Norma Jean Gribble
Norma Jean Gribble, 75, of Bruceton Mills, died Thursday Nov. 30, 2000, at Monongalia General Hospital. She was born June 19, 1925, in Booth, daughter of the late John and AnnaBelle Harris Brafford. She is survived by a son and spouse, Ronald and Elaine Gribble, of Somerset, Pa.; three daughters and a spouse, Connie and David Forbes, of Oakland, Md., Charlene Gribble, of Bruceton Mills, and Loretta Reckart, of Bruceton Mills; seven grandchildren, Belinda, Shannon, Brenda, Craig, Steve, Kelley and Felicia; seven great-grandchildren, Michael, Ashley, Amanda, Anna, Jonathan, Katrina and Justin; and a twin brother, Norman Brafford, of Bruceton Mills. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Lloyd Gribble, on March 22, 1989; and 13 brothers and sisters, Ethel, Sam, twins Paul and Pauline, Robert "Bob", Justina, twins Lola and Virginia, Lee, Nellie, John "Bill", Clyde and Donald. Ella Mae 'Red' Bailey
Ella Mae "Red" Bailey, 75, of Flemington, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, in United Hospital Center following a brief illness. She was born Feb. 8, 1925, in Dayton, Ohio, daughter of the late William C. and Clara Bell Rosier Cooper. She was a homemaker and a member of the Flemington Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Burlin S. Bailey Sr., whom she married Sept. 7, 1944; two daughters and spouses, Kathleen Bailey, of Mililani, Hawaii, and Debbie and Danny Snyder, of Grafton; six grandchildren, Luke and Jason Bailey, of Charleston, Kim and Kathy Bailey, of Clarksburg, Kenny Lynch, of Ohio, and Michael Lynch, of Virginia; three sisters, Mary Compton, of Greenville, Ohio, Velma Duncan, of Huber Heights, Ohio, and Betty Duncan, of Troy, Ohio; and five brothers, Bud Cooper, of Springfield, Ohio, George Cooper, of Williamsburg, Ky., Clarence Cooper, of Dayton, John Cooper, of Vandalia, Ohio, and Jim Cooper, of Hamilton, Ky. Lena Marie Snider, 81, of Unity Manor, Morgantown, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, at Madison Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Beulah V. Walls
Beulah V. Walls, 91, of Ridgeley Road, Morgantown, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, at Monongalia General Hospital. She was born Feb. 4, 1909, on the family farm near Gormania, Md., daughter of the late Henry O. and Elizabeth Spencer Martin. She came to Morgantown when she was 16 and lived with her uncle and aunt, Earl and Mary Martin on Stewart Street. She was a longtime member of the Rebekah Lodge No. 51, of Morgantown, an organization for the wives of I.O.O.F. members, and she formerly attended Highland Park United Methodist Church. She is survived by two sons, Hoye A. Walls Jr. and Billy R. Walls, both of Morgantown; six grandchildren, Hoye A. Walls III, Linda Walls, Deborah Walls Rosati, Amy Walls, Billy Walls and Carole Walls, all of Morgantown; and four great-grandchildren, all of Morgantown, and her youngest brother, Leroy Martin, of Beaver Falls, Pa. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Hoye A. Walls Sr., on Aug. 31, 2000, whom she married on June 24, 1928, in Oakland, Md. Robert Earl Fluharty
Robert Earl Fluharty, 55, of Dents Run Community, Mannington, and formerly of Newell, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, at home. He was born Jan. 30, 1945, at Four States, son of William Fluharty, of Mannington, and the late Helen Doshen Fluharty. He was retired from Newell Porcelain Co. He was a member of United Electrical Radio and Machine Workers Local 611, where he served on the executive board and as a shop steward. He was also a member of the Dents Run Baptist Church. He was also an avid hunter and enjoyed farming. He is also survived by his wife, Susan Straight Fluharty, whom he married Nov. 28, 1965; two sons and spouses, Kip and Celeste Fluharty, of Bedford, England, and Kevin and Tonya Fluharty, of New Cumberland; a daughter, Kelly Burch, of New Cumberland; six grandchildren, Marah, Karley, Skylar, Nicholas, Jessica and Autumn; a sister and spouse, Jean and Bert Ice, of Mannington; and a brother and spouse, Frank and Connie Fluharty, of Friendly. Dominick V. Basile
Dominick V. "Beeze" Basile, 72, 2310 Hamill Ave., Clarksburg, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, at United Hospital Center, Clarksburg. He was born Aug. 31, 1928, in Harrison County, son of the late Angelo Basile and Cora Scalzi Basile. He was a bricklayer and retired from state government having served in various positions in the Rockefeller and Caperton administrations. He was very active with the Democratic Party and election activities for many years. He was a member of the Columbian Club, the Loyal Order of Moose, the Sons of Italy Marconi Lodge and Saint James the Apostle Catholic Church of Northview. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Portaro Basile, whom he married Oct. 24, 1948; three daughters and spouses, Marlene and Larry Woofter, Donna and Scott Fagersten and Mary and Michael Anthony Gallo; a son, Angelo Basile, of Columbia S.C.; 11 grandchildren, Larry Woofter, Dominick Woofter, Miles Runner, Chris Runner, Courtney Fagersten, Sylvia Basile, Theresa Basile, Shannon Basile, Dominick Basile and Ramzi Dalloul; a great-grandson, David A. Woofter; two brothers, Thomas Basile and Angelo D. Basile, o f Clarksburg; two sisters, Amelia Voldeck and Anna Minnocci, both of Clarksburg; and an aunt, Pauline Simmons, of Clarksburg. Kathryn Eddy Statler
Kathryn Marie Eddy Statler, 68, of Mooresville, died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, at home. She was born April 21, 1932, in Mooresville, daughter of the late Jessie Eddy Connor. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and an avid bingo player. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Virgil Statler; four daughters and spouses, Bonnie Schlegel, of Mooresville, Patricia Fletcher, of Mount Morris, Pa., Ruth and Robert Zickefoose, of Uniontown, Ohio, and Kathy Jean and Russell Frye, of Clinton, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Robert, Richard, Roger and Ronnie Shlegel, Robert Gene and Lillian Zickefoose and Jessi Frye; and three great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Michael and Arnold Statler. Friends may call from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at Owen-Neely Funeral Home in Blacksville. Elva Lillian Spring
Elva Lillian Spring, 90, of Kingwood, died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, at Mon Pointe, Morgantown. She was born Oct. 16, 1910, on Beech Run, daughter of the late Joseph and Loretta Bishop DeWitt. She was a homemaker and a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Loyal Workers SS Class, the Pythian Sisters and the Preston County Senior Citizens. She is survived by a sister, Belle Titchnell, of Bruceton Mills; six nieces, Maxine Graham Trickett, Betty Martin Kennedy, Wilma Graham Radabaugh, Shirley DeWitt, Lucille Titchnell Seal, Annabelle DeWitt Barker; and two nephews, Quentin and Archie DeWitt. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dorsie T. Spring; two brothers, Frank and Jesse DeWitt; two sisters, Cora Nitia Graham and Vespa Wynn. Edith Spence Rousseau
Edith Spence Rousseau, 93, of Westover, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, in Huntington, at the home of her daughter, Kathryn Victoria Rousseau. She was born Feb. 4, 1907, in Myersdale, Pa., daughter of the late John D. and Katherine Poole Spence. She is survived by a daughter, Kathryn; three sons, Bill Rousseau, of Houston, James Rousseau, of Springfield, Mo., and Ronald Jenkins, of Oceanside, Calif.; 11 grandchildren, James, Steve, Jennifer and Mary Jo Rousseau, Suzanne, Scott, Sally, Sharon and Stacey Spencer, Sandra Pence and Shelia Peterson; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a son, Donald F. Rousseau; three sisters, Evelyn Scott, Ruth Spence and Agnes Spence Moore; and two brothers, John Spence and Marshall Watkins. Nellie Sleeth
Nellie Sleeth, 92, of Park Street, Morgantown, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, at her home. She was born Jan. 4, 1908, in Fayette County, Pa., daughter of the late Junius Morrison and Beulah Ellen Smith Strouss. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and a graduate of West Virginia University. She was co-founder and past president of the Friends of West Virginia University Hospital and Sundale Guild, past president of the Women's Auxiliary to West Virginia Medical Club, Women's Society of Christian Service and Delta Delta Delta Morgantown Alumnae Chapter. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Morgantown Chapter 35, Phi Beta Kappa, Order of Vandalia, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association. She was a member of the Board of Directors for Visiting Homemakers, the Delta Delta Delta House Corp. She is survived by three daughters and spouses, Ann Alice Sleeth and Hubert A. Shaffer Jr., of Charlottesville, Va., Mary Virginia Sleeth and Jerry L. Creamer, of Morgantown, Jane Adell Sleeth Fulton, of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; six grandchildren, David Minear Shaffer, Daniel Sleeth Shaffer, James Albert Kent III, Jeffrey Michael Fulton, Clark Benjamin Creamer and Joseph David Fulton; and three great-grandchildren, Adella Grace, Harold Henley and Kendall Mae Shaffer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Clark Kendall Sleeth; a sister, Adella Elizabeth Strouss, a brother, William Gould Strouss; and a grandson, Kendell Adams Shaffer. Opal G. Lemley, 88, of Texas City, Texas, formerly of Morgantown, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, at Gulf Healthcare Center. Service will be 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 4, at McCulla Funeral Home, with Dr. Gary Helms officiating. Burial will be in East Oak Grove Cemetery.

Naomi Turner Keener
Naomi Elizabeth Turner Keener, 78, of Grafton, died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at Grafton City Hospital. She was born April 8, 1922, in Grafton, daughter of the late Warren H. and Esther Carroll Turner. She was a graduate of Grafton High School. She was a homemaker. Her husband and she lived in the Pittsburgh area for 27 years before returning to Grafton. She had been a member of the Eastern Star and White Shrine of Monroeville, Pa. She was also a member of the Monroeville Garden Club, participated in flower shows both as a contestant and a judge. She was a United Methodist and was a member of the Fetterman United Methodist Women. She is survived by her husband, Everett L. Keener, the couple would have been married 58 years on Dec. 21; a sister, Patricia Lanham, of Florida; two sisters-in-law, Pauline Brown and Jean McCloy, both of Grafton; and several nieces and nephews, including Robert and Debbie Brown, of Grafton, and their son, Dakota Brown; and two special friends, Nell Fleming and Kathryn Lambert. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Warren A. Turner; and a nephew, William Brown. In keeping the wishes of the deceased, there was no funeral home visitation and service was private. Reynold 'Rennie' Lutz
Reynold "Rennie" Ralph Lutz, 76, of Grafton, died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2000, at Alliance Personal Care Home, Grafton, after a long illness. He was born Feb. 15, 1924, in Detroit, son of the late John and Clara Jacob Lutz. He lived in Detroit, Farmington, Livonia and Union Lake, Mich., and Granville. He served in World War II with the First Armored Division of the U.S. Army. He also served in the Merchant Marine, and was employed by Evans Products in Farmington and by West Virginia University, where he retired in the early 1990s. He has been cared for by Alliance Personal Care Home, Grafton, since 1999. He loved fishing and bow hunting and spent many happy times pursuing his hobbies in northern Michigan. He also loved ani mals and WVU football. He is survived by his second wife, Ruth Carolyn Lutz; a daughter and spouse, Kerry and Steve Bennett, of Bear, Del.; a sister and spouse, Jeannette and George Counsil, of Roseburg, Ore.; a brother and spouse, Roland and Jean Lutz, or Kingman, Ark.; a sister-in-law, Eunetta Summers, of Grafton; a stepdaughter and spouse, Peggy and Chester Haddix, of Grafton; and a stepson and spouse, Rick and Loretta DeMoss, of Waterford, Calif. Graveside service will be conducted at the West Virginia National Cemetery at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5. Full military graveside rites will be conducted by the VFW Memorial City Post 3081, American Legion Taylor County Post 12, the DAV Chapter 24 and their auxiliaries. Donald Allen Zeigler
Donald Allen Zeigler, 59, of 5760 Oakhill Road, Sumter, S.C., died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia, S.C. He was born Sept. 14, 1941, in West Virginia, son of the late Kenneth and Flora Smith Zeigler. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force with 20 years of service. He was a Vietnam War veteran and received numerous medals, which include, the Armed Forces Expedition Medal, Longevity Service Award Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Campaign Medal and the Philippines Presidential Unit Citation. He is survived by a son, Donald K. Zeigler; a daughter, Norma Zeigler; two grandchildren, Kenneth and Troy Zeigler, all of Sumter; three brothers and a spouse, Marvin Zeigler, of Route 2, Reedsville, Ralph Zeigler, of Paris, Texas, and David and Peggy Zeigler, of Tyrone Road, Morgantown; a sister, Helen Smith, of Independence; and close friends of 35 years, Robert "Woody" Woodward and Margaret Caroon, of South Carolina. Susie Dolly Patterson
Susie Dolly Patterson, 90, of Kingwood, died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, at Heartland of Preston County. She was born Aug. 10, 1910, in Tucker County, daughter of the late Jessie James and Annabell Ludwick Cetrick. She was a homemaker and was Methodist. She was a beloved sister, mother and grandmother. She is survived by three sons, Larry Patterson, Harry Patterson and Jessie Patterson, all of Kingwood; two daughters, Ruth Olde, of Bridgeport, and Ada Hixenbaugh, of Cleveland; and two brothers, Theodore Ludwick, of Kingwood, and Roy Patterson, of Palestine, Texas. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Wesley Patterson Sr.; and a son, John Wesley Patterson Jr. A private service will be held at Browning Funeral Home, in Kingwood. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery.

James Michael Welch
James Michael Welch, 46, of Fairmont, Chesapeake community, died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, at home. He was born Feb. 10, 1954, in Fairmont, son of Beverly Ann Hall Welch, of Fairmont, and the late Sardie Brant Welch Jr. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was a loan quality specialist with the Fairmont Federal Credit Union and had served the financial industry in Marion County for many years. He had assisted the law offices of Frank Cleckley and the late Frank Sansalone. He was formerly in the automotive business in the Fort Worth/Dallas area for several years. He enjoyed working with high-tech electronics and helping others in whatever capacity required. He is also survived by a brother, Sardie Brant Welch III, of Acworth, Ga.; a sister, Sarah McLaughlan, of Fairmont; a nephew and spouse, Sean and Mary Jo Shannon, of Mineral Point, Wis.; three nieces, Whitney McLaughlan, of Fairmont, Krista Welch, of Morgantown, and Amber Welch, of Fort Worth; and an aunt, Ruth Hall, of Columbus, Ohio. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Howard Hall Welch; and an uncle, Kenneth Hall. Harry Hagedorn Jr.
Harry Hagedorn Jr., 59, of Dellslow, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, at Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born Jan. 21, 1941, in Morgantown, son of Gladys V. Taylor Hagedorn, of Dellslow, and the late Harry Hagedorn Sr. He was a member of the Riverside Apostolic Church in Westover. He was employed with West Virginia University Hospital for 27 years, where he was an Animal Tech-3 in the Animals Quarter. He was Employee of the Year at WVU Hospital in 1991. He was an avid bowler and was a caddy at Lakeview Resort for several years. He is also survived by his wife, Lillie E. Kerns Hagedorn; a son, Shawn Travis Hagedorn; a daughter and friend, Sarah Virginia Hagedorn and Terry Carter, all of Dellslow; two brothers and spouses, Allen Lee and Ellen Hagedorn, of Wilmington, Del., and Roger and Janet Hagedorn, of Westminster, Md.; and a sister-in-law, Pamela Hagedorn, of Kansas City, Mo.
