Alabama, U.S., County Marriage Records, 1805-1967 - 1814-1935

Miranda Knight

Miranda "Noonie" Knight, a former housekeeper, died Monday at a local hospital at the age of 99.

Mrs. Knight, a native of Finchburg, Ala., was a resident of Mobile.

Survivors include her daughter, Rosetta Odom of Mobile; her sister, Vance Powell of Wilmer; and her brother, Albert Knight Sr.

Viewing will be from noon to 5 p.m. Friday at Christian Benevolent Funeral Home. Viewing will also be after 9 a.m. Saturday at Moffettville Missionary Baptist Church, with visitation from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. services. Burial will be in Moffettville Cemetery in Wilmer.

Melissa Samuels

Melissa Ellis Samuels, an accountant with the Florida Department of Agriculture, died Saturday in Prichard. She was 44.

The mother of three was killed during a robbery at Fred's Lemon Tree Hair Salon on Wilson Avenue.

A graduate of Vigor High School, Mrs. Samuels attended Bishop State Community College and earned a degree in accounting from the University of Mobile about five years ago, family members said. She became a Florida state employee and moved to Tallahassee, Fla., last year.

Mrs. Samuels is survived by her husband, Pearlie Samuels of Prichard; a daughter, Adrienne Samuels, 6; two sons, Philip Rivers, 18, and Pierre Samuels, 12; two stepdaughters, Velena Samuels of Prichard and Valeria Samuels of Auburn; a stepmother, Coreen Ellis of Mobile; a half-sister, Karen Ellis of Mobile; and a brother, Manzell Kennedy of Mobile.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Philadelphia Baptist Church on Wilson Avenue in Prichard. Visitation will be at the church from 11 a.m. Saturday until the time of the funeral. Arrangements are by Reese Funeral Home of Prichard.

Henry P. Scorver

Henry P. Scorver, an employee of Kimberly Clark for 28 years, died Friday in a local hospital. He was 51.

A native and resident of Mobile, Scorver was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Vietnam.

Survivors include his wife, Eula Scorver of Mobile; his mother, Lettie Scorver of Mobile; two daughters, Miranda Scorver and Joycelyn Scorver, both of Mobile; one son, Mark Scorver of Mobile; one stepson, Brien Lance York of Mobile; one sister, Carrie Herndon of Los Angeles; and four grandchildren.

Visitation will be at Aimwell Baptist Church, 500 Earl St., on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the 11 a.m. services. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery with Mosley Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Branden Sellers

Infant Branden Avery Sellers died Sunday at a local hospital at the age of 21 months.

Survivors include his parents, William I. Sellers IV and Christina Michelle Sellers of Saraland; maternal grandparents, Carl and Deborah Hoffman of Mobile, and Michael and Emma Small of Daphne; paternal grandparents, Arthur and Pauline McMichael of Grand Bay and William Sellers III of Grand Bay; and his great-grandparents, Marjorie Sellers of Grand Bay, George Hoffman of Mobile and Pearl Lee of Ocala, Fla.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at Serenity Funeral Home. Graveside services are set for 2 p.m. Thursday in Serenity Memorial Gardens.

Richard Smith Jr.

Richard C. "R.C." Smith Jr., who worked as a landscaper, died Sunday at a local hospital.

A native and resident of Mobile, Smith was in the U.S. Army for 20 years, during which time he served in the Korean and Vietnam wars. He retired from the Army with the rank of sergeant.

He then went to work with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers before going into the landscaping business.

He was a parishioner at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Edna M. Smith of Mobile; two sons, Richard C. Smith of Mobile and TSgt. Michael A. Smith, San Antonio; one daughter, Willistean McAllister of Mobile; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Viewing will be from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday at Christian Benevolent Funeral Home. Viewing is also set after 9 p.m. Friday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, with visitation from 10 a.m. until Mass of Christian burial is celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Pine Crest Cemetery.

Claudia E. Watson

Claudia E. Watson, a member of Greater Macedonia Baptist Church, died Monday at a local hospital. She was 87.

Mrs. Watson, a native of Monroeville, was a resident of Mobile and formerly lived in Kushla.

At church, she served as a deaconess, a former Sunday school teacher and a member of the senior choir and the Missionary Society.

Survivors include one daughter, Rosie L. Haston; one son, Elbert Watson Jr. of Mobile; one brother, John McMillian of Warren, Ohio; two sisters, Etta Mae Johnson of Monroeville and Annie C. Davis of Moss Point, Miss.; 12 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Viewing will be from noon to 5 p.m. Friday at Christian Benevolent Funeral Home. Viewing will also be after 9 a.m. Saturday at Greater Macedonia Baptist Church, 1350 Chinquapin St., with visitation from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. services Burial will be in Prichard Memorial Cemetery.

Gay A. Gilbert

LUCEDALE, Miss. - Gay A. Gilbert, a retired employee of Brookley Field, died Tuesday at a local health care facility. She was 87.

Mrs. Gilbert was a Wilmer native and a resident of Lucedale for 20 years. She formerly lived in Mobile for more than 60 years.

She was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include five children, J.W. Howell of Roundo, S.C., Alice Buckley of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Joan D. O'Connor of Mobile, Raymond Gilbert of Saraland and Glenwood Gilbert of Gulf Shores; one sister, Vermell Howell of Mobile; 18 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street, where services are set for 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens .
