Alabama, U.S., County Marriage Records, 1805-1967 - 1814-1935

Marion James Cook

Marion James Cook, a former longtime employee of the local weather bureau, died Wednesday at her home.

Mrs. Cook, a native of Pittsburgh, was a Mobile resident since 1942.

Known affectionately as "Cookie" by her coworkers, Mrs. Cook spent more than 27 years with the local weather office, where she did primarily secretarial work. She retired in 1972.

Prior to her position at the weather office, she had been a switchboard operator with a glider corporation and had also worked with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Survivors include her niece, Ann Foltz, and her nephew, Bob Foltz, both of Pennsylvania.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street. Graveside services are set for noon Monday in the National Cemetery in Mobile.

Gladys P. Brubaker

Gladys P. Brubaker, a lifelong resident of the Tanner-Williams community near Mobile, died Thursday at the family residence. She was 85.

Survivors include four children, Margaret Pierce and Betty Gulas, both of Osceola, Ind., Bobby Brubaker and Quanna Driskell, both of Tanner-Williams; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street. Services are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Palestine Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.

Evelyn K. Brown

Evelyn K. Brown, a former registered nurse in a doctor's office, died Wednesday at a local hospital. She was 87.

Mrs. Brown, a native of Sadalia, Mo., lived in Mobile more than 50 years. She was a member of Ashland Place United Methodist Church.

She had attended the University of Tennessee School of Nursing.

Among her survivors is her husband, Dr. Leland L. Brown of Mobile.

Graveside services are set for 11 a.m. today in Old Spring Hill Cemetery. Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street handled arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Ashland Place United Methodist Church, 15 Wisteria Ave., Mobile, AL 36607.

Ida Louise Powers

Ida Louise Powers, who had been an employee of Gayfers for many years, died Wednesday in a local hospital. She was 74.

Mrs. Powers was a Montgomery native who lived in Mobile for 48 years.

She had also worked as a buyer for several exclusive stores in Huntsville.

Survivors include four children, Vickie Matranga, Ronald Powers, Angela Bartlett and Gary Powers; and seven grandchildren.

Visitation will be at 10 a.m. today with memorial services at noon at Serenity Funeral Home.

The family requests that memorials be made to the Mobile Opera Guild, Madam Rose scholarship fund or the Friends of Searcy.

William H. Moorer

William Holcombe Moorer, who had worked as an electrician, died Thursday at a local hospital. He was 49.

Moorer was a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church in Mobile.

Survivors include his sister, Lynn Kolde; and his brother, Frank Moorer of Mobile.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church. Gilmer Funeral Services in Mobile is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church.

Norma Kaywood

HITCHCOCK, Texas - Norma June Worsham Kaywood, a former Mobile resident and retired telephone company employee, died Sunday at her home. She was 77.

A native of St. Louis, Mrs. Kaywood moved to Mobile as a child and graduated from Murphy High School. She was a member of Jehovah's Witness.

She moved to Hitchcock in 1991.

Among her survivors are her husband of 43 years, Harlen James Kaywood of Hitchcock; her daughter, Kim Peterson of Hitchcock and formerly of Mobile; her brother, Derl Worsham of Saraland; and one grandson.

Memorial services took place in Hitchcock. Crowder Funeral Home in Dickinson, Texas, handled arrangements.

Russell E. Fenn Sr.

DOTHAN - Russell Edward "Rusty" Fenn Sr., a former resident of Mobile, died Thursday morning at his home. He was 69.

A native of Bellows Falls, Vt., Fenn had also lived in Montgomery and Crestview, Fla., before moving to Dothan in 1993.

The retired civil servant had worked as an aircraft mechanic. He was also a veteran of World War II.

While in Mobile, Fenn attended the University of South Alabama.

Survivors include his wife, Jackie Hunter Fenn of Dothan; three daughters, Diane Pullig of Shreveport, La., Donna Suesens of Dothan and Carol Sjolander of Mobile; one son, Russ Fenn of Headland; one sister, Dr. Patricia Fenn of Gladwyne, Pa.; his half-sister, Jesse Shea of Bennington, Vt.; two brothers, Winslow McGill Fenn of Port Arthur, Texas, and Fred Frances Fenn of St. Lyndonville, Vt.; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services are set for 6 p.m. today at Holman-Headland Mortuary in Headland, with visitation at 4:30 p.m. Graveside services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at Pine Crest Cemetery in Mobile.

Memorials may be made to the Building Fund of First Baptist Church of Headland, 305 E. Church St., Headland, AL 36545.
