Jack S. Evans
Jack S. Evans, 88, of Heritage Point, Morgantown, formerly of Lumberport, died Thursday, May 3, 2001, at Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown. He was born Sept. 11, 1912, in Pittsburgh, son of the late Jack Francis and Mabel Smith Evans. He was a graduate of Burgettstown High School and attended the University of Pittsburgh. He was employed by the Hope Natural Gas Co. of Clarksburg for 39 years in the Land and Right of Way Department. He was a member of the Lease and Right of Way Association, Shinnston Masonic Lodge 32 Mason, and was an acknowledged Civil War historian. He is survived by his wife, Betty Shuttlesworth Evans; three daughters, Carolinda Wayland, of Mason Neck, Va., Kathy Evans-Meade, of Northport, Mich., and Meredeth E. Kiger, of Morgantown; three grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a son, Jack H. "Jeb" Evans; a brother, David Evans; a sister, Jane Evans Logan. Cremation services will be provided by Hastings Funeral Home. A memorial service and internment will follow at a later date at the convenience of the family. Kathryn J. Sharp
Kathryn J. Sharp, 59, of Route 1, Thornton, died Friday, May 4, 2001, at home. She was born Jan. 23, 1942, in Taylor County, daughter of the late Charles J. and Bertha Maude Beckner Bowman. She was a homemaker. She was Protestant. She is survived by her companion, Ralph F. Williams, of Thornton; four sons, Charles W. Sharp, of Arthurdale, Everette Jennings Sharp, of Orville, Ohio, Philip Lee Sharp, of Marshall, Okla., and David Ray Sharp, of Burgman; a daughter, Loretta J. Sharp Poling, of Philippi; a sister, Irene Workman, of Independence; a brother, William "Bill" Bowman, of Mount Clair; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Carl Bowman, Pete Bowman and Joe Bowman, and two sisters, Loretta Hall and Mary Stump. Friends may call at Donald G. Ford Funeral Home from 7-9 p.m. Monday and from 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, until the 11 a.m. service, with Pastor Phil Nestor officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Elsie H. Ziats
Elsie H. Ziats, 74, of Highlands, Texas, formerly of Star City, died Thursday, May 3, 2001, at Baytown Hospital, Baytown, Texas. She was born July 22, 1926, in Brownsville, Pa., daughter of the late Gustave A. and Sarah Ann Drews. She worked as a nurse's aide while in West Virginia and was a homemaker. She is survived by a son, Howard Leroy Drews Sr., of Highlands; a brother and spouse, Clyde F. and Virginia Drews, of West Virginia; two sisters and spouse, Ruth McBee, of Morgantown, and Glenna Lee and Norman Curren, of Detroit; three grandchildren and spouses, Lisa Lanae and Don Allen, Howard Leroy Jr. and Toni Drews, and Lance Duane and Vicki Drews, and nine great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her husband, George Hrivnak; four brothers, Eugene Drews, Howard Drews, Charles Drews and Gustave A. Drews Jr.; and three sisters, Clara May Show, Betty Chesko and Sarah Ann Strickler. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 7, at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Mount Morris, Pa., with the Rev. Robert L. Raber
Robert L. Raber, 77, of 445 VanVoorhis Road, Morgantown, formerly of Mount Morris, Pa., died Friday, May 4, 2001, at Madison House Personal Care Home, Morgantown. He was born July 7, 1923, in Mount Morris, son of the late Clyde J. and Kathryn Throckmorton Raber. He lived in Mount Morris from 1947-1999, then due to his health, moved to Florida near his daughter for six months. Then, in November 1999, he moved to Madison Assisted Living in Morgantown. He served for many years on the Mount Morris Water Board. He was one of the founders of the Mount Morris Sportsman Club. He worked for several years for Alltel Telephone Co., retiring in 1984. He is survived by his wife, Ellen McDonald Raber, whom he married June 28, 1947; a daughter, Joyce Diehl, of Boynton Beach, Fla.; four grandchildren, Michael Diehl, Matt Diehl, Julie Wiley and Janet Diehl; and an aunt, Alice Raber, of Mount Morris. He was also preceded in death by two half brothers, Kenneth Skeleton and John Skeleton. Douglas Kevin Matheny
Douglas Kevin Matheny, 36, of Grant Town, died Thursday, May 3, 2001, at Fairmont General Hospital. He was born April 12, 1965, in Fairmont, son of Wilma Lee Ferrell Matheny, of Mannington, and the late Marion Mansfield Matheny. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in Desert Storm. He was a musician, an artist and an avid sports fan. He was employed with Jim C. Hammer Lumber Co. He was a 1984 graduate of North Marion High School, and was Protestant. He is also survived by his wife of eight years, Lynn Ann Haught Matheny; a sister, Carolyn Sue White, of Fairmont; three brothers, Ronald Matheny, of Fairmont, Thomas Matheny, of Charles Town, and Mark Matheny, of Mannington; a father-in-law and mother-in-law, David and Cathy Haught, of Fairview; and a sister-in-law and fiancee, Amanda Haught and Kyle Shaffer, of Fairview. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Janet Jones. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Masters Funeral Home. Service will be 1 p.m. Monday, May 7. Dealous F. Williams
Dealous F. "Gordon" Williams, 85, of Carolina community, died Friday, May 4, 2001, at home. He was born Sept. 2, 1915, in Braxton County, son of the late George M. and Lucy Jane Allen Williams. He worked with the B&O Railroad and was previously a retired coal miner of 40 years with the Carolina Mines, Idamay Mines and Federal No. 2 Mines. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church on Swisher Hill. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Erma Morris Williams; a son and spouse, Ken Gordon and Shirley Williams, of Fort Pierce, Fla.; a daughter and spouse, Janette and Gary Talerico, of Fairmont; two brothers, Denzil Williams, of Helens Run, and Warren Williams, of Lakeland, Fla.; four grandchildren, Anita Blondin, of Connecticut, Robert Lee Williams, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Sharon Crowe, of Huntsville, Ala., and Heather Talerico, of Fairmont; and six great-grandchildren, Cory, Zachary and Hannah Bl ondin, Jack Williams, and Adian and Liam Crowe. Melody Lambert
Melody Ann Cottrell Lambert, 41, of Route 10, Fairmont, died Friday, May 4, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, after an extended illness. She was born Jan. 16, 1960, daughter of the late Cecil and Sylvia Cottrell. She was a member of the Goshen Baptist Church. She was employed at Ruby Memorial Hospital. She is survived by her husband, Jerry Lambert; a son, Robert Cottrell, at home; two daughters, Amy and Wendy, both at home; five brothers, Lloyd Cottrell, of Widen, Gary Cottrell, Bradley Cottrell and Marvin Cottrell, all of Masontown, and Rick Cottrell, of Morgantown; and three sisters, Wanda Lee Davis and Lisa Loughery, both of Morgantown, and Connie Bonner, of Reedsville. Pauline Johnson Brewer
Pauline Johnson Brewer, 79, of Point Marion, Pa., died Friday, May 4, 2001, at her home. She was born Jan. 20, 1922, in Morgantown, daughter of the late Francis and Ada Grace Berkshire Johnson. She was an active and faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Point Marion, where she served as a deaconess, teacher of the Anti-Can't Ladies Bible Class, president of Missionary Society, and sang in the choir for many years. She also assisted with the Surplus Food distribution in Point Marion, and was a former member of the Rebekah Lodge. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Ira "Bugs" Brewer Jr., whom she married June 11, 1937; a son, Harold O. Brewer, of Orrville, Ohio; two daughters and spouses, Barbara and W.R. Roderick, of Millboro, Va., and Ruth Ann and Walter Henigan, of Smithfield, Pa.; a sister, Evelyn Frankenberry, of Point Marion; a sister-in-law, Alberta Johnson, of Point Marion; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Lawrence, Ralph and Raymond Johnson, and a sister, Elizabeth Baigent. Friends may call at the Richard R. Dessie B. Lewis
Dessie B. Lewis, 91, of Morgantown, formerly of Blosser Hill, Lake Lynn, Pa., died Friday, May 4, 2001, at the MonPointe Continuing Care Center, Morgantown. She was born July 10, 1909, in Blosser Hill, daughter of the late Benjamin F. and Rose Ellen Kirby Lewis. She was a member of the Oak Grove Church of Christ at Morris Crossroads and secretary of the Fayette County Sunday School Association from 1931-1937. She was a 1928 graduate of Point Marion High School, and of the Morgantown Business School. She retired in 1975 from the First National Bank in Morgantown where she was assistant to the vice president and secretary for the bank board of directors. She is survived by 10 nieces and nephews, Fannie Watt, Emma Frazee, Martha Karpel, Helen Conley, Aloma Earles, Betty Card, Harold Barnes, Hazel Gromek, Delores Sheer and Erma Ashkettle. She was preceded in death by three brothers, J. Walter Lewis, Paul C. Lewis and Hugh Lewis, and two sisters, Theodosia Cunningham and Viola Mae Porter. Friends may call at the Richard R. Catherine E. Antonini
Catherine E. Antonini, 87, of Morgantown, died Sunday, May 6, 2001, at Monongalia General Hospital. She was born Oct. 28, 1913, in Salerno, Italy, daughter of the late Michael and Barbara Laurita Volpe. She was a member of the Sons of Italy; Loggia La Vittoria 914; Columbiana Federation Ladies Auxiliary 42; Sarah's Table; and a long-time member of St. Theresa's Roman Catholic Church. She is survived by two daughters and spouses, Margaret and Glenn McBee and Barbara and Frank Oates, all of Morgantown; three sons and spouses, Joseph and Kathleen Antonini, of Michigan, James and Diana Antonini and Anthony and Beverly Antonini, all of Morgantown; two brothers, John Volpe, of Baltimore, and Charles Volpe, of Spring Hill, Fla.; two sisters, Josephine McManus, of Baltimore, and Rose McManus, of Bristol, Pa.; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Theodore "Tony" Antonini, on Feb. 9, 1981; a sister, Frances Volpe; and two brothers, Frank Volpe and Nick Volpe. Sylvia May Taylor
Sylvia May Taylor, 78, of Snake Hill Road, died Saturday, May 5, 2001, at home. She was born May 15, 1922, in Sabraton, daughter of the late Fletcher and Effie Dunn Walker. She was a member of the Riverside Apostolic Church and was an avid quilter and homemaker. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Delbert T. Taylor; a daughter and spouse, Connie May and Calvin Edgell; two granddaughters and spouse, Michelle and James Britton, and Stephanie Edgell; a grandson, Wesley Edgell; and two great-grandsons, James Caleb and Joshua Hays Britton, all of Morgantown. John Alton Burns
John Alton Burns, 86, of Rowlesburg, died Sunday, May 6, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born Oct. 30, 1914, in Keyser, son of the late William Henry and Lillian June Plum Burns. He attended the Brunnerdale Seminary in Canton, Ohio. He was a welder and helped build the Tygart Valley Dam, and also worked as a brakeman for the B&O Railroad. He was a member of the St. Phillomena's Catholic Church in Rowlesburg. He is survived by three sons, John DelSignore and Harman DelSignore, both of Rowlesburg, and Roscoe Collins, of Fairmont; six daughters, Amy Nestor, of Fairmont, Maria Ayersman, of Rowlesburg, Rubin Slaton, of Bridgeport, Barbara Burns, of Rowlesburg, Mary Ridenour, of Moatsville, and Marion Harris, of Rivesville; three brothers, Chester Burns, of Terra Alta, Russell Burns, of Winston Salem, N.C., and Clarence Burns, of Killbuck, Ohio; three sisters, Nellie Nethken, of Rowlesburg, Mable DeWitt, of Kingw ood, and Goldie Boylan, of Independence; 20 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Virgil Burns and Dewey Burns; a sister, Eva Burns; and a grandson, James Alton DelSignore. Deborah N. Barton
Deborah Susan "Debbie" Nicholas Barton, 50, of Uniontown, Pa., died Saturday, May 5, 2001, at Uniontown Hospital as a result of an accident. She was born July 15, 1950, in Uniontown, Pa., daughter of Charles Nicholas, of Uniontown, and Margie Brady Nicholas, of White House, Pa. She was a graduate of Albert Gallatin High School Class of 1968. She attended White House Free Methodist Church for most of her life. She was a former employee of General Electric Specialty Chemicals in Morgantown for 17 years, the Albert Gallatin Home Care in Uniontown for 10 years, and was last employed with Anker Energy of Morgantown. She is also survived by a son, William "Bill" Barton and Stephanie Artis, of White House, Pa.; a brother and spouse, Alan and Eve Anne Nicholas, of White House; a sister and spouse, Cindy and Alan Myers, of Smithfield, Pa.; nieces and nephews, Matthew and Brooke Myers and Mykal and Heather Nicholas; and two special friends, Swoosie and Taffy Ann. Judith Ann Prahl
Judith Ann Prahl, 63, of Fairmont, died Saturday, May 5, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, following a long battle with cancer. She was born Sept. 25, 1937, in Watson, daughter of Lawrence Burl and Mary Shaver Hartley. She enjoyed her family and traveling. She last worked as a file clerk for Astro Buick. She is also survived by her husband, Charles K. "Tink" Prahl, whom she married on Sept. 12, 1953; two children and spouses, Kimberly and Robert Steele, of Fairmont, and Bert and Emily Prahl, of Fairmont; and five grandchildren, Timothy and Gina Prahl, and Amanda, Shawna and Shayna Steele. At her request, her body will be cremated. There will be no service. Richard M. Newmeyer
Richard M. Newmeyer, 42, of Waynesburg, Pa., formerly of Charleroi, Pa., died Friday, May 4, 2001, at Greene County Memorial Hospital. He was born Jan. 4, 1959, in North Charleroi, son of John J. and Pauline Newmeyer, of Greensburg, Pa., and the late Lillian Doroban Newmeyer. He graduated from Charleroi High School in 1977 and lived in Waynesburg for the past 16 years. He worked as an end loader operator for Hatfield Power Plant and was a member of the Utilities Workers' Union Local 102. He was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Waynesburg. He is also survived by his wife, Karen Yagnich Newmeyer, whom he married on Feb. 14, 1987; a daughter, Sarah Marie Newmeyer, at home; four brothers, William Newmeyer, of Laurel, Md., J.J. Newmeyer III, of Morgantown, Paul Newmeyer, of Wilmington, Del., and Mark Newmeyer, of Westmoreland County, Pa.; two sisters, Marian Kohan, of Erie, Pa., and Anne Poncheri, of Reading, Pa.; a stepbrother, David Roscoe, of Greensburg, Pa.; and a stepsister, Linda Tanner, of New York. Eugene M. Sullenberger
Eugene Milo Sullenberger, 72, of Poland Mines, Dilliner, Pa., died Friday, May 4, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown. He was born Oct. 5, 1928, in Dilliner, son of Agnes Sullenberger, of Poland Mines, and the late Leroy Sullenberger. He was formerly employed at Davis and Lynch Glass Co., Morgantown. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his spare time. He is also survived by a son, Robert Sullenberger, of Dilliner; a grandson, Daniel Eugene Sulenberger, of Rices Landing, Pa.; a sister, Florence Groves, of Cameron; and a brother, Martin "Buck" Sullenberger, of Millsboro, Pa. William Terry Johnston
William Terry Johnston, 49, of West Boyd Street, Grafton, died May 4, 2001, at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center, Clarksburg, following an extended illness. He was born June 3, 1951, in Grafton, son of Leo Chester Johnston, of Grafton, and the late Evelyn Ables Harris. He was a retired Air Force veteran, having served as an aerospace maintenance craftsman. He was also a member of VFW Post 3081, Grafton, and Grafton Masonic Lodge 15 Order of Scottish Rite. He is also survived by a daughter and spouse, Dawn Michelle and William J. Moleins, of Browns Mills, N.J.; a son, Isaac Sean Johnston, of Bath, Maine; two grandsons, Colin and Billy Moleins, of Browns Mills; a brother, Michael Johnston, of Odessa, Fla.; and two sisters, Lisa Clinnard, of Tampa, Fla., and Kathy Downey, of Odessa. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Norma Jean Johnston, on April 29, 2000; and a brother, Tom Clinnard. A service of remembrance will be conducted at the convenience of the family. Innie M. Hearn
Innie M. Hearn, 54, of Lazzelle School Road, Morgantown, died Sunday, May 6, 2001, at Big Bear Lake Campground. She was born March 17, 1947, in Morgantown, daughter of the late Frenzie Marion and Anna Ruth Galford Murphy. She was a homemaker and Protestant. She loved bowling. She is survived by two sons, James Edward Hearn, of Morgantown, and William Edward Hearn Jr., of Grafton; a daughter, Catherine McCauley, of Grafton; three sisters, Monotia Basem, of Maidsville, Carolyn Poe, of W.Va. 73, Morgantown, and Shirley Murphy, of Ohio; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Lena Braddock
Lena Braddock, 77, of Cleveland, formerly of Morgantown, died Thursday May 3, 2001, at St. Vincent Charity Hospital in Cleveland. She was born May 29, 1923, in Grafton, daughter of the late Joe and Ethel Pell Velone. She was employed as a bus driver for the Cleveland Public School system. She is survived by her husband, Elvie Braddock; a sister, Mildred Boggs, of Granville; and a brother, Joseph Velone, of Mount Morris, Pa. She was also preceded in death by several sisters. Friends may call at Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. Service will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 9, with Rev. George Koon Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the East Oak Grove Cemetery.

LeRoy D. Malott
LeRoy D. Malott, 71, of Halleck Road, Fairmont, died Sunday, May 6, 2001, at home. He was born Dec. 23, 1929, in Monongalia County, son of the late Lonnie L. and Frances Copeland Malott. He was retired as a mechanic from CONSOL No. 7 Humphrey Mine and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of UMW District 31 Local Union 1057. He is survived by his wife, Margaret J. "Peggy" McKinney Malott; four daughters and spouses, Jeanne and Roy Zinn, of Morgantown, JoAnn and Randy Hill, of Morgantown, Janet and Charles "Bud" Stone, of Morgantown and Jennifer Malott, of Bridgeport; a brother, Robert E. Malott, of Maidsville; three sisters, Doris L. Sickles, of Morgantown, Lenore Bussey, of Mount Morris, and Gloria Colebank, of Morgantown; and five grandchildren, Roy IV and Angela Zinn, both of Morgantown, Joshua and Ashley Shuttlesworth, of Morgantown, and Logan Sisk, of Bridgeport. Friends may call at Dering's Funeral Home from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. Service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, with the Rev. S.E. Moats officiating. Burial will be in Lawnwood Cemetery.

Donna Jean Eisentrout
Donna Jean Eisentrout, 69, of West 5th Street, Westover, died Monday, May 7, 2001, at home, after a long illness. She was born Nov. 18, 1931, in Westover, daughter of the late Charles L. and Mildred Blanche Sheets Scott. She was a member of the National Rifle Association, the American Postal Workers Union Auxiliary, the Monongalia County Extension Quilt Club and a past member of the Westover Women's Club. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Bill Eisentrout; two daughters, Virginia Cosner and Sylvia Webber, both of Westover; a son, John Eisentrout, of Westover; two brothers, Charles Scott and Raymond Scott, both of Westover; eight grandchildren, Barbara Smith, Keri Yokopovich, Carly Eisentrout, Kelly Eisentrout, Casey Eisentrout, Kimberly Eisentrout, Jessica Webber and Samantha Webber; and seven great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Wayne Scott, Lloyd Brown and Duke Scott. Friends may call at McCulla Funeral Home from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday. John Alton Burns
John Alton Burns, 86, of Rowlesburg, died Sunday, May 6, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born Oct. 30, 1914, in Keyser, son of the late William Henry and Lillian June Plum Burns. He attended the Brunnerdale Seminary in Canton, Ohio. He was a welder and helped build the Tygart Valley Dam, and also worked as a brakeman for the B&O Railway. He was a member of the St. Phillomena's Catholic Church, Rowlesburg. He is survived by three sons, John DelSignore and Harman DelSignore, both of Rowlesburg, and Roscoe Collins, of Fairmont; six daughters, Amy Nestor, of Fairmont, Maria Ayersman, of Rowlesburg, Rubin Slaton, of Bridgeport, Barbara Burns, of Rowlesburg, Mary Ridenour, of Moatsville, and Marion Harris, of Rivesville; three brothers, Chester Burns, of Terra Alta, Russell Burns, of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Clarence Burns, of Killbuck, Ohio; three sisters, Nellie Nethken, of Rowlesburg, Mable DeWitt, of Kingw ood, and Goldie Boylan, of Independence; 20 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Marion Parker Bell DelSignore, in September 1990; two brothers, Virgil Burns and Dewey Burns; a sister, Eva Burns; and a grandson, James Alton DelSignore. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, at Taylor Funeral Home, Newburg, with the Rev. Vincent Segotta as celebrant. Burial will be in Bell Hill Cemetery, Macomber.
