Orville T. White

Orville Thomas White, 90, of Hartman died Thursday, July 17, 2008, at his home.

He was a native of Booneville, son of the late Thomas and Sidney Smith White, member of Hartman United Methodist Church, retired bus driver for the city of Fort Smith, and was preceded in death by two sisters, Minnie Wisley and Velma Adams.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Peters White; three nieces, Nora Jean Boatright of Van Buren, and Lois Peterson and Wanda Kay Adams, both of Maryland; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Graveside services and burial were at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 19, at the Kendall cemetery with Rev. Regina Turner officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Reva Roberta Dotson

Reva Roberta Dotson, 92, of Clarksville died Thursday, July 17, 2008, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.

She was a native of Waverly, Kan., daughter of the late Guy and Carrie Copple Ellis, member of East Mount Zion Trinity Baptist Church, widow of Vesta B. Dotson, and was preceded in death by one son, Donald Hile; and one stepson, Jack Dotson.

She is survived by two daughters, Jerry Lou Beattie of Clarksville and Sandra Sue Reddell of Kansas City, Kan.; two sons, Lawrence D. Hile of Sanford, N. C., and Dal Bryan Hile of Temple City, Calif.; one stepdaughter, Jeanette Kelley of Walnut Grove, Mo.; three stepsons, Gordon Dotson of Morrisville, Mo., Paul Dotson of Wichita, Kan., and Arthur (Buzzy) Dotson of Walnut Grove, Mo.; 22 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, at East Mount Zion Trinity Baptist Church with Rev. Robbie Jackson officiating.

Burial was in Mossville cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers were James Reddell, Mark Beattie, Richard Hile, Gary Hile, James Kelley, and Jerry Kelley.

Honorary pallbearer was Bill Mason.

Johnnie B. Skidgel

Johnnie Bell Skidgel, 74, of Clarksville died Saturday, July 19, 2008, at Ozark Nursing Home.

She was a daughter of the late Charles and Lily Shoot Nickolson and a native of Vaveland.

Survivors are her husband, Thomas A. Skidgel; two daughters, Linda Kimbriel of Deatsville, Ala., and Lisa Skidgel of Clarksville; four sons, Jimmy Duncan of Oakdale, Calif., Michael Duncan and Richard Duncan, both of the Flat Rock Community, and Terry Skidgel of Clarksville; two sisters, Norma Haire of Star City and Lola Caliote of Rio Loso, Calif.; one brother, Joe Nickolson of Star City; 13 grandchildren, Steven Duncan, Stephanie Palmore, Michael Duncan, Heather Foster, Aaron Skidgel, Ashley Duncan, Jennifer Duncan, Shadow Skidgel, Jimmy Duncan, Chance Skidgel, Jake Duncan, Alex Skidgel, and Shane Peterson; and 11 great-grandchildren, David Duncan, Michael Foster, Jamie Duncan, Caleb Palmore, Levi Duncan, Alexis Skidgel, Cohen Palmore, Thomas Skidgel, Jessie Duncan, Justice Casto, and Jermiah Mee.

Graveside services and burial were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 22, at Shady Grove cemetery with Rev. David Zeiler officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Michael Duncan, Aaron Skidgel, Ashley Duncan, Shadow Skidgel, Jimmy Duncan, Jake Duncan, and Alex Skidgel.

Heartsill G. McSwain

Heartsill G. McSwain, 91, of Fort Smith died Monday, July 21, 2008, at Fort Smith.

He was owner of City Trading Post for 35-plus years, member of Spradling Avenue Baptist Church in Fort Smith, Mason, member of the Grotto, dealer in Coca Cola collectibles, and was preceded in death by his first wife, Irene Dillahunty McSwain; one brother, Dr. H. T. McSwain; and one sister, Drucilla Geisel.

Survivors include his wife, Gean Harman McSwain; one daughter, Betty McSwain of Fort Smith; one son, Thomas McSwain of Fort Smith; one sister, Ruth Brasuell of Eugene, Ore.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 25, at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark with Rev. Harold Walker officiating. Burial will be in Highland cemetery at Ozark.

Pallbearers will be Charles Seratt, Joe Holmesley, Doyle Dillahunty, Chaz Dowe, Dean Castleberry, John Dillahunty, and Jody Taylor.

Sue Pye

Sue Pye, 83, of London died Thursday, May 29, 2008, at Mitchell's Nursing Home in Danville.

She was a native of London, daughter of the late Julius and Artie Jane Hickey Baumann, widow of Emery E. Pye, member of Lamar Baptist Church, Order of the Eastern Star at Lamar and Extension homemakers club, and was preceded in death by one daughter, Teresa Thomas.

Survivors include two sons, Quentin N. Pye and wife, Linda, of Weatherford, Okla., and Artis Lynn Pye and wife, Carol, of Plainview; five grandchildren, Jason Pye of Weatherford, Okla., Jeremy Pye and wife, Li Bai, of Gainesville, Fla., Matthew Pye and wife, Heidi, of Searcy, Christyl Rowland and husband, Chris, of London, and Deanna Arivett and husband, Brock, of Nashville, Tenn.; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Katie Baumann Whorton of Russellville.

Funeral was at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 31, at Humphrey Funeral Service Chapel with burial at East Point cemetery at London.

Edith N. East

Edith N. Rhett East, 69, of Prescott Valley, Ariz., formerly of Clarksville, died May 28, 2008, in Arizona.

She is survived by her husband of 30 years, James East; one daughter, Sherry Berberich; two sons, Rickey Matthews and Danny Matthews; one brother, Leonard Rhett of Grovespring, Mo.; and numerous stepchildren, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Friday, May 30, in Dewey, Ariz.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Arville Singleton

Arville Ray Singleton, 97, of the Flat Rock Community died Sunday, June 1, 2008, at his home.

He was a native of Moreland, son of the late Andrew and Anna Elizabeth Duvall Singleton, United States Army veteran of World War II having served in the European Theatre, peach grower and farmer, owner and operator of Singleton Orchards at Flat Rock, attended the Baptist and Assembly of God churches, and was preceded in death by three brothers, Troy Singleton, Leonard Singleton and Roy Singleton; and four sisters, Ella Mae Singleton, Della Whorton, Kathleen Smith and an infant sister.

Survivors include one sister, Hazel Singleton of London; seven nephews, Leonard Whorton, Jack Whorton, Don Whorton, and Larry Whorton, all of London, Kenneth Whorton of Knoxville, and Bob Whorton and Roy E. Singleton, both of Russellville, one niece, Bonnie Meimerstorf of Russellville; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Graveside services and burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, at the Shiloh cemetery at Atkins with Rev. Ronnie Birge officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Joe Kramer

Joe Kramer, 77, of Alma, a native of Coal Hill, died Monday, May 26, 2008, at his home.

He was a son of the late Frank and Annie Glanzman Kramer, 1948 graduate of St. Anne's Academy in Fort Smith, U. S. Army veteran of the KoreanWar, employee of Donrey Media Group for 36 years in Arkansas, Indiana, Oklahoma, Nevada, and North Dakota and was past president of the Oklahoma Press Association. He was ordained a deacon on May 31, 1998, at St. Andrew's Cathedral in Little Rock and served as a deacon at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Van Buren, a Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus and was a member of the board of directors for Compassionate Ministries. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Frank, Paul, Herman, Bernard and Willie Kramer; and one sister, Margaret Royalty.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Elizabeth Dahlem Kramer; four children, Linda Taber and Nancy Scherrey, both of Fort Smith, and Bob and Kanessa Kramer, both of Cincinnati, Ohio; two sisters, Mary Bowling of Fort Smith and Martha Kohler of Beloit, Kan.; seven grandchildren, Bryan and Gwen Taber, Tom Jr. and Michael Scherrey, and Justin, McKinley and Kennedy Kramer; and one great-grandson, Cory Henderson.

Rosary was at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 29, at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Van Buren where funeral mass was recited at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 30, by Father Jack Vu. Burial was in the U. S. National cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to St. Michael's Catholic Church Building Fund, 1019 Pointer Trail, Van Buren, AR 72956 or to the Compassionate Ministries, 3812 Kibler Road, Van Buren, AR 72956.
