Miss Myrtie Lee Fryar

Graveside services for Miss Myrtie Lee Fryar, 82, of 111 Eighty Oaks Ave., were Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Jacksonville City Cemetery with K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Crematory in charge.

Miss Fryar died Sunday at her home.

Survivors include two sisters, Sara F. West and Margueritte F. Hartwell, both of Jacksonville; a brother-in-law, Seymour M. West Jr., of Jacksonville; a niece, Beth W. Johnson; two nephews, Ray V. Hartwell III and Seymour M. West III; two great-nieces, Carol Lauren West and Kathryn Hallby West; four great-nephews, Stephen L. Johnson Sr., Ray V. Hartwell IV, William Scherer Hartwell and David Fryer Hartwell; and one great-great-nephew, Ethan Tanner Johnson.

Miss Fryar was a member of First United Methodist Church of Jacksonville, a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and a retired educator. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Fryar, and a brother-in-law, Ray V. Hartwell Jr.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to First United Methodist Church of Jacksonville.

Ruby Faye Faulkner Hester

Graveside services for Ruby Faye Faulkner Hester, 70, were Friday at 2 p.m. at Crestwood Cemetery, with Ronny Moore officiating. Crestwood Funeral Home was in charge.

Mrs. Hester died July 25.

Survivors include a son, Mackey Hester and his wife, Anita Hester of McMinnville, Tenn.; two daughters, Annette Hester and Sheila Edwards and her husband, Rick Edwards, all of Jacksonville; six grandchildren, Christie Hester, Lane Hester, Kim Hester, Ben Moore, Ethan Edwards and Amber Edwards; four great-grandchildren, Stephen Hester, Heather Hester, Amanda Dean and Jacob Dean; two sisters, Elizabeth Bradley of Cedar Bluff and Mary Partain of Gadsden; and four brothers, Johnny Faulkner and William Faulkner, both of Ohatchee, Robert Faulkner of Gadsden and Leon Faulkner of Wellington.

Pallbearers were Edward Taylor, Randy Rich, Brad Vice, Wesley Brown, Buddy Bradley and Charles Brooks Sr.

Mrs. Hester enjoyed playing bingo. Except for eight years as a cook at Coosa Valley Nursing Home in Glencoe, she never worked outside her home. She was preceded in death by her husband, O. L. Hester, and a daughter, Diane Barnett.

HICKS

Graveside services for Ruth Lucille Houston Hicks, 85, were Friday at 12:30 p.m. at Green lawn Cemetery with the Rev. Charles S. Wright officiating. Mickelsen-McGee Funeral Home was in charge.

Mrs. Hicks died July 25 at Jacksonville Health and Rehabilitation Center, where she had been a resident for the past three and one-half years.

Survivors include five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; four brothers, Venson Houston, Lois Martin and Joe Houston, all of Anniston, and Ed Houston of Weaver; and three sisters, Lenoa Wright of Weaver and Ruby Lois Rountree and Ruby Kathleen Stevens, both of Jacksonville.

Pallbearers were members of Asberry Baptist Church.

Mrs. Hicks was a native and lifelong resident of Calhoun County. She was a member of Asberry Baptist Church and was active in community and civic affairs. She was preceded in death by her husband, R. E. Hicks; a son, LaFayette Hicks; and two daughters, Rovine Molasy and Louise Studdard.

She enjoyed sewing and cooking.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Lecil Newton Johnson

Services for Lecil Newton Johnson, 71, of 802 11th Ave. N. E., were Monday at 2 p.m. at Asberry Baptist Church, with the Revs. William Cain and Ricky Pollard officiating. Burial was in Green lawn Memorial Gardens, with K. L. Brown Funeral Home in charge.

Mr. Johnson died Saturday at Jacksonville Hospital.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Sarah Carpenter Johnson of Jacksonville; two daughters, Beverly Henderson and Sharlene Lockette, both of Jacksonville; a son, Kenneth L. Johnson of Sylacauga; a sister, Theresa McFall of Jacksonville; four brothers, Horace Johnson, Edsel Johnson and Guyron Johnson, all of Jacksonville, and Hollis Johnson of Ringgold, Ga.; six grandchildren, Andrea Lockette, Bryan Lockette, Craig Johnson, Erica Johnson Harwell, Lori Henderson and Amy Henderson; two great-grandchildren, Damian Rosser and Seth Harwell; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Bryan Lockette, Craig Johnson, Mark Johnson, Keith Johnson, Michael Johnson and Joey Johnson.

Mr. Johnson was a native and lifelong resident of Calhoun County and a member of Asberry Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the Korean War and was a retired brick mason. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Holder and Dean Townsend.

Frances D. Brown

07-20-2000

Services for Frances D. Brown, 71, of 520 Rocky Ridge Rd., were Saturday at 2 p.m. at Mickelsen-McGee Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Buddy Huddleston officiating. Burial was in Nances Creek Methodist Cemetery.

Mrs. Brown died Thursday at Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include her husband, George E. Brown of Jacksonville; four daughters, Ann Davis of White Plains, Pat Johnson of Pelham, Sue Brown and Katie Shepard, both of Jacksonville; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Grady Davis of Piedmont; and three sisters, Evelyn Houck, Era Mae Ponder and Faye Foley, all of Piedmont.

Pallbearers were nephews.

Mrs. Brown, a lifelong resident of the Hollingsworth community, enjoyed quilting. She had worked at Lawtex. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Vera Davis; a brother, Hoyt Davis, and a sister, Velma Bannister.

Charles H. Jennings

07-27-2000

Graveside services for Charles H. Jennings, 82, of Homewood were Friday at Elmwood Cemetery, with Dr. Ralph K. Bates officiating. Ridout’s Valley Chapel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Jennings died July 19.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Lenore Gorman Jennings; a daughter, Nancy L. Jennings of Jacksonville; a granddaughter, Katherine J. Schmitz of Greenville, S.C.; a grandson, Richard Schmitz of Riverdale, Md., and a nephew, Michael Burns (Rose) of Birmingham.

He served in the U. S. Army Air Force during World War II, worked as a volunteer at Baptist Medical Center Montclair for 13 years and was a member of First United Methodist Church Birmingham.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Birmingham Humane Society, 1713 Lomb Ave., Birmingham 35208.

Brooks Haynes Jr.
11-11-1998

Graveside services for Brooks Haynes Jr., 78, were Sunday at 2 p.m. in Anniston Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Gray Brown-Service Mortuary & Crematory was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Haynes died Thursday at his home.

Survivors include three sons, James Haynes of Jacksonville, Alvin Haynes of Ohatchee and David Haynes of Florida; three daughters, Rosemary Lipscomb of Alexandria, Sandra Prickett of Wellington and Angela Lett of Atlanta; five brothers, Alfred Haynes, Edward Lee Haynes, Chester Haynes and Vernon Haynes, all of Anniston, and William Haynes of Gadsden; three sisters, Jennie Mae Pinkard of Charleston, Tenn., Rosabell Dennis of Graham and Sally Argo of Blue Mountain; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Haynes was an Army veteran and retired from Anniston Army Depot. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Haynes of 50 years, and a daughter, Carol Ashley.

Terry Snyder
11-11-1998

Graveside services for Terry Snyder, 24, were Sunday at 3 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery in Talladega with Richard O’Connor officiating. K. L. Brown Funeral Home was in charge of services. Mr. Snyder died Thursday at his residence.

Survivors include his father, William H. Snyder of Jacksonville; his mother, Tei Snyder of Japan; and a sister, Tina Snyder Brooks of Fallon, Nev.

Pallbearers were Doug Hester, Keith Martin, Glen Brown, Ray Sewell, Patrick Sewell and Phil Gaskin. Mr. Snyder was a junior at Jacksonville State University and had lived in Jacksonville since 1987.
