Esther Laverne Hughes
April 18, 2000

Funeral for Esther Laverne Hughes, 67, of Somerville was Wednesday, April 19, at 1:00 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tex Grey officiating.
Burial was in Johnson Chapel Cemetery.
Mrs. Hughes died Tuesday, April 18, 2000, at a daughter's residence in Danville. She was a native of Morgan County and a member of the Jehovah's Witness Church.
She is survived by four sons, Clinton Hughes and Keith Hughes, both of Somerville, and Gordon Hughes and Jeff Hughes, both of Decatur; four daughters, Donna Brooker and Cynthia Hill, both of Danville, Vivian Owens of Hartselle and Nancy Nicholas of Somerville; two brothers, John Collins McCullough of Florida; two sisters, Evelyn Shadden of Hartselle and Ida Hughes of Mobile; 16 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Chris Girodo, Dale Hughes, Christopher Lindsey, Joshua Moebes, Jeff Morrow and Jonathan Vinzant.

Stella P. Young
April 12, 2000

Funeral for Stella P. Young, 76, of Falkville was Friday, April 14, at 12:00 noon at Mill Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Johnny Reid and David Hale officiating.
Burial was in Hartselle Memory Gardens with Peck Funeral Home directing.
Mrs. Young died Wednesday, April 12, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. She was a native of Tennessee and a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church.
She is survived by four sons, Wayne Smith and Eugene Smith, both of Kinston, Garland Smith of Hartselle and Michael Young of Falkville; two daughters, Mary Ann Maze of Kinston and Thresia Young of Huntsville; two brothers, Roy Walls and Cleveland Walls, both of Columbia, Tenn.; one sister, Lillie Lovell of Columbia; 28 grandchildren; 56 great grandchildren; and 31 great great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Grady Duskin, Ceillie Gibson, Rev. David Hale, Jimmy Hill, Billy Robinson, Lawrence Slaven and Bobby Strickland.

Howard Ray South
April 14, 2000

Funeral for Howard Ray South, 65, of Falkville was Monday, April 17, at 2:00 p.m., at New Hope North Baptist Church with the Rev. Anthony Vinson officiating.
Burial was in New Hope North Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing.
Mr. South died Friday, April 14, 2000, at his residence. He was a native of Morgan County, a Baptist and a construction worker for Bryson Construction Co. He was the grandfather of the late Destiny South.
He is survived by his wife, Elsie South of Falkville; two sons, Frankie South of Cullman and Jason South of Falkville; five daughters, Rebecca Bagwell of Logan, Darlene Jacobs of Vinemont, Vickie Kelso of Fort Lewis, Wash., and Teresa Givens and Karen Burney, both of Falkville; one brother, Thurman South of Hartselle; four sisters, Gladys Green and Margie Robertson, both of Falkville; Mary Hazel of Decatur and Shirley Bailey of Fairview; 17 grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Scott Sellers, Randall Bailey, Chad Adcock, Chase South, Zachary South, Charles Green, Cecil Green and Scott Moore.

P.D. Michael
April 16, 2000

Funeral for P.D. Michael, 66, of Decatur was Tuesday, April 18, at 11:00 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tony Willis officiating.
Burial was in New Friendship Cemetery.
Mr. Michael died Sunday, April 16, 2000, at his residence. He was a native of Franklin County and a retired construction worker.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy B. Michael of Decatur; two sons, Christopher Michael of Kissimmee, Fla., and Lee Tucker, Jr., of New Market; three daughters, Lori Carson of Columbus, Ga., Rhonda Blazar of Weston, Fla., and Penny Schrimsher of Decatur; one brother, A.B. Hyde of Spruce Head, Maine; one sister, Bernice Smith of Phil Campbell; and 12 grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Gary Voohees, Larry Williams, Jimmy Ratliff, Robert Carson, Ashley McIntyre and Rusty McIntyre.

Rev. Robert Sheats Summerford
April 15, 2000

Funeral for Rev. Robert Sheats Summerford, 78, of Decatur was Tuesday, April 18, at 11:00 a.m. at Central United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charles Boling and Dr. Willis Vickery officiating.
Burial was in Hartselle City Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing.
Rev. Summerford died Saturday, April 15, 2000, at his residence. He was a native of Morgan County and a retired Methodist minister. He served as pastor of churches in the North Alabama Methodist Conference for 30 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II who served in the Pacific Theatre as an infantryman.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah Johnson Summerford of Falkville; one son, George Alan Summerford of Littleton, S.C.; one daughter, Janet Summerford Baker of Muscle Shoals; four sisters, Pernie S. Morris and Doris S. Herring, both of Massey, Barbara S. Jolly of Steele and Virginia S. Duncan of Boyce, La.; and five grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Larry Anders, Theron Anders, Ferrell Anders, Barry Jolly, Robbie Duncan and Mike Duncan.

Ruth Simpson Cofield
April 11, 2000

Funeral for Ruth Simpson Cofield, 75, of Moulton was Thursday, April 13, at 10:00 a.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home with the Rev. Neal Carter officiating.
Burial was in Franklin Memorial Gardens in Russellville.
Mrs. Cofield died Tuesday, April 11, 2000, at National Health Care in Moulton. She was a native of Lawrence County and a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She was the widow of Ed Cofield.
She is survived by one brother, Bill Simpson of Danville.
Pallbearers were Josh McGuire, Brett Black, Mark Hester, Gary Black, Louie Smith and Richard Smith.

Curtis J. Standridge
April 9, 2000

Funeral for Curtis J. Standridge, 77, of Kingston, Tenn., was Tuesday, April 11, at Kyker Funeral Home with the Rev. Mason Goodman officiating.
Burial was in Kingston Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Standridge died Sunday, April 9, 2000, at his residence. He was a native of Lawrence County and a former resident of Danville. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a retired building contractor.
He is survived by one son, Bobby Standridge of Harriman, Tenn.; one daughter, Linda Walker of Evansville, Tenn.; two brothers, George Standridge of Kingston and Lee Standridge of Decatur; three sisters, Sudie Slocum of Ohio, Mildred Keenum of Danville and Nancy Horan of Columbus, Ga.; four grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
