HURRICANE -- Noma Maxine Tolbert, 75, of Hurricane died Sunday, May 25, 1997, in CAMC, General Division, after a short illness. She was a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church, a homemaker and a lifelong resident of Putnam County. Surviving: husband, Roy M. Tolbert; daughter, Judy L. White of Hurricane; son, Richard L. Tolbert of Freemont, Calif.; brother, Paul Coyner of Scott Depot; three grandsons. Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with Pastor Lee White officiating. She was a 24-year resident of Beckley, a retired factory worker, a Methodist and and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving: friend and longtime companion, Helen Jarosz. Rose Bell Warren Wagner, 94, of Kanawha City died Sunday, May 25, 1997, at home after a long illness. She was a graduate of Beckley High School and attended National Business College, Roanoke, Va. She was employed in the insurance business for many years with the former state Liquor Commission and then the National Bank of Commerce. She was a member of Riverview Presbyterian Church (former Rebecca-Littlepage Chapel) and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving: several nieces and nephews. J.E. Carolyn "Susie" Dery, 60, of Charleston died Monday, May 26, 1997, in Thomas Memorial Hospital after a long illness. She was a retired associate professor of nursing at the University of Charleston, a graduate of Mount St. Joseph's College, Cincinnati, with a bachelor's degree in nursing, was a member of the Alumni Association, and received a master's degree in nursing from the University of St. Louis. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, South Charleston, and the American and West Virginia nurses associations. Surviving: brother, Albert of Charleston; sisters, Patricia Dery Farry of South Charleston, Barbara Baldy of Charleston, Mary Margaret Hinson of Medford, Ore., Elizabeth Looney of San Antonio, Texas. He was a former games protector from the state Department of Natural Resources with 17 years of service and a retired crane operator from Kaiser Aluminum with 19 years of service. He was a Christian, a member and former deacon of Independent Brethren Church, Ravenswood, and a charter member of the United Steel Workers Union Local 5668, a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of VFW Post 6669, Ravenswood. He was a member of the first graduating class of the West Virginia State Police Academy, Institute. Surviving: wife, Oleta "Lucas" Haynes; sons, Edwin Eugene of Three Rivers, Mich., Robert Lee of Portage, Ohio, Stephan Michael of Oliver Springs, Tenn.; daughter, Sharla Ann Cobb of Ravenswood; sister, Alma Medler of Indianapolis, Ind.; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren. He was a retired miner from Riverton Coal Co., an Army veteran of World War II and a member of UMW 2903. Surviving: wife, Louise Hancock Hudnall; stepsons, James Henderson and John Henderson, of Boulder, Colo., Gary Hancock of Gallagher, Phil Hancock of Holly Grove; stepdaughter, Nancy Chappell of Rock Hill, S.C.; several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren. He was a retired trackman from B&O Railroad and a farmer. He was a member of Brotherhood Maintenance of Way, Odd Fellows Lodge, Sutton, and Stone Run United Methodist Church. He was a graduate of Sutton High School and attended Glenville State College.
