Wilson E. Porter

Wilson E. Porter, 94, of Booneville died Friday, Jan. 30, 2009, at Booneville.

He was a native of Clarksville, son of the late Guy and Tommie Porter, member of the First United Methodist Church in Booneville and Rotary Club in Booneville, served in the Navy during World War II, retired Logan County Extension Service agent, and was preceded in death by one daughter, Patricia Porter.

Survivors include his wife, Clydine Porter; one son, John David Porter of Memphis, Tenn.; one brother, Tom Porter of Fullerton, Calif.; two sisters, Doris Church of Fort Worth, Texas, and Helen Hill of Farmington; five granddaughters; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, at the First United Methodist Church in Booneville. Burial will follow at Harmony cemetery north of Clarksville under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home of Booneville.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Nora L. Mason

Nora L. Mason, 62, of Oark died Monday, Feb. 2, 2009, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.

She was a daughter of the late Walter and Ila Burnett Brock, widow of Charles Mason, Baptist, cook at Johnson Regional Medical Center, and was preceded in death by two daughters, Sherry Lynn Boen and Brenda Lee Mason.

She is survived by two sons, John Mason of Clarksville and Anthony Mason of Oark; one brother, Allison Brock of Alma; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at Oark Baptist Church with Rev. Robbie Jackson officiating.

Burial will be in Oark cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers will be Jacob Mason, Justin Edwards, Blake Kerson, Ricky Williams, Nathan Mason, and Tom Mingo.

Honorary pallbearers will be John Mason, Jimmy Suggs, Al Brock, Christopher Boen, Roy Stepp, Philip Maag Jr., Anthony Mason, and Odell Boen.

Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at the Oark Baptist Church prior to the service.

Billy C. Walker

Billy C. Walker, 77, of Scranton died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009, in Clarksville.

He was a native of Dublin, son of the late Charles Houston and Ethel Tritt Walker, retired dairy farmer, and was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Avis Rogers Walker.

Survivors include one daughter, Deborah Tencleve and husband, Kenneth, of Scranton; one son, Roger Walker of Scranton; one sister, Bobbye Walker Newman of Scranton; two grandsons, Andrew Tencleve and wife, Sarah, and Stephen Tencleve; and one great-grandchild, Kort Tencleve.

Graveside memorial services and burial were at 11 a.m. Monday, March 2, at Ware's Chapel cemetery with Rev. Herb Tilley officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home of Paris.

Byron M. Piersol

Byron Milton Piersol, 75, of Clarksville died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009, at his home.

He was a native of Murphytown, W. Va., son of the late Byron Guy and Annie Kathaleen Schaad Piersol, retired construction worker, Korean War veteran having served in both Korea and Japan, member of Full Gospel Fellowship, and preceded in death by one brother, Frank Edward Piersol.

He is survived by one brother, Hilton McKeown of Clarksville; and several cousins in Virginia and West Virginia.

Graveside services and burial were at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, at Shady Grove cemetery with Dr. Jack Glaze officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers were Cecil Rhodes, Bill Reidy, Johnathan Howard, Lonnie R. Wilson, John Clark Jr., J. C. Clark, Don W. Morgan and David Harvey.

Honorary pallbearers were Berryl and Esther Wolfson, Alice Auterson, John Clark Sr. and members of Full Gospel Fellowship.

Clarence H. Rofkahr

Clarence Henry Rofkahr, 77, of Lamar died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2009, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.

He was a carpenter, native of Hartman, son of the late John Joseph and Mary Ann McMillian Rofkahr, and was preceded in death by two sisters, Christina Rofkahr and Annie Dahlem; and two brothers, Lawerence Rofkahr and Johnny Rofkahr.

He is survived by three daughters, Rhonda Marvel of Altus, Sherry Rofkahr of Fort Smith, and Sheila Rogers of Lamar; one son, Randy Rofkahr of Clarksville; one sister, Marie Lingar of Hartman; one brother, Frank Rofkahr of Hartman; eight grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

Graveside services and burial were at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at West Mount Zion cemetery with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Cody Mayfield, Norm Clayborn, Derrick McCartney, Wes Marvel, David Clayborn, and Harv Williams.

Cleota Jean Helms

Cleota Jean Helms, 65, of Dover, mother of Daniel Helms of Lamar, died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2009, at Stella Manor Nursing Home in Russellville.

She was a native of El Dorado Springs, Mo., daughter of the late Cleo and Mary Louise Sizemore Martin, factory employee, member of Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall in El Dorado Springs, Mo., and preceded in death by one daughter, Darla Steward.

Survivors include her husband, William Helms; one other son, Scott Helms of Conway; three brothers, Jack Martin, Don Martin, and Darrell Martin, all of Missouri; and four grandchildren.

The body will be cremated and a private service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Ira Alvin Skaggs

Ira Alvin Skaggs, 72, of Scranton died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009, at Paris Health and Rehabilitation.

He was a native of Clarksville, son of the late Sidney and Annie Rose Skaggs, graduate of Clarksville High School, retired master sergeant with the U. S. Air Force after 22 years of service and also retired from IBM after 15 years of service, member and past deacon of First Baptist Church in Texas, 32nd degree Mason, member of the Shriners, and was preceded in death by four brothers, Farris Lee, Ernest (Bob), Elmer Hoyt, and Vanis Bee Skaggs.

Survivors include his wife, Murieline Skaggs; two daughters, Sonya Cavaleski and husband, Al, of Concord, N. C., and Rhonda Nelson and husband, Bob, of Rockingham, N. C.; four sisters, Hazel Farris, Gladys Gipson, and Edith Chrisman, all of Clarksville, and Roseanna Woodard of Sallisaw, Okla.; one brother, Lester Skaggs of Clarksville; and four grandchildren, Megan Cavaleski, Kaitlyn Cavaleski, and Everett Cavaleski, all of Concord, N. C., and Robert Nelson of Rockingham, N. C.

Graveside memorial services and burial with full military rites were at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at Oakland cemetery in Clarksville with John Ballard officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Mary E. Kolb

Mary Edith Sandlin Kolb, 84, of Fort Smith died Friday, Feb. 20, 2009, in Springdale.

She was a native of Coal Hill, daughter of the late Albert and Daisy Sandlin, widow of Guy Kolb, charter member of the West-Ark Church of Christ and the Ladies Quilting Group, and an employee of the Sebastian County Tax Collector's office for 15 years.

Survivors include one son, Steve Kolb of Fort Smith; one brother, Bill Sandlin of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two grandchildren, Stephanie Kear of Springdale and Trevor Kolb of Fort Smith; and three great-grandchildren, Tiffany, Taylor and Tanner Kear.

Funeral was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith with Chris Bingham and Larry Todd officiating. Burial was at Srygley cemetery in Coal Hill.

Pallbearers were Doug Bartlett, Jimmy Roughley, David Greene, Jack Berdan, Jeff Kear and Taylor Kolb.
