lanier and her husband, Daniel, and their two children, Cory Hunter and Cole Logan of South Charleston; and one nephew, Tom Elplin and his wife, Annette of Brunswick, Ga. Friends may call on Monday, June 2, 2003, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Alum Creek Independent Missionary Baptist Church. Service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating, along with Pastor Bill Egerdahl and Youth Pastor Scott Bandy of Twin City Bible Church. Mr. Tom Parsons of Alum Creek will be singing. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to the Ronald McDonald House in Charleston.
