Floyd Herman Meyers
Wednesday, May 21, 2008
Floyd Herman Meyers, 80, of Highland, Ark., died May 9, at the Fulton County Hospital in Salem, Ark. He was born Dec. 15, 1927, the son of Charles and Elva (Dorsey) Meyers.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy. He moved to Sharp County from Cherry Valley, Ill., in 1968. He owned and operated the Hardy Cleaners with his wife, Betty, and also owned a moving business and a snowplowing business locally. He was a member of the American Legion, the Elks, was a Mason and a Shriner.
He is survived by: two daughters, Sally Lawton of Belvedere, Ill., and Susan Gray of Harvard, Ill.; one sister, Donna Fox of Florida; six grandchildren, Jody Robinson, Chris McKibben, Jeanna Robinson, Steven Lawton, Brian Lawton and Amanda Herndon; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife, Betty Meyers; one daughter, Pamela Raye Meyers; one son, Charles Robert Meyers; one brother, Norman Meyers; and one sister, Marjorie Kinburg.
Funeral services were held May 13 at the Tri-County Funeral Home in Highland with burial following in the Oaklawn cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of the Tri-County Funeral Home of Highland, Ark.

Reginald "Reggie" Davis

Reginald Roger "Reggie" Davis, 42, of Cherokee Village, Ark., died May 10, 2008, at his residence. He was born April 16, 1966, in Opelika, Ala., the son of Wilburn Roger Davis and Patricia A. Alderman.
Reggie lived in Jackson, Miss., most of his adult life. He was employed as a certified HVAC technician for 15 years. He moved to Cherokee Village in  May of 2007, to be near his mother. He was baptized in 1993 at Lakeshore Baptist Church in Jackson, Miss.
He is survived by: his mother and step-father, Patricia A. and Ralph E. Alderman of Cherokee Village; his father and step-mother, Wilburn R. and Barbara Davis of Baker, Fla.; one son, Roger Tyler Davis of Anchorage, Alaska; his sister, Donna Cobb of Columbus, Ga.; one step-sister, Sandi Rowell of Brandon, Miss.; one step-brother, Eddie Alderman of Jackson, Miss.; his maternal grandmother, Frances Smith of Columbus, Ga.; several grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.
He was preceded in death by: his sister, Karen Davis; his paternal grandparents, Nancy and Betie Davis; and his maternal grandfather, Granville L. Smith.
Funeral services were held May 14 in the chapel of Newsom Funeral Home, Dr. Truman Scarborough officiated. Burial followed in the Magnolia Garden in Charleston, Miss. Arrangements were under the direction of the Newsom Funeral Home of Charleston, Miss., with local arrangements by the Tri-County Funeral Home of Highland, Ark.

Eugene Owens

Eugene Owens, 84, of Calico Rock, Ark., died May 3, 2008, at the Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home. He was born May 17, 1923, to James and Augusta Vernatter Owens in Calico Rock.
As a young man he was first an auto mechanic, then owner and operator of a sawmill. In his later years he worked with cattle.
Survivors include: three sons, Jerry Owens of Dolph, Jimmy Owens of Calico Rock and Johnny Owens of Calico Rock; two daughters, Linda Bell of Calico Rock and Loretta Ducker of North Little Rock; one sister, Helen Fitzhugh of DeSoto, Kan; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; several nieces; nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by: his parents; his wife of 61 years, Colleen Jennings Owens; one son, Joseph Wayne Owens; two daughters, Brenda Haney and Roselle Stanley; two grandchildren, Joseph Wayne Owens and Shannon Stanley Grady; one great-grandchild, Jaben Grady; three brothers, Henry Owens, Japeth Owens and Ulyless Owens; five sisters, Mary Griggs, Fair Smithson, Leona Lively, Maxine Lively and Lorene Blankenship; and one son-in-law, Keith Bell.
Funeral services were held May 6 at the  Howard Funeral Home Chapel in Calico Rock with Bro. Gail Wooten officiating. Interment followed in the Roselawn cemetery in Calico Rock under the direction of Roller Crouch Funeral Home in Melbourne.
Pallbearers were Brandon Stanley, Shane Owens, Travis Owens, Dwaine Bell, Gregory Ducker, Jeremy Owens and Jason Owens.

D. Larry Paul

D. Larry Paul, 61, of Salem, Ark., son of the late David Delbert and Winnie Lee (Stroud) Paul, was born Sept. 20, 1946, at Russellville, Ark. He died May 12, 2008, at the Fulton County Hospital in Salem.
He was united in marriage to Priscilla Jean Franks on June 9, 1969, at Salem. He was a self-employed master electrician and worked several years for North Arkansas Electric Cooperative. Larry served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the VFW Post 9777 in Salem, a member of the American Legion Post 280 in Oxford, Ark., and a member of the Salem Church of Christ.
He is survived by: his wife, Priscilla Paul of Salem; a son, David Paul and wife, Karla of Mountain Home, Ark.; three grandchildren, Katie, Kodie and Zachary Paul of Mountain Home; two sisters, Catherine Paul of Spokane, Wash., and Donna Paul; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were held May 16 at the Barker Funeral Home Chapel in Salem with Bro. Winford Franks officiating. Interment followed in the Camp cemetery at Camp, Ark., with arrangements under the direction of Barker Funeral Home of Salem.
Pallbearers were Barret Spurlock, Grayson Blake, Jason Marshall, Bryan Long, Alan Whitehead and Jeffery Whitehead.
Honorary pallbearers were Euegene Whitehead, Kenny Hamby, Dennis Hamby, Greg Hamby, Troy Franks, Tommy Franks, Charlie Townsend, Terry Trivitt, Terry Langston, Carroll Prewett and Gary Teague.
Memorials preferred to the Paragould Children's Home, 5515 Walcott Road, Paragould, AR 72450.

Carol Branscum

Carol Branscum, 62 of Salado, Ark., died May 11 2008, at a Searcy hospital. She was born Jan. 17, 1946, at Oil Trough, Ark., the daughter of Franklin William and Gladys May (Totten) Pratt.
She had worked at GDX Automotive in Batesville for 23 years and was a member of the Salado Baptist Church at Salado.
Survivors include: her husband, Finis Branscum of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Kim Branscum of Batesville and Richard and Amy Branscum of Calico Rock; one daughter, Nena Branscum of Salado; three brothers, Elmer Lee Pratt of Southside and Eugene Pratt and Charlie Pratt both of Oil Trough; two sisters, Kay Sutterfield of Bradford and Ethel Pratt of Pleasant Plains; five grandchildren, Billy Branscum and Bentley Branscum both of Calico Rock, Dakota Branscum of Salado, Stephanie Kilpatrick and Brandon Kilpatrick both of Allen Chapel; several nieces; nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; and two brothers, Willie Dean Pratt and Ray Pratt.
Funeral services were held May 14 at the Maple Springs Missionary Baptist Church located at Maple Springs with Bro. Curt Howard officiating. Burial followed in the Maple Springs cemetery with arrangements under the direction of the Qualls Batesville Funeral Service of Batesville.
Pallbearers were Ronnie Hackworth, Buddy Lucy, Russell Branscum, Johnny Branscum, Alvin Branscum Jr., William Branscum, Charles Branscum and Jessie Sutterfield.
Honorary pallbearers were Dakota Branscum, Billy Branscum, Bentley Branscum and William Lucy.

Lois Margaret Britt

Lois Margaret Britt, of Salem, Ark., daughter of the late Milton Emil Anderson and Alice Pearl Holling Anderson, was born Feb. 11, 1945, in Brainard, Minn. She died May 5, 2008, at White River Medical Center in Batesville, Ark., at the age of 63.
She was united in marriage to Donald Lewis Britt Sr. on July 29, 1967.
She was employed by the Salem Public School System for many years, working in the High School Library and the office. She also owned a wood crafting business, along with her husband, called Wood Blenders Inc. She was a Lutheran.
Survivors include: her children, Ervin Hardy of Minnesota Brenda Harris of Rogers, Michael Hardy of Milacs Lake, Minn., Susan L. Britt White of Salem, Donald L. Britt Jr. of Salem, and Francine Hitzeman of: Cuba, Mo.; her brothers, Barry Kohlman and Albert Anderson, both of Twin Cities, Minn.; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by: her husband; a brother, Wayne Anderson; a grandson, Guy Britt; and her father and mother.
Memorial services were held May 17 at the Salem First Baptist Church in Salem.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Cox-Blevins Funeral Home of Salem.
