Velma Bertha Lee Cook

Funeral for Velma Bertha Lee Cook was held Tuesday, April 29, 2 p. m., at Union Hill Baptist Church with the Revs. Steve Hood and Edward Hood officiating.

Burial was in the Union Hill Cemetery with Elliott Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Cook died Saturday, April 26, 1997, at Decatur General Hospital.

She was born in Lawrence County to James Thomas Hall and Sarah Ferguson Hall. Mrs. Cook was a member of Union Hill Baptist.

She is survived by one son, Robert Cook of Tuscaloosa; three daughters, Martha Faye Dawson of Town Creek, Patsy Montgomery of Decatur and Pamelia Folz of Delaware; one brother, Clyde Hall of Decatur; one half brother, Jessie Hall of Decatur; one half sister, Octiva Barnes of Decatur; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Larry Dawson, Keith Cameron, Anthony Whitworth, Howard McCreary, Warren Thrasher and James Montgomery.

James Edward Liles

39, laborer, Killen

Funeral for James Edward Liles was held Saturday, April 26, 11 a. m., at Elliott Funeral Home chapel with Carl Johnson Officiating.

Burial was in the Elmwood Cemetery.

Mr. Liles died Wednesday, April 23, 1997, in an automobile accident.

He was born in Lawrence County to the late J. C. and Jewell Goins Liles.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Liles of Town Creek; four daughters, Shalanda Cox, Sarah Liles and Heather Liles, all of Town Creek and Jessica Kelly of Decatur; one son, Adam Liles of Town Creek; four sisters, Brenda Watkins and Shanda Pugh both of Killen, Billie Jo Liles of Sheffield and Margie Crowden of Leighton; a half sister, Nettie Mae Calvert of Summertown, Tenn.; four brothers, Buddy Liles and Wayne Liles of Cullman and Bobby Jo Liles of Courtland; a half brother, E. B. Liles of Lawrenceburg, Tenn.; three grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Shannon Liles, Shane Liles, Heath Watkins, Michael Watkins, Bruce Cartee and Jeremy Watkins.

Paul Kilgore

70, retired fire chief, Decatur

A graveside service was held for Paul Kilgore, who died Saturday, May 3, 1997, at Decatur General Hospital, on Monday, May 5, the 11 a.m. service was held at Decatur City Cemetery and was officiated by Rev. Howell Deab Eddy and directed by Shelton Funeral Home.

He was born in Morgan County to Elmer and Ida Kilgore. Chief Kilgore was retired from City of Decatur Fire Department after 52 years of service. He served as chief for 13 years.

Survivors include his wife, Beaulah Kilgore; two sons, Bill Green of Trinity and Dennis Green of Decatur; two daughters, Janie Speegle of Moulton and Wanda Carrell of Madison; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Don Mills, Sam Kirby, Danny Little, H. M. Henderson, James Lott and Howell Dean Eddy.

Herman Roy Flannagin

72, Moulton

Funeral for Herman Roy Flannagin was held Monday, May 5, 2 p.m., at Pine Grove Holy Church of Christ with Brother Keith Prince and Brother Wallace Fuller officiating.

Burial was in Heflin Cemetery with Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Flannagin died Saturday, May 3, 1997, at National Healthcare in Moulton.

He was born in Lawrence County to Arthur and Mary Flannagin and was a member of Faith Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Herman Flannagin Jr. and Joseph Flannagin, both of Sanford, Fla.; four daughters, Barbara Flannagin, Mary Manley and Elaine Heap, all of Sanford and Patricia Wright of Harlem, Ga.; four brothers, Elverett Flannagin and Clarence Flannagin, both of Decatur, R. C. Flannagin of Trinity and Junior Flannagin of Moulton; seven sisters, Mavene Hood, Myrtle Montgomery and Annie Millwood, all of Moulton, Louise Millwood of Trinity, Lucille Williams, Zadie Mae O'Dell and Mammie Bracken, all of Decatur; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Benford Millwood, Timothy Flannagin, Donald Hood, Richey Flannagin, Quinton Tucker and Steve Millwood.

Ruby Terry

91, Courtland

Ruby Terry died Wednesday, April 30, 1997, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center.

The funeral was held Friday, May 2, 2 p.m., at Courtland United Methodist Church with the Revs. Ernest Dillard and James Long officiating.

Burial was in Blackground Cemetery with Rideout's-Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Terry was born in Lawrence County. She was a lifelong member of the Courtland United Methodist Church. Mrs. Terry was a former employee of Western Michigan University in the nutrition center.

Survivors include one daughter, Willie Mae Davis of Courtland; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Joe Davis

96, Hillsboro

A graveside service was held for Joe Davis on Saturday, May 3, 11 a.m., at Owens Cemetery on Alabama 33 in Courtland with the Rev. Kenneth Owens officiating and Reynolds Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Davis died Wednwsday, April 30, 1997, at Parkway Medical Center Hospital.

He was born in Lawrence County and was a member of First Baptist Church of Hillsboro.

Survivors include grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Frances Justice McCaghren

78, retired, Decatur

A memorial service was held for Frances Justice McCaghren Sunday, may 4, 2 p.m., at Roselawn Funeral Home chapel with Lamar Plunket officiating.

Mrs. McCaghren died Tuesday, April 29, 1997, in Decatur.

She was born in Alabama and was retired from the State of Alabama Board of Cosmetology.

Survivors include a daughter, Pearl Bryam of Milbrook; two sons, Jerry McCaghren of Trinity and Tommy McCaghren of Eva; two sisters, Margrete McCay of Sheffield and Dorothy Crew of Rockford; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Memorial may be, made to Hospice of the Valley, P.O. Box 2745, Decatur, AL., 35602.

James Edward McCormick

82, retired farmer, Danville

Funeral for James Edward McCormick was held Saturday, May 3, 2 p.m., at Enon Baptist Church with Johnny Huey, C. G. Redding and Chris Goode officiating.

Burial was in the Enon Baptist Cemetery with Parkway Funeral Home directing.

Mr. McCormick died Thursday, May 1, 1997, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center.

He was born in Lawrence County to Will and Hattie McCormick. Mr. McCormick was also retired from Baker Wood Reels.

Survivors include his wife, Mae Rooks McCormicks; one son, Gerald Rooks of Danville; his brother, Marvin McCormick of Danville; two sisters, Minnie Hembree of Danville and Zell Spots of Michigan; three grandchildren; and one step-grandchild.

Pallbearers were Kenny McCormick, Jason McCormick, Jeremy McCormick, Brock Rooks, Roy Lance Jr. and Mark Stewart.

Fred Ervin Borden

85, retired milk truck driver, Moulton

Funeral for Fred Ervin Borden, who died Monday, April 28, 1997, at Birmingham Baptist Medical Center-Princeton, was held Wednesday, April 30, 2 p.m., Pleasant Hill Church No. 2 with the Revs. Kenny Rodgers and Rickey Moody officiating.

Burial was in the adjoining cemetery with Elliott Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Borden was born in Lawrence County.

He is survived by four sons, James R. Borden of Double Springs, Jack T. Borden of Jasper, A. J. Borden of Moulton and Johnny Borden of Haleyville; three daughters, Christine Parker, Shirley Burns and Linda Robinson all of Moulton; two brothers, Enoch Borden of Town Creek and Raymond Borden of Moulton; two sisters, Shelly Parker and Adaline Nolen, both of Moulton; 18 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
