Walter Collins Minniear, born April 17, 1911, died Friday, July 19, 2002, at the age 91, in Pewaukee, Wis. He is survived by his wife, Mary of Pewaukee, Wis.; his children, Mary Jane and husband, Joe of Delafield, Wis., Ramy Garcia and husband, Daniel of Austin, Texas, Robert Minniear and wife, Bea of Shreveport, La., Tom Minniear and wife, Aline of Baton Rouge, La. and John Minniear and wife, Deanie of Oshkosh, Wis.; a brother, Harry Minniear and wife, Virginia of Indianapolis; 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Organizations over the years; Lions Club of West Monroe, La. past president, Lions Club of Beaumont, Texas, Downtown Rotary Club of Fort Smith, Noon Civics Club, past president, ASCAP, Louisiana Music Educators Association, past president-secretary 1954-1969, Music Educators National Association, life member; honors; Outstanding Educator by LMEA, Inc. in 1969, First High School Musician elected to Hall of Fame in 1983 and Fort Smith Civic Center Honoree. Teaching career; spanning 58 years started in Lombard, Ill., then to Ouachita Parish High School in Monroe, La., to Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas to Shreveport, La. at Fair Park High School and Captain Shreve High School and finally to Fort Smith as conductor of the Fort Smith Symphony from 1969 to 1984 and teacher and former chairman of the Humanities at Westark Community College now called the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith. He retired in 1987. A memorial service is planned at a later date through St. John's Episcopal Church in Fort Smith. POTEAU - Gladys Geneva Almon, 80, of Poteau died Wednesday, July 24, 2002, in Fort Smith. She was born Aug. 20, 1921, in Cravens, Okla. She was a homemaker, a member of First Baptist Church in Wister and the widow of Willard Almon. Graveside service will be 10 a.m. today at Wister City Cemetery under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau. She is survived by a son, Bob Almon of Poteau; a sister, Opal Platt of Ada, Okla.; and two grandchildren, Kelli Dubois of Russellville and Sharla Gaither of Springdale.

OLD SPADRA - Morgan James Howard, 87, of Old Spadra died Wednesday, July 24, 2002, in his home. He was born July 1, 1915, in Spadra. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, a coal miner for 17 years and a member of Coal Hill Masonic Lodge No. 383 for over 50 years. Graveside service will be 6 p.m. today at Spadra Cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home of Clarksville. She worked in the health care as a LPN and was of the Pentecostal faith. Fred Ballman
Fred C. Ballman, 89, of Fort Smith died Monday, July 29, 2002, in his home. He was the retired chairman of the board of Baldor Electric and was an emeritus director of the Baldor board. He was instrumental in opening Baldor Electric in Fort Smith in 1956. He was a Presbyterian, an Eagle Scout, past board member of Sparks Regional Medical Center and City National Bank and was active in numerous civic clubs and organizations. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Knight, a member of First Baptist Church in Fort Smith, Weight Control Workshops, Sparks Guild and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for 50 years and was retired after 40 years as head bookkeeper for International Paper Company-Long Bell Division. Robert Hugh Binyon, 87, of Paris, died Sunday, July 28, 2002, in Paris. He was a retired coal miner. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alonzo and Mary Alice King Binyon. William Kyle 'Bill' Bellamy
William Kyle 'Bill' Bellamy was born Aug. 22, 1920 to Elsie and Kyle Bellamy in Surgoinsville, Tenn. Bill died in Round Rock, Texas on Wednesday, July 24, 2002. Before moving to Oklahoma to manage The Thunderbird Ranch, he had managed Belk Department Stores in Tennessee and Kentucky. Eight years ago he and his wife, the former Exine Strang of Lavaca moved to Round Rock, Texas to be with their new granddaughter, Victoria Rose. He joined their son, Gary in the Bellamy Appraisal Company. Bill is survived by his wife of 56 years, Exine Strang Bellamy; a son, Gary and daughter-in-law, Cindy and granddaughter, Victoria Rose of Round Rock, Texas; a sister, Margaret Thomas and niece, Patsy Thomas of Rogersville, Tenn. He is also survived by many loving family members of the Lavaca Strang clan and Lapham family of Abilene, Texas. Bill attended the Johnson County Tennessee Business College. He was first lieutenant in the Army and served in World War II. He was a member of the Sebastian County Farm Bureau. He was an avid golfer and fisherman. Funeral services were held at St. Philip's United Methodist Church in Round Rock, Texas, on Saturday, July 27, 2002, conducted by the Rev. Terry Nelson under the direction of Beck Funeral Home of Austin, Texas. Committal service will be 10 a.m. Friday at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith. Frances L. Bowlin, 88, of Fort Smith, died Sunday, July 28, 2002, in Parks. Mrs. Bowlin passed away at the home of Carolyn and Gary Davis in Parks. She was a homemaker and a loving aunt to all of her nieces and nephews. She was a member of the Assembly of God, the Ladies Auxiliary and the Fort Smith Eagles Lodge. William Thomas 'Bill' Prewett
William Thomas 'Bill' Prewett, 44, of Booneville, died Sunday, July 28, 2002, in Booneville City Hospital. He was a member of the Booneville High School faculty, having been a science and math teacher for 14 years and it's principal for three years. He had just last year returned to his first love, the classroom, as a fifth-grade science teacher. He received a master's degree from Arkansas Tech University and his administration degree from Henderson State University. Prewett had served on the Booneville Water Commission, Booneville City Council, Booneville Development Corporation and was a former member of the Lions Club. He had also served as a computer co-ordinator for the high school. A member of the Heritage Addition Church of Christ in Booneville, he was actively involved with it's youth programs. Bill will be remembered for his love of students and his emphasis on high moral values. He led by example, impacting the lives of all who knew him. His devotion to his faith and his family were exemplary. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Booneville with burial at Oak Hill Cemetery under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home of Booneville. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann Prewett; two daughters, Robin Elaine Prewett and Danielle Nicole Prewett, both of the home; his mother, Mary Nell Hogg Prewett of Booneville; a sister, Teresa Ann Prewett of Little Rock; a brother, David Earl Prewett of Russellville; a granddaughter, Allyson Paige Colclasure; two nieces and two nephews.
