Dessie Lorene Ross

Dessie Lorene Wells Ross, 74, of Clarksville passed away Saturday, June 8, 2002, at Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith.
She was a native of Clarksville, daughter of the late Walton Rainey and Dessie Love Wells, 1946 graduate of Clarksville High School, and a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and Spadra Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Bennie Ross; one daughter and son-in-law, Betty Ann and Lee Roy Warren of Clarksville; two grandsons and spouses, Steve and Tracy Warren of Coal Hill and Richard and Tammy Warren of Clarksville; three great-grandchildren, Morgan Warren and Katie Warren, both of Coal Hill, and Michaela Warren of Houston, Texas; and one step-great-grandchild, Angie Stewart of Clarksville.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, at Westside Full Gospel Church with Rev. J. W. McEntyre officiating.
Burial was in West Mount Zion cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers were Spike Feikema, Gary Patterson, Rusty Hardgrave, Wesley Kendrick, David Handley, and John (Bud) Morrow.
Honorary pallbearers were Bill Nowotny and Frank Wacker.

Eileen Griffith

Funeral for Eileen Griffith, 81, of Fort Smith, who died Sunday, June 9, 2002, in Fort Smith will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, at First Christian Church of Fort Smith with burial in the Srygley cemetery at Coal Hill. Arrangements are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
Memorials may be made to First Christian Church, 3600 Free Ferry, Fort Smith, AR 72903.
She was a retired secretary for the Fort Smith Public School System serving Beard, Cavanaugh, Cornell and Kimmons Junior High and was the recipient of the "Golden Apple Award" which is an award normally given to teachers only, member of the First Christian Church where she sang in the choir, volunteered, and visited shut-ins, member of the Daughters of the American Revoluntionary War, was the widow of Jack H. Griffith, and was preceded in death by one brother, George L. Morgan.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Connie E. and Steve Thomas of Fort Smith; one son and daughter-in-law, Jack M. and Sherry Griffith of Lamar; three brothers, Earl Morgan of Punta Gorda, Fla., Carl Morgan of Lamar, and Harold Morgan of St. Charles, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

John Mayfield

John (Dub) Mayfield, 69, of Altus died Thursday, June 6, 2002, at his home.
A native of Coal Hill, he was a son of the late Fate and Halie Hard Mayfield, a Baptist, Army veteran, and retired Whirlpool employee.
Survivors include his widow, Pauline Gray Mayfield; four sons, Donnie Mayfield, Randy Mayfield, Ricky Mayfield, and Billy Joe Mayfield, all of Altus; one sister, Georgia Mae Wolf; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 8, at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark with Rev. Forrest Wayne Primm officiating. Burial was in Coal Hill cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Scott Mayfield, Nate McCillan, Rueben Gray, Shawn Kirkpatrick, Michael Jeffers, and David Jeffers.
Honorary pallbearers were Jerry Jeffers, Justin Mayfield, and Steve Kranc.

Louise L. Reimers

Louise L. Reimers, 85, of Fremont, Neb., mother of Mrs. Robert (Bonnie) Hula of Clarksville, died Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at Fremont Area Medical Center.
A native of Johnstown, Neb., she was a former resident of the Ainsworth, Neb., area and Tekamah, Neb., graduate of Ainsworth High School, former employee of Herzberg's and Gales in the women's clothing department, widow of John Reimers, and was preceded in death by one daughter, Kathy Groves.
She is survived by three other daughters, JoAnne Nelson of Fremont, Neb., Linda Simonson of Omaha, Neb., and Nancy Ninneman of Lincoln, Neb.; one brother, Bennie Valentine of California; one son-in-law, Dennis Groves of Ohio; 16 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 7, at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Leland Foreman officiating. Burial was in Memorial cemetery under the direction of Lattin-Dugan-Chambers Funeral Chapel.

Margaret S. Morrow

Margaret S. Morrow, 88, of Clarksville died Thursday, June 6, 2002, at the Dardanelle Nursing Center.
A native of Conway, she was a daughter of the late Charley and Nora Rogers Burns, former manager of the Marina Inn in Russellville, a Baptist, and was preceded in death by her first husband, Bill E. Morrow; one daughter, Elizabeth Hepp; and three brothers, Harold Burns, Robert Burns, and Carl Burns.
Survivors include her husband, George Morrow; one brother, Charles Burns of Clarksville; numerous grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
A memorial graveside service was held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 10, at the Rankin cemetery in Russellville with Rev. Bobby Loyd officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.

Ronald W. Olson

Ronald Wayne (Ron) Olson, 30, of Fort Campbell, Ky., brother of Rudy Olson and grandson of Ruby Hunter, both of Clarksville, died Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at his home.
He was a native of North Ridge, Calif., son of Larry Herbert Olson of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Patricia Hunter Johnston of Roland, Okla., and was serving in the U. S. Army at Fort Campbell, Ky.
Other survivors include his widow, Danette Hale Olson; one stepson, Hayden Daniel of the home; one stepdaughter, Lauren Daniel of the home; two brothers, Erick Olson of Fort Smith and Chaz Olson of Georgia; and paternal grandmother, Beulah Jensen of Colorado Springs, Colo.
The body was cremated. Arrangements were under the direction of Lamb Funeral Home of Hopkinsville, Ky.

Vernon Lee Elkins

Vernon Lee Elkins, 77, died May 28, 2002, in Loomas, Calif.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Judy; and one sister, Violet Bynum.
Survivors are his widow, Lillian Elkins; two sons, Vernon Elkins Jr. and Steve Elkins, both of California; one daughter, Brenda Rienolds of California; mother, Mayme Elkins of Hartman; three brothers, Don Elkins of Hartman, Bob Elkins of Searcy, and Bill Elkins of Van Buren; and one sister, Betty Resimont Simms of Clarksville.
Funeral was Monday, June 3, in California.

David Overbey

David Overbey, 62, of Toronto, Canada, died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998.
He was the son of the late David Arch and Oacie Manning Overbey of Lamar, native of Detroit, Mich., educated at Wayne State University, a film critic on TV in California, a teacher at Tulane University, a journalist, worked with film specializing in Asia, and a filmfest programmer for Toronto since 1977.
He is survived by an aunt, Catherine Cullins of Lamar; and several cousins including George Overbey Jr. of Lamar.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Jerry Lee Kirby

Jerry Lee Kirby, 55, of Ozark, brother of Patricia Patterson of Clarksville, died Monday, Dec. 21, 1998, at Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith.
He was a retired foreman with Arkansas Valley Electric, Mason, member of the Shriners, Methodist, and son of the late Gerald Lee Kirby.
Other survivors include two daughters, Elizabeth Ann Kirby of Portales, N. M., and Catherine Allison Kirby of Ozark; mother, Venice Wheeless Kirby of Ozark; one brother, Jim Kirby of Barling; and three grandchildren, Zachary Jordan Kirby and Megan Nicole Turner, both of Ozark, and Kelsey Elizabeth Teague of Portales, N. M.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23, at Grenades Chapel with Rev. Ted Darling officiating.
Burial will be in Jackson cemetery under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark.
Active pallbearers will be Ed Wilkinson, Dee Kirby, David Davidson, Robert Ritchie, Ted Skolarski, and Mike Harris.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Farris, Kenneth Ross, Ike Pointer, Burl Vaught, Guy Foster, L. D. Holland, Vivian Holland, Bill Denniston, Gary Turner, and Larry Hardcastle.
