Annie V. Horn

TUSCALOOSA - Annie V. Horn, age 88, of 2101 44th St., E., died May 28, 2001, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be 9:30 a.m. Thursday, at Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home South. Burial will follow in Prospect Baptist Cemetery in Barbour County with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home South directing. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at the funeral home. The body will lie in state 30 minutes before service.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alton Lee Horn, sons, Guy Horn and Cyrus Horn.

She is survived by daughter, Sarah McColgan (Ralph), Mansfield, Mo.; sons, Thomas W. Horn (Jane), McCalla and Bernard Horn (Sue), Birmingham; brother, Thomas C. Simmons, Ozark; grandchildren, Libby Wilks-Hosmer (Sonny), Tuscaloosa, Kenneth M. Knight (Dawn), McCalla, David W. Horn (Chere) Lipscomb, Larry M. Knight, Northport, Janet A. Knight, Chelsea, Donna R. Horn, Orland, Fla., Jeffery Horn, Birmingham and nine great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth M. Knight, Larry M. Knight, David W. Horn, Kevin M. Knight, Kristopher M. Knight and Matthew W. Horn.

Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Greir Stewart, nurses and staff of 3 Southeast DCH.

Robert S. Krueger

DECATUR - Funeral for Robert S. Krueger, 74, of Decatur will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church with the Rev. Joseph Culotta officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery with Roselawn Funeral Home directing. Following a rosary, the family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Krueger died Sunday, May 27, 2001, at his home. He was born July 29, 1926, in Neodesha, Kan., to Ira and Ruth Krueger. He was retired from Amoco Chemical after 35 years of service. He was a veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Decatur Elks Lodge No. 655 and American Legion Post No. 15.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma J. Krueger; three sons, Louis Kidd of Knoxville, Mike Krueger of Tuscaloosa, and Steve Krueger of Madison; one daughter, Ruth Ann Hall of Tuscaloosa; one brother, Jack Krueger of Sanger, Texas; and seven grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Wallace B. McGahan, Mervin Markley, Jack Allen, Rudy Kucera, Greg Hale, and Bill Smith.

Memorials may be made to the Annunciation of the Lord Building Fund at St. Ann Catholic Church.

LeRoy Hill

NORTHPORT - LeRoy Hill, 56, died May 26, 2001 at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be held at Sunset Chapel, Wednesday, at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Camp Ground Methodist Cemetery. Visitation is from 9-10 a.m., Wednesday. Sunset Funeral Home is directing.

Edna Boothe Marcum

TUSCALOOSA - Edna Boothe Marcum, 75, 1101 Snows Mill Ave., died May 30, 2001 at Heritage Health Care Center. Services will be held at Magnolia Chapel of Northport, Friday at 11 a.m., with the Bro. Thomas Vaughn officiating. Burial will follow in Parker Cemetery in Buhl. Visitation is from 10-11 am. Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home of Northport is directing.

She is preceded in death by her husband, George P. Marcum.

Survivors include two daughters, Dianne Hendrix (Buddy) and Melissa Greathouse (Keith); two sons, Michael Marcum (Shelia) and Frank Marcum (Anne); two sisters, Clarine Booth and Rachel Griffin (Stuart); two brothers, William Boothe and Emmett Boothe, seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

The family wishes to extend a heart felt thank you to Dr. Thomas McDermott, Heritage Health Care Center and their loving staff, Hospice of West Alabama, Trinity Baptist Church, friends and neighbors of Green wood Circle.

Pallbearers will be friends and family.

Alta B. Almon

Memorial services for Alta B. Almon were conducted Tuesday, May 29th, at 10:30 a.m., from the United Methodist Church of Elk City with Rev. Dan Pulver officiating. Services were under the direction of the Martin Funeral Home of Elk City.

Alta B. Almon was born March 19, 1923 at Buhl, Ala., to Henry and Clara (McBride) Lewis and passed away Saturday at the age of 78. Alta received her teaching certificate and then taught 3rd grade at Elwood Elementary. She met David Pope Almon in 1942 while continuing her education at the University of Alabama. Pope was in Pilot Training School on the same campus and they were married on July 1, 1944 at Dallas, TX. During WWII, Alta traveled with Pope as much as possible and they settled in Elk City in 1959. She was a member of Elk City Golf and Country Club, Rook Club, PEO, volunteered for Meal on Wheels and very active in the United Methodist Church of Elk City. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on June 21, 1999 and two brothers, Warren and Jack.

Survivors include two children: Lou Ann Wagenblast and her husband Tom of Tulsa and David Almon and his wife Markie of Oklahoma City. Six grandchildren, Angela, Cheryl, Susan, Kelsey, Jonathan and Jeremy and five great grandchildren and a special cousin, Sonny Duckworth of Buhl, Ala.

Loreane Duckworth Frye

CULLMAN - Loreane Duckworth Frye, 86, of 88 County Road 1514, formally of Fayette, died May 29, 2001, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. Services will be held today at 11:00 a.m. at Nelson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church Cemetery. Nelson Funeral Home of Fayette directing.

Jessie Ardelia Kelley

BERRY - Jessie Ardelia Kelley, 92, of 30 South Ave., died May 28, 2001 at her residence. Services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Hopewell Cemetery. Nelson Funeral Home is directing.

Frank Wright

DEMOPOLIS - Deacon Frank Wright, 64, died May 26, 2001, at Bryan Whitfield Hospital, Demopolis. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 2, 2001 at 1 p.m., at Bethel Baptist Church, Coatopa. Rev. Floyd Bell, officiating. Interment will follow in the New Bethel Cemetery, Coatopa. Remains will repose at the church on Saturday beginning at 12 noon. Family hour will be held Friday night from 7-8 p.m., at the funeral home chapel. Larkin & Scott Funeral Directors of Demopolis entrusted with arrangements.

Ethel Brown

NORTHPORT - Ethel Brown, 77, died May 30, 2001 at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be announced at a later date by the funeral home. Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at the funeral home. Sunset Funeral Home is directing.

Ida Belle Anderson

TUSCALOOSA - Ida Belle Anderson, 83, of 5235 Jug Factory Road, died May 26, 2001 at University of Alabama Birmingham Hospital. Services will be held at Rising Star Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa, on Thursday, May 31 at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in C S B Society Cemetery, Tuscaloosa, with Williams Service Funeral Home directing. The body will lie in state today at the funeral home from 12 noon until 7 p.m., and at the church one hour prior to funeral time.

William Kenneth Rinehart

LONG BEACH, Calif., - William Kenneth Rinehart, 77, died Sunday, May 27, 2001. Services will be held at Brilliant United Methodist Church, Friday, June 1, 2001 at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Brilliant Memorial Gardens. Miles Funeral Home is directing.

Robert Emmett Byrd, Jr.

VESTAVIA HILLS - Robert Emmett Byrd, Jr., of Vestavia Hills, formerly of Tuscaloosa, passed away on Monday, May 28, 2001 at the age of 76.

Mr. Byrd was a member of Shades Mountain Baptist Church. He was a member of the Quarter Century Club at Rust Engineering, charter member of Chace Lake Country Club, member of Bluff Park Lodge and the Pioneer Hunting Club. Mr. Byrd was born in Franklin, Va., enlisted in the US Navy, where he participated at Omaha Beach. He attended Marion Military Institute where he met Martha Ann Jones, a Judson College coed, of Tuscaloosa. He finished college at Auburn University in 1950 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, specializing in Pulp and Paper.

Mr. Byrd was preceded in death by a daughter, Patti Lee Byrd.

Survivors include, wife of 53 years, Martha Ann Byrd, son Robert "Bubba" G. (Sharon) Byrd of Indian Springs, daughters, Ginger (Ken) McPherson of Marietta, Ga, Laura (Thomas "Bubba") Findlay of Tuscaloosa, brother, Jack L. Byrd of Port Charlotte, Fl., grandchildren, Allison, Amanda and Katherine McPherson, Gray and Jessica Byrd, Stephanie Findlay and Beth Ann Bowen and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m., in Jefferson Memorial Gardens South, Hoover with Rev. Bill Reed to officiate. The family will receive friends at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, Hoover on Wednesday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1100 Ireland Way, Birmingham, AL 35205 or the American Diabetes Association, 200 Office Park Dr. Mountain Brook, AL 35223.

Oliver Woodrow Booth

TUSCALOOSA - Oliver Woodrow Booth, 84, died May 28, 2001, at his residence. Services will be held at Rosedale Baptist Church, Thursday, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Ed Steelman officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens. Visitation will be at Memory Chapel from 6- 8 p.m., tonight. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Maude Booth, and his son, Douglas Bryant Booth.

He is survived by his daughter, Sharron B. Miller; grandchildren Dana Marshall Costa (Jake), Samuel Bart Marshall (Carol); three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be J.P. Foster , Linville Barger, Wayne Hoggle, Adrian Herron, Gordon Carroll, and Jimmy Crawford.

Honorary pallbearers are Early Lewis Sunday School Class, Young at Heart Senior Adults, Friends and Neighbors on Bailey Drive, and members of Rosedale Baptist Church.

William J. Ward

VANCE - William J. (Buddy) Ward, 71, 11512 William Walker Rd. Died May 30, 2001 at his residence. Graveside services will be held in Union Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery on Saturday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Gerald Keef officiating. Visitation is Friday, June 1, 2001 from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memory Chapel Funeral Home is directing.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry J. Ward and Bessie Mae Eaton Ward; sister, Frances J. Ward; son, William Monroe Ward.

Survivors includes a sister, Shirley W. Duncan, Moundville; grandchildren, Rusty (Kristi) Ward, Northport.

Honorary pallbearers are Rayburn and Mildred Eaton, Darren Rice, Tracy Criss and special friend Mary Rice, Jon and Diane Griffin, UMW Mine Workers of Brookwood.

William Val Carpenter

TUSCALOOSA - William Val Carpenter, 47, #17 Broadview, died May 31, 2001 at his residence. Services will be held at Memory Chapel, Friday, June 1, 2001 at 1 p.m. with the Pastor Max Goodson officiating. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park. Visitation is at 12 p.m. Memory Hills Funeral Home is directing.

He is preceded in death by his father, Valcus Carpenter, Jr.

Survivors include his mother, Barbara Carpenter, Tuscaloosa; sister, Vicki (Jack) Holmes, Tuscaloosa; half brother, Vance (Cheryl) Carpenter, West Palm Beach, Fla.; two nieces and four nephews, special friends, Chance Willis of Dallas, TX., and Earl Bailey of Birmingham.

Pallbearers will be Chance Willis, Earl Bailey, Jack Holmes, Gene Carpenter, Marshall Carpenter, Charlie Thigpen, Sonny Cook, and James Farris.

The family kindly suggests memorials be made to Woodland Park Baptist Church, 4620 Pelham Heights Rd., Tuscaloosa, AL 35404.

Jean Griffin Fields

TUSCALOOSA - Jean Griffin Fields, of 3 Arlington Drive in Tuscaloosa, died May 30, 2001, at Druid City Hospital. A memorial service will be held at Memory Chapel Funeral Home on Saturday, June 2, 2001, at 2:00 p.m., with Brother James Olive and Reverend Moses Madison officiating, with graveside services immediately following at Memory Hills Gardens Cemetery. Visitation is Friday from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m., at Memory Chapel Funeral Home.

She is preceded in death by her parents, John Wiley Griffin and Della Golden Griffin, brothers J. Otis Griffin and James L. Griffin, and sister Tia Griffin Sumner.

Survivors include her husband, George Daniel Fields, Sr., sons George Daniel Fields, Jr. (Lydia), and John Arnett Fields (Diane), daughter Minunie Fields Swaim (Mort), all of Tuscaloosa, and grandchildren Monica Fields Rodgers (Dan) of Montgomery and Brandi Carol Fields, Monnish Jean-Ruth Swaim, Missy Meagan Fields, April Averett, Josh Montgomery, Jeremy Montgomery, and David Montgomery, all of Tuscaloosa.

Mrs. Fields was born and raised in Tuscaloosa and graduated from Tuscaloosa High School. She was a lover of children, animals, flowers, antique collecting and the creative arts. She was an award-winning artist, specializing in painting and ceramics. She was an active member of the Tuscaloosa Bottle Club and Tuscaloosa Garden Club.

Pallbearers are Donald Griffin, Tim Wall, Allen Owen, Jim Wilson Phillips, Bobby Sumner, Alan Wall, David Tucker, and Johnny Reynolds.

Honorary pallbearers are Barbara and Farrell Hudgins, Marie and Hubert Hallman, Donna Tucker Williams, Chaplain Lois Tanner, Reverend and Mrs. Moses Madison, Tag and Edith Graves, Jerry and Sandra Simpson, Wayne and Frances Grimball, Maggie Lee, Lisa and Norman Kaiser, Karen Engel and family, Sheila and Allen Herd, John and Margaret Graham, Johnnie Dean and Andy Chappell, Billy Mack Brown, friends and staff of the Capitol School, employees of M. Mort Swaim, P.C., and especially Dr. Felipe Samaniego, Dr. Jean Bernard Durand, Dr. Zhiyong Li, Kathleen Shannon McAdams, R.N., and Rose-Mary Ashworth, R.N., all of M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX., friends and neighbors of Shady Dale, and friends and neighbors of Arlington Drive.

BIRMINGHAM - Lizzie White, 100, died May 28, 2001 at South Health Hospital in Birmingham. Services will be held at New Canaan Baptist Church, Saturday at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in New Cemetery. Visitation is Friday from 2-8 p.m. The body will lie in state Saturday from 1-2 p.m. Lavender Funeral Service is directing.
