Alabama, U.S., County Marriage Records, 1805-1967 - 1814-1935

Cornelia Bell

CONYERS, Ga. - Cornelia "Connie" Bell, a retired Fort MacPherson payroll clerk, died Monday in Conyers. She was 89.

Mrs. Bell, who resided in Conyers, was a native of Mobile. She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Conyers.

Survivors include her husband, Raymond E. "Ray" Bell Sr. of Conyers; two stepsons, Raymond E. Bell Jr. and Malra C. Bell; and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 Thursday evening at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street. Services are set for 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with burial at Catholic Cemetery.

Charles Collins

FLINT, Mich. - Charles Collins, a native of Plateau and a longtime resident of Flint, died Monday at his home. He was 74.

Collins, affectionately known as "Billbo" to family and friends, attended Mobile County Training School. He was retired from General Motors.

Survivors include his children; a brother; several sisters; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Swanson Funeral Home in Flint will announce arrangements.

ELOISE LASSITTER TYREE

McCULLOUGH - Eloise Lassitter Tyree, 64, died Monday, Nov. 15, 1999, in McCullough. She had been a resident of the community for 48 years and attended the Gospel Light Church there.

Mrs. Tyree had been an employee of Vanity Fair for 37 years and a homemaker after retirement.

Survivors include her husband, V.L. "Snooks" Tyree of McCullough; two sons, Edward "Shorty" Tyree and Eugene Tyree, both of Atmore; two daughters, Annice Barnhill of Phillipsville and Pam Ridlehoover of Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland; a brother, Jesse Lassitter of Milton; four sisters, Jewel Belise of Milton, Jean Steele and Georgia Owens, both of Pensacola, and Hilda Booth of Mobile; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. today at Gospel Light Church. The Rev. Martin Gehman will officiate and burial will follow in McCullough Cemetery.

Atmore Memorial Chapel Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Gloria Hughes

Gloria Mae Jones Hughes, a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Prichard, died Tuesday - four days before her 78th birthday.

Mrs. Hughes was a native of St. Louis and a resident of Mobile.

Survivors include 12 children, Rita Hughes Rembert, Marsha Bell, Johnnie Mae Wells, Preston Williams, Cathy Hughes Wells and Octavia Bell, all of Mobile, Lottie Ann Hughes of Fort Valley, Ga., Inez Neal of Highland, Calif., Diane L. Wright of Italy, Gloria E. Truesdale, Moses L. Hughes and Nancy A. White, all of Rock Hill, S.C.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be after 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 2934 St. Stephens Road, with the rosary recited at 11:30 a.m. and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at noon. Burial will be in Casher Cemetery, with Christian Benevolent Funeral Home handling arrangements.

Quinton O. Phillips

Quinton O'Neal Phillips, a freshman at Davidson High School, died Monday in Mobile after a battle with cancer. He was 15.

Phillips was native and resident of Mobile. He was a member of Word of Life Community Church and had been active with Operation Mobile Sidewalk Sunday School.

Survivors include his mother, Annie Pearl Phillips of Mobile; his father, Henry O'Neal Gibby Sr.; and his grandparents, Henry and Hattie Gibby, all of Barlow Bend, Ala.; his great-grandmother, Hattie Phillips of Camden, Ala.; a brother, Marvin Phillips of Fort Stewart, Ga.; a stepbrother, Henry O. Gibby Jr. of Barlow Bend; two stepsisters, Lashunda R. Gibby of Barlow Bend and Alecia Marie Shelton of Vista, Calif.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Andrews Funeral Home in Jackson, Ala. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cedar Fork Baptist Church in Suggsville, Ala., with viewing at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Annie M. Poole

SPRING HILL, Fla. - Annie M. Poole, a former resident of Choctaw County and resident of Spring Hill, died Sunday at her home. She was 97.

Mrs. Poole, a native of Cuba, Ala., was a former nurse.

Survivors include four sons, Conde R. Smith of Summerville, S.C., Rodney M. Smith of Los Alemedes, Calif., Asa F. Whitfield of Douglas, Ga., and James Kenneth Allen of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a daughter, Frances S. Hastings of Lizella, Ga.; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services are set for 11 a.m. today at Bumpers Funeral Home in Butler, Ala., with burial in Ebenezer Cemetery in Pennington, Ala.

Gussie M. Lofton

MOUNT VERNON - Gussie Mae Lofton, a homemaker, died Thursday at a local medical facility. She was 70.

Mrs. Lofton was a native and resident of Mount Vernon. She attended St. Theresa Catholic Church in Mount Vernon.

Survivors include her husband, Adrian Lofton of Mount Vernon; seven sons, Adrian Lofton Jr., Steve Lofton, Jack Lofton, Mack Lofton and Zack Lofton, all of Mount Vernon, Neal Lofton of Semmes and Robert Lofton of McIntosh, Ala.; nine daughters, Elsie Weaver, Rita Byrd, Amy Weaver, Loriann Lambert, Delia Lomax, Mary Byrd, Jackie Weaver and Ginnie Byrd, all of Mount Vernon, and Eva Hollaway of Saraland; two brothers, Joe Orso and James Orso, both of Mount Vernon; 45 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Mount Vernon, with services at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Byrd Cemetery in Mount Vernon, with Freeman Funeral Home of Citronelle in charge.

Artie F. Botter

Artie F. Botter, a member of Zion Baptist Church for several years, died Thursday at a local nursing facility. She was 87.

Mrs. Botter was a native of Grand Bay and a longtime resident of Mobile.

Survivors include five children, Waring H. Botter and Eugene S. Botter, both of Wilmer, Marilyn B. Parker of Lucedale, Miss., William H. Botter and James M. Botter, both of Mobile.

Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, with services at 2 p.m., at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
