Harold Gene Borden

MOULTON -- Memorial service for Harold Gene Borden, 39, of Huntsville will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home with Ted Bryson officiating.

Mr. Borden died Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999, at The University of Alabama Hospital at Birmingham. He was born April 17, 1960, in Colbert County. He was a lab technician at Huntsville Hospital. He was the nephew of Avis Barnell of Town Creek.

He is survived by three brothers, Wayne Rubert Borden, Cline Ray Borden and Larry Borden, all of Leighton; and one sister, Jean Eastep of Leighton.

Wardlaw 'Bone'Drennan

GREENWOOD, S.C. -- Funeral arrangements for Wardlaw "Bone" Drennan, 63, of Decatur, who died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, at his sister's home in Green wood, S.C., will be announced by Robinson & Son Mortuary of Green wood.

Ollie Braswell Harris
90, homemaker

Graveside service for Ollie Braswell Harris, 90, of Decatur will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Cemetery with the Rev. Estus L. Harden and the Rev. Thomas Elder officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Harris died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born April 9, 1909, in Morgan County to C.E. "Jake" and Katie Braswell. She was a member of Basham United Methodist Church. She was the widow of Arnold "Dock" Harris.

She is survived by one son, Malcolm Harris of Guntersville; one daughter, Marie Dodson of Priceville; two brothers, Cecil Braswell and Chester Braswell, both of Decatur; two sisters, Odell Moore of Belle Mina and Katie Laney of Decatur; one stepsister, Daisy Mae Rose of Decatur; six grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Charles Monroe Kimbril
55, truck driver

Funeral for Charles Monroe Kimbrel, 55, of Decatur will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Wallace Willingham, the Rev. Arlene Sutton and Raymond Sutton officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Kimbril died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999, at University of Alabama Hospital at Birmingham. He was born May 7, 1944, in Cullman to Louis and Ethel Kimbril. He was a truck driver for Southern Moving Co. and a member of the Church of God of Prophecy.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda Kimbril; two sons, Charles "Chuck" Kimbril of Cleveland, Tenn., and Jason Shane Kimbril of Neel; one daughter, Tina Rene Kimbril of Decatur; two sisters, Eloise Dilbeck of Decatur and Geneva Nappier of Hartselle; one brother, Eugene Kimbril of Eva; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Ford, Sherman Dilbeck, Bradley Dilbeck, Dale Dilbeck, James Kimbril and L.C. Tackett.

Rev. Jerry Ottis Oden
53, Vietnam veteran

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for the Rev. Jerry Ottis Oden, 53, of Eva was held Monday at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Harlon Hood and the Rev. Tim Kinney officiating. Burial was in Oden Ridge Cemetery.

Mr. Oden died Friday, Dec. 24, 1999, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. He was born Aug. 29, 1946, in Cullman County to Ottis and Flora Nelson Oden. He was pastor of West Point Baptist Church in Somerville and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was the father of the late Mark Oden.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Patton Oden; one son, Michael Oden of Madison; one daughter, Michelle Oden Talor of Madison; his parents of Robertsdale; and one brother, Allen Oden of Foley.

The pallbearers were Allen Oden, Billy Patton, Bobby Patton, Jeff Henderson, LaFelt Hendrix, David Mangum, Quentin Hendrix and Lewis Cornett.

Ernest August 'Mike' Papenburg
84, retired welder

BATON ROUGE, La. -- Funeral for Ernest August "Mike" Papenburg, 84, of Baton Rouge, formerly of Decatur, will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Green oaks Funeral Home with the Rev. Cleve Chandler officiating.

Burial will be in Green oaks Memorial Park. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Papenburg died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, at home. He was born March 25, 1915, in Decatur to Henry and Mary Guhl Papenburg. He retired as a welder from the Esso and Exxon Corp. after more than 30 years. He was the widower of Margaret Ann Sarvor Papenburg and the grandfather of the late Todd Fugler.

He is survived by one son, Charles Henry Papenburg of Baton Rouge; two daughters, Vall Ann Fugler and Sue Cashio, both of Baton Rouge; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Rebecca Annerton Shedd
68, homemaker

ATHENS -- Graveside service for Rebecca Annerton Shedd, 68, of Cullman will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Cemetery with Charles Annerton officiating.

Mrs. Shedd died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born July 25, 1931, in Limestone County. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by one son, Norman Shedd of Beaumont, Texas; two brothers, David Annerton of Huntsville and Charles Annerton of Athens; one sister, Katherine Himmel of Meridianville; and one granddaughter.

Ruth Virginia Smallwood
74, retired secretary

ATHENS -- Graveside service for Ruth Virginia Smallwood, 74, of Tanner will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Limestone Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Carl Smallwood officiating and Limestone Chapel Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Miss Smallwood died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born Feb. 8, 1925, in Stanford, Ky., to A.D. and Mollie Collier Smallwood.

She retired as a secretary from Murphy Cotton Co. in Tanner.

She is survived by two brothers, Carl Smallwood and Bill Smallwood, both of Decatur; three sisters, Molly McAdams and Dorothy Lakes, both of Tanner, and Jane Halbrooks of Decatur.

Nephews will be pallbearers.

Stanley Ray Adams

ARDMORE -- Funeral for Stanley Ray Adams, 47, of Athens will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Taylor-Ardmore Funeral Home with the Rev. Bruce Walters officiating.

Burial will be in Fielding Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday night from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Adams died Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999, at Decatur General Hospital.

He is survived by his wife, Debbie Adams; one daughter, Miriah Adams of Athens; two stepdaughters, Mona Gentry-Chestnut of Montgomery and Dawn Gentry of Athens; one brother, Steve Adams of Ardmore; two sisters, Lana Hargrove of Ardmore and Linda Higginbotham of Ardmore; and two grandchildren.

Lola Burt Elliott

Funeral arrangements for Lola Burt Elliott, 52, of Cantonment, Fla., who died Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Fla., will be announced by Reynolds Funeral Home.

Vera M. Griffin
93, retired schoolteacher

MOLINE, Ill. -- Funeral for Vera M. Griffin, 93, of Decatur, formerly of Moline, will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Broadway Presbyterian Church in Rock Island.

Burial will be in Moline Memorial Park Cemetery with Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends one hour before the service.

Mrs. Griffin died Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, at Fairhavens Christian Home in Decatur. She was born Jan. 30, 1906, in Colby, Kan., to Asa and Vada Smith. She married Leslie L.G. Griffin on Feb. 9, 1935; he died in 1995. She was a retired schoolteacher for Moline public schools. She was a member of Broadway Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir and was a Sunday school superintendent and teacher.

She is survived by one son, David G. Griffin of Decatur; two daughters, Nancy Griffin Massaro of Rochester, Minn., and Meredith Griffin McMinn of Decatur, Ill.; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

Birdie Griggs

Funeral arrangements for Birdie Griggs, 90, of Decatur, who died Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999, at Decatur General Hospital, will be announced by Roselawn Funeral Home.

Lucille Melton
84, homemaker

ATHENS -- Funeral for Lucille Melton, 84, of Madison will be today at 2 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home Chapel with Ray Pettit officiating.

Burial will be in New Garden Cemetery.

Mrs. Melton died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, at Lawrence-Baptist Medical Center in Moulton. She was born Sept. 26, 1915, in Limestone County. She was a homemaker and a member of Madison Street Baptist Church.

She is survived by four sons, Ivor Lee Melton and Walter Melton, both of Madison, Charles Melton of Florence and Thomas Melton of Virginia; one daughter, Barbara Jean Moody of Haleyville; two brothers, Jesse Putman of Athens and Olibe Putman of Elkmont; one sister, Dora Osborne of Coco Beach, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Melton, Boyd Melton, Sidney Dempsey, Wayne Dempsey, James Moody and Glenn Moody.

Memorials may be made to Madison Street Baptist Church.
