She was a member and former superintendant of Bennett Memorial Methodist Church, Summersville, a Marine Corps corporal veteran of the Women's Reserve during World War II, received a standard normal degree from Glenville State Teachers College, an A.B. and master's degree from Marshall University, and was an educator in Nicholas and Marshall counties with 43 years of service. Suviving: husband, Joseph C. Morton; sister, Lucille Scharper of Huntington; several nieces and nephews. Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Sparks Family Cemetery, Persinger, with the Rev. Brent Brown officiating. The family suggests memorial contributions to the building fund of Bennett Memorial Church, c/o Darlene Sapp, Treasurer, 1517 Armstrong Road, Summersville, WV 26651. Caretta Myles
ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. -- Caretta Myles, 81, of Rocky Mount, formerly of Glen Daniel, W.Va., died Wednesday, April 15, 1998, in Rocky Mount. She was a retired post mistress from the Beckley, W.Va. area and was a member of Northside Community Church, Rocky Mount. Surviving: daughter, Ramona Myles Clay of Rocky Mount; grandsons, Timothy Clay of Rocky Mount, Terry Clay of Youngsville, N.C., Holly Clay of Concord, Va. Service was to be 11 a.m. today at Bowling Funeral Home, 661 English Road, Rocky Mount, with the Rev. William I. Gay Jr. officiating. Burial was to be in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery, Beckley. Jeffrey Alan Reed, 35, of St. Albans died Thursday, April 16, 1998, in St. Francis Hospital after a long illness. He was a truck driver for Rust Industries, a graduate of St. Albans High School and a lifetime resident of St. Albans. Surviving: parents, Joseph and Rosalee Reed of St. Albans; brothers, Joseph E. ALDERSON -- Floyd E. Rickman, 72, of Alderson, formerly of Tram, Ky., died Thursday, April 16, 1998, at home after a long illness. He was a 40-year resident of Alderson, retired from the housekeeping staff of The Greenbrier, White Sulphur Springs, with 20 years of service, and was a Baptist. Surviving: companion, Drema Mae Reed of Alderson; sons of his companion, Bryan Forren of Ronceverte, Michael and Kenneth Forren of Joliet, Ill., William Forren of Lexington, S.C.; daughters of his companion, Carol Forren of Columbia, S.C., Serelda Forren of North Carolina; several nieces and nephews. She was a homemaker, a newspaper reporter, writing Alderson area news for the Hinton Daily News and society articles for The Register-Herald, Beckley, was a 1929 graduate of Alderson High School and a member of Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church, Alderson. Surviving: sons, Andrew Simpson Russell of Williamsburg, Va., James Albert Russell of Morgantown; sisters, Arline Wykle of Fredericksburg, Va., Marjorie McDowell of Ronceverte; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild. NORMAN, Okla. -- Catherine B. Russell, 71, of Norman, formerly of Charleston, W.Va., died Thursday, April 2, 1998, in Oklahoma after a long illness. She graduated from Charleston Catholic High School and St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in Charleston, was a registered nurse at St. Francis Hospital, Charleston, and retired from the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Muskogee, Okla. Surviving: sons, John of Braggs, Okla., David of Joplin, Mo.; daughter, Lynn Shirley of Norman, Okla.; brothers, Ted Brennan of St. Albans, W.Va., Tom Brennan of Charleston; sister, Mary Ann MacCormick of Sanibel, Fla.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Service was held April 4 in Norman.

HURRICANE -- Hiram D. Spencer, 72, of Hurricane died Tuesday, April 14, 1998, in Sweetbrier, Dunbar, after a long illness. He was a retired electrician from Union Carbide, Institute plant, with 35 years of service, a member of Nitro Moose Lodge 565, an Army veteran of World War II and a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a former 30-year resident of Cross Lanes. Surviving: daughter, Sarah "Sally" M. Carroll of Hurricane; sons, Gregory Dale Spencer of Hurricane, Randy Lee Spencer of Cross Lanes; brother, Ronald Spencer of Charleston; six grandchildren. She was born in St. Albans, was a clerk for Howell's Grocery Store, Sherman, with 25 years of service and was an employee of Trenle-Blake Pottery of Ravenswood. She was a member of the Democratic Women's Club and attended Fannin Chapel Church, Sherman. Surviving: son, Franklin W. Spradling Sr. of Ravenswood; brothers, Toney Carson and Mozella Carson of Charleston, Gap Carson of East Bank; sisters, Angeline Iaconis and Barbara Phalin of Charleston, Anna King of New Martinsville; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. He was born at Hemphill, was a retired coal miner, member of St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church, Beckley, the UMW, Moose Lodge 1606, American Legion Post 32 and was an Army veteran of World War II. Surviving: wife, Marie Martin Sutyak; son, George Michael of Beckley; daughter, Elizabeth "Libby" Richmond of Beaver; brother, Joseph of Taylor, Mich.; sisters, Mary Liloia of Boca Raton, Fla., Vera Vest of Princeton; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. She was born in Kfeir, Lebanon, and lived in Huntington from 1937 until October 1997. She and her late husband, Leonard, operated Leonard's Grill, Huntington. She was a member of Fifth Avenue Baptist Church, Huntington, the Dorcas Truth Sunday School Class, Dynamic Adults and American Baptist Women. Surviving: son, Thomas of Germantown, Tenn; daughters, Betty Rahal of Vienna, Va., Judith Prater of Parkersburg, W.Va., Sahndra Starnes of Louisville, Ky.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson. ECCLES -- Flora Alma Yowko, 95, of Eccles died Wednesday, April 15, 1998 at Americare Pine Lodge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a long illness. She was born in Dunlop, was a homemaker, of the Church of God Faith and a resident of Eccles for more than 50 years. Surviving: three sister-in-laws, several nieces and nephews including Sharon Plumley of Beckley, who cared for her. Service was to be 11 a.m. today at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Prosperity, with the Rev. Rugean Ayers officiating. Burial was to be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Noel Kevin Davis
Sgt. Noel Kevin Davis, a 24-year veteran of the West Virginia State Police and commander of the South Charleston detachment, has died of cancer. He was 45. Davis died Friday at his mother's home in Parkersburg. He had been temporarily transferred to the Parkersburg detachment while undergoing treatment at the Cleveland Clinic, said State Police spokesman Ric Robinson. The Parkersburg native had served as a trooper in Paden City, Clarksburg, Shinnston and South Charleston. He also worked on the security detail for Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., while he was governor. Davis was promoted to commander in South Charleston in December 1994. He was the state's director of the American Troopers Association and a member of the West Virginia Troopers Association. Surviving: son, K.C. Davis; daughter, Jennifer C. Davis; granddaughter, Chelsea Renee Davis, all of Charleston; parents, Alcinda and Robert Moore of Parkersburg. Service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Stout Memorial United Methodist Church in Parkersburg. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Parkersburg.
