Alabama, U.S., County Marriage Records, 1805-1967 - 1814-1935

Mr. J. Corbitt Lee, 85 of Ozark, died Saturday afternoon, July 19, 2003, in Dale Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday July 22, 2003, in Ozark Baptist Church with Reverend Greg Aman officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Visitation will be at the funeral home parlors from 5 p.m. Monday, until one hour prior to service time when it will be in the church. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Monday evening.
Mr. Lee was a member of the Ozark Masonic Lodge #349 for over,50 years, was the caretaker of Shiloh Cemetery in Clayhatchee for many years and was active in the Sons of the Confederate Veterans. He was elected to the Board of Deacons of Ridgecrest Baptist church in 1962.
Mr. Lee was preceded in death by his wife Mrs. Willie Frances Paramore Lee in 2002.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Judith and Bill Simpson, Conyers, Ga.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Eldred Lamar and Phyllis Lee, Ozark, Edwin L. and Cheryl Lee, Ohatchee; a sister Geraldine Baxley of Enterprise; a brother, Joseph I. Lee, of Mobile; seven grandchildren, Michelle Andrews and her husband, Bob, Ozark, Lamar Lee, Ozark, Jody Lee, Ozark, Vaughn Lee and his wife, Deann, Heflin, Heather Phillips and her husband, Shane, Ohatchee, Benjamin Simpson, Conyers, Ga., and Jeffrey Simpson, Conyers, Ga. Nine great-grandchildren also survive.

Mrs. Joanne P. Ford, 54 of Ozark, departed this life Saturday July 19, 2003, at Flowers Hospital in Dothan after extended complications from diabetes. Memorial services will be held at a later date. She was born May 22, 1949, in Manhattan, N.Y.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Margaret Payne. She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Johnny Ford; one son, Joseph and daughter Michele Ford; grandsons, Christopher Jonathan and Jakob Ford; two sisters, Evelyn Nehr, Peggy Payne; one brother Tommy Payne; nephew Joey Nation; great-niece, Tayler Nation; two very close and special friends, Becky Leach and Debbie Monk.

Mr. James Ernest Cooper, 46 of Ozark, Alabama; died Friday July 19, 2003.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2003, from Camp Ground Baptist Church with Rev. Al Sonanstine officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with full military rites, with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark directing. His body will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time. Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 tonight from the chapel of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home.
Mr. Cooper was retired from the Unites States Navy and was employed with DynCorp, Fort Rucker, Alabama.
His parents, Carl Denton Cooper Sr. and, Agnes Vigil Cooper, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby Doris Cooper of Ozark; one daughter, Ciara Marie Cooper of Ozark; one son, James Thomas Cooper of Ozark; two sisters, JoAnne Marie Cooper and Mary Elizabeth Gunter, both of Ozark; one brother, Carl D. Cooper jr. of Dothan.

Mrs. Carmen K. Morrison, 88 of Midland City died Saturday, July 19, 2003, at Flowers Hospital after a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Kent-Thornton Meadows Funeral Home. Officiating will be the Rev. James Rich. A private interment will be held immediately following the service at Memory Hill Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted. Other than scheduled visitation times, the family will be at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Clark Etheredge (1484 County Rd. 46, Midland City Ala.). Mrs. Morrison was born on June 23, 1915 in the Philippine Islands.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Edward Knight and Romona Manadic Knight.
As her later husband served in the U.S. Air Force, Mrs. Morrison worked on various military bases throughout the United States. She spent the later part of her life as a devoted mother and homemaker. Carmen was a member of Concord Baptist Church in Headland.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband of 61 years, Horrace A. Morrison, retired U.S.A.F.; son, John Wayne Morrison; and brother, Capt. Robert Knight, U.S. Army.
She is survived by two daughters, Diane Orrell and husband (Buck), Broken Arrow, Okla.., Charlene M. Etheredge and husband (Clark A.), Midland City; and one son, James J. Morrison, Montgomery; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Charlotte Mathis, Columbia, S.C.; and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Alma Pilot Jordan, 91 of Souwilpa, Ala., and a long-time resident of Ozark, died Thursday morning, July 17, 2003, in Spanish Fort, Ala..
Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday, July 19 at Ozark Baptist Church with the Rev. Greg Aman and the Rev. John Frank Lindsey officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memory Gardens. Friends are welcome to come by Holman Funeral Home to sign the guest book between 3 and 5 p.m. Friday. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Ozark Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ozark Baptist Church, 282 S. Union Ave., Ozark, Ala.36360.
Mrs. Jordan was a graduate of Silas High School in Choctaw County and Livingston State Teachers College, now The University of West Alabama.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Haskell Clayton "Hack" Jordan.
Survivors include one son, Donald Ray Jordan of Mobile; two grandchildren, Don Jordan and his wife, Katie, of Mobile, Tessa Baehr and her husband, Chris, of Daphne; and three great-granddaughters.

Mr. Darries Crittenden Jr., 62 and a resident of Ozark died Tuesday, July 15, 2003, at Ozark Nursing Facility in Ozark.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday July 19 at St. Mark A.M.E. Zion Church on Liberty Avenue, Ozark, with pastor the Rev. Leon Cammack officiating. Burial will be at Old Zion Cemetery in Ozark.
Trawick Funeral Home of Ozark, 334-774-8374, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Victor P. Taylor, 82 of Ozark, died early Sunday morning, July 13, 2003, in a Dothan Hospital.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2003 from the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joe Reams, the Rev. Marty Hamilton and the Rev. Dr. Billy D. Gaither officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Memorial Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Visitation will be at the funeral home parlors with the family receiving friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday evening.
Mr. Taylor was a native of Geneva, Ala., and a 1941 graduate of Dothan High School where he was a cheerleader. He was known in High School as the "Jitterbug King." During WW II he served with the U.S. Post Office and was later associated with his father in Walden-Taylor Motor Company Ford Dealership in Ozark. He attended management schools at Ford Headquarters, Dearborn, Mich., and at Holiday Inns Headquarters, Memphis, Tenn.
He was Innkeeper and Manager of the Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Restaurant in Ozark. He worked for many years with Garrett Furniture Company in Ozark, and later was Food Service Director with The Ozark Nursing Facility. He was a member since 1940 of the First United Methodist Church of Ozark and a charter member of the John Wesley Sunday School class. He was a member and past president of the Ozark Kiwanis Club where he worked on many charitable and
fundraising activities including the Kiwanis Clubs Boys and Girls summer camps. He has served as president of the Westview Memorial Cemetery Association since its inception.
He was preceded in death by his parents, V. P. "Pat" and Josephine Taylor of Ozark.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Martha Mullins Taylor, Ozark; son and daughter-in-law, Hugh M. and Karen Taylor, Ozark; three grandchildren, Lauren Taylor, Ozark, Kristen and her husband Chris Fuller, Auburn, Michelle and her husband Jim Bradley, Cuthbert, Ga.; his special friend, Mr. David Johnson; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the John Wesley Sunday School Class. Flowers or memorials will be accepted to the Westview Memorial Cemetery Fund, c/o Thomas Parker, 533 Country Club Drive, Ozark, Ala., 36360.

Mr. Lewie Frank Snellgrove, 96 of Ozark, died Sunday morning, July 13, 2003, in the Dale Medical Center.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2003, from the Ridgecrest Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Hill officiating. Interment will follow in the Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Visitation will be at the funeral home parlors from 5 p.m. Monday, with the family-receiving friends until 7 p.m. Monday evening.
Mr. Snellgrove was a native of Coffee County having grown up in the Longstreet community of Dale County. He worked with Civil Service at Camp Rucker until its closing, then 12 years with the Ozark Fire Department. He then worked with Hays Aircraft at Napier Field until his retirement as a fireman in 1969. He was a charter member of the Ridgecrest Baptist Church. Mr. Snellgrove received his 50-year membership pin from the Ozark Masonic Lodge #349 in 2000 and was a member of the Kolb Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star.
His Son, Don Snellgrove, a brother, Royce Snellgrove of Enterprise, a sister, Sara Tillman of Brundidge, and a granddaughter Paige Byrd of Ozark, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of 76 years, Gladys Wynn Snellgrove, Ozark; daughter and son-in-law, Geraldine and Mixson Byrd, Ozark; brother, Charles L. Snellgrove, Jr., Ozark; grandchildren, Tim and Sherry Byrd, Marcie Holmes, Michelle and Tim Baker, Mitchell Snellgrove, and Michael Snellgrove; great-grandchildren Karmon Sellers, Dustin Byrd, Hannah Ledbetter, Natalie Byrd and Brandi Snellgrove.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be sent to the Ridgecrest Baptist Church Building Fund, 1971 Deese Road, Ozark, Ala., 36360.

Mr. Franklin McMillan, 86 of Ozark, died Saturday night, July 12, 2003, in the Ozark Nursing Home following a long illness.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday from the Chapel of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home with the Rev Roger Campbell officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memory Gardens with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday from the funeral home chapel.
Mr. McMillan was born in Crenshaw County, Ala., Oct. 19, 1916; the son of the late G.O. and Julia Jowers McMillan. He farmed in Pike County, Ala., for many years then worked for various paper mills in Mississippi and Louisiana. He was a member Calvary Baptist Church in Troy, Ala. He moved to Ozark in 1995 to live with his daughter.
Survivors include: nine daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Mike Loucks of Montgomery, Ala., Margaret and Thomas Carr of Ariton, Ala., Myrtle and Jimmy Record of Ozark, Frances Bergens of Holt, Fla., Nelda Carr of Brundidge, Ala., Linda and Thomas Griswold of Banks, Ala., Mildred and Jimmy Norris of Parrish, Fla., Mona and Joey Bradley of Troy Ala., Darlene and Willie Kilpatrick of Troy, Ala.; four sons, David and Pat McMillan of Troy, Ala., Clyde and Margaret McMillan of Brundidge Ala., Roy and Myra McMillan of Ozark, Ala., Roger and Brenda McMillon of Troy, Ala.; one sister, Nell Newman of Troy Ala.; 70 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren also survive.

Mr. Judge (Paw) Payne, 80 of Newton, Ala., died at his residence Saturday, July 12, 2003, following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday from the chapel of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home with the Rev. Wallace Duke and the Rev. Larry Sweat officiating. Burial will be in Newton City Cemetery with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday from the chapel of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Grover Cleveland and Nettie Mae Key Payne; a brother, Manney Payne.
He was a member of the Newton Baptist Church, a veteran of World War II, and retired from the United States Postal Service after 25 years of service. Native and lifelong resident of Dale County, Ala. He loved to fish and camp.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mrs. Mary Francis Payne of Newton, Ala.; one son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Laurie Payne of Dothan; one daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Michael Childree of Newton; two sisters, Myrtle Baker of Skipperville, Ala., and Bobbie York of Jackson, Ga.; four grandchildren and their wives, Scotty and Kerri Payne, Jodie and Randall Parker, Lee Childree and Ashley and Jennifer Childree; four great-grandchildren, Preston Payne, Bradley Parker, Jada Payne and Kaylee Childree also survive.

Mrs. Gladys Thomley Hubbard, 89 and a resident of Oakview Manor Health Care Center in Ozark, died Wednesday July 9, 2003, after an extended illness.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 12 at Pilgrims Home Baptist Church with the Rev. Buddy Hood officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to services.

Mr. Marvell McLain, 64 of Ariton, died Thursday July 10, 2003, at his residence.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Sunday July 13 at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Ariton. Burial will be at Travelers Rest Cemetery in Ozark with the Rev. L.A. Bonds, pastor, officiating.

Mrs. Eva "Era" Turner, a resident of Ozark, died Friday, July 4, 2003, at her residence.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. today at the funeral home. The graveside services will be 2 p.m. today, July 8, 2003, at the Summerhill Cemetery in Daleville with Bishop Carl McCombs officiating.

Mr. Christopher McKnight, 20 of Ozark, died Thursday July 3, 2003 at Flowers Hospital in Dothan.
The funeral will be graveside services held at 2 p.m., Sunday July 6, 2003, at the Providence Cemetery in Clayhatchee with Rev. John W. Padgett officiating. Burial will follow in Providence Cemetery with Searcy Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Saturday, July 5, 2003, at the funeral home.
Surviving are his mother and stepfather Phyllis and Mickey Revels, Daleville; father; Danny McKnight, Ozark; maternal grandmother; Ouida Mooney, Wicksburg; paternal grandparents; James and Mirriam McKnight, Elba; Lula Dease Midland City; step-grandmother; Dale Moore, Daleville; great-grandmother; Bobbie Hartzog, Dothan; four stepsisters; Dawn Morvan, Daleville; Tonnya White, St. Pete Beach; Rachel Revels, La.; Sharinon Moffett League City, Texas; three brothers; Jonathan
McKnight, Daleville; Bobby Donaldson, Bonifay Fla.; Justin McKnight, Midland City; two stepbrothers; Mickey Revels Jr., Ms.; Carl Revels, Ms.; Christopher is also survived by several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Mr. James O. Ziglar, 93 of Highway 51, Ariton, died July 3 2003, Thursday in Dale Medical Center.
Funeral services will beheld at 11 a.m. Saturday from the Rocky Head Baptist Church with Rev. Ron Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark directing. His body will be placed in the church at 10 am. Family will receive friends from 10 until service time.
The family asks that flowers be omitted and memorial contributions be given to the Mt. Olive Cemetery Fund or to Rocky Head Baptist Church.
Mr. Ziglar was a native and life long resident of Dale County Alabama. During World War II, Mr. Ziglar was employed with the United States Post Office at Fort Rucker. He loved saw-milling and for many years this was his occupation. He attended Rocky Head Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by a son; Bobby Joe Ziglar, Parents; J.W. and Lillie Fain Ziglar.
He is survived by his wife, Myrtle Ziglar of Ariton; three daughters and sons-in-law: Mary Ann Tatum, Nell Moore and husband Bill all of Crawfordville, Fla. Shan Willoughby and husband Jimmy of Ariton; one sister, Ruth Weed and husband Arlis of Ozark; one brother, Thomas Ziglar and wife Betty of Roanoke; 13 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
