Rean James "Sonny" Miller, 53, of Boyds, MD, died Thursday, March 2, 2000 at his home. Born September 10, 1946 in Alexandria, VA, he was the son of Hannah Marjorie Roberts of Walkersville and the late Rean Statler. He was the owner and operator of Miller Excavating Company of Boyds for 15 years. He was a member of the National Rifle Association. He was an avid outdoorsman. In addition to his wife, Guelda McDaniel Miller, and mother, he is survived by seven children, Edward Downs of Rockville, MD, Jean Schricker of Frederick, MD, Carl Downs of Union Bridge, Patty Martindale of Dickerson, Christopher Miller of Poolesville, MD, Marilyn Miller of Burkittsville, MD and Rean Miller, Jr. of Boyds; 13 grandchildren; four sisters, Lucille Henry of Somerset, PA, Janet Parks of Walkersville, Ellen Smythe of Hedgesville, WV and Carol Marshall of Rockville; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Monday, March 6, at 3 p.m. at the Stauffer Funeral Home Chapel, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. The Rev. Carlton Talley of Oak Grove A.M.E. Mt. Zion Church, Gaithersburg, MD, officiated. Interment was in Boyds Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Boyds. Veronica E. Thompson

Veronica Elizabeth Thompson, 88, of Berkeley Springs, formerly of Baltimore, MD died on Friday, March 3, 2000 at Eden Enterprises in Berkeley Springs. Born June 11, 1911 in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late John Thomas and Mary Katherine Goraney Gallagher. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Berkeley Springs and Our Lady of Pompeii Catholic Church in Baltimore. She was a graduate of Baltimore City Public Schools. She worked as a meat packer with Esskay Foods in Baltimore and has been a homemaker since her retirement. She was a member of the Senior Citizens Club in Baltimore and moved to Berkeley Springs in 1997. Surviving are one son, Michael John Gallagher of Baltimore; two granddaughters, Laurie Levinski of Baltimore and Christine M. Gallagher of Glen Burnie, MD and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wendall Thompson and one grandson, Michael J. Gallagher, Jr. Services and interment will be private. Paul T. Spriggs

Paul Theodore Spriggs, 65, of Great Cacapon, died on Monday, March 6, 2000 at Valley View Nursing Home, Berkeley Springs. Born January 24, 1935 in Great Cacapon, he was the son of the late Beverly Theodore and Jarahnia Magdalene Hivick Spriggs. He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Great Cacapon. He attended Great Cacapon Elementary School. He was the oldest member of the Great Cacapon Volunteer Fire Company. Surviving are one sister, Rose Z. "Judy" Merica of Great Cacapon; one brother, Raymond V. Spriggs of Roseville, CA; two nieces; one nephew; one great nephew; and several cousins. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 9 at the Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, with the Rev. Steven R. Dawson officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Nebo Cemetery, Great Cacapon. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today, Wednesday, March 8, at the funeral home, which will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday. John C. Dickey, 60, of Berkeley Springs, WV, died Thursday, March 2, 2000, at Morgan County War Memorial Hospital, Berkeley Springs. Born September 12, 1939, in Captiva Island, FL, he was the son of the late Carl James and Elizabeth Clark Dickey. He served in the U.S. Air Force. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was the postmaster in Lothian, MD and previously was at Lanham/Seabrook, MD. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1483, Berkeley Springs. Surviving are his wife, Ellen Lawrence Dickey of Berkeley Springs; one daughter, Kathy Lemon of Henderson, NV; two sisters, Julia Scott of North Ft. Myers, FL and Jane Burlingham of Bokelia, FL; one granddaughter, Alexandria Lemon; and one grandson, Michael Lemon. A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 6, at the Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main Street, Hancock, with the Rev. Margee Iddings officiating. Janet E. Self

Janet Elaine Self, 65, of Berkeley Springs, died March 2, 2000 at City Hospital, Martinsburg. She was born September 29, 1934, in Paw Paw, the daughter of the late Bruce S. Bailey and Thelma M. Day Bailey. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Mt. Union Christian Church in Paw Paw. Surviving are her husband, Rumsey W. Self; and one brother, Tommy Bailey of Newark, DE. Funeral services were held Saturday, March 4 at 2 p.m. in the McKee Funeral Home, Augusta, with the Rev. Rodney Truax officiating. Interment was in Salem Cemetery, Points. The family received friends Friday, March 3 at the Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, Berkeley Springs. Arrangements were handled by McKee Funeral Home, Augusta.

Kenneth E. Meade Sr.
1939-2000
Kenneth Eugene Meade Sr., 60, of Berkeley Springs, died Thursday, March 2, 2000 at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, VA. Born on August 13, 1939, in Gore, VA, he was the son of the late Wiley and Ruby Skeen Meade. He worked as a timberman and pulpwood cutter. He also worked at National Fruit Products, Winchester. He was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church in Gore. Surviving are his wife, Judith Whitacre Meade; four sons, Kenneth Meade Jr., Jentry Douglas Meade, Evan Kirk Meade and Travis Jason Meade, all of Berkeley Springs; two brothers, Brady J. Meade of Gore and Jesse Meade of High View; six sisters, Myrtle Fogleman of Bristol, TN, Iva Marple and Loretta Shuster, both of Winchester, Mary Kump of Woodstock, VA, Stella Knotts of Staunton, VA and Mildred Jenkins of Strasburg, VA; and five grandchildren. Services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 6, at the Bethel United Methodist Church, Gore, with the Rev. Rob Lovett officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Charles Sylvester "Bess" Washington, 80, of Harpers Ferry, died Saturday, March 4, 2000, at Valley View Nursing Home, Berkeley Springs. Born December 12, 1919 in Bolivar, he was the son of the late Mary Bertha Washington. He was retired from the Badger Powhatan Company at Ranson. He was a member of the Baltimore Temple King Apostle Holiness Church of God at Ranson. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Blondell S. Washington at home; six daughters, Joan Castro of Charles Town, Sylvia Davis of Martinsburg, Beatrice Joans of Forestville, MD, Selma Fleming and Kimberly Hosby, both of Ranson, and Shelia Willis of Manassas, VA; two brothers, Donald Diggs and Otis Diggs, both of Las Vegas, NV; 16 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by three brothers, David Washington, Eugene Washington and Linwood Washington. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. March 9 at the Baltimore Temple King Holiness Church of God, W. Third Ave., Ranson with the Rev. Sterling Porter officiating. William Nelson "Billy" Adams, 42, of Great Cacapon, died on Sunday, March 5, 2000 at his home. Born October 30, 1957 in Berkeley Springs, he was the son of William Leroy Adams of Great Cacapon and the late Ellen Pearl Divelbliss Adams. He was of the Protestant faith. He was a 1976 graduate of Berkeley Springs High School. He worked as a machine operator in the cleaning department of Rayloc in Hancock. He was an avid outdoorsman, hunter and fisherman. In addition to his father, surviving are his wife, Joy Denise Farris Adams, at home; two sisters, Deborah Kay Adams of Great Cacapon and Anna G. Stotler of Berkeley Springs; one niece; two nephews; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 9 at the Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, with the Rev. Steven R. Dawson officiating. Interment will be in Great Cacapon Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today, Wednesday, March 8, at the funeral home, which will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday.

Erma B. Davis

Erma Belle Heironimus Davis, 89, of the Greenwood section of Morgan County, died on Friday, March 10, 2000 at her daughter's home in Houston, TX. Born March 6, 1911 in Frederick County, VA, she was the daughter of the late Charles Hutchinson and Betty Olivia Bageant Heironimus. She was a member of Greenwood United Methodist Church, Unger. She attended public schools in Frederick County. She had been a homemaker for most of her life. Surviving are one daughter, Wanda D. Place of Houston; three granddaughters, Kenda S. Klorer, Karen K. Place and Kelly J. Place, all of Houston; one brother, Harry Lee Heironimus of Bunker Hill; four great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Herman Davis; and two brothers, James Calvin Heironimus and Charles Edwin Heironimus. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 16, at the Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, with the Rev. Glenn F. Stevens, Sr. officiating. Henry William Close, 34, of Westminster, MD, died March 8, 2000 at home. Born August 12, 1965 in Washington, DC, he was the son of James C. Close Sr. of Augusta and Helen E. Close of College Park, MD. Surviving are his wife, Claudia Close, at home; three daughters, Roxanne Close, Gina Close and Cara Close, all at home; two sons, Henry Close and William Close, both at home; three sisters, Susie Lutman of Berkeley Springs, Sharon Ayers of Romney and Sandra Biscoe of Hyattsville, MD; one brother, James C. Close Jr., of Berkeley Springs; and several nieces and nephews. Arrangements were by Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel in Westminster.

Leona M. Caldwell

Leona Marjorie Zimmerman Caldwell, 72, of Hancock, MD, died Sunday, March 12, 2000 in Caballo, NM. Born in Franklin, PA, August 12, 1927, she was the daughter of Herman Franklin and Etta Mae Zimmerman. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, George "Mick" Caldwell; two sons, Philip George Caldwell of Martinez, GA and Darrell Wayne Caldwell of Hagerstown, MD; one daughter, Lana Etta Weller of Hancock; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and one brother, John Herman Zimmerman of Mercersburg, PA. She worked at McKinley's Food Market, Hancock for over 20 years, and Valley View Nursing Home, Berkeley Springs for five years. She and her husband worked together at the Rock Shop of Bryce Canyon, UT for the past five summers. She was a member of the Orchard Ridge First Church of God & their Women's Ministries. She also played the piano for the evening services. Private burial will be Thursday, March 16, for the family. A memorial service will be held at the Orchard Ridge First Church of God, Friday, March 17, at 7 p.m. for friends and family. Pastor Jeffrey Hawbaker will be officiating both services. Daisy E. Goodwin

Daisy Elizabeth Goodwin, 89, of Great Cacapon, died on Friday, March 10, 2000 at her home while under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle. Born June 7, 1910 in Pearre, MD, she was the daughter of the late William Edward and Gertrude Lucinda Foreback Allen. She was of the Protestant faith. She was a licensed practical nurse and had been a homemaker since her retirement. Surviving are three nephews, including Robert W. Koontz, Jr. of Great Cacapon; three nieces and several great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Horace H. Goodwin; three sisters, Muriel O. Koontz, Opal T. Wharton and Viola C. Riley and one nephew. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 12, at the Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union Street, Berkeley Springs with the Rev. Henry L. Fisher officiating. Interment was in Great Cacapon Cemetery. Jordan Rae Taylor, infant daughter of Tera Sue Yeakle Taylor and Danny Lee Taylor, of Clear Spring, MD, died Sunday, March 5, 2000, at Washington County Hospital. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her maternal great-grandparents, Ruth and Woodrow Henson of Big Pool, MD; maternal grandparents, Virginia and Ray Yeakle of Clear Spring; paternal great-grandmothers, Rosalie Jones of Little Orleans, MD, Ruth Taylor of Hagerstown, MD and Opal Nave of Berkeley Springs, WV; paternal grandparents, Rosalyn and Charles Smoot of Clear Spring, and Ruby and Carroll Taylor Sr. of Falling Waters, WV. Edna Roper Widmyer, 70, of Charles Town, died Wednesday, March 8, 2000 at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson. Born April 28, 1929 in Charles Town, she was the daughter of the late Chester A. Roper and Bertha (Bareford) Roper. She was a member of the Zion Episcopal Church, Charles Town, where she taught Sunday School. She attended Charles Town High school. She was employed for 26 years with the Double Day Book Company, Berryville, VA. She was a homemaker in recent years. Surviving are her second husband of 21 years, Glenn E. Widmyer at home; one daughter, Althea R. Ehrman of San Mateo, CA; two stepchildren, Susan Smoot of Stephens City, VA and Leslie Widmyer of Ashland, VA; four grandchildren, Ryan A. Hines, Joshua D. Hines, Zachary W. Hines and Tyler A. Ehrman; three step-grandchildren, Tanya Lowery, Colleen Widmyer and Nathan Widmyer; two great grandchildren; one sister, Loleta Kelican Alger of Charles Town; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ralph W. Charles W. Henry

Charles Warren Henry, 67, of Berkeley Springs, WV, died Thursday, March 16, 2000. Born on December 24, 1932 in Berkeley Springs, he was the son of the late Edgar L. and Leila Mae Fritzman Henry. He was a chartered member of Calvary Bible Church in Berkeley Springs. He served as treasurer for thirteen years; he also served as trustee and recently served as deacon. He attended public schools in Berkeley Springs. He was a member of Morgan County Wildlife Club during the 1960s and 1970s. He worked as a lab technician with U.S. Silica in Berkeley Springs for 27 years until his retirement in December, 1987. He was a coin collector and liked doing jigsaw puzzles. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Glenna Dean Wills Henry, at home; two sons, Steve Henry and Brian Henry and one daughter, Tammy Shreve, all of Berkeley Springs; seven grandchildren, Abraham Fost, Pagosa Springs, CO, Heather Michael, Steven Henry, Kristy Compton, Jeffrey Stanley, Aaron Henry and Rebekah Henry, all of Berkeley Springs; one brother, Raymond Henry, Rehoboth Beach, DE; three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, David Henry; one sister, Marie Henry and one brother, Homer Henry. Marshall J. Trail, 93, of Hancock,, MD, died Thursday, March 16, 2000 at Colton Villa Nursing Home, Hagerstown, MD. Born May 29, 1906 in Belle Grove, MD, he was the son of the late William Nathan and Helen Mae Norris Trail and the husband of Sylvia Irene Clingerman Trail of Hancock. He was a retired employee of Hepburn Orchards, Hancock. He was a member of the Gospel Light Tabernacle, Berkeley Springs, WV. He is survived by two daughters, Velma Crouse of Big Cove Tannery, PA and Miriam Stachowski of Clear Spring, MD; four sons, Allen Clingerman and Merle Trail, Sr., both of Hancock, Marshall Trail, Jr. of Chambersburg, PA and David Trail of Warfordsburg, PA; 22 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; and 10 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Donald Trail; one sister, Emma Kennedy; and four brothers, Wilbur Trail, Russell Trail, John Trail and Lloyd Trail. Services were held on Saturday, March 18, at 11 a.m. at the Gospel Light Tabernacle, Berkeley Springs. Rev. Russell Cheek and Rev. Ronald Lynch officiated. Burial was in the Piney Plains United Methodist Cemetery, Little Orleans, MD. Arrangements were by the Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main Street, Hancock.

Helen M. Hicks
1907-2000
Helen Montgomery Hicks, 92, of Unger, formerly of Arlington, VA, died on Saturday, March 18, 2000 at Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, VA. Born November 30, 1907 in Ashburn, VA, she was the daughter of the late William and Julia Garrett Weeks. She was of the Baptist faith. She had worked as an operator with the C&P Telephone Company in Washington, DC and had been a homemaker in recent years. She liked watching game shows. Surviving are three daughters, Barbara Arlene LaFalam of Roseville, CA, Marsha F. Cox of Unger and Dottie M. Benson of Berkeley Springs; two sons, David C. Hicks of Arlington, VA and Leonard E. Hicks of Winchester; 14 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard David Hicks; one son, Donald C. Peacher; three sisters, Erva Southard, Frances Fadilio and Ruth Weeks; four brothers, Eugene Weeks, Norman Weeks, Gordon Weeks and Billy Weeks; and one great grandson. Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 21, at the Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, with the Rev. Robert S. Osborne officiating. Interment was in National Memorial Park, Falls Church, VA.

Blaine C. Clingerman, Sr.
1917-2000
Blaine Carlton Clingerman, Sr., 82, of Great Cacapon, WV, died on Monday, March 20, 2000 at City Hospital in Martinsburg, WV. Born July 17, 1917 in Great Cacapon, he was the son of the late William Kenneth and Lottie Loretta Spring Clingerman. He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Great Cacapon. He attended public schools in Paw Paw, WV. He served as Private First Class with Company K, 406th Infantry, U.S. Army from November 18, 1942 until June 23, 1946. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, World War II Victory Ribbon and the Army Occupation Ribbon. He had been a member of Alderton-Dawson American Legion Post #60 in Berkeley Springs, WV. He worked at Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown, MD from 1950-1960 and with the West Virginia Department of Highways from 1960-1964. He retired in May, 1980, after 17 years of service as a shipping clerk with Londontown Manufacturing in Hancock, MD. Surviving are his wife, Janesta Josephine Keefer Clingerman, at home; one son, Blaine Carlton Clingerman, Jr. of Great Cacapon; two daughters, Mary Loretta Swain of Hancock and Kimberly Ann Sharp of Highland, MI; five grandchildren, Dale Scott Clingerman of Berkeley Springs, Herbie Swain of Hancock, Nikki Clingerman of Great Cacapon, Jennifer Swain of Hancock and Stacey Sharp of Highland; two step granddaughters, JoAnn Merchant and Gloria VanGosen, both of Berkeley Springs; eight step great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, William Kenneth Clingerman; one sister, Juanita Bushman; and two brothers, Kermit Clingerman and Kenmore Clingerman. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 23, 2000 at the Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, with the Rev. Henry L. Fisher and Rev. Walter F. Bowers officiating. Interment with military graveside honors provided by the Tri-State Honor Guard will be in Mt. Nebo Cemetery, Great Cacapon. Born July 13, 1939 in Staunton, VA he was the son of the late Fred Wandless and Anna Mae Kale Wandless Hull. He was retired groundskeeper from The Woods Resort in Hedgesville, WV in 1998. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Anna Lee Shoemaker Wandless of Hancock; three daughters, Anna VanGosen and Teresa Hendershot, both of Berkeley Springs, WV and Rita Lynn Poffenberger of Hancock; three sons, Samuel J. Wandless, Jr., of Berkeley Springs, Arnold R. Wandless of Warfordsburg, PA and Freddie F. Wandless of Flintstone, MD; one sister, Eileen McCullough of Falling Waters, WV; one brother, Freddie L. Helen M. Hicks
1907-2000
Helen Montgomery Hicks, 92, of Unger, formerly of Arlington, VA, died on Saturday, March 18, 2000 at Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, VA. Born November 30, 1907 in Ashburn, VA, she was the daughter of the late William and Julia Garrett Weeks. She was of the Baptist faith. She had worked as an operator with the C&P Telephone Company in Washington, DC and had been a homemaker in recent years. She liked watching game shows. Surviving are three daughters, Barbara Arlene LaFalam of Roseville, CA, Marsha F. Cox of Unger and Dottie M. Benson of Berkeley Springs; two sons, David C. Hicks of Arlington, VA and Leonard E. Hicks of Winchester; 14 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard David Hicks; one son, Donald C. Peacher; three sisters, Erva Southard, Frances Fadilio and Ruth Weeks; four brothers, Eugene Weeks, Norman Weeks, Gordon Weeks and Billy Weeks; and one great grandson. Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 21, at the Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, with the Rev. Robert S. Osborne officiating. Interment was in National Memorial Park, Falls Church, VA.

Thomas D. Stephens
1915-2000
Thomas D. Stephens, 84, of Berkeley Springs, WV, died Monday, March 20, 2000, at the Winchester, VA Medical Center. Born in Downingtown, PA, on July 30, 1915, he was the son of the late Thomas Warberton Stephens and the late Florence Harper Stephens. He was married to Gladys Leary Stephens who preceded him in death on November 22, 1984. He was the retired owner of Stephens-Allen Insurance Agency in Berkeley Springs. He had previously been employed with Interwoven Mills in Berkeley Springs. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Berkeley Springs. He was a lifetime member of the Berkeley Springs Volunteer Fire Department, the Deford Masonic Lodge #88 A.F.&A.M., was a Past Master of Deford Lodge in 1946, and he was the oldest Past Master of the Lodge. He was past chairman of the Bath School Reunion committee, past chairman of the Eastern Panhandle Training Center, Martinsburg and volunteered for the annual benefit for the training center. He was a member of the Berkeley Springs Chapter, Order of Eastern Star #77, past Bath City Council member, and was active in Town of Bath affairs. He is survived by two sisters, Mildred Hunsicker of St. Davids, PA and Mary M. Smith of Frederick, MD; two brothers, Earnest "Pete" Stephens of New Castle, DE and Joe D. Michael of Berkeley Springs; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, John W. Stephens and Fred D. Michael. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 23, at the Hunter-Anderson Funeral Home, 106 S. Mercer Street, Berkeley Springs, with the Rev. Owen Womack officiating. Interment will be in Greenway Cemetery in Berkeley Springs. Graveside services will be conducted by the Deford Masonic Lodge #88. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today, Wednesday, March 22, from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Berkeley Springs Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 142, Berkeley Springs, WV 25411.

Frederick S. Barnhart
1948-2000
Frederick Sensel Barnhart, 51, of Hagerstown, MD, died on Sunday, March 19, 2000 at his home. Born April 24, 1948 in Berkeley Springs, WV, he was the son of the late John Frederick and Ruth Margaret Young Barnhart. He was a member of St. Thomas' Episcopal Church in Hancock, MD. He attended Berkeley Springs High School. He worked with Eastern Products until the plant closed and had most recently worked at the Dual Highway Car Wash, both in Hagerstown. Surviving are one brother, Douglas R. Barnhart of Williamsport, MD; one sister, Barbara K. Barnhart of Hagerstown; two aunts and several cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two uncles. Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 23, at Tonoloway Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Fulton County, PA with the Rev. F. Allan Weatherholt, Jr. officiating. Arrangements are being handled by the Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union Street, Berkeley Springs.

Rose M. Asfar
1916-2000
Rose M. Asfar, 83, of Berkeley Springs, died Sunday, March 19, 2000, at Valley View Nursing Home, Berkeley Springs. Born November 7, 1916 in Long Island City, NY, she was the daughter of the late Nazareth Loshigian and Maritza Groonian Loshigian. She was a member of St. Gregory Illuminator Church of America of New York in New York. She had been active with the Morgan County Senior Citizens and the Senior Citizens Kitchen Band. She was a member of A.A.R.P. During World War II, she assisted in making anti-aircraft prisms for the Department of Defense. She owned and operated a dry cleaning business. Surviving are one daughter, Mona DeMarinis of Berkeley Springs; two grandchildren, Maritza Miller and John Paul DeMarinis, both of Berkeley Springs; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Asfar; one sister, Virginia Kasparian; and one brother, Henry Losigian. Funeral services will be held today, Wednesday, March 22, at 1 p.m. at the Hunter-Anderson Funeral Home, 106 South Mercer Street, Berkeley Springs, with the Rev. Owen Womack officiating. Interment will be in Greenway Cemetery, Berkeley Springs. Contributions can be made to the Morgan County Senior Center, Commission on Aging, 404 S. Green Street, Berkeley Springs, WV 25411.
