Adam J. Hawkins
Adam Jayson Hawkins, 89, of Fairmont, died Thursday, May 10, 2001, at Fairmont General Hospital. He was born Oct. 25, 1911, in Marion County, son of the late Lewis "Lee" L. and Emma "Zanie" Luania Satterfield Hawkins. He had worked as a coal miner in the area, last working at the Grant Town Mine. In 1951, the family moved to Warren, Ohio. He worked for the J.M. Barbe Co., an affiliate of North American Van Lines, the moving division in Warren, for 22 years. After his retirement in 1973, the family returned to Fairmont. He was an active member of the Viola Union Mission Church, where he served as a trustee and song leader. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Teamsters Local of Youngs town, Ohio. He enjoyed playing the guitar, singing in the church, hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Edna Pauline Nedley Hawkins, whom he married Aug. 28, 1942; two sons and spouses, James L. and Beverly Hawkins, of Port Saint Lucie, Fla., and Paul J. and Marjorie Hawkins, of Warren; two daughters and spouse, Mary L. Jacobs, of Hobe Sound, Fla., and Dee and Kenneth Hays, of Newton Falls, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson. He was also preceded in death by two daughters, Patricia Naylor, and Sandra Hawkins, in infancy; a son, Gary Hawkins, in infancy; and four sisters, Ruby McDougal, Opal Ragar, Geneva Mathew, and June Baugher. Louise Kendall
Louise Kendall, 84, of Mannington, died Thursday, May 10, 2001, at Wishing Well Health Center in Fairmont. She was born Dec. 11, 1916, in Burton, daughter of the late Andrew Simpson and Fannie Essie Bartrug Rushford. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Mannington, where she taught Sunday school and directed the church's youth group for many years. She was a graduate of Hundred High School, and was retired from Westinghouse Electric Corp. in Fairmont after more than 30 years. She is survived by two sons and spouses, Robert and Linda Kendall, of Charleston, and Gary A. and Martha Kendall, of Mannington; a sister, Maxine Lambert, of Burton; and a granddaughter, Alissa Russell, of Youngwood, Pa. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence W. Kendall, on June 24, 1987; and a sister, Helen Baker. Joseph Locke Boliner
Joseph Locke "Spark" Boliner, 77, of Grafton, died Wednesday, May 9, 2001, at home, under the care of Hospice. He was born Dec. 21, 1923, in Grafton, son of the late Charles F. and Mary Locke Boliner. He was retired from the Equitable Gas Co. as general fieldman. He served in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara Duckworth Boliner; two daughters and spouses, Kathy and Jim Lunden, of Morgantown, and Mary Ellen and Bob Beltner, of Grafton; and three grandsons, Ian Lunden, of Morgantown, and Chip and Nicholas Wolfe, both of Grafton. Mary Elizabeth Spencer
Mary Elizabeth Britton Spencer, 57, of Elkins, and a patient at Barbour County Good Samaritan Center at Belington since December 2000, died Saturday, May 12, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital. She was born Jan. 7, 1944, in Rowlesburg, daughter of the late Gay Victor and Anna Elizabeth Shreve Britton. She was a graduate of Rowlesburg High School. She worked at the Fairlea Restaurant at Aurora and as a live-in companion and caregiver. She was Methodist. She is survived by a son, Jeffrey D. Spencer, of Elkins; two daughters and spouse, Edith and Bobby Brenwalt, and Judith Elaine Spencer, all of Dailey; two brothers, John D. Britton, of Nutter Fort, and Jerry A. Britton, of Valley Bend; five sisters, Patty A. Fragmin, of Anmoore, Linda S. Bolyard, of Rowlesburg, Jeanie J. Shipe, of Keyser, Edith M. Biser, of Oakland, Md., and Debbie E. Britton, of Fairfax, Va.; a half brother, Clarence C. Shreve, of Baltimore; a half sister, Dorothy Ford, of Grafton; fiv e grandchildren, Matthew Brenwalt, Cory Brenwalt, Robin Howell, Heather Howell and Kyrsten Spencer; and a stepgrandchild, Devan Collins. She was also preceded in death by her former husband, Sterle D. Spencer, on Oct. 1, 1994, whom she married Feb. 19, 1966, at Red House, Md. Laura Ashley Donham
Laura Ashley Donham, 13, of Roanoke, Va., died Thursday, May 3, 2001, at Duke University Hospital. She was born Sept. 3, 1987, in Roanoke, daughter of Jeremy A. Donham, of Morgantown, and Kimberly A. Turner Donham, of Roanoke. She was an honor student at Hidden Valley Middle School in Roanoke. When in Morgantown she loved to spend evenings with her father, watching funny videos, singing and dancing with her stepmother, playing Uno and games like hide-and-seek with her grandmother, aunts and cousins. She was especially fond of her brother Christian. She loved to write on her dad's laptop computer. She is also survived by a stepmother, Wendy Knight-Donham, of Morgantown; a brother, Christian Michael Donham, of Morgantown; grandparents, Allen and Jeanne Donham, of Morgantown, Ronald and Marilyn Turner, of Roanoke, and stepgrandparents, Dr. Roy and Susie Knight, of Grafton; and great-grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Mary E. Lewis
Mary E. "Bobbie" Lewis, 81, of Richwood Avenue, died Tuesday, May 8, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital. She was born Sept. 25, 1919, in Pittsburgh, daughter of the late Charles and Nellie Perkins Sheppard. She was a member of Covenant Evangelical Methodist Church since 1988. She was retired from the Kennedy Youth Center, where she had been employed from 1967-88. She also worked at Odyssey House until 2000. She was involved with many church committees, including Health and Welfare Ministry, Mothers of Pre-Schoolers (MOPS), Elderberry Senior Saints and Koinonia Bible Study. She is survived by a son, Charles Lewis, of Boston; four sisters, Margaret Lane, Victoria McMaa, Ruth Sheppard and Rebecca Sheppard, all of Pittsburgh; three brothers, Stanley Sheppard, Foy Sheppard, both of Pittsburgh, and Harry Sheppard, of Baltimore. She was also preceded in death by a brother, William Sheppard. Friends may call at Covenant Evangelical Methodist Church from 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 15, until the 11 a.m. service with the Rev. Charles E. Bowers
Charles E. Bowers, 84, of Waynesburg, Pa., died Saturday, May 12, 2001, at Greene County Memorial Hospital. He was born Aug. 14, 1916, in Kirby, Pa., son of Charles E. and Carrie John Bowers. He was Protestant. He was a graduate of Mount Morris High School Class of 1936. He played baseball and football during school and enjoyed sports all of his life. He worked for Hillman Coke at the Poland Mines, the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture and he retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation after 27 years of service. He was also a bus contractor for Waynesburg Central School District for 42 years, which was his lifelong passion of service to children and the community. He was a Democrat Committeeman and a member of Waynesburg Moose Lodge 461. He is survived by a daughter and spouse, Marlene and Charles Hunnell, of Englewood, Ohio; a granddaughter and spouse, Carla and Bruce Clapp; three great-grandchildren, Ashley Clapp, Casey Clapp and Hailey Clapp; a niece, Mary Atkinson; five great-nieces; and a devoted friend, Leanna Fox. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Edith Fox Bowers, on July 22, 1984; two sisters, Evelyn Eslinger and Addie Higgins; and a nephew, Elmer Higgins. Clarence Bussey
Clarence R. Bussey, 83, of Linden Street, Morgantown, died Wednesday, May 9, 2001, at Morgan Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born Sept. 9, 1917, at Promise City, Iowa, son of the late Abraham John and Treva Bussey. He was a retired automotive engineer and had worked at the Chrysler Corp. He served with the U.S. Navy in World War II. He was a member of Spruce Street United Methodist Church in Morgantown. He is survived by a daughter, Ida Lou Bussey Finn, of Texas; a brother, Joseph Bussey, of Pittsburgh; two sisters, Jennivee Brewer, of Rochester, Mich., and Harriet Bungard, of Morgantown; two grandchildren, Tonya Barnette, of Texas, and David Finn, of New Jersey; a stepdaughter, Kay Smith, of Greenwood, Ind.; two stepsons, John Burgman, of Russiaville, Ind., and Bill Burgman, of Atlanta; and a close friend, Emma Abrigo, of Morgantown. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Watson Bussey; his second wife, Laura "Billie" Miller Burgman Bussey; four brothers, Franklin, Carl, Roy and Emmer Bussey; a sister, Ada; and a stepdaughter, Lois Streza. Graveside services with military honors will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 17, at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Kokomo, Ind. A memorial service will be at a later date. Martha F. Tomlin
Martha F. Tomlin, 76, of Orlando, Fla., formerly of Grafton, died Friday, May 11, 2001, at home. She was born Oct. 19, 1924, in Grafton, daughter of the late Charles Luther Ford and Mary Virginia Longo Ford. She was an office manager for a plastic surgeon and was Methodist. She is survived by a sister, Joan Powell, of Grafton; and nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters. Friends may call at Donald G. Bryon Eugene Jones
Bryon Eugene "Mike" Jones, 75, of Helen's Run community, Farmington, died Saturday, May 12, 2001, at home. He was born Aug. 15, 1925, in Farmington, son of the late Arlie and Mabel Shanks Jones. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Farmington. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in the South Pacific Theater during World War II. He was a graduate of Farmington High School and a retired coal miner from the Robinson Run Mine for Consolidation Coal Co. He is survived by his wife of more than 55 years, Gertrude D. Mastrolia Jones; two sons and spouse, Bryan Dennis "Moon" Jones and Michael E. and Sandra Jones, all of Farmington; three grandchildren, Kimberly Jones Ferrebee, Sharon Jones Shaffer and C.J. Fazio; and six great-grandchildren. Friend may call at the Dent Funeral Home in Farmington from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday. There will be a Rosary service at 7 p.m. Monday. Bernard Calvert
Bernard L. "Bud" Calvert, 68, of Spraggs, Pa., died Friday, May 11, 2001, at home. He was born Nov. 17, 1932, in Blacksville, son of the late John W. and Dorothy Masters Calvert. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was retired from Mylan Pharmaceutical Co. and was a member of Blacksville United Methodist Church. He was on the board of directors of the Clay-Battelle Senior Center and volunteered as a van driver for the center's Blacksville Nutrition Site. He is survived by three sons and spouses, Mike and Treva Frankos, of Weirton, and Gary and Dana Calvert and Bradley and Susan Calvert, all of Spraggs; a daughter and spouse, Donna and Robert Simpson, of Spraggs; two sisters, Lillian Pitzer, of Hundred, and Icie M. Wilson, of Minerva, Ohio; and nine grandchildren, Kristy Frankos, Josh Frankos, Clint Kramer, Brittany Calvert, Terry Calvert, Derek Calvert, Andy Calvert, Travis Calvert and Jarrod Simpson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Norma Longstreth Calvert, on June 6, 1996; a son, Terry Carl Calvert; a grandson, Robbie Lee Simpson; and a brother, John William Calvert. Elizabeth JoAnn Heck
Elizabeth JoAnn Heck, 66, of Lorain, Ohio, formerly of Fairmont, died Friday, May 11, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital. She became ill while visiting relatives in Fairmont. She was born July 24, 1934, in Fairmont, daughter of Lester L. and Doris G. Vincent Moran, of Fairmont. She was a homemaker. She graduated from East Fairmont High School in 1952. The family moved to Lorain in 1955. She is also survived by her husband of 46 years, Oliver A. Heck; four daughters, Linda Heck, Carla Jo Milam, Etta May Heck and Beth Ann Heck, all of Lorain; a sister and spouse, Lucille and Kenneth VanGilder, of Fairmont; five grandchildren, Jennifer Milam, Tabitha Milam, Thomas Milam, Tracey Robinson and Ericka Heck; a niece and nephew, Joyce Ann VanGilder and Karl VanGilder, of Fairmont; and an uncle and spouse, Dorsey Richard and Thelma Vincent, of Fairmont. Bertie Lee Boswell
Bertie Lee Boswell, 77, of Morgantown, died Saturday, May 12, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital. She was born Feb. 26, 1929, in Lavinia, Tenn., daughter of the late William Herschel Manning and Mabel McKinney Evans. She previously worked for Ash Hat Shop and Montgomery Ward. She moved from Waco, Texas, in 1966, where she had owned and operated a beauty school. She was a member of Spruce Street United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Wayside Helpers Sunday School Class. She is survived by a son, Joseph Merricus Boswell, of Spartansburg, S.C.; a daughter, Kathy June Boswell, of Roanoke Rapids, N.C.; three grandchildren, Destiny and Brittany Boswell, both of Powellton, and Noah Boswell, of Roanoke Rapids. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Snowden Miller Boswell; a sister, Christine Durse; and a brother, Gilbert Manning. Friends may call at Fred L. Dale Robin Moore
Dale Robin Moore, 43, of Mannington, died Saturday, May 12, 2001, at home. He was born March 5, 1958, in Richwood, son of Virginia Taylor Moore, of Monumental, and the late Edgel Moore. He was Protestant. He was a coal miner, working for Eastern Federal 2 with 24 years of service. He was a member of the UMWA in Fairmont, the Fairmont Moose Lodge and the Rachel Sportsmen Club. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He is also survived by his wife, Carlena Chapple Moore, of Mannington; two daughters, Robin Moore, of Rivesville, and Christy Moore, of Mannington; four sisters and spouses, Patricia Moore, of Fairmont, Judy and Lou Testa, of Manassas, Va., Mary and John Gorman, of Grant Town, and Kathy and John Gower, of Rivesville; and his father and mother-in-law, Carl and Paulette Chapple, of Barrackville. He was also preceded in death by a brother, David Moore. Virginia Alice Shafer
Virginia Alice Shafer, 82, of Bruceton Mills, died Sunday, May 13, at Monongalia General Hospital. She was born April 9, 1919, in Bruceton Mills, daughter of the late Marshall Gay and Euruth Kelly Guesman. She was a member of Glade Farms United Chapel, Brandonville United Methodist Women, and was a Sunday school teacher and a public school teacher. She is survived by her husband, Alva Shafer; six daughters and spouses, Judy and Frank Wilhelm, of Lenox, Janet and Alvin McKee, of Kirby, Emily Shafer, Margaret and James Boreing, and Mary and Rodney Nieman, all of Bruceton Mills, and Linda and Tink Lowry, of Ohiopyle, Pa.; two sons and spouses, James and Darby Shafer, of Kingwood, and Robert and Joyce Shafer, of Bruceton Mills; two sisters and spouses, Elsie and Allen Russett, of Iowa, and Betty and Frank Ferriola, of Delaware; a brother, Dale Guesman , of Westover; 24 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. Loretta Malone
Loretta Stottlemire Malone, 89, of Fairmont, died Saturday, May 12, 2001, at Marion Health Care Hospital in Fairmont. She was born Sept. 24, 1911, in Fairmont, daughter of the late John and Anna Hicks Stottlemire. She worked as a custodian at Beneficial Finance and the Marion County Board of Education at the Watson School. She is survived by several nieces and nephews, including Martha Jane Lucas. She was also preceded in death by three husbands, Charles Wilks, Walker Willing and Ishmael Malone; four brothers, Tom, Dick, Harry and Louie Stottlemire; and two sisters, Wilda Lucas and Bessie Satterfield. Rebecca Long Strosnider
Rebecca Long Strosnider, 59, of Morgantown, died Saturday, May 12, 2001, at home. She was born Aug. 12, 1941, in Morgantown, daughter of the late Clyde and Ada (Bowlby) Long. She attended the Mount Morris Gospel Tabernacle, Assembly of God Church in Mount Morris, Pa. She was a member of the Cass District CEO Womens Organization. She was a homemaker. She is survived by three sons and spouses, James and Marsha Strosnider Jr., Edward and Karla Strosnider, and Wiliam Shawn and Crystal Strosnider, all of Morgantown; a sister-in-law, Stella Long, of Mount Morris; and five grandchildren, James Robert, Nicole, Daniel, Hannah and Shawn Hunter Strosnider. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Linzy Strosnider; a son, Patrick Henry Strosnider; a daughter, Suzanna Kay Strosnider; a brother, William E. Long; and a sister, Kathleen Strosnider. Marie Anna Phillips
Marie Anna Phillips, 80, of Morgantown, died Saturday, May 12, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital. She was born Jan. 22, 1921, in Pittsburgh, daughter of the late Aloysious and Anna Somer Lang. She was Catholic. She was a homemaker and had been an employee of St. Joseph's Hospital in Pittsburgh. She is survived by two sons and a spouse, Gerald Lang, of Pittsburgh, and Bobby Earl and Rosie Phillips, of Clarksburg; two daughters and spouses, Marion and Wilfred Pell, and Anna Marie and Stuart Root, all of Morgantown; a brother, Albert Lang, of Canonsburg, Pa.; a half brother, Charles Lang, of Pittsburgh; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Beulah Hartsell Jefferys
Beulah Hartsell Jefferys, 95, of Terra Alta, died Friday, May 11, 2001, at Heartland of Preston County. She was born Oct. 13, 1905, in Rowlesburg, daughter of the late Forrest M. and Icie Hileman Hartsell. She was a homemaker and attended the Kingwood Free Methodist Church. She is survived by a daughter and spouse, Jean and Gene Tichenell, of Terra Alta; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Paul T. Jefferys; three sons, Lawrence J., Donald J., and Paul J. Jefferys; seven brothers, Forrest, Lawrence, Walter, Floyd, Kenneth, George and Harold Hartsell; and a sister, Mildred Calhoun. Everett L. Hennen
Everett L. Hennen, 34, of Holbrook, Pa., died Saturday, May 12, 2001, at Greene County Memorial Hospital. He was born Aug. 8, 1966, in Waynesburg, Pa., son of Hazel M. Hennen Watson, of Waynesburg, and the late Edwin L. Hennen. He was affiliated with the Bristoria Church. William Cannon Jr.
William Taylor Cannon Jr., 72, of Grant Town, died Saturday, May 12, 2001, at home. He was born June 3, 1928, in Farmington, son of the late William T. and Oretha Hazel (Martin) Cannon. He was a retired coal miner from Eastern Coal Federal No. 1 Mine, a member of the United Mine Workers Local 4047, U.S. Army veteran, member of the Grant Town Volunteer Fire Department and Washington Street Church of Christ in Fairview. He is survived by his wife, Ellen Irene (Gates) Cannon; three sons and spouses, William and Sharon Cannon III, of Fairview, Robert and Diana Cannon, of Fairmont, and Michael and Rhonda Cannon, of Keyser; four daughters and spouses, Sheryl and Maynard Friend, of Nashville, Tenn., Sue and Mike Yeater, of Lynchburg, Va., Cindy and Tim Stevenski, of Grant Town, and Jenny and Tom Huffman, of Dover, Del.; a sister, Madeline Buchanon, of Lancaster, Ohio; 15 grandchildren, S. Travis, Tina, Paige and Lara Cannon , Chris, Amy, Melanie and Chase Stevenski, Jenna Beth, Bonnie, John and Beckie Friend, and Brian, Justin and Andrew Huffman. Jesse N. Dalton
Jesse N. Dalton, 89, of Mountainview Manor, Morgantown, died Monday, May 14, 2001, at Morgan Manor. He was born Feb. 5, 1912, in Morgantown, son of the late John William and Lila Giles Dalton. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy as a mechanical engineer. He was a graduate of the University of Illinois, and completed postgraduate work at West Virginia University. He was employed with the DuPont chemical plant and was a driver for Osgood Bus Lines. Later, he was employed with WVU for 23 years as a mechanical engineer, having retired in 1977. He was a member of the IOOF, where he served as past grand and grand conductor of the Grand Lodge. He is survived by several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie E. Dalton, and several brothers and sisters. Friends may call at Hastings Funeral Home from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday and from 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, until the 2 p.m. service, with the Rev. Dr. Stacy L. Groscup officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. The IOOF will conduct services Tuesday at 8 p.m.

Geraldine L. Everly
Geraldine Levenna Everly, 89, of Granville, died Sunday, May 13, 2001, at Monongalia General Hospital. She was born Aug. 16, 1911, in Weaver, daughter of the late Jay and Lucinda P. Lanham Hunt. She was a member of Granville United Methodist Church. She was a former employee of the Davis and Lynch Glass Co. and a member of the Davis and Lynch Glass Union 548. She is survived by a daughter and spouse, Carolyn Lee and Fred Galloway, of Morgantown; a twin sister, Pauline St. Clair, of Morgantown; three grandchildren and spouses, Bill and Angie Galloway, of Broadway, Va., Sam and Cindy "Sissy" Smith, of Morgantown, and David and Tammy Galloway, of Bristol, Va.; eight grandchildren, Heather, Sean, Billy and Brooke Galloway, Lance and Drew Wallman, and Hannah and Eric Galloway. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Francis "Dutch" Marion Everly, on Nov. 28, 1964; a sister, Maxine "Dimples" Peterson; five brothers, Jay Hunt Jr., Leslie "Tiny" Hunt, Arnold, Blaine and Ronald Hunt. Friends may call at Hastings Funeral Home from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. Service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 16, with the Rev. Gary Helms officiating. Adelene Piscitelli
Adelene Piscitelli, 80, of Fairmont, died Saturday, May 12, 2001, at home. She was born Sept. 15, 1920, in Fairmont, daughter of the late Patsy and Theresa Forte Carlomagno. She was a member of St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church. She was formerly employed by Mason Pharmacy. She is survived by a daughter and spouse, Susan and Roland Hevener, of Mingo Junction, Ohio; two brothers and a spouse, Frank and Norma Carlomagno and Joseph Carlomagno, of Washington, D.C.; a sister, Louise Harry, of Fairmont; and five grandchildren, Kathy Getz, Jacqueline Mounts and Joseph, James and Mark Pyles. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James V. Piscitelli; a son, James Piscitelli; and a sister, Carmela Retton. Friends may call at Domico Funeral Home, Fairmont, from 3-9 p.m. Wednesday. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 17, at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, with the Rev. Jude Molnar as celebrant. Burial will be in Mount Carmen Cemetery, Fairmont.
