Arville E. Kraus

Arville Ellsworth Kraus, 81, of Overland Park, Kan., died Saturday, March 10, 2007, in Overland Park, Kan.

A native of Clarksville, he was a son of the late Arville A. and Beulah Williams Kraus, 1943 graduate of Clarksville High School, attended the University of the Ozarks, served in the U. S. Army Air Corps from 1944-46 and was recalled to active duty by the Air Force from 1950-51 attaining the rank of staff sergeant. He received a bachelor of arts degree in 1950 from the University of Arkansas, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. His lifelong career in public health included 15 years with the state of Arkansas and 22 years with the federal government in Chicago, Ill., and Kansas City, Mo. prior to retiring in 1988. He was preceded in death by one sister, Mildred Freeman, and one brother, Jack Kraus.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Carolyn Natho Kraus; one daughter and son-in-law, Heidi and Mark Bierly of Hutchinson, Kan.; one son, David Kraus of Schenectady, N. Y.; and one grandchild, Geneva Kraus of Schenectady, N. Y.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 15, at the First Presbyterian Church in Clarksville with burial in Oakland cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the University of the Ozarks, 415 North College Avenue, Clarksville, AR 72830 or First Presbyterian Church, P O. Box 1068, Clarksville, AR 72830.

E. G. Buchanan Jr.

E. G. (Bo) Buchanan Jr., 44, of Coal Hill died Thursday, March 1, 2007.

He was a native of Dallas, Texas, and son of Carmalleta McLaughlin and E. G. Buchanan Sr.

Survivors include two sons, Smokey and Ivan Buchanan of Coal Hill; one daughter and son-in-law, Kristina and Brian Smith of Kansas City, Kan.; one sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Timothy Trent of Coal Hill; one brother, Donnie Buchanan of Coal Hill; four grandchildren of Durant, Okla.; grandmother, Mable Buchanan of Tuskahoma, Okla.; one niece, Allissa Engleman of Coal Hill; one nephew, Steven Trent of Coal Hill; two great-nieces; and two great-nephews.

A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 5, at the First Baptist Church in Tuskahoma, Okla. Burial was in A. L. Stephens cemetery at Clayton, Okla.

Pallbearers were Ronnie Engleman, Jerry, Nick and Floyed Buchanan, Daniel Trent, and Nathan Rainey.

Ernest G. Bowen

Ernest Gordon Bowen, 76, of Wesley, son of Hester Ann Bowen of Clarksville, died Thursday, March 8, 2007, at Wesley.

A native of Mountain Top, he was a son of the late Herbert R. Bowen, farmer, attended Primitive Baptist Church, U. S. Marine veteran having served in the Korean War, and was preceded in death by two sons, Gordon Dwain and Dennis Ricky Bowen; and one sister, Faye Sory.

Other survivors include his wife, Wetha Shelton Bowen; one daughter, Darla Bloomdahl of Winter Park, Fla.; three sons, Darrell, Donald and Brian Bowen, all of Wesley; two brothers, Francis Bowen of Tecumseh, Okla., and Harold Bowen of Wesley; five grandchildren, Jennifer Bowen Neal of Wesley, Dee Ann Bowen Hunt of Kincaid, Kan., Chris Bloomdahl of Prairie Grove, and Nick and Nat Bloomdahl of Winter Park, Fla.; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark with Elder James Isaacs officiating. Burial was in Morgan Hill cemetery.

Pallbearers were Chris and Nick Bloomdahl, Mike Neal, Randy Bowen, Larry Buttram, and Gene Glenn.

John C. Taylor

John C. Taylor, 88, of Clarksville died Monday, March 5, 2007, at his home.

He was a native of Monroe, La., son of the late F. L. and Mary Elizabeth Taylor, Methodist, World War II Marine veteran, licensed pilot, and was director of operations of Delta Airlines prior to his retirement. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Bobbie Temple Taylor; and one sister, Juanita Griffin.

Survivors include one sister, Dorothy Bilon of Sherwood; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services and burial were at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 8, at Kendall cemetery with Rev. Doug Criss officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund, P. O. Box 535, Clarksville, AR 72830, Kendall cemetery Association, 6798 Highway 64, Hartman, AR 72840, or the charity of the donor's choice.

Margie Marie Payne

Margie Marie Payne, 84, of Coal Hill died Thursday, March 8, 2007, at Ozark Nursing Home.

A native of the Spadra Community, she was a daughter of the late John and Margie May Cullom Muldoon, and a member of the Clarksville First Baptist Church.

She is survived by three daughters, Nancy Schirk of Pennsylvania, and Lori Pastor and Margie Hook, both of California; one son, Marty Payne of Coal Hill; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, at the Clarksville First Baptist Church with Rev. Darrell Bridges officiating.

Burial was at Oakland cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Tommy Joe Taylor

Tommy Joe Taylor, 59, of Springdale, formerly of Clarksville, died Monday, March 12, 2007, at Springdale Health and Rehabilitation.

He was a mechanic, Baptist, and son of the late Vester H. and Hazel Ira Bean Taylor.

He is survived by two brothers, V. H. Taylor and wife, Vera, and Billy C. Taylor and wife, Myrtle, all of Springdale; three nephews, Lonnie Taylor, Mike Taylor and Lance Taylor, all of Springdale; and two nieces, Marilyn Harris of Van Buren and Sandra Wilt of Siloam Springs.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 14, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robbie Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Mount Airy cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Mike Taylor, Lance Taylor, Billy Dale Harris, D. J. Turner, Larry Griffith and Mark Tumbleson.

Warren J. Palmer

Warren Joseph Palmer, 77, of Lamar died Tuesday, March 6, 2007, at his home.

He was a son of the late David Clint and Mary Ann Sams Palmer, sawmill employee, salvage yard owner, and was preceded in death by one son, Ricky Lynn Palmer; one brother, Henry Palmer; and one sister, Patsy Jane Palmer.

Survivors include his wife, Hattie Mae Wilson Palmer; two sons, Eugene Palmer and Gerald Wayne Palmer, both of Lamar; three brothers, William Palmer, George Palmer, and David Palmer, all of Lamar; six sisters, Hannah Hutchinson, Clara Wilson, Alice Harmon, and Joyce Vest, all of Lamar, Maude Holman of Clarksville, and Mary Hale of Hartman; ten grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral was at 10 a.m. Friday, March 9, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Herb Tilley and Rev. Robert Williams officiating. Burial was in Holman cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Keith McCarley, K. T. Turner, Ryan Turner, Rodney Palmer, Willie Palmer, Steve Hale, Gary Crotts and Robert Nichols.

Honorary pallbearers were Joe Palmer, Josh Palmer, Shane Palmer, Troy Palmer, Brittany Palmer, Jerrod Palmer, Payton Palmer, Naomie Dean, Sherry Daniels, Jessie Parker, Glenn Crotts, Loy Park and nephews.

William J. Thompson

William Joseph Thompson, 81, of Clarksville died Monday, March 12, 2007, at his home.

A native of the Spadra Community, he was a son of the late Joseph and Edna Campbell Thompson, veteran of World War II and the Korean War, retired concrete finisher, attended the Light House Tabernacle Church in Fort Smith, and was preceded in death by one son, James Ray Thompson; and two brothers, Leon Broach and David Thompson.

Survivors include his wife, Pansy Rylee Thompson; two sons, Darrell Thompson of Lamar and Robert Thompson of Clarksville; six sisters, Wanda Low of Clarksville, Delma Pounders and Sarah Neidigh, both of El Cajon, Calif., Lillie East of Arvada, Colo., Imogene Nausin of Fairville, Calif., and Marilyn Rosales of Fort Collins, Colo.; one brother, Paul East of Fort Collins, Colo.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 17, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with Rev. Frank Prator officiating. The body was cremated.

Memorials may be made to Hospice, 22 Sherwood, Clarksville, AR 72830.
