Audrey E. Skaggs

Audrey Estelene Skaggs, 85, of Lamar died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008, at Countryside Manor Nursing Home at Lamar.

She was a native of Osage, daughter of the late Edward and Lela Alice Casey Morrison, widow of Goald Eugene Skaggs, and was preceded in death by two sons, Argus Faye Skaggs and Roy Lee Skaggs; one daughter, Edra Jean King; five sisters; and one brother.

She is survived by five daughters, Geneva Sue Morland and Robin Gail Clark, both of Lamar, Linda Kaye Clayborn of Clarksville, Deborah Darlene Bjorgum of Hagarville and Donna Mae Roddy of Lavaca; three sons, James Burl Skaggs of Knoxville, Kenneth Dean Skaggs of Wynne, and Chester Blaine Skaggs of Lamar; 24 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.

Funeral was at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Hagarville cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Nathan Bjorgum, Josh Bjorgum, Chris Clark, Keith Skaggs, Darren Skaggs, and Michael Skaggs.

Honorary pallbearer was Cory Mooney.

Dorothy Balkcom

Dorothy Marie Balkcom, 51, of Lamar died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2008, at her home.

She was a native of Springfield, Mo., and daughter of the late Luther T. and Juanita L. Brown Maness.

Survivors include her husband, Bobby F. Balkcom; three sisters, Margie L. Brewer of Mountain View, and Thelma J. Maness and Ine Seekins, both of Lamar; and four brothers, Charles Maness, David Maness and Raymond Warren, all of Arlington, Iowa, and Floyd Warren Jr. of Clarksville.

Graveside services and burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 12, at the Possum Walk cemetery with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers will be J. L. Lucius, Joe Balkcom, James Evans, Chris Gillihan, Gary Hill and Jason Maness.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jesse McCarver, Vernon Brewer, Scotty Kemp, Charles Maness, David Maness, and Raymond Warren.

Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Janet A. Burton

Janet Aylene Burton, 61, of Hartman died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2008, at her home.

She was a daughter of the late S. H. (Pete) and Inez Aylene Morrow Epperson, waitress, member of the Assembly of God Church, and was preceded in death by one sister, Pam Musgove.

Survivors include her husband, Maxie Don Burton; one daughter, Sara Jane Burton Chrisman of Nashville, Tenn.; one son, Samuel D. Burton of Hartman; three sisters, Judy Handley of Clarksville, Marsha Ragsdale of London, and Teresa Carlisle of Nashville, Tenn.; four brothers, Floyd Epperson of North Carolina, Jamie Epperson of Clarksville, Joe Epperson of Fort Smith, and Jody Epperson of Hartman; and one grandchild, Mayce Chrisman.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Burial will be in Hartman cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Don Ragsdale, David Handley, Donald Ragsdale, Michael Ragsdale, Jeremy Handley, and Jimmy Bateman.

Memorials may be made to Hospice.

Jessica Lee Phillips

Jessica Lee Phillips was born in Midland, Texas, on June 4, 1982. She was killed when another vehicle struck the one she was driving in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Thursday, December 4, 2008. She was 26 years of age. Jessica is survived by her parents, Kenneth Dale and Rebecca Phillips of Knoxville, Arkansas. Also surviving maternally are her grandmother, Donna Lee Williams of Knoxville, Arkansas, two uncles, Terry A. Williams of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Timothy B. Williams and family of London, Arkansas. Her maternal grandfather, Truett A. Williams, preceded her in death. Paternally her grandfather and grandmother, Jesse E. Phillips and Glennis Chloe Phillips, both preceded her in death in Brumley, Missouri, one aunt, Glenda Shackleford, uncles, Jessie Wayne Phillips, Lonnie Phillips, Louie Phillips, and Mark Phillips, all of Brumley, Missouri are surviving.

Jessica attended school in Russellville, Arkansas, and became home schooled in her final high school years. She won a full Presidential Scholarship to the University of Central Arkansas in Conway and graduated summa cum laude from the Honors College of UCA. She then received a scholarship from the University of East Anglia in Norwich, England, to complete her master's degree in creative writing. She also worked on a PhD there for approximately two years.

Jessica moved to Tulsa in late summer of 2008 and subsequently began working there. Her long-term dream had been to complete her education and teach creative writing about which she was passionate.

Local visitation for Jessica was from 6-7:30 p.m., at Hardwicke Funeral Home in Clarksville, Arkansas, on Monday, Dec. 8. 2008.

A. W. Goff, preacher of the East Side Church of Christ, Russellville, read her obituary and lead those attending in prayer. No formal service will be given.

She was moved to her father's home in Brumley, Missouri, to be buried with her paternal family per her previous request. Jessica had a graveside service for friends and relatives there on Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008, at 2:00 p.m.

Honorary pallbearers for her visitation at Hardwicke Funeral Home in Clarksville, were Terry Williams, Tim Williams, Steve Williams, Wade Llwelyn of Seattle, Washington, and Benjamin Black.

Pallbearers at the graveside service in Brumley, Missouri were Jesse Phillips, Lonnie Phillips, Louie Phillips, Mark Phillips, Bob Phillips and Charlie Ash. The obituary at the graveside and prayers were offered by Farris Ash, Bernice Ash, and Nathan Phillips of the Rodden Road Church of Christ in Brumley.

Marie Spencer

Marie Spencer, 92, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2008, in a Booneville hospital.

She was a native of eastern Arkansas, daughter of the late Dumpus and Millie Ritter McCarver, long-time resident of the Piney Community, widow of Nick Spencer, and was preceded in death by one brother, Dumpus McCarver.

Survivors include three brothers, Paul of McAllen, Texas, Bruce of the Flat Rock Community, and Ross of Oregon; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great-nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at the Flat Rock Community Building located on Highway 359.

Patricia Blackburn

Delores Patricia Blackburn died on December 4, 2008, at her home in Clarksville, Arkansas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, D. A. Blackburn Jr.

Patsy was the name she was best known by in the Clarksville area. She was born on June 6, 1930, in Russellville, Arkansas and moved to Clarksville where she attended the Clarksville Public Schools and the University of the Ozarks. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, PEO, and her bridge club. Her silent grace and calmness was perceived by all who knew her.

She is survived by one son, Dr. Greg Blackburn of New York City and his wife, Cathy, and their daughter and one great-grandchild, and her beloved dog, Cuddles.

A viewing was at Hardwicke Funeral Home on Friday evening.

There will be a private memorial service at the graveside.

Memorials should be given to the Alzheimer's Association, 10411 West Markham, Suite 130, Little Rock, AR 72205 and the University of the Ozarks, 415 North College Avenue, Clarksville, AR 72830.

Raymond Lee Evans

Raymond Lee Evans, 84, of Lamar died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, at North Little Rock.

He was a native of Greenland, retired restaurant owner and truck driver, son of the late Lonnie and Lizzie Hattabaugh Evans, and was preceded in death by his wife, Berniece M. Graham Evans; one brother, Douglas Evans; and infant daughter.

He is survived by two daughters, Linda Pearl Tilley and husband, Harry, of Lamar and Brenda Sue Ashlock and husband, Joey, of Pottsville; four sons, Norman Lee Evans and wife, Kathy, of Bloomington, Ind., Edward Allen Evans and wife, Bonnie, of London, David Paul Evans and wife, Tammy, and Stephan Ray Evans, all of Russellville; one sister, Garnet Chapman of Van Buren; two brothers, Edward James Evans of Clarksville and Jimmy Don Evans of Van Buren; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, at Flat Rock Worship Center with Rev. Ronnie Burge officiating.

Burial will be in Knoxville cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers will be Harry Tilley, James Ruble, Joey Ashlock, Ely Young, Devan Young and Jimmy Higby.

Honorary pallbearers will be his caregivers at Fort Root.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601-7633.
