Marvalene McAlister
Marvalene Brown McAlister, 79, of Clarksville passed away Saturday, May 26, 2007, losing her 14 year battle with cancer.
She was born May 13, 1928, at Minnow Creek, AR, to Claude and Pauline Allen Brown. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Billy Brown of California. Marvalene was a devoted daughter, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt who dedicated her life to her family. She was a member of the Church of Christ. Any person who entered her life was accepted as a member of her family of friends, enjoying her talents as a farmer and gardener. She will be unbelievably missed by all who knew and loved her. Marvalene loved her family, church friends, and farm animals dearly. She worked until dark in her garden slowing down only because the cancer wore her down. Her favorite thing to do in the later years was to mow her yard and ride her mower to Julie's to see her great-grandchildren. Marvalene has followed Lamar School sports since the 1960s when Darrell played and made her last game in January of this year to watch Matt play.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Katy and Darrell Plank of Lamar; one granddaughter and husband, Julie and Bobby Moore of Clarksville; two great-grandsons who she helped raise and nurture, Ryan and Matt Jones of Clarksville; three step-great-grandchildren, Kasey, Caleb and Heath Moore of Russellville; one sister, Wilma Qualls Graham of Little Rock; nieces and nephews, Randy and Barbara Qualls, Reed and Susie Qualls Thompson, Ronnie and Brenda Qualls, Ricky Qualls, and Brenda and Becky Brown; and several cousins.
The family wishes to extend a special thank-you to all of their brothers and sisters in Christ, to her caregivers, Denise Rogers, Jo Ann Clark, Marcie Martin, Jim and Elsie Allen, Doyle Periman, Hospital Home Health Hospice, Betty Dickard, Dr. Jack Sterberg, Dr. Jack Patterson, Countryside Manor and the ladies at the Church of Christ for the special care devoted to Marvalene during her lifetime.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 29, at the Church of Christ on Main Street in Clarksville with John Ballard, Todd Rabalais, Dr. Marc Muncy and Matt Jones officiating
Burial was in Minnow Creek cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers were Larry Holman, Dr. Marc Muncy, Alan Martin, Steve Ammons, Larry Conner and Kenny Bridgewater.
Honorary pallbearers were Jim Clark, Duane Steele, Zearl Watson, Don Sexton, Son James, Bob Frost, Kevin Pattermann, Dr. Jack Patterson and Lonnie Qualls.
Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Monday, May 28, at Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Bill M. Landrum
Bill M. Landrum, 80, of Clarksville died Tuesday, May 22, 2007, at Clarksville Convalescent Home.
He was a native of Paragould, son of the late Charles Vincent and Ima Jean Cashon Landrum, 1944 graduate of Paragould High School, Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and served in the Pacific, attended University of Arkansas and Louisiana State University School of Banking at Baton Rouge, La. He began his banking career at the National Bank of Commerce at Paragould, served as bank manager of Mississippi County Bank at Joiner for eight years, and executive vice president of Citizens Bank at Booneville and of Arkansas State Bank at Clarksville for several years.
He served on the board of Booneville Library, Methodist Church and Little Creek Country Club, was active in Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, former president of the Rotary Club at Joiner and Booneville and past president of the Booneville Chamber of Commerce.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Joseph Landrum.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Glenda Jones Landrum; one daughter, Megan Howard and husband, Karl, of Ridgecrest, Calif.; one son, William H. Landrum of Clarksville; one sister, Emma Jean Layl of Piggott; one brother, Robert Landrum and wife, Dorothy, of Hot Springs; one sister-in-law, Jean Landrum of Germantown, Tenn.; one brother-in-law, Dennis Jones of Utica, Mich.; three grandchildren, Alice Landrum and Sherri Kendall, both of Booneville, and Traci Odom and husband, Cory, and their children, Kaleb and Braxton Odom, all of Bastrop, Texas.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Friday, May 25, at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Doug Criss officiating. The body was cremated. Arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Harold Chapman, Larry Morse, Dr. Powell Smith, Harold Lewis, Dick Silvy, Bill White, and Bill Porter.

David K. Patton
David K. Patton, 76, of Ozone, formerly of Fayetteville, died Monday, May 28, 2007, at Ozone.
He was a 1st lieutenant in the U. S. Army during the Korean War, a staff photographer for the University of Arkansas Razorbacks starting with the champion season of 1964 and retiring in 1996, son of the late Ted and Virginia Kay Patton, and was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack Williams and Jimmie Williams.
Survivors include his wife, Reba Patton; one daughter, DeVina Hopson of Fayetteville; one son, David A. Patton of Ozone; one sister, JoAnn Thompson of Amarillo, Texas; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 2, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home. The body was cremated.

George Alfred Riley
George Alfred Riley, 81, of Van Buren died Sunday, May 27, 2007, in Fort Smith.
Survivors include his wife, Beulah Riley; two daughters, Jeannie Christianson and Jackie Riley, both of Van Buren; one son, Bill Riley of Van Buren; one sister, Thelma Moore of Cecil; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services and burial were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 29, at the Hartman cemetery with Wayne Hoelcel officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Jesse B. Lasater
Jesse B. (J. B.) Lasater, 76, brother of Juanita Atkins of Clarksville, died May 15, 2007, at his home in Panama City, Fla.
The son of Eugene and Bessie Lasater, he was born in Ft. Gibson, Okla., and graduated from Hartman High School. He served 26 years in the U. S. Air Force, was a veteran of the Vietnam War and recipient of the Purple Heart.
Other survivors include his wife, Mary Louise Lasater; three sons, Vaughn Eugene, Mark Edward and John Wayne; two grandsons; and two granddaughters, all of Panama City, Fla.; and one brother, Tom Lasater of Oklahoma City, Okla.
A memorial service was held May 26 at Kent Forest Chapel with burial at Evergreen Memorial in Panama City, Fla.
Leta R. Reames
Leta R. Reames, 44, of Clarksville died Monday, May 28, 2007, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Clarksville, 1981 graduate of Lamar High School, Baptist, realtor/sales associate at Re/Max Plus, member of Harley Owners Group, MLS Committee of Johnson County Realtors, and Johnson County Chamber of Commerce, licensed beautician and former owner of Exit 55 Grill.
Survivors include her husband, David Reames; mother, Gwenith Holman of Lamar; father, Lawrence Holman of Paris; seven sisters, Gwenda Higby, Rita Brooks, Debbie Ramsey and Janie Martin, all of Lamar, and Sue Harmon, JoAnn Wood, and Joy Wyles, all of Clarksville; seven brothers, James Ray Higby, Ronald Dale Holman, Dean Holman, Roger Holman, Jimmy Holman, Terry Holman, and Rocky Holman, all of Lamar; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Claudine and Mick Reames of Paris;
numerous nieces and nephews including Lindsey Brooks and Brittany Brooks, both of Clarksville and Jason Reames of Clarksville; and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with Rev. Clyde Vire officiating. Burial will be in Lamar cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Mark Simpson, Clayton Case, Eric Kilgore, Ricky Harp, Michael Harp, Kevin Massey, and Kenny Talley.
Loretta Kay Pledger
Loretta Kay Pledger, 63, of Clarksville died Thursday, May 24, 2007, at her home.
She was a member of the Jamestown Assembly of God Church, daughter of the late Olen Benson and Lola S. Pitts Frost, and was preceded in death by one grandson, Zachary Parker.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Rev. Amos Pledger; one daughter, Melissa Eddy and husband, Nelson, of Clarksville; two sons, Charlie Pledger and wife, Tammy, and Paul Pledger and wife, Kim, all of Clarksville; one sister, Anita June Warkentin of Clarksville; seven grandchildren, Melinda Keeton of Cecil, Matt Pledger, Whitney Pledger, Derrick Pledger, Bailey Pledger, Ariel Eddy, and Braxton Eddy, all of Clarksville; and one great-grandchild, Alexis Keeton of Cecil.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 26, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home with Rev. David Zeiler, Rev. Tony Burrow and Rev. Robbie Jackson officiating. Burial was in Coal Hill cemetery.
Pallbearers were Harold (Sonny) Barron, Mike Williams, Jack Heil, and grandsons.
