Walter Leon Spain
January 5, 2000
A graveside service for Walter Leon Spain, 82, of Huntsville was Saturday, January 8, at 2:00 p.m. at Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Athens with Spry Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Spain died Wednesday, January 5, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. He was a native of Lawrence County and graduated from Morgan County High School and attended Florence State Teachers College and Howard College. He was a member of Whitesburg Baptist Church in Huntsville for 28 years and served on its board of deacons, the pulpit and finance committees and various other committees.
He was minister at a number of Baptist churches in Alabama, Oklahoma and California and served on the board of directors of the Downtown Rescue Mission, where he was a director of the senior program, and formerly served as business manager and interim mission director.
For the past several years, he has led Sunday morning services at Hillhaven Nursing Home and recently began leading an additional Sunday service at the New Cogburn Nursing Home. He was the brother of the late Paul Spain, Will Spain, J.E. Spain, Harry Spain, Price Spain, Thomas Spain, Hattie Mae Poole and Maimie Spain.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lila Davenport Spain of Huntsville; five sons, Walter Spain of Gadsden, John Spain of Roswell, N.M., James Spain and Thomas Spain, both of Huntsville, and Cmdr. David Spain of Monterey, Calif.; four daughters, Betty Berry of Fort Worth, Tex. Sarah Spain of Huntsville, Elizabeth Grasty of Houston, Tex., and Mary Jo Windham of Sweetwater; one sister, Annie Laura Whitworth of Hartselle; 26 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

Rufus Benjamin Johnson
January 5, 2000
Funeral for Rufus Benjamin Johnson, 80, of Gardendale was Saturday, January 8, at 11:00 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles Underwood officiating.
Burial was in Johnson Chapel Cemetery.
Mr. Johnson died Wednesday, January 5, 2000, at his residence. He was a native of Morgan County and a member of East Thomas Baptist Church. He was a retired switchman for Frisco B&N Railroad, where he worked for 30 years. He was a former Hartselle resident and received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his military service during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Lola Mae Williams Johnson of Gardendale; two sons, Ronald B. Johnson of Gardendale and Dahl M. Johnson of Marietta, Ga.; two daughters, Brenda Overton of Pensacola, Fla., and Mary Sisson of Gardendale; one sister, Jewel White of Pleasant Grove; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Reese Vines, Patrick Overton, Jerod Johnson, Maj. John Sisson, Jr., John H. Sisson and Chris Waldrep.

Patricia Ann Chairs Miller
January 7, 2000
Funeral for Patricia Ann Chairs Miller, 48, of Courtland was Wednesday, January 12, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Stephens Primitive Baptist Church with the Revs. Hosea Garrett officiating.
Burial was in Decatur City Cemetery with Reynolds Funeral Home directing.
Mrs. Miller died Friday, January 7, 2000, in Decatur. She was a native of Morgan County and a member of St. Stephens Primitive Baptist Church, where she was financial secretary and a member of the Mother's Board. She was a registered nurse for Decatur Orthopedic Clinic.
She is survived by her husband, George Miller of Courtland; two sons, Patrick Sales of Huntsville and George Michael Miller of Decatur; four daughters, Laryssa Fennell and Jessica Miller, both of Decatur, and Miriam Boyd and Meredith Townsend, both of Courtland; her parents, Humphrey and Jessie Mae Chairs of Decatur; two brothers, James Chairs of Decatur and Larry Chairs of New Orleans; two sisters, Ella Orr of Decatur and Alma Barnes of Hartselle; and three grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Herman Robinson, Michael Miller, John Robinson, Wayne Powell, David Hill and Tyrone Orr.
Honorary pallbearers were deacons of St. Stephens Primitive Baptist Church.

Melonae Watson Sims
December 31, 1999
A graveside service for Melonae Watson Sims, 74, of Hartselle was Sunday, January 2, at 3:30 p.m. at Roselawn Cemetery with the Rev. Bonnie Romans officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing.
Mrs. Sims died Friday, December 31, 1999, at Decatur General Hospital. She was a native of Morgan County and a member of Ninth Street United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Jimmy O. Sims of Hartselle; one son, Brent Sims of Hartselle; two daughters, Barri Edmondson of Hartselle and the Rev. Bonnie Romans of Tuscaloosa; four sisters, Nan Knight and Martha Watson, both of Decatur, and Ravena Childers and Margaret Childers, both of Hartselle; and four grandchildren.

Louise (Memaw) Wigginton
January 3, 2000
Funeral for Louise (Memaw) Wigginton, 65, of Hartselle was Wednesday, January 5, at 2:00 p.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church with the Revs. Ken Bender and Milton Jones officiating. Burial was in Johnson Chapel Cemetery with Shelton Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Wigginton died Monday, January 3, 2000, at her residence. She was a native of Morgan County and a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, where she served as a nursery worker.
She is survived by her husband, Henry Wigginton of Hartselle; four sons, Phillip Wigginton of Hartselle, Robert Wigginton of Priceville, Darryl Wigginton of Gardendale and Johnny Wigginton of Cullman; one daughter, Becky Anders of Hartselle; three brothers, Raymond Woodall of Neel , Marvin Woodall of Decatur and Truitt Woodall of Memphis, Tenn.; one sister, Ruby Werdebaugh of Decatur; and nine grandchildren.
Grandsons were pallbearers.

A. G. Livingston
January 2, 2000
Funeral for A. G. Livingston, 74, of Hartselle was Tuesday, January 4, at 3:00 p. m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Fred Vinson and Billy C. Turner officiating.
Burial was in Oden Ridge Cemetery.
Mr. Livingston died Sunday, January 2, 2000, at his residence. He was a native of Morgan Country and a member of Point Mallard Parkway Baptist Church. He was owner of Decatur Construction Company, a charter member of Cahaba Temple in Huntsville, a member of Rising Sun #29 Masonic Lodge and Carpenters Local #1274. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Martha Darwin.
He is survived by his wife, Stella Hammon Livingston of Hartselle; one son, Allen Gerald Livingston of Falkville; three daughters, Nancy Tucker of Evansville, Tenn., and Pam Doran and Cherri Scott, both of Decatur; four sisters, Lillian Stone of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Lilly Turner and Lois Key, both of Oden Ridge, and Leva Wilson of Decatur; 10 grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Ronald Yancy, Curtis (Bull) Nelson, Jim Mac Burchell, Gary Hammon, Ricky Hammon and Micky Hammon.

Gurnie Lee Kirby, Sr.
December 31, 1999
Funeral for Gurnie Lee Kirby, Sr., 71, of Hartselle was Monday, January 3, at 1:00 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Hal Daigre officiating.
Burial with military honors was in Mount Tabor Cemetery,
Mr. Kirby died Friday, December 31, 1999, at his residence. He was a native of Winston County and a U.S. Air Force and Civil Service retiree. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and brother of the late Lecil Kirby.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Kilgore Kirby of Hartselle; two sons, Michael Kirby of Chantilly, Va., and Gurnie J. Kirby of Rock Creek; on daughter, Charlotte Tumminello of Florida; one sister, Hazel Walker of Hartselle; 19 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren.
Members of Disabled American Veterans were pallbearers.
