Alabama, U.S., County Marriage Records, 1805-1967 - 1814-1935

Sallie Marie Harris
Funeral services for Sallie Marie Harris, 87, Clanton, were held on Monday, Oct. 25, 1999, at Martin Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Tony Smitherman officiating.
Burial followed at Chilton Memorial Gardens, with Martin Funeral Home directing.
Harris was born on June 18, 1912, in Alabama, the daughter of the late Albert and Dixie Neeley. She was a store clerk. She died at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster on Oct. 22, 1999.
Survivors include two sons, James L. Harris and Danny F. Harris, both of Clanton; two daughters, Sylvia Smitherman and Martha Crumley, both of Clanton; one sister, Magdalene Dennis, Prattville; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Reedie E. Smitherman
Funeral services for Reedie E. Smitherman, 81, Clanton, were held on Sunday, Oct. 24, 1999, at Martin Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Charles Brooke and Rev. Terry Smith officiating.
Burial followed at Pleasant Grove Methodist Church Cemetery in Clanton, with Martin Funeral Home directing.
Smitherman was born on Aug. 17, 1918, in Alabama, the son of the late Ed and Ela Smitherman. He was a carpenter. He died on Oct. 22, 1999, at Chilton Medical Center in Clanton.
Survivors include two sons, James E. Smitherman and Larry Smitherman, both of Clanton; one sister, Lela Terrell, Clanton; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Gary W. Stephens
Funeral services for Gary W. Stephens, 43, Forest, Miss., were held on Saturday, Oct. 23, 1999, at Ott and Lee Funeral Home Chapel in Forest, Miss.,, with Rev. Judd Allen officiating.
Burial was at Eastern Cemetery in Forest, Miss., with Ott and Lee Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers were Steve Cox, Joey Nance, Chris Vance, Allen Brunson, Leo Russell, and Mac Richardson. Joey Baker was an honorary pallbearer.
Stephens was a native of Union, Miss., in Newton County and lived most of his life in Forest, Miss., in Scott County. He was a self-employed contractor as a permit agent. He died on Tuesday, Oct. 19, 1999, in Arcadia, La.
Survivors include his mother, Elsie Stephens, Forest, Miss.; one sister, Leisa E. Stephens, Forest Miss.; one brother, Ronnie M. Stephens, Clanton; one niece; and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his father, L.M. "Buddy" Stephens, in 1998.
Memorials may be sent to Temple Baptist Church, P.O. Box 404, Forest, MS 39074.

Murphy (Buddy) Hamm
Graveside services for Murphy (Buddy) Hamm will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 27, 1999, at Bethsalem Baptist Church.
Hamm was born on Dec. 18, 1937. He loved his neighbors at Woodland Hills Chateau Community and they loved him. Hamm was retired from the Air Force, having served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He loved his county, his family, and his life, but above all he loved God. We shall miss him always. He died on Oct. 24, 1999.
Survivors include one son, Rick Ferguson; two brothers, A. Hubert Hamm, Prattville, and B. Leo Hamm, Jemison; two sisters, Mary Cone, Montgomery, and Shirley Cleckler, Clanton; one step-sister, Vera Stringer, Florence, Miss.; one granddaughter; several nieces and nephews.

Owen Hershey Carter
A memorial service for Owen Hershey Carter, retired Colonel USA, 87, Mooresville, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30, 1999, at Cavin Funeral Home in Mooresville, with Rev. Brian S. Suntken officiating and Cavin Funeral Home directing.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral Home. Burial will take place at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va.
Carter was born on May 13, 1912, in Detroit, Mich., the son of the late Dr. Earl Hershey Carter and Margaret Owens Carter. Carter was a retired colonel and had 29 years of service in the U.S. Army. He was the recipient of four Purple Hearts, two Silver Stars, and three Bronze Stars during his service in World War II and Korea. He marriage his wife, Ella Howard Carter, a native of Clanton, on Nov. 22, 1942.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Episcopal Church in Mooresville. He was a Mason and loved woodworking and fishing. He died at Brian Center Health and Retirement in Mooresville on Oct. 27, 1999.
Survivors include his wife, Ella Howard Carter, and one son, David O. Carter, Mooresville. He was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Richard Carter, and a sister, Sally Carter Reed.
Memorials may be made to St. Patrick's Episcopal Mission, P.O. Box 1491, Mooresville, N.C. 28115, or the National Stroke Association.

William A. "Bid" Smith
Funeral services for William A. "Bid" Smith, 77, Thorsby, were held on Saturday, Oct. 30, 1999, at 11 a.m. at Martin Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Keith Edwards and Rev. Morris Holcomb officiating.
Burial will follow at Midway Memorial Gardens in Jemison, with Martin Funeral Home directing.
Visitation will be at Martin Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, Oct. 29, 1999, from 5-8 p.m.
Smith was born on Dec. 17, 1921, in Chilton County, the son of the late Harley A. and Lettie Smith. He was a carpenter. He died at Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham.
Survivors include his wife, Elsie Smith, Thorsby; one son, William Gary Smith, Thorsby; one brother, Charles Smith, Jemison; three sisters, Louise Mills, Jemison, and Joyce Killingsworth and Kathleen Reynolds, both of Montevallo; and two grandsons.

William Eugene Brown
Funeral services for William Eugene Brown, 88, Prattville, were held on Saturday, Oct. 30, 1999, at 1 p.m., with Rev. Larry Woods officiating.
Burial will follow at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery, with Martin Funeral Home directing.
Visitation will be at Martin Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, Oct. 29, 1999, from 5-8 p.m.
Brown was born on Sept. 14, 1911, in Chilton County, the son of the late Luther A. and Nola Brown. He was a sales manager and served in the Army. He died on Oct. 27, 1999, at his residence.
Survivors include three daughters, Jean B. Williams, Jackie Mae Davis, and Shirley Ann Joiner, all of Prattville; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, William A. "Billy" Brown.
