Stephen Markin

Stephen Levi Markin, 52, of Bentonville, Arkansas died Friday, February 3 at his home. He was born August 24, 1959 in Monette, Arkansas to Evelyn Kennedy Markin and Junior W. Markin.

He had lived in the Northwest Arkansas area for over 14 months after moving from Paragould, Arkansas. He loved singing, playing the guitar, and visiting with everyone. He was an avid reader.

He received his registered nurse degree and practiced for over 10 years. Most recently, he was a host at Olive Garden in Rogers, Arkansas. He proudly served his country in the Arkansas National Guard.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Bobby Markin.

He is survived by three sisters, Janice Robbins and her husband, Melvin, of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Marla Lewis and her husband, Terry, of Jonesboro, Arkansas, and Pam Littlefield and her husband, Jacky, of Bentonville, Arkansas, and numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, February 5 at 2:00 p.m. at New Hope Assembly of God Church in Rogers, Arkansas with Pastor James Longmate officiating.

Memorials may be sent to New Hope Assembly of God Church to the “Chairs Fund” in Rogers, Arkansas.

Martha Sturm

Martha Ellen Sturm, 80, of Fayetteville, Arkansas died Friday, February 3 at Washington Regional Hospice House in Fayetteville. She was born in Evansville, Indiana on October 4, 1931 to Anna M. Schuessler and Arthur J. Schlueter.

She was an active member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Fayetteville. She was an office manager for over eight years for Brown Adjustment Service of Fayetteville. She was also a newsletter editor for the “Fayetteville Newcomers Club.”

She had lived in the Northwest Arkansas area since 1990 after moving from Cincinnati, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and two sisters.

Martha is survived by her husband of 60 years, Cyril Sturm, of the home whom she married December 25, 1951; two sons, Lee Sturm and his wife, Penny, of Lafayette, Indiana and Nathan Sturm and his wife, Veronica, of Cincinnati, Ohio; and one granddaughter, Eva Sturm, of Cincinnati, Ohio.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 11 at 2:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville with Pastor Phil and Pastor Jan Pastor Jan Butin officiating. A reception will follow at the church.

Steven Schenkel

Steven John Schenkel, 60, of Bella Vista, Arkansas died Sunday, January 29 at Circle of Life Hospice House. He was born September 11, 1951 in Muscatine, Iowa to Jacqueline Kincaid and Casper John Schenkel.

He loved new technology and enjoyed computers both building and troubleshooting. He enjoyed watching science fiction, going to Colorado, and spending time in the Rocky Mountains. He was an avid Razorback football fan with his sons.

He had lived in the Northwest Arkansas area since 1988 after moving from Iowa. He was preceded in death by his father.

Steven is survived by his wife, Valaine Schenkel, of the home whom he married September 30, 1972; mother, Jackie Schenkel; two sons, Ryan Schenkel and his wife, Audrey, of Bella Vista and Regan Schenkel and his wife, Amanda, of Bella Vista; one brother, Nathan T. Schenkel and his wife, Leslie, of Peoria, Illinois; one sister, Jill Harder and her husband, Wayne, of Muscatine, Iowa; and five grandchildren.

No services are planned.

Memorials may be sent to Circle of Life Hospice or Cancer Research.

Gerald Mentzer

Gerald E. Mentzer, 70, of Jane, Missouri died Thursday, January 26 at Circle of Life Hospice House.

He enjoyed camping, woodworking, and bird feeding.

He is survived by his wife, Lois Mentzer; three sons, Jeffrey Mentzer, Scott Mentzer, and Ryan Mentzer; and four grandchildren.

Ted Peterson

Ted Peterson, 42, of Rogers, Arkansas died Monday, January 23 in Rogers. He was born August 4, 1969.

He is survived by his brother, Chris Walters of North Carolina; one sister, Angela Peterson of Rogers; and one uncle, Mark Johnson of Rogers.

Doris Sandlin

Doris Swinford Sandlin of Little Rock, Arkansas died Saturday, January 21 at Circle of Life Hospice House. She was born March 15, 1965 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Mary Ann Sheldon and James Leroy Swinford Rodger.

She was an office assistant and was a Non-Denominational Christian. She had lived in the Northwest Arkansas area for over 5 months after moving from Little Rock, Arkansas.

She is survivored by three children; Rodney E. Bunt Jr., Alicia and her husband, David Andrews, and Crystal Sandlin; three siblings, Rebecca and her husband, Stephen Reed, Jeffrey A. Swinford, and Randy L. Curran; and four grandchildren; Jeffrey Lynn Hale, Carrie Ann Payne, Dakota Ray Bunt, and Zachary Dennis Bunt.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Craig York

Craig York of Garfield, Arkansas died Friday, January 20 in Bentonville, Arkansas at the home of his Uncle Bill and Aunt Eva. He was born February 12, 1984 in Gravette, Arkansas.

He graduated from Grain Valley High School in Missouri where he loved running track, excelled, and won may awards. He also won several awards for his academic achievements. He enjoyed singing and spending time outdoors including canoeing and fishing. He loved spending time with children especially his nieces and nephews. He was an avid Arkansas Razorback and Kansas City Chiefs fan.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather.

He is survived by his mother, Carol Arnett of Garfield, Arkansas; two brothers, Marcus Arnett of Rogers, Arkansas and BJ Arnett of Powell, Missouri; two sisters, his twin sister, Crystal Shoup and her husband, Adam, of North Carolina and Sonya Rose of Jane, Missouri; Aunt Karen; Uncle Kelly; Uncle Bill; Aunt Eva; a wonderful grandmother, Mildred Childers and her husband, Martin, of Goodman, Missouri; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation will be on Sunday, January 22 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Epting Funeral Home in Bentonville. Graveside service will be on Monday, January 23 at 1:00 p.m. at Pineville Cemetery in Pineville, Missouri.

Memorials may be sent to Arvest Bank in his name.
