He was a lifelong resident of Hampshire County and a lifelong livestock farmer. He was a member of Springfield Presbyterian Church, Romney Lions Club and a 50-year member and past master of Clinton Lodge 86 AF&AM. He was director of First National Bank of Romney for 56 years, where he also served as president, vice-president and Chairman of the Board and also served 12 years as a delegate in the Legislature.
