Mildred Jane Altomare
Mildred Jane Boyer Altomare, 88, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2001, in Carol Sumey Personal Care Home, Uniontown, Pa. She was born March 9, 1913, in Springhill Township, Pa., daughter of the later William H. Boyer and Emma Clemmer Boyer. She was a member of the Fallen Timbers Community Chapel, Point Marion. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Salvadore "Sally" Altomare, on Aug. 27, 1978; and a brother, Charles Boyer. Friends may call at Louis E. Rudolph Funeral Home, Point Marion, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., and in Fallen Timbers Community Chapel from 10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 24, until the 11 a.m. service, with the Rev. Scott Teets officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Morris Crossroads.

John Keller Whitehair Sr.
John Keller Whitehair Sr., 74, of Terra Alta, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2001, at Garrett Memorial Hospital, Oakland, Md. He was born Jan. 24, 1927, in Terra Alta, son of the late Arch Franklin and Gladys Whitehair. He owned and operated Fike-Watson Funeral Home in Terra Alta for 35 years. He graduated from Terra Alta High School in 1945, serving as president of his class, and from Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a former member of the National and West Virginia Funeral Directors Associations. He was a founding member of Terra Alta Rotary and the Terra Alta Ambulance Squad. He was a current member of Kingwood Rotary, the Terra Alta Lions Club and First United Methodist Church, Terra Alta. He is survived by his wife, Norma Strawser Whitehair; three sons, John K. Whitehair Jr., of Terra Alta, Thomas William Whitehair and Timothy Franklin Whitehair, both of Lusby, Md.; two sisters, Josephine Gunea, of Accident, Md., and Helen Yeager, of Romney; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Scott, Jonathan Clinton, Sarah Michelle and Hannah Marie Whitehair. Friends may call at A.H. Wright Funeral Home, 105 Highland Ave., Terra Alta, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, and at First United Methodist Church, Terra Alta, from 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24, until the 11 a.m. service with the Revs. Michael Daniels and Berlin H. Wilhelm officiating. Burial will be in Terra Alta Cemetery, with military graveside services by Preston County VFW Posts.

Garnet Bell Austin
Garnet Bell Austin, 83, of Dorsey Lane, Morgantown, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2001, in Ruby Memorial Hospital. She was born Nov. 14, 1917, in Morgantown, daughter of the late Wilbert and Mattie McMillen Rhodes. She was a homemaker and an avid fan of WKKW radio. She is survived by five sons and spouses, Thomas and Mary Rhodes, of Woodburn, Ind., Wilbert "Doc" and Mitzi Austin, of Fort Wayne, Ind., Theodore "Junior" and Joyce Austin, of Woodstock, Conn., Terry and Kathy Austin, of Morgantown, and Charles and Rosa Austin, of Morgantown; five daughters and spouses, Nancy Heinze, of Morgantown, Linda and Larry Grimes, of Paulsboro, N.J., Marion and James Keener, of Morgantown, Lilly and Mark Matthews, of Morgantown, Lois and Greg Tenney, of Morgantown; two brothers, Jack "Dusty" Rhodes, of Fort Wayne, and Charles "Chuck" Rhodes, of Cambridge, Ohio; 37 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Theodore Austin; her second husband, Earl Keener; a son, William Earl Austin; a daughter, Judith Ann Austin; a grandson, Robert Heinze Jr.; a sister, Mildred Fortney; and a son-in-law Robert Heinze Sr. Friends may call at Dering's Funeral Home, Morgantown, from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, and from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday. Service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, with Dr. David Spence officiating. Burial will be in Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens. Josephine Kose
Josephine Kose, 86, of Rachel, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2001, at Sundale Nursing Home. She was born Oct. 21, 1915, in Four States, daughter of the late John and Karolina Michnowicz Vingle. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Mannington. She was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She had formerly worked at Decorator Industries and had also worked as a waitress at JoAnn's Barbeque. She enjoyed quilting, sewing and gardening. She is survived by two daughters and spouse, Patricia Ann and Ted Tekieli, of Westover, and Carolyn Kovar Pasko, of Farmington, with whom she made her home for the past four years; two sons and spouse, Joseph E. and Linda Kose, of Barrackville, and Nick Kose, of Rachel; grandchildren, Denise Kovar, Robert and Nancy Kovar, Rachel and Roger Harrison, Teresa and Mike Haines, Joseph Scott Kose and friend, Sherry Thatcher; and six great-grandchildren, Sedrek Kovar, Celka Kovar, Ana Harrison, Noah Harrison, Kylie Harrison and Leah Haines. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Kose, in 1963; two sons-in-law, George Kovar and William Pasko; a daughter-in-law, Mary Lou Kose; a granddaughter, Mary Jo Kose; a sister, Mary Potoczny; and a brother, Edmund Vingle. Friends may call at Masters Funeral Home in Mannington from 3-9 p.m. Friday. The Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, with the Rev. Franklin Neville as celebrant. Burial will be in Viewpoint Cemetery in Rachel.

Sylvia Massie Wilson
Sylvia Massie Wilson, 83, of Mannington, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2001, at her daughter's home in Rivesville, where she lived for three years. She was born Jan. 1, 1918, in Rymer, daughter of the late Spencer and Sara Hibbs Kiger. She was Protestant and worked as a caregiver to Mary Jo Fortney, of Mannington, for 15 years. She is survived by her former husband, Robert R. Wilson, of Elkins; two daughters and spouses, Sandra and Jim Keffer and Carol and Tom Dunigan, all of Rivesville; a sister, Opal Satterfield, of Mannington; a brother, David Kiger, of Wheeling; a sister-in-law, Betty Wilson Kiger; six grandchildren, James Keffer, Cassandra Dunigan, Christina Dunigan-Haught and Thomas Dunigan, all of Rivesville, Jeff Keffer, of Fairmont, and John Keffer, of South Riding, Va.; and a great-grandchild, Paige Nicole Keffer. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Glen and Wilbert Kiger. At her request, the body was cremated. A memorial service will be held at Masters Funeral Home in Mannington at a later date to be announced.

Alexander Munro
Alexander Munro, 76, of Fairmont, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born May 15, 1925, in Belleville, N.J., son of the late David Crawford Munro and Mary Leigh Hughes Munro. He was a former employee of Westinghouse Electric, Fairmont. He is survived by his wife, Edith Saario Munro; a daughter and spouse, Gayle and Jose Pellot, of New Jersey; a son, Paul Munro, of Morgantown; and two grandchildren, Josh and Kury Munro. He was also preceded in death by a son, Scott Munro. Friends may call at Domico Funeral Home, Fairmont, from 1-9 p.m. Friday, and from noon Saturday, Aug. 25, until the 2 p.m. service. Entombment will follow in Grandview Memorial Garden Mausoleum Fairmont.

Mary Louise Roupe
Mary Louise Roupe, 93, of Mannington, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2001, at Fairmont General Hospital. She was born May 5, 1908, in Mannington, daughter of the late Jefferson Elwood and Cora Belle Bartrug Clovis. She was Christian. She has worked as a waitress in New York for several years. She enjoyed cooking and being a homemaker. She is survived by three brothers, Herbert Clovis, Harold Clovis and Paul Clovis, all of Weirton; a daughter-in-law, Rebecca Roupe, of Mannington; three grandchildren and spouses, Alisa and Danny Roupe, of Mannington, John and Joyce Roupe, Four States, and Andrea Roupe, of Mannington; four great-grandchildren, Lynda Tulanowski, Jack Tennant, Cassie Lynn Roupe and Heidi Jo Efaw; and a great-great-grandchild, Ty Tulanowski. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Howard E. Roupe; a son, Jackson Jefferson Roupe; an infant son, Charles W. Roupe; two brothers, Carl and Everett Clovis; an infant brother, Christopher Clovis; and three sisters, Gertrude Fluharty, Loleen Hayway and Connie Sloan. Friends may call at Masters Funeral Home, Mannington, from 2-9 p.m. Thursday. Service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24, with Pastor Ken Wright officiating. Burial will be in Harmony Cemetery in Burton.

Exie Jane Long Frame
Exie Jane Long Frame, of Mount Clare, formerly of Westfield, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2001, in United Hospital Center in Clarksburg after a long illness. She was born July 3, 1911, in Braxton County, daughter of the late Alvie Curtis and Enzina Sutton Curtis. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was also a member of McCanns Run United Methodist Church, and the Lightburn Rebekah Lodge, and was a homemaker. She is survived by six sons, William Frame, of Mount Clare, Paul Frame, of Fredericksburg, Va., Zane Frame, of Weston, David Frame, of Stafford, Va., Thomas Frame, of Bridgeport, and Robert Frame, of Core; a daughter, Dessie Messenger, of Washington, Va.; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Paul Frame, whom she married in 1934, and who died in 1996; four brothers; and four sisters. Friends may call at Boyle Funeral Home, Weston, from 6-8 p.m. Thursday. Service will be in Broad Run Cemetery at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24, with the Rev. Susan D. Rector officiating. Burial will be in Broad Run Cemetery.

Leona Blanche Blosser
Leona Blanche Blosser, 85, of Norwood Addition, Morgantown, died Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, at Monongalia General Hospital. She was born May 8, 1916, in Morgantown, daughter of the late Duard and Effie Cunningham Wolfe. She attended Morgantown High School and was a member of Sabra United Methodist Church. She was formerly employed at Morgan Shirt Factory and had an 18-year career in food service at the WVU Student Union. She loved to sew and cook, and had a green thumb. She is survived by a son and spouse, Glenn D. Jr. and Susan Blosser, of Morgantown; a daughter and spouse, Nancy and Chuck Jamison, and their dog, Katie, all of Charlotte, N.C.; two brothers, Clifford Wolfe and Bobbie Joe Wolfe, both of Morgantown; and a granddaughter, Nicole Blosser. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Glenn D. Blosser Sr.; and two brothers, Wilbert Wolfe and Lester Wolfe. Friends may call at Hastings Funeral Home from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 23, until the 11 a.m. service, with the Rev. Stacy L. Groscup officiating. Burial will be in Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens.

Eunice Velma Higgins
Eunice Velma Higgins, 69, of Brownton Community, Route 1, Flemington, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital after a long illness. She was born March 15, 1932, in Brownton, daughter of the late Grant Thomas Pope and Fannie Lee Turner Harris Pope. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the former Rising Star Baptist Church at Galloway. She lived her life in Cambria County, where she was born. She always helped in a time of need. She is survived by her husband, Howard Gene Higgins Sr., of Brownton; two sons, Howard G. Higgins Jr., of Morgantown, and Grant T. Higgins, of Brownton; a daughter, Velma L. Posman, of Rochester, N.H.; a sister, Margaret Doty, of New York; seven grandchildren, Jeremy, Alyssa, Derek, Monica, Mikel, Rebecca and Jeanelle Higgins. She was also preceded in death by a son, Rudy George Higgins; four sisters, Claudie Mae Frankins, Bessie Smith, Fannie Jones and Willa May Taylor; and six brothers, James Edgar Harris, Robert Harris, Joe Harris, Henry Harris, Louis Avery Harris Sr. and Calvin Pope. Exie Jane Long Frame, of Mount Clare, formerly of Westfield, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2001, in United Hospital Center in Clarksburg after a long illness. Opal Casteel Fantacci
Opal Louise Casteel Fantacci, 80, of Civitan Street, Suncrest, died Friday, Aug. 24, 2001, at Monongalia General Hospital. She was born Jan. 5, 1921, in Morgantown, daughter of the late Russell and Clara Shaver Casteel. She worked for Monongahela Power Co. and Montgomery Ward Co. on High Street, and retired as a decorator from Davis-Lynch Glass Co. She graduated from Morgantown High School in 1938. She was active in Morgantown bowling leagues and played golf until she became disabled. She was a wonderful cook and and an accomplished seamstress and craftsperson who loved her family and enjoyed playing bingo and Scrabble. She was a longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Star City. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Peter Paul Fantacci Jr., whom she married Sept. 30, 1939; two daughters and a spouse, Barbara Anne Zealy, of Leesburg, Va., and Jane Louise and Patrick Cyphert, of Morgantown; two sons and a spouse, Roger Steven Fantacci and George Vernon and Patricia Fantacci, all of Morgantown; two sisters and a spouse, Lona Stishan, of Baltimore, and Helen and Bill Wolfe, of Morgantown; 10 grandchildren, Ellen Baumann, of Houston, Dean Guntner, of Ocala, Fla., Charles and Lynn Guntner, of Leesburg, Va., Patrick A. and Carrie Cyphert, of South Riding, Va., Erica Cyphert, Jeremy Cyphert, Luke Cyphert, Emily Cyphert, Christina Fantacci and Maria Fantacci, all of Morgantown; and five great-grandchildren, Sean Baumann, Christopher Guntner, Rachel Guntner, Kendall Guntner and Madison Guntner. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Forrest Casteel and Harold Casteel, and an infant son, Peter Paul Fantacci III. Heidi Michelle Payne
Heidi Michelle Payne, 36, of Stow, Ohio, died Sunday, July 29, 2001, after a long battle with leukemia. She was the daughter of Leon and Rosanna Payne, of Stow. She was a 1983 graduate of Stow High and Liberty University and was a graduate student recently at University of Rochester. She had also been with Campus Crusade for seven years, including time at West Virginia University. She is also survived by a brother, Kevin Payne. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, at Trinity Episcopal Church on Willey Street, Morgantown. Donations: Grace Baptist Church or the Leukemia Society.

Dr. Marvin R. McClung
Dr. Marvin Richard "Dick" McClung, 84, of Heritage Point in Morgantown, died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2001. He was born April 3, 1917, in Bamboo, son of the late Marvin K. and Nettie Pearl Nutter McClung. He was retired from the Animal and Veterinary Science Department at West Virginia University in 1979, having served six years as chairman of the department. He served as president of the Arkansas Poultry Improvement Association, served 15 years on the Corporate Board of Directors for Southern States Cooperative Inc., Richmond, Va.; served three years on Board of Statesman Financial Corp.; three years as board counsel for Nationwide Insurance Co.; was enshrined in the West Virginia Agriculture & Forestry Hall of Fame; chairman of WV Lions Counsel Board of Governors; member of the following organizations; American Association for the Advancement of Science; American Council of Official Poultry Test; American Dairy Science Association; American Genetic Association; American Society of Animal Production; World's Poultry Science; Fellow of the American Association for Advancement of Science; Honorary State FFA Farmer in Rhode Island and West Virginia; life member of the American Poultry Historical Society. He was Mason. He was also a member of Alpha Zeta, Phi Beta, Gamma Sigma Delta, Phi Kappa Phi, Phi Sigma and Sigma Xi. He received the following awards: Melvin Jones Fellow Lions International Foundation Emeritus Life Member, Phi Kappa Phi by chapter at WVU; Distinguished Alumni Award, WVU, College of Agriculture and Forestry, Recognition Award, National Agriculture Day, Agriculture Educator and the West Virginia Agricultural Hall of Fame. He is survived by his wife, Isabelle Coffman McClung; a daughter and spouse, Emily McClung Pritt and Rick Pritt, of Morgantown; a son and spouse, Warren M. and Lois Measles McClung, of Slippery Rock, Pa.; a sister, Mrs. Golda June Hume, of Oak Hill; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Ann McClung; and two sisters, Grace Moore and Gladys Skidmore.
