Mrs. Ernestine Lorraine McSween Perdue, 86, formerly of Route 2, Newton, passed away quietly in her sleep at her home in Dandridge, Tenn., at 4 a.m. on Tuesday, June 29, 2004, following. a four-year battle with congestive heart failure, diabetes and high blood pressure.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 3, 2004, in the chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark with the Rev. Arthur Beasley and the Rev. Alvin Skipper officiating. Mrs. Perdue will be laid to rest next to her parents in Westview Memorial Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. tonight at Holman Funeral Home in Ozark, and also one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
Mrs. Perdue was born on June 10, 1918, in Eufaula, Ala. She was the daughter of James Malcolm McSween and Bertie Lee Stephens MeSween.
Mrs. Perdue resided about 60 years of her life in Newton where she graduated from Newton High School and was a member of Newton Baptist Church. She worked at Fort Rucker during World War II as a dental technician and in the late 1940s in the State of Alabama Governor's Office and the State of Alabama Health Department. During her brief residence in Montgomery during the late 1940's she met and married her late husband, Joseph Herman ' Perdue Jr. Joe was the son of Joseph Herman Perdue and Janie Levette Tillery of West Oakland Avenue, Montgomery. Joe, a former Marine, worked for the Montgomery Fire Department and as a medical technician with the Veterans Administration. Mr. and Mrs. Perdue had one son, James Herman Perdue, who was born on Nov. 14, 1947. Mrs. Perdue's husband was killed in a traffic accident while on duty on July l5th, 1949, and was buried in Green wood Cemetery in Montgomery Ala.
In 1950, Mrs. Perdue returned to Newton Ala. to be near her parents. Mrs. Perdue lived most of her life on the McSween family farm near the Five Points community, where she raised her son, James Herman. She had an extensive network of family and friends. She never met a stranger, each person was family to her. She was an active volunteer in the communities of Newton, Montgomery, and Ozark, where she was an avid supporter of her son at Carroll High School. She most recently lived with her son and his wife in Etowah, N.C., and in Dandridge, Tenn., respectively.
Survivors include her son, James Herman Perdue and his wife, Linda Irene Roetman, Dandridge, Tenn.; her younger sister, Melba Ellen McSween "Beasley" Dickson and her husband, Herbert Dickson, Sumter, S.C.; her niece, Lynda B. Chaplin and her family, Foster City, Calif., her nephew, the Rev. Arthur B. Beasley and his wife, Sandra, and their family, Winchester, Ky. She is also survived by her many dear friends and family across the South with whom she corresponded regularly, even on her final day.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Morris Animal Foundation, 45 Inverness Drive East, Englewood, CO 80112-5480.

Mrs. Nancy Batchelor Snell, of Pinckard, died Sunday, June 27, 2004, at her home.
A memorial service will be held for Mrs. Snell at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 3, 2004, in Pinckard Baptist Church with the Rev. Ed Onley officiating. Interment will be on Friday at Pinckard Memorial Cemetery, a private service for family members with the Rev. Jody Haddan officiating, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will be receiving visitors at 154 Snell Street., Pinckard, today from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and in the fellowship hall of Pinckard Baptist Church immediately following the memorial. service on Saturday.
Mrs. Snell was born April 12, 1941, to the late John and Ida Batchelor of Oswego, N.Y. When she was seven the family moved to Cantonment, Fla. In 1973 the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention appointed her a missionary to Trinidad and Tobago. She faithfully served there, in other Caribbean islands, in Bermuda, and in Brazil until her disability in 2000 when she returned to Pinckard. During the past three years she served her Lord as organist and Sunday School teacher at the Pinckard Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Donald B. Snell, Pinckard; two sons and daughters-in-law, D. Mark Snell and Stephanie, Boston Mass., and Nathan R. Snell and Melissa, Mooresville, N.C.; one daughter and son-in-law, Lydia S. Barron and Jonathan, Pinckard; six granddaughters, Olivia Snell Boston, Hannah, Lydia and Caroline Snell, Mooresville, and Rachel and Deborah Barron, Pinckard; one brother and sister-in-law, John and Iris Batchelor,. Loachapoka, Ala.; one sister and brother-in-law; Ruth and Ronnie McAllister, North Augusta, S.C.; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jack and Jalane Snell, Pinckard.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Hunger Relief of the International Mission Board, Southern Baptist Convention, C/O Pinckard Baptist Church, AL 36371.
"Christ has made death glorious and triumphant. For through its portals we enter into the presence of the living God."

Carol Ann Bennington-Kiel, 65 of Enterprise, formerly of Ozark, died Sunday, June 27, 2004, at her home in Enterprise.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday June 30, 2004, at St. John Catholic Church with Father Jim Dane officiating. Ms. Bennington-Kiel was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Elsie Bennington and an infant brother.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Day Spring Hospice, 201 W. Lee Street, Enterprise, AL, 36330.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Jackie and Ricky Newsome, Enterprise; Michelle and Robert Bland, Enterprise; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Jennifer Kiel, Bellwood; Greg and Deborah Kiel, Ozark; Michael and Denise Kiel, Enterprise; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Charlotte Olson, Ozark; Diane and Donnie Svacina, Reedsville, Wis.; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Mildred Peters Wallace, 85 of the Post Oak Community, Ala., died Friday evening, June 25, 2004, in Ozark Health and Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, June 28, 2004, at Post Oak Baptist Church with the Rev. Ed Peters and the Rev. Donald Moore officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at host Oak Baptist Church from 10 a.m. Monday until service time at 11 a.m. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 1124 County Road 11, Ozark, AL, 36360.
Mrs. Wallace was a native and life-long resident of Dale County, Ala. and a lifetime member of Post Oak Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alma Carroll Peters and James Lee Peters; her husband, Marion A. (Bud) Wallace; and her son, Marion Wallace.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara Wallace Scott and her husband, Dean, Ozark, Ala.; one daughter-in-law, Betty Wallace, Ozark, Ala.; one sister-in-law, Donna Peters, Salt Lake City; one brother and sister-in-law, Ed Peters and his wife, Annette, Ozark, Ala.; three grandchildren, Lee Scott, Jennifer Wallace, Rob Wallace and his wife, Jennifer; one great grandson, Phillip Wallace; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Her nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Mr. Ira Clay Crowder, 65 of Ozark, Ala., died Thursday evening, June 24, 2004, at his home following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, June 27, 2004, at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev. O'Neal Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends at Holman Funeral Home in Ozark from 6 until 8 tonight. Mr. Crowder's body will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time on Sunday.
Mr. Crowder was born Dec. 8, 1938 in Bessemer, Ala. Mr. Crowder entered the United States Army in 1957, served one tour in Vietnam, and retired as a Staff Sergeant following 20 years of service. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal Vietnam Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal (5th Award), two Overseas Bars, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross, German Bronze Marksmanship Badge, German Silver Marksmanship Badge, and Army Commendation Medal.
He was a member of the Amateur Radio Club and an avid ham radio operator since 1963. He was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, President of the Methodist Men's Club, and operated the Church sound system for several years. Mr. Crowder also retired from DynCorp following 20 years, where he worked in avionics. He enjoyed Alabama Football, spending time using the computer, and NASCAR Racing. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Betty Sue Crowder Ozark, Ala.; one daughter, Tina Peterson, Milbrook, Ala.; two sons James Crowder and his wife, Becky, Columbus, Ga. and Michael Crowder, Cary, N.C.; four grandchildren, Dylan Peterson, Carter Peterson, Michael Gilder, and Chris Gilder.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, c/o Miss Shirley Chancey 4399 East Andrews Ave., Ozark, AL, 36360; to Wiregrass Hospice, 1970 East Andrews Ave., Ozark, AL, 36360; or to Montgomery Cancer Wellness Foundation, 4145 Carmichael Road, Montgomery AL, 36106.

Mrs. Bertie Clyde Free Tharpe, age 76, died Thursday June 24, 2004.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday June 26, 2004, from Post Oak Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Post Oak Baptist Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home. Mrs. Tharpe's body will lie-in-state at the church one hour prior to service time.
Mrs. Tharpe was born and raised in Dale County, Ala. She was a member of Post Oak Baptist Church. Mrs. Tharpe was employed for 39 years at Van Heusen.
Survivors include husband of 57 years, Leemon "Dick" Tharpe, of Ozark, Ala.; two daughters and a son-in-law Robbie Lynn Eldridge of Montgomery, Ala., and Sandra F. and Warde Deal of Birmingham, Ala.; one sister, Velma Franks, of Ozark; two grandchildren, Christopher D. Eldridge and Brian T. Eldridge, both of Montgomery, Ala; and one great-grandchild, Gabriel K. Eldridge.

Mr. Theodore Blackburn Sr., 69 of Ozark, Ala., passed away Wednesday, June 23, 2004, at Dale Medical Center in Ozark.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, June, 26, 2004, at Ewell Bible Baptist Church with the Rev. David Lewis officiating. Interment will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Dothan. The family will receive friends at Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home from 6 to 8 tonight and Saturday at the church one hour prior to service time. The family request that memorial contributions be made to Ewell Bible Baptist Church, 64 Susie St., Ozark, AL 36360.
Mr. Blackburn moved to Ozark from Ohio in 1981. He was self employed in the refrigeration and air conditioning business and worked for 10 years with the Ozark Housing Authority. He also served in the U.S. Army and was a member of Ewell Bible Baptist Church.
Surviving family include his wife, DeLane Snell Blackburn of Ozark, Ala.; daughter, Barbara Blackburn of Skipperville, Ala.; sons and daughters-in-law, John and Tammy Blackburn of Skipperville, Ala., Ted and Tabitha Blackburn of Skipperville, Ala., James and Pat Blackburn of Ozark, Ala.; sisters, Helen Mueller, Ruth Moore, Donna Roll, Barbara Jean Snetzer, all of Ohio; one brother, Buddy Blackburn, also of Ohio; 10 grandchildren, Jason Shannon, Staice, Joshua, Nicholas,
Bradley, Amber, Angela, Katie, Bo; and tw,o great-grandchildren, Rebecca and Chelsie.

Mrs. Bessie Foy Willoughby, 85 of Ariton, Ala., (Rocky Head Community), passed away Monday, June 21, 2004, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, June 24, 2004, at Rocky Head Baptist Church in Ariton with the Revs. Ron Jackson and Joe Underwood officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 tonight and Thursday at the church one hour prior to service time.
Mrs. Willoughby was born Aug. 19, 1918, in Coffee County, the daughter of the late Alvie and Willie (Brewer) Hyatt. She was a member of Rocky Head Baptist Church and longtime resident of Ariton (Rocky Head).
Surviving family include daughters and sons-in-law, Aster and David Garrett of Tampa, Fla., and Janice and Bill Sullivan of Ariton, Ala. (Rocky Head); brothers, Emmett Hyatt, Herbert Hyatt, and Jimmy Hyatt; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Alma Beck Wimberley, 79 of Ozark, died Monday June 14, 2004, in Dale Medical Center following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 16, 2004, in Holman Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Harold Morris officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens with Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at Holman Funeral Home in Ozark from 6 until 8 tonight.
Mrs. Wimberley was born Aug. 3, 1924, in North Carolina. She lived in various places with her husband while he served in the United States Army. She has made her home in Ozark since 1967 and attended Southside Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Wimberley, in 1992.
Survivors include one daughter, Phyllis Wimberley Broome, Ozark; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Gary and Teresa Wimberley, Newton, Timmy Wimberley, Fayetteville, N.C., and Jimmy and Audrey Wimberley, Houston, Texas; one sister and brother-in-law, Lottie and Donald Blackwell, Fayetteville, N.C.; eight grandchildren, Tiffany Long, Jessica Wimberley, Gary Wayne Wimberley Jr., Shannon Oglesby, Matthew Wimberley, Shannon Wimberley, Lelani Webber, and Ashley Wimberley; six great-grandchildren, Hunter Oglesby, MacKenzie Hicks, Jake Oglesby, Logan Pollard, Gracie Long, and Melia Webber.

Mrs. Virgie Paramore Walker, 94 of Ozark, Ala., died Monday, June 14, 2004, in Ozark Health and Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 17, 2004, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark with the Rev. Kenneth Andrews and the Rev. Robert Hamilton officiating. Interment will follow in Southside Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Holman Funeral Home in Ozark from 6 until 8 tonight. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Wiregrass Hospice, 1970 East Andrews Avenue, Ozark, AL, 36360 or to Southside Baptist
Church Building Fund, 902 South Hwy 123, Ozark, AL, 36360.
Mrs. Walker was a native the Paramore Crossroads Community of Dale County, Ala. where she lived during her younger years. She then lived in the Southside Baptist Church Community the remainder of her life. She was a Charter Member of Southside Baptist Church and a Sunday school teacher. Mrs. Walker enjoyed sewing, quilting, cooking, and gardening.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Annie Ezell Paramore and Jody Paramore; her husband, Harry A. Walker in 1981; two sisters, Jessie Merle Chancey and Willie Frances Lee; and one brother, J. B. Paramore.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Joann and Charles Danner, Abbeville, Ala.; two grandchildren, Dora Ann Johnson and her husband, Brian; their children, Morgan and Parker, Oakwood, Ga., Tommy Danner and his children, Chelsea, Colby and Chloe, Dothan two sisters, Annie Pearl Goodson, Ocala, Fla. and Dorothy Lisenby Newark, Ohio; one brother, Luther Paramore, Birmingham, Ala.

Mr. Lawrence C. "Curt" Hagler, 66 of Ozark, Ala., died Friday, June 11, 2004, at Oakview Manor.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday June 14, 2004, from Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Chapel with Dr. Donald Hagler officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens.
Mr. Hagler was born in Barbour County Ala. and lived in Dale County Ala. until entering the U.S. Army where he then relocated to Manchester Conn. for 20 years before returning to Ozark. Mr. Hagler retired from Van Huesen.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ervin E. and Carrie V. Hagler and one brother, Arthur Hagler.
Survivors include wife, Marilyn Hagler, of Ozark, Ala.; two daughters, Alicia J. Hagler (Fred) Wood and : Carrie A. Hagler (Kenneth "Buddy") Thomas, all of Ozark, Ala.; one son, Lawrence Curtis Hagler Jr. and Lisa Lane of Ozark, Ala.; grandchildren, Rebecca Lynn Wood, Andrew Porter Wood, Anna Nichol Thomas, Cody Wayne Thomas, Johnathan Lawrence Thomas, Kristy Lane, and Marshall Lane; sisters, Edna Roberts of Skipperville, Ala., Luvenia Bludsworth of Elba, Ala., Ann Woods of Ozark, Ala., Ruby Strickland of Enterprise, Ala., Christine Carr of Ozark, Ala.; and brothers, James Hagler of Santa Rosa, Calif., Comer Hagler of Clio, Ala., Collie Hagler of Elba, Ala., Fred Hagler of Ozark, Ala., Douglas Hagler of Jewette, Texas, George Hagler of Newton, Ala.

Mrs. Mattie Hall, 86 of East College Street, Ozark, Ala. died Saturday morning June 5, 2004, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Monday June 7 2004, from the chapel of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home in Ozark, Ala. with Bro. Charlie Katzenbach officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Hall who passed away in March of 1998.
Surviving family include daughters, Dorothy Cooper, Pine Bluff, Ark., Joann Hartzog (Hayward) Deatsville, Ala., Betty Smith, Ozark, Ala., Sherry Whitman, Enterprise, Ala., Jennifer Riley (Ron), Ozark, Ala.; son, Leon Miller (Betsy), Kansas City, Kan.; special caregiver, Anita Bowen Ozark, Ala.; 16 Grandchildren; numerous great- grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Paul Franklin Jensen, 71 of Ozark Nursing Home, died there Thursday, June 3, 2004.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 5, 2004, at First Assembly of God Church in Ozark, Ala., with the Rev. Jim Smith, the Rev. Greg Doss and the Rev. Farrell Boyd officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Saturday.
Mr. Jensen was born November 22, 1932, in Tomah, Wis., and lived the early years of his life there. He was employed with G. Pierce Wood Memorial Hospital in Arcadia, Fla., for 21 years prior to his retirement in 1989.
On July 22, 1990 he was married to Carol Dumond and in 1997 they moved to Ozark where he resided the remainder of his life. Mr. Jensen was of the Assembly of God faith.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Jensen, Ozark; three sons, Mike Jensen, Clayhatchee Phillip Jensen Clayhatchee and Bruce Jensen, Fairhope; a daughter, Penny Gillian, Fairhope; eight grandchildren; three brothers, John Jensen and Dewayne Jensen, both of Tomah, Wisconsin, Joe Jensen, Missouri; two sisters Mary and Joan.
Byrd Funeral Home of Dothan, 334-793-3003, is in charge of arrangements.
