He was a student at Holly Pond School and a member of Holly Pond United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Bobby Moore. Survivors include his parents; grandparents, Bobby Sr. and Ann Mewbourn of Cullman, Elva Lee Parker of Cullman; three aunts, Melanie (Brad) Sullivan, Bethany Dawn Parker and Sharon (Stan) Smith, all of Cullman; and three uncles, Greg (Belinda) Parker of Hanceville, Rick (Joyce) Parker of Gardendale and Zac Moore. He was born Oct. 8, 1926 in Bremen to John Jerry and Minnie Idella Calvert Kilgo. He was a carpet store owner in Birmingham, ballroom dance instructor at Jefferson State Junior College, and a veteran of World War II, having served on the USS Chehalis, the USS Hector and the USS Kishnaukee. Survivors include a son, Phillip M. Kilgo of Bremen; two grandchildren, Brett Ainsley Kilgo and Tyler Grayson Kilgo, both of Fairfax, Va.; two brothers, N.D. Kilgo of Huntsville and John H. Kilgo of Crane Hill; and four sisters, Grace Ogletree of Mt. Olive, Edith Doubleman of Forestdale, Nettie Heatherly of Welti and Ruth Clark of San Francisco, Calif. He was born in Cullman County on March 30, 1956 to Ulen Lee and Patricia Ann McManus Umphrey. He attended West Point Elementary and High School. He was a 4-H club president, won the County Public Speaking Contest, County Best Record Book. He was a member of FFA, student council and the marching band. He was in Who’s Who Among American High School Students. He attended Jacksonville State University where he received a bachelor of science degree in biology and was in its marching band, and the University of Alabama in Birmingham. He was a teacher at Saint Bedes School in Montgomery, was a sales clerk at Parisians, a biology teacher and head of the science department at Ensley High School. He opened and operated Umphrey’s Limited in Mt. Brook Village and worked as a sales clerk at Homestead House in Birmingham. Survivors include his parents; a brother, James Edward Umphrey of Archer, Fla.; a sister, Jolanda Kay Umphrey (Darryl Wayne) Hutson of Cullman; two nephews, Gavin Wayne Hutson and Colby Luke Hutson of Cullman; four uncles, Alva Coyis Umphrey, Thurman M.
