Opal Hammond

Opal Keith Hammond, 85, of Clarksville died Monday, June 21, 2004, at her home.
She was a native of the Spadra Community, graduate of Paris High School, member of First Baptist Church, former co-owner of Hammond Hardware Store in Clarksville for 25 years, and widow of Arlis R. Hammond.
Survivors are one daughter, Sheila Bryant of Clarksville; one son, Keith Hammond of Clarksville; one brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Vivian Keith of Clarksville; one grandson, Brian Hammond of Clarksville; and one niece and spouse, Shirley and Rick Richardson of Ozark.
Graveside services and burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 23, at Oakland cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Mrs. Betty R. Stephens

Mrs. Betty Ruth Stewart Stephens, 65, of Clarksville died Thursday, July 1, 1999, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was a nurse's aide, widow of Wayne Moss Stephens, and daughter of the late Martin R. Stewart.
She is survived by three daughters, Vickie Hall of Altus and Ella Bullock and Martina Brown, both of Clarksville; three sons, Larry W. Baker and James Hirtler, both of Clarksville, and Wayne Stephens Jr. of Hot Springs; mother, Hartrue Ogden Stewart of Clarksville; one brother, Clarence (Bud) Stewart of Van Buren; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Monday, July 5, at Roller-Cox Chapel with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Burial was in Lone Pine cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Kevin Brown, Wayne Stephens Jr., Danny Maes, Andy Pelts, Adam Walter, and Eddie Richards.
Honorary pallbearers were John Payne, Bobby Mitchell, and Mike Jacobs.

Rev. Carmon Austin

Rev. Carmon Austin, 69, of Clarksville died Saturday, July 3, 1999.
A native of Tallulah, La., he was a son of the late Medith and Mary Bray Austin, graduate of Fullerton (California) High School, member and pastor of Hays Chapel Methodist Church for the past 12 years, served in the Korean War with the First Calvary, member of Pittsburg Masonic Lodge No. 362, owner-operator of Carmon's Barber Shop for several years, and was preceded in death by one daughter, Carma Lynn Bratton.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Cynthianna Sparks Austin; one daughter, Cathy Austin of Clarksville; one son and daughter-in-law, Clay and Amanda Austin of Clarksville; one son-in-law, Alan Bratton of Clarksville; and four grandchildren, Erin Ann Bratton, Korrin Austin, Shelbey Austin, and Cheyenne Austin, all of Clarksville.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 6, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with Rev. Waymon Hollis officiating. Burial was in Oakland cemetery.
Pallbearers were Curtis Chapman, Duane Childers, Joe Oberste, Dio Caldwell, Ken Miller, and H. L. Shockley.

Miss Mary F. Sykes

Miss Mary Frances Sykes, 94, of Heavener, Okla., died Friday, July 2, 1999, at Eastern Oklahoma Medical Center in Poteau, Okla.
She was a native of Clarksville, daughter of the late James Oscar and Emily Ann Handley Sykes, retired bookkeeper, and a Methodist.
She is survived by 14 nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Graveside services and burial were at 10 a.m. Monday, July 5, at Oakland cemetery in Clarksville with Rev. Sam Howell officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

George A. Weisenfels

George Anton Weisenfels, 76, of Morrison Bluff died Sunday, July 4, 1999, in Fort Smith.
He was a retired farmer and member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church at Morrison Bluff.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Marie Weisenfels; two stepdaughters, Debbie Kern of Fort Smith and Sandy Siebenmorgen of Morrison Bluff; one stepson, Steve Spencer of Russellville; three sisters, Ann Seiter of St. Louis, Mo., Margaret Siebenmorgen of Morrison Bluff, and Betty Vorster of Little Rock; one brother, Gilbert Weisenfels of Morrison Bluff; and eight grandchildren.
Rosary was at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 6, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 7, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
Burial will be at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic cemetery at Morrison Bluff under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.
Pallbearers will be Larry Weisenfels, Louis Weisenfels, Randy Siebenmorgen, Bobby Siebenmorgen, Jeffrey Vorster, and David Seiter.

Mrs. Mary B. Stephens

Mrs. Mary Brown Stephens, 76, of Fort Smith died Sunday, July 4, 1999, at Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith.
She was a native of Clarksville, graduate of Clarksville High School, and daughter of the late Arthur J. and Jewell Arnold Brown.
She is survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and Horace Rand of Alexandria, La.; and several cousins.
Graveside services and burial were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 6, at Oakland cemetery in Clarksville with Rev. E. Frank Brown officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Price Oliphant

Price Oliphant, 75, of Little Rock, formerly of Hartman, died Sunday, July 4, 1999, at St. Vincent Hospital in Little Rock.
He was a native of Johnson County, son of the late Francis Lloyd and Bonnie Ester Price Oliphant, member of Geyer Springs United Methodist Church in Little Rock, a service station attendant, and was preceded in death by two brothers, Namon and Fred Oliphant.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Jean Dickerson Oliphant; one sister, Betty Rust of Leawood, Kan.; and two brothers, Dean Oliphant of Hollister, Mo., and Tommy Oliphant of Kansas City, Kan.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 7, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with Rev. Sara Bainbridge officiating. Burial will be in Coal Hill cemetery.
Pallbearers will be John Burke, Duane Steele, Virgil Luebke, Bentley Yates, Darrell Weathers, and Steve Weathers.

Mrs. Shirley Ashley

Mrs. Shirley Ashley, 64, of Coal Hill died Thursday, June 24, 1999, at her home.
A native of Los Angeles, Calif., she was a daughter of the late Harry and Eliza Packer Rudd, widow of Orville Ashley, and a retired nursing home housekeeper.
Survivors include one daughter, Cindy Hutchins of South Carolina; two sons, Robert Price of Las Vegas, Nev., and James Price of El Monte, Calif.; one sister, Dorothy Rockwell of Oregon; one brother, Victor Reed of Oregon; nine grandchildren, including Eric Villalba of Coal Hill; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, June 28, at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark with Rev. Mark Thornbrugh officiating. Burial was at Highland cemetery.
Pallbearers were Tommy Hutchins, Leo Hutchins, Melinda Hutchins, Michael Villalba, Gabriel Villalba and James Linton.
