Herman J. Wewers

Herman Joseph Wewers, 81, of Subiaco died Tuesday, July 11, 2006.
He was a son of the late John W. and Rose Lensing Wewers, retired Cloyes Gear Plant machine operator, member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, Army veteran of the Korean War, and was preceded in death by one son, Donald Wewers; one daughter, Evelyn Wewers; and one sister, Stella Frederick.
Survivors are his wife, Stella Schluterman Wewers; three daughters, Patti Yarbrough of Scranton, Janet Smalley of Conway, S. C., and Anita Collier of Charleston; one son, Edward Wewers of Clarksville; two sisters, Tina Dixon of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Rosemary Reith of Fort Smith; 16 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Rosary was at 8 p.m. Thursday, July 13, at St. Benedict Catholic Church. Mass was at 10 a.m. Friday, July 14, at St. Benedict Catholic Church with burial in St. Benedict cemetery under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.
Active pallbearers were Mitch Wewers, Marcus Wewers, Eric George, Andrew Collier, Jeremy Williams and Brad Williams.
Honorary pallbearers were Alex Scroggins, Adam Scroggins, Aaron Collier and Tyler Geels.

J. L. Bailey

J. L. (Jake) Bailey, 80, of Clarksville died Friday, July 28, 2006, at his home.
He was a son of the late George D. and Myrtis Smith Bailey, former resident of Bastrop, La., retired Bastrop, La., fireman, member of the Masonic Lodge in Bastrop, La., and Belle Grove Chapter No. 410 at Ludwig, World War II veteran, served in four major battles and received three bronze stars, oil field employee, store owner and operator, and member and deacon of the Ozone Full Gospel Church.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Bailey; two daughters, Polly Poynter of Ozone and Sarah Nelson and husband, Tony, of Bastrop, La.; three sons, Jess Lee Bailey Jr. and wife, Kay, of Ozone, Robert (Bob) Bailey and wife, Nancy, of Clarksville, and Max Bailey and wife, Emily, of Tucson, Ariz.; 14 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Monday, July 31, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Boen and Rev. Don Carey officiating. Burial, with masonic graveside services, was at Russell cemetery in Ozone.
Mason members served as pallbearers.

L. Ruth Cowell

Laura Ruth Daniel Cowell, 79, of Russellville, Mo., formerly of Lamar, died Wednesday, July 26, 2006, at the home of her daughter, Anita Foster of Russellville, Mo.
A native of Lamar, she was a daughter of the late Seldon and Ada Reynolds Daniel, member of Holman Freewill Baptist Church, former resident of Kansas City, Mo., and Holden, Mo., retired clerk for Safeway Grocery Stores after 20-plus years of service, cattle farm owner, and was preceded in death by one sister, Helen Colvin.
Other than her daughter, she is survived by four sons, Stanley Cowell of Lamar, Robert Cowell of Russellville, James Mathie Cowell of Clarksville and Vonnon Cowell of Roscoe, Mo.; two stepsons, Stephen King of O'Fallen, Mo., and Robert (Mike) King of Kansas City, Kan.; four sisters, Ellen Johnson of Lamar, Louise Miller of Clarksville, Anna Bruce of Broomfield, Mo., and Mary Causey of Sikeston, Mo.; one brother, James Daniel of Lamar; 19 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 29, at the Holman Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. A second service was held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 31, at Williams Funeral Chapel in Holden, Mo., followed by burial at 3 p.m. at Benton Green cemetery north of Roscoe, Mo.
Pallbearers were Stanley Cowell, Robert Cowell, James M. Cowell, Vonnon Cowell, Jake Foster and Jesse Foster.

Lillie E. Hays

Lillie E. Hays, 93, of Clarksville died Wednesday, July 26, 2006, at Clarksville Convalescent Home.
She was a native of the Montana Community, daughter of the late Charles Franklin and Qualie Lucy Hooten Guthrie, widow of Ephus James Hays, member of the Crossroads Assembly of God Church and a bowling league member for many years.
Survivors include one daughter, Jurine Roberts of Clarksville; three sons, Ralph C. Adams of Hartman, James G. Hays of Russellville, and Mel Hays of Fayetteville; ten grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial were at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 29, at the Shady Grove cemetery with Rev. Leon Ketcherside officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Winnie P. Highfill

Winnie Pipkins Highfill, 90, of Hartman died Saturday, July 29, 2006, in Russellville.
A native of Ozark, she was the daughter of the late James and Josie Ella Green Highfill, widow of Thurman Highfill, and member of the Center Point Missionary Baptist Church and Coal Hill Extension Homemakers Club.
She is survived by one daughter, Gayle Bragg and husband, Charles, of Russellville; one son, Ronnie Highfill and wife, Jolene, of Rogers; three sisters, Faye Roble and Lexie Wyers, both of Clarksville, and Velta Sallis of Greenbrier; three grandchildren, Tiffany Highfill Evans and husband, Tom, of Garland, Texas; Brittany Highfill Peterson and husband, John, of Dallas, Texas; and Chanda Bragg Jordan and husband, Wesley, of Russellville; three great-grandchildren, Braden and Chase Jordan of Russellville and Riley Peterson of Dallas, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1, at Center Point Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Patrick Trusty officiating.
Burial was in Kendall cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers were Steven Sosebee, Andy Highfill, Don Highfill, Justin Robertson, Darrell Burns, and Keith Pipkins.
Honorary pallbearers were James Burns, Eunice Highfill, Rosalee Harden, Helen Vaughn, and Billy Wyers.

Angela Garcia

Angela Garcia, infant daughter of J. Isabel Garcia and Blanca Garcia of Clarksville, died Tuesday, July 18, 2006, at UAMS Medical Center in Little Rock.
Other survivors are two brothers, Omar and Brian Garcia of Clarksville.
Graveside services and burial were at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 20, at Holy Redeemer Catholic cemetery with Rev. Hector Mendez officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Elvie B. Dossett

Elvie Belle (Billie) Dossett, 93, of Lamar died Monday, July 24, 2006, at Countryside Manor Nursing Home.
She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Knoxville, widow of Rev. Joseph F. Dossett, daughter of the late Sydney Frank and Lizzie Sanders Clay, and was preceded in death by one grandchild.
Survivors include four daughters, Mary Childers and Ann Sparks, both of Lamar, Kay Cook of The Woodlands, Texas, and Loreta Goodson of Lufkin, Texas; one son, Paul Dossett of Lamar; ten grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 26, at Bethel Baptist Church of Knoxville with Rev. Lee Cording officiating.
Burial will be in Knoxville cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Freda King Bock

Freda Lee King Bock, 81, of Clarksville died Friday, July 21, 2006, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
A native of Clarksville, she was a daughter of the late Guy and Malinda Askins King, widow of Ernest A. Bock, 1942 graduate of Clarksville High School, 1969 graduate of the University of the Ozarks, taught at Sallis Elementary School in Clarksville for several years having retired after 16 years teaching, and a member of the Johnson County Retired Teachers Association.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda Spurlock of Clarksville and Lee Ann Amerson and husband, Russell, of Fairbanks, Alaska; one son, Larry K. Bock and wife, Louise, of Sumter, S. C.; and six grandchildren, Jennifer Armstrong and husband, Kent, of Fairbanks, Alaska, Dain Spurlock and wife, Amy, of Conway, Tom Bock of Franklin, N. C., Alan Bock and Ken Bock, both of Sumter, S. C., and Lora Bock of Atlanta, Ga.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 25, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with Burley King and Rev. Jerome Kodell, O.S.B., officiating. Burial was in Holy Redeemer Catholic cemetery.
Pallbearers were Russell Amerson, Dain Spurlock, Tom, Alan, and Ken Bock, and Ron Leonard.
Memorials may be made to Johnson County Public Library, No. 2 Taylor Circle, Clarksville, AR 72830.
